"If we turn our heads and look away and hope that it will all disappear then they will - all of them, an entire generation of people. And we will have only history left to judge us."

Crew members working on the pair of Deathly Hallows films are already scouting out possible film locations in Scotland, according to Lochaber News. Although the first part of the DH movie won't be released until November 2010, executives and special effects personnel need to start work now. According to the article:
Teams of cinematography experts and production designers visited Glenfinnan, Glen Etive, Glencoe and Glen Nevis, all Lochaber landmarks which have already become established in the series.
They were looking at the autumn and winter changes of the terrain, trees and vegetation in these areas, and have since been in Yorkshire examining tracts of moorland to supplement the Highland locations.
More details are included in the full article, which can be read here.

In a piece published in The Guardian today, JK Rowling describes the significance to her of Chapter 34 of Deathly Hallows, "The Forest Again." She writes:
The destinies of wizards and princes might seem more certain than those carved out for the rest of us, yet we all have to choose the manner in which we meet life: whether to live up (or down) to the expectations placed upon us; whether to act selfishly, or for the common good; whether to steer the course of our lives ourselves, or to allow ourselves to be buffeted around by chance and circumstance....This extract from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is my favourite part of the seventh book; it might even be my favourite part of the entire series.

Publishers Weekly is reporting that Scholastic will print 3.5 million copies of JK Rowling's Beedle the Bard, to be released December 4, in its initial run. Although this figure is (of course) less than Deathly Hallows' mammoth 12 million initial print run, it is still highly impressive. For some perspective, recall that Beedle the Bard's figures actually rival the 3.8 million copies first printed of Goblet of Fire for its release in 2000.
Net proceeds from Beedle the Bard sales will go to Children's High Level Group, the charity that JK Rowling co-founded. Thanks to HPANA for the tip!

Daniel Radcliffe appeared on NBC's Today show this morning to discuss his role as Alan Strang in the current Broadway run of Equus, which he called a "happy medium" between Harry Potter and other possibilities for branching out from the franchise. While acknowledging that Alan is "a pretty screwed up character," he also emphasized that Harry is troubled as well, noting that "he has dissolved a man's face on one occasion."

In a detailed interview with fansite Feltbeats, actor Tom Felton discussed his role as Draco Malfoy in the Half-Blood Prince film and his expectations for the character in the Deathly Hallows movies.
When asked about the evolution of Draco in this movie, Tom said, "It was great; it was probably the most exciting thing about playing the character this year. Obviously, he was a little bit two-dimensional in previous films. He was just a rather spiteful git for the sake of it; whereas in this film you get to see why he's a bit of a git because of his father and his upbringing and so forth. You get to see both sides, really, of his extremes – the side where obviously his father is away and he's trying to take on the male role and so forth.
"But equally, the pressure will get too much for him, and you'll see a much weaker side of him. So yeah, it was great playing a bit more versatile character, rather than just two-dimensional."

"Fine, I'll try and teach him again!" Snape snarled at Professor Dumbledore.
"Severus, please, for me, don't take all those old wounds that you gained from James out on Harry. Harry is not James - do not blame him for what happened." Dumbledore spoke quietly, but his blue eyes held a warning. Snape sighed in frustration...
