1984 - Chapter 03: Double Dumble | | Author: | Daniels_Girl | | Genre: | General | | Rating: | G | | Score: | 4.54286 | | Story: | "Come on, let's find a compartment." Hermione lead everyone down the train hallway to a compartment near the end. Harry, Ron and Ginny piled in after Hermione. They deposited their luggage in the cubbies and sat down. Hermione seemed as though she'd fall asleep. "What time did you get up this morning?" Harry asked her while she was in mid yawn. "4:30, I had to do some last minute homework." It seemed as though listening to Hermione talk about little sleep made Ron dozy. By lunch, Ron and Hermione were both zonked, which left Harry sitting with his back against the window and his feet up on the seat, and Ginny reading a magazine. "Do you ever wonder what it would be like if you were a muggle?" Harry asked, making small talk. "Well that means never having come to Hogwarts?" Harry nodded then she continued, "Well it would be horrible 'cause I'd never have met you." She looked bashfully up from her magazine. Harry couldn't believe his ears and yet tried to act cool about it. "Why does it matter if you've met me or not?" he chuckled. Ginny dropped her magazine and crept over to Harry. She was right before him and stared into his emerald eyes. He now took initiative and leaned in to kiss her. It seemed so right. There was no other explanation. They broke apart and looked into each others eyes. "Oh, sorry, was I interrupting something?" Harry's head moved so fast to the source of the noise that it cracked. There outlined in the door was Cho Chang. "Well I just thought I'd say hi, Harry, but I can see you're busy." And with that, she turned on her heel and exited. "Cho, Cho! I'll be right back." Harry got up and chased after his former love. He finally caught up with her at her compartment. "Cho, you said we were over, how was I supposed to know?" He grabbed her arm. She turned around and said, "Can I help you?" as if she didn't hear a word he’d said. "Yeah, please, I just want to stay friends." "Friends? Who are you?" She looked down to where Harry embraced her arm. Harry let go and said, "What? What do you mean who am I? What are you playing at?" "Well it was really nice to meet you but I have to go. I'll see you around." And she entered the door on the right, with a look of slight disgust. Harry didn't know what just happened. He gradually headed back to Ginny. He was still trying to figure out what that was all about when he opened the doors to his compartment. Ginny jumped on him in a kiss again. She broke off and looked a little frightened. She then looked down at Hermione who was sitting straight up. "Well?" she asked. "Nothing," Ginny replied. "At all?" "No." "Could someone tell me what's going on?" Harry asked, still framed in the doorway. "Ginny said that when she kisses you, she doesn't feel anything." Harry raised his eyebrows. "Good to know I suck." "No Harry, like you don't have a soul," Ginny said, still looking scared. Harry was looking confused. He was trying to put it all together, his scar vanishing, Cho not knowing who he is and Ginny saying he had no soul. He sat down and slowly drifted off into a deep sleep. "Harry, Harry wake up!" Hermione was frantically shaking him. "Harry please wake up!" He shot his eyes open, "What?" Hermione's eyes were slightly teary, and now that she was looking straight into his eyes, she looked immensely relieved. "Harry hurry, we're at Hogwarts, the train is about to leave." He got up to get his stuff but Hermione grabbed his arm and yanked him out the door, "We've got it, let’s go!" They darted off the train and were outside just as it pulled away from the station. They ran to the only carriage left standing, which contained Ron and Ginny. As they neared the carriage, the Thestrals stamped their feet impatiently. As Harry moved swiftly past them, he muttered a “Thanks,” and then hopped in and they were off. "What happened in there?" Harry questioned on their way to the castle. "Well for starters you were about to head back to London on that train, and secondly, you wouldn't wake up for anything! It looked like you were dead; we tried waking you up for fifteen minutes. You weren't breathing, Harry." "If I wasn't breathing then how am I here?" "I don't know, Harry, but it was really scary," Ron and Ginny nodded to that statement. They finally reached the castle, the rain was pouring hard by now and Ron, Hermione and Ginny raced inside. Harry held back a moment to collect his stuff. By the time he reached the Entrance hall, the other three were already gone. Harry shook all the water that was dripping, off of him then clumsily put his belongings down and started heading for the Great Hall. As he glided there, he saw Professor Dumbledore wandering the corridors. There was something different though. His hair had more of a hazel colour to it and he wasn't wearing his usual half moon spectacles. His robes weren't the same and he looked quite a bit shorter. But nonetheless, Harry waved generously and received one in return. The only problem was the look of concern on Dumbledore's face. Harry entered the great hall only minutes through the sorting ceremony. He wedged himself in between Ginny and Hermione. One thing took him by surprise; Ginny had gently grasped his hand in hers. He widened his eyes a wee bit, but closed them again to the sight of Cho staring at him. "Way to be late, mate," Ron said from across the table. "Hey, I wasn't the only one, Dumbledore was late too." "Dumbledore has been here the whole time Harry," said Hermione, with confusion in her voice. "No, I just saw him wandering the corridors outside. I waved at him and-" "Harry, he's right there." Ginny pointed with her unoccupied hand. Harry followed her gaze and noticed Dumbledore sitting in his usual chair. His hair was silver and he was wearing his half moon spectacles. He looked like the Dumbledore that Harry always remembered. "But…I-….He-" Harry couldn't put two and two together. Everything was going so wrong. The only thing that made sense to him was the fact that Ginny wasn't letting go of his hand. Harry decided that he was just over exhausted and his mind was playing tricks on him. So, he sat and enjoyed his meal. Harry and Ginny left the Great Hall together and when they got to the Marble staircase, they ended up stopping briefly and chatting. "So, no soul, hey, you wanna double check?" Harry said with a smirk on his face. "Don't mind if I do," Ginny said as she leaned in closer to Harry. Right then and there they started snogging furiously without a care in the world, but soon enough there was a tap on Harry's shoulder. Harry broke away from Ginny and turned to see who the source of the prodding was. Snape glared into Harry's eyes. "Well Potter, already breaking school rules, and we haven't even been here a day." "What school rules? I'm not allowed to enjoy myself just because you never could?" Snape's eyes turned fierce. "Well Mr. Potter, I think forty points from Gryffindor will do, just because I can, and a talk with the headmaster. Weasley, off to bed. You, follow me.” He added throwing a finger towards Harry. Harry didn't think he'd be in big trouble, it was just Snape. Who cared? When they go to the gargoyle, Snape spat out the password and then turned to Harry and said, "You can go by yourself and speak with him alone, Potter." There was a snide look in his stare. But Harry was more that glad to go by himself he said, "My pleasure." with a great grin plastered on. When he got inside, the grin faded from his face. There in the office stood two Dumbledores. He saw both the one he saw aimlessly wandering the corridor, and the one that was supposed to be in the office before him. "Good evening, Harry," they said in unison
