She said, "I would like to go to university and complete a degree and so that will mean a break from acting. I've always tried to balance my education with my acting career, but I just don't think it will be possible to juggle it with a degree course. I have a need now to study."

When asked if she would attend a university in the UK or US, Emma said, "There are excellent universities over there and I am applying at the moment. If I stay in [England], I will read English Literature, and if I go to America, I will do a Liberal Arts program."

Scholastic has announced that the paperback edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released on July 7, 2009, ten days before the release of the postponed Half-Blood Prince movie. The paperback will have an initial print run of 2 million copies, which would be a staggering figure for any book being released for the first time, much less two years after its original release.

"We have another big year planned for Harry," said Ellie Berger, Scholastic's President of Trade. "As we look toward the tenth anniversary of the U.S. publication of J.K. Rowling's first Harry Potter novel, we are thrilled to continue to bring Harry Potter to fans of all ages in new and exciting ways."

This week, Scholastic will also be publishing a special anniversary edition of Sorcerer's Stone to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the book's release.

Appeal in the works in Lexicon case

In a somewhat unexpected twist in the battle between JK Rowling and RDR Books over a printed version of the Harry Potter Lexicon, the losers in the case -- publisher Roger Rapoport and Lexicon creator Steve Vander Ark -- are laying the groundwork to appeal the decision handed down from a U.S. district judge last week, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Vander Ark said that he maintains interest in ultimately publishing the book after editing it to avoid charges of excessive copying. He said that "I've always been very much willing to work with [JK Rowling] and try to see what can be done."

Rapoport was more circumspect in his view of the decision, saying, "Obviously, it was not the outcome we had hoped for or wanted."

Dan 'a lot more confident' about NY debut

In a lengthy interview with the Associated Press about his starring role as Alan Strang in the upcoming Broadway production of Equus, Daniel Radcliffe said that his success in the role in London has boosted his confidence leading up to his Broadway debut. He said:
"That's the thing about doing it the first time around. Everyone was wondering if I could... pull it off. I didn't know whether I could do it (but) I really wanted to... And I am going to get better this time around as well...

"I am a lot more confident about (my voice) being heard now. In London, that was more of a worry. Now there's room for me to do... to play around with the words and put more color into them, sort of a musicality, to try and give every word its individual identity, I suppose.

"Maybe I am more relaxed this time. I think it's just the fact that I have grown up in the year and a half since we (last) did it. The other night I got a line wrong, which, for me, was like a dagger because I don't like doing it."
The full interview is available online. Equus, which is now in previews, opens officially September 25 at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York.

Breaking: Rowling wins in Lexicon case

Ruling that a proposed book form of the Harry Potter Lexicon would cause JK Rowling irreparable harm as a writer, U.S. District Judge Robert P. Patterson today ruled in favor of Rowling in her long-standing lawsuit against RDR Books and the Lexicon. Patterson permanently blocked publication of the book and awarded $6,750 in statutory damages to Rowling and Warner Bros.

Jo released a statement, saying, "I took no pleasure at all in bringing legal action and am delighted that this issue has been resolved favorably. I went to court to uphold the right of authors everywhere to protect their own original work. The court has upheld that right.

"The proposed book took an enormous amount of my work and added virtually no original commentary of its own... Many books have been published which offer original insights into the world of Harry Potter. The Lexicon just is not one of them."

While Patterson said that, in general, reference guides to books should be encouraged, in this instance, the "Lexicon appropriates too much of Rowling's creative work for its purposes as a reference guide."

After he wraps shooting on the movie Cherrybomb, to be released in 2009, actor Rupert Grint will embark upon a new film project, this time playing the role of a young apprentice learning to become a hitman. The new movie, entitled Wild Target, will be filmed later this month and is currently scheduled for release in March 2009. Co-stars include Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix) and Bill Nighy.

'Details' publishes new interview with Dan

As part of the publicity run for his Broadway debut in Equus, Daniel Radcliffe offered an interview to Details magazine, which is featured as the cover story in their latest issue (warning: some adult themes).

In the interview, he spoke some about his work on the Harry Potter films, saying, "They've been a laugh. They've been great. For the most part, I've been happy every single day. And all the times I've been unhappy, it's never been anything to do with Potter. It's just been the normal, boring teenage [censored]. Insecurities, acne—all the normal stuff."

He also talked about the release of Deathly Hallows last summer: "It was very emotional, actually. In the front of the book, I wrote something Anton Chekhov wrote to the woman he ended up spending the rest of his life with: 'Hello, the last page of my life.' Which I thought was very appropriate."

The full interview can be read at the Details website.

"Fine, I'll try and teach him again!" Snape snarled at Professor Dumbledore.

"Severus, please, for me, don't take all those old wounds that you gained from James out on Harry. Harry is not James - do not blame him for what happened." Dumbledore spoke quietly, but his blue eyes held a warning. Snape sighed in frustration...
