i believe this is the key that James Pickles is talking about.

It is on the bottom corner of a promotional poster for HBP, and there is much speculation on wether it is significant or not.

I personally think that it could have some significance, becuase ti would be kind of stupid to just put a random key in the corner of a poster blink.gif

p.s. this was weird. i logged on to veritaserum to start a thread about this, and then i saw that one had just been made. biggrin.gif so im happy

Well, it could be the key to a gringotts chamber, or the room which is always kept locked a DoM (can't remember if there was a keyhole, I don't think so).

It probably has something to do with some room we have never heard about before.

Or maybe it is just for a lock on the quidditch balls box. blink.gif

Also JK said something about a room that Harry has been to in Hogwarts that he doesn't know the full significance of yet, I can't remember if he went into any seemingly unimportant rooms that need a key.

Who knows... unsure.gif

It's probably just been thrown in to tease all the fans who are into speculating. A key, could be to anywhere, but we might assume it to be to the unopenable door at the Ministry of Magic or to a secret room at Hogwarts (isn't that the room of requirement, that JK was on about?)?

It doesn't exactly look like a very hard key to break the lock of though.

Sorry again, but whyere can I see the whole poster?
Also, I think that the room JK meant was the room of requirement because she said that before OotP was published.

Ahh, I knew she had said something about a room but I did not know when. Still, she may not be referring to that room, you never really know with JKR.

You must remember we are talking about wizards, it may be a magic key and/or lock.

One does have to ask if it is significant though. At least with the Mary Grand-Pre (sp) we know she has read the books. Do we have any clue as to who designed the one with a key on it?

The only room I can think of that requires a key is really either a Gringotts vault or the locked room that Dumbledore spoke of that has what Harry has in abundance- love. Plus, look at the key and the top of it where you grip it is a heart wrapped in what looks like ivy or vines. So it makes sense. Why else would there be a key like that? I bet Dumbledore or Harry decide to visit that room for a bit o' help.

Mugglenet is now reporting that the key has been confirmed as, " nothing more than a visual element". dry.gif

i guess iwas wrong cool.gif

The key may be just a visual element, as a teaser to say "Book 6 may provide you with the key" to Harry Potter storyline.

huh.gif i think the key is to the door in the DoM. Dumbledore said it is kept locked at all times and it did have a key hole in it because Harry tried to open it with the knife that Sirius gave him and the knife melted in the lock. So you would think that a key would only un-lock the door. rolleyes.gif
