A Christmas to Remember | | Author: | Ruth Emma Renoldy | | Genre: | General | | Rating: | G | | Score: | 4.62791 | | Story: | Ron has loved Hermione since the day Hermione walked out of the Hospital Wing healthy and no longer petrified in their second year, but for Hermione she recognized her feelings a bit earlier. What will happen when its Christmas time of their sixth year and fate seems to bring the two together?
“Bye Luna, and have a merry Christmas,” Ginny told Luna as she prepared to leave Hogwarts for Christmas.
“Yeah, merry Christmas and have a good vacation,” Hermione added.
“Thanks, and I hope you two have a good vacation here at school. I hope you two won’t be too bored,” Luna replied, in her usual dreamy tone.
“Oh don’t worry about us. We’ll be fine here. Besides, Ron and Harry are staying for Christmas also, so we’ll have company,” Ginny reassured her.
“Thank you. Well, goodbye,” Luna said uneasily not knowing what else needed to be said and turned on her heel.
“Bye. Take it easy,” Hermione told her with a smile, as the two girls waved goodbye.
Luna went through the front entrance as Ginny and Hermione headed back towards the Great Hall to meet up with Harry and Ron once more. As the girls entered the Great Hall they took notice of the once again fabulously decorated Great Hall with holly and mistletoe hanging everywhere. The thirty foot tall trees, Hagrid had drug in the night before, covered in large decorative ornaments and the many yards of different colored tinsel surrounding the trees. The Great Hall’s ceiling that looked as though the gentlest snow fall in history was taking place indoors, as fluffy white clouds covered the ceiling and were dropping the most beautiful snowflakes ever.
“Hey, where are they?” Ginny asked as she turned towards Hermione.
“I don’t know. They probably headed back to the common room forgetting that we were to meet up with them again. Let’s just go check there,” Hermione said still looking around the Great Hall for any sign of their friends.
“Alright,” Ginny said as they turned back to go to the common room. “Boys, I mean I just don’t get how they are so forgetful. They forget everything from your birthday, to a Valentines Day card, to when and where they are going to meet up with you. It makes no sense.”
“Hmm,” Hermione said with a smirk on her face. “Sounds like you’re talking about some boys that, I don’t know, are about five foot six inches, have red and black hair, and one of them has blue eyes while the other has a scar on his head. You know, I’m just saying they sound familiar.”
Ginny laughed at this comment. “Who knows, maybe I am,” she said turning to Hermione and speaking in a mock sort of tone.
“I thought so. So, is there trouble with Harry?” Hermione asked, stopping.
“Why would you say that?”
“I don’t know, but just with you saying that guys tend to forget things, I thought you were making the point that Harry had forgotten something that was important to you.”
“Oh no, I was just,” Ginny started then paused, “I don’t really know. I just felt like saying that I guess.”
“Alright then; if you say so.”
“I do.” Ginny said as a reassuring smile came across her face. “Don’t worry; everything is fine.”
“Okay,” Hermione said as the two started up again towards the common room.
When Ginny and Hermione rounded the corner ahead all of the sudden someone popped out from behind the corner, yelled, and landed next to Ginny.
“Ah!” Ginny jumped as she screamed, as did Hermione. All of the sudden Ginny was bursting out into fits of giggles. Harry jumped out from around the corner and was holding mistletoe. Ron walked out from around the corner just smiling at the situation.
“Oh look, mistletoe,” Harry commented as he stood next to Ginny holding it over her and his head.
At that point Ron had turned towards Hermione just so he had something to do other than watch his baby sister snog his best friend. As Hermione blushed, because she felt foolish for just standing there in silence and also thinking that something was wrong between Harry and Ginny she simply said, “Good Morning.”
“Yeah, good morning,” Ron said in a tired sort of tone.
“I thought you and Harry were going to meet us in the Great Hall,” Hermione asked Ron, as out of the corner of her eye saw Ginny still lip locking Harry as she thought to herself ‘How does Ginny take a breath?’ “Yeah, well Harry wanted to surprise Ginny and I didn’t have anything to do,” Ron said towards the floor. For some reason Ron was avoiding eye contact with Hermione which gave a sign to Hermione that he felt uncomfortable.
In the back of Hermione’s head she wondered why he was acting so strange around her. She began to think back over the past few days and tried to come up with a logical explanation on why Ron was acting in such a way towards her. As she stood there feeling a bit awkward in the silence she racked her brain for the reason or a possible incident that led to Ron not making eye contact.
Hermione was replaying the past few days in her mind thinking about if she’d done something, and if that something had offended, upset, or angered Ron in any way. ‘Well yesterday in Transfiguration I did laugh at his attempt to turn a pocket watch into a talking whistle, but I wonder if that is enough to push Ron over the edge or to get him seriously upset with me.’ As they stood in the hall and in silence, except for the giggles erupting from Ginny, Hermione tried resorting to small talk although she didn’t know why.
“So have you have you finished your over holiday homework yet?” Hermione felt very stupid for asking this question, for she already knew the answer.
Ron looked up at her as Hermione thought, ‘Well at least he’s looking at me now.’
“Do you have to ask that question?” Ron asked looking flabbergasted at such a question with such an obvious answer.
“Oh! Of course! How foolish of me. You already finished last night! I’m so stupid!” Hermione said this only with the intention of wanting to make him smile and no longer have such a stupid look on his face. But the back of Hermione’s mind told the truth that Hermione only wanted Ron to laugh so hopefully he would talk to her without his head directed towards the ground.
With much relief Hermione’s plan succeeded as Ron lifted his head and began to laugh. Happiness swelled inside of Hermione but was trying her hardest not to let it show. She didn’t want Ron to think she was trying too hard to begin a conversation, as Hermione still was wondering why.
With much difficulty Ron glanced at his best friend and baby sister snogging and walked over to Hermione who tensed and felt nervous and tried very hard to keep it on the inside. Ron had to bend a bit to get down to Hermione’s ear, (for Ron had grown quite a bit taller than Hermione at this point) as he whispered, “Do you think that you could get them to stop and go to the common room and do that? Actually do you think you could get them to stop all together?” Ron’s devilish side came out as he waited for her response.
Hermione who was still reeling from having his warm breath on her ear was a bit dazed but was able to nod back at Ron and complete her given task. Hermione thought, ‘Why can’t Ron just do this himself? Oh yeah, he’s a guy.’ Hermione had a simple plan. She approached Ginny and tapped her on the shoulder in her attempt to pull Ginny back to the real world.
“What?” Ginny said as she turned her attention towards Hermione and away from Harry for a few moments.
“Could you do that in the common room?” Hermione asked in a tone so low that only Ginny could hear it.
“Why?”
“Can you please? I’ll tell you when we get there, but can we just go?”
“Sure,” Ginny replied in a very curious voice, “but you better tell me when we get there.”
“I will, I will, just as long as you come along,” Hermione said, glad that it didn’t take more force to get Ginny to go. Hermione then smiled at the fact Ginny was only going because Hermione was a girl, and was smiling even broader at the scenario taking place in her head of Ron asking Ginny to go.
“Hey Harry, do you want to go to the common room?” Ginny asked him.
“No not really,” Harry replied feeling offended by Ginny pulling away.
“Will you please go to the common room with me; pretty please with a kiss on top?” Ginny now had resorted to baby talk to try and convince him but if that didn’t work she would then have to either pinch him until he had an Easter egg like bruise or tell him she wouldn’t kiss him for week.
“Ok, I guess I’ll go,” Harry said reluctantly. “But I want that kiss!”
“Ok, you will get it, but let’s go,” Ginny said feeling unhappy that she had to stop kissing Harry for the moment, but happy that she got to help out Hermione.
As the four of them walked together up to the common room Ron broke the silence by asking Hermione why she was ginning but only for her to respond with it’s a girl thing. Ron felt as though he didn’t understand, nor did he want to understand.
As Harry was doing something other than snog Ginny he noticed that most everyone who was going to leave for the holidays had and that it was snowing.
“Hey, does anyone want to go outside?” Harry tried hoping that the others would say yes.
“Sure, I don’t have a problem with it,” Ron said happy to be able to pelt Hermione with as many snowballs humanly possible.
“I don’t care, I don’t have a problem with it,” Hermione said agreeing.
“What about that kiss?” Ginny asked defiantly.
“You’ll just have to get it later,” Harry had replied. This was his attempt to get back at Ginny although he had no doubt in his mind that they would resume where they left off when they got outside. Before Harry knew it the four had reached the portrait of the fat lady asking for the password.
“Christmas cakes,” Ron said. This was a password he didn’t want to forget, as the fat lady swung forward to accept them into the common room.
“Ok, I guess we’ll go get ready and meet up here in ten minutes,” Hermione said setting the plan.
“Sure,” Harry and Ron said in unison as they headed up their staircase and Ginny and Hermione headed up theirs to get ready for going outside.
“So why did you want Harry and I to go to the common room?” Ginny asked quite curious.
“I’ll tell you in my room. Why don’t you get your things and get changed in my dorm?”
“Alright, but you will tell me.”
“I know I will,” Hermione said as Ginny headed to her dorm to get her things.
