Book 1:
Mistakes

On page 171, the Charms class is learning the spell "Wingardium Leviosa." Professor Flitwick says, "Never forget Wizard Baruffio, who said 's' intstead of 'f' and found himself on the floor with a buffalo on his chest." There is no 'f' in "Wingardium Leviosa". It was supposed to be 'f' instead of 's'.

In SS/PS Hagrid tells Harry that James and Lily Potter were Head Boy and Head Girl in their day (The Keeper of the Keys). However, in the OotP at the party for Ron and Hermione, it was mentioned that James did not even get his prefect badge. - Submitted by skyler

On page 123 of the American hardback version of book 1, Harry has a conversation with a ghost, who we later find out is Nearly Headless Nick. He and Harry have this conversation:
"That does look good," said the ghost in the ruff sadly [Nick], watching Harry cut up his steak.
"Can't you--?" [Said Harry]
"I haven't eaten for nearly FOUR hundred years," said the ghost. [Emphasis added]
However, in the second book, Nearly Headless Nick is celebrating his FIVE-hundredth-death day. -Submitted by Prettykitty368

On page 122 of the first book (American Version) at the beginning of the third paragraph it says, "and now there were only three people left to be sorted." Following this sentence, the book tells of Dean Thomas, Lisa Turpin, Ron Weasley, and Zabini Blaise all being sorted, which are four people, not three. -Submitted by Sam

In "Sorcerer's Stone," Parvati and Padma Patil were sorted, then a girl named Sally-Ann Perks, then Harry. But when they are called into their Practical exam O.W.L. in alphabetical order, Parvati and Padma are called in followed immediately by Harry. What happened to Sally-Ann Perks between "Sorcerer's Stone" and "Order of the Phoenix?" - Submitted by Allie.

In chapter four of SS, when Hagrid comes to give Harry his Hogwarts letter and Aunt Petunia talks about her sister being a freak, she says that Lily "came home every vacation with her pockets full of frog spawn, turning teacups into rats." Unless the rules have changed since Lily was at Hogwarts, students are not allowed to do magic at home. -Submitted by Crookshanks800

On page 70 of the American SS paperback book says that Professor Quirrell 'grasped Harry's hand'. But later in the book, page 298, Dumbledore said that Quirrell, full of hatred, greed, and ambition, sharing his soul with Voldemort, couldn't touch him because of his mother's love and sacrifice for him - it was agony to touch a person marked by something so pure. - Submitted by Jen
