Well, looks like it's that time again...new thread!! Yippee!! biggrin.gif

To those who are newcomers to the forums and to SPELL, let me just say a bit about our little club here.

As the thread title implies, this is the third outing for SPELL, and we've been here now for a very long time...started off originally as something of a role play, until we got kicked by the mods of the day (tongue.gif) and hence the SPELL club was born properly.

There's only one thing you need to become a member of SPELL - you must love Remus Lupin to absolute bits, and it also helps if you're a David Thewlis fan too!! You don't need to post here asking to become a member. All we ask is that if you do want to join, then you MUST please read through the last few posts (including this one, hopefully) and contribute something to the conversation. It doesn't have to be long, just to bring something new and fresh, that's all smile.gif

So what's SPELL all about?

1) SPELL stands for Society for the Prevention of [JKR] Ending Lupin's Life

2) Our Official tagline : Where werewolves are people too

3) Official Lupin Day : November 1st (though the celebrations are likely to last all week)

4) We have 4 affliates:
** S.O.S. (Squash Old Snape / Save Our Snape) - for or anti, whichever takes your fancy
** In Sirious Denial Support Group - for Lupin's best mate, Sirius!!
** C.U.B. (Crush Umbridge Brigade) - because she made dear Remus' life so difficult dry.gif
** M.O.O.O.P. (Muggles Of the Order Of the Phoenix) - For the dedication to all of those valiant order members.

5) The 3 "silver" rules :
RULE #1
While Lupin/David is the main star of LupinLand/SPELL, members are welcome to discuss Snape, Sirius, James, Peter and Umbridge as they are part of our affliates and the Marauders are pretty much integral to many of the conversations here. Just be sure they never steal the limelight from our Beloved, of course!!

RULE #2
The mention of the "D" word, unless used in reference to Umbridge (or Snape, if you want to squash him not save him) is strictly prohibited. We only want good and happy things for Remus, after all!! We really don't want to dwell on the possibility of....*gulp*...you know...sad.gif

RULE #3
Discussion regarding the Marauders is cool, but not at great length. There are some other great clubs here - like MOOOP if you'd like to really delve into the Order, their role in the next book, that sort of thing.

6) The team:

Ah....now here is where it gets slightly sticky. Ashleigh was the longest serving president here, but very sadly, she is now no longer able to maintain this thread as she would like to and so at the end of thread two, she retired sad.gif It's also a bit unfortunate that the staff list hasn't been updated for a while, and we've lost a few people since the last thread too, so a few positions need filling...wink.gif

It was Ash's wish that Marieke (Krieljte) be offered the "presidency", but I'm still waiting to hear about that for the moment, so until something firm is settled, I'll look after our little home here as much as possible as Honorary Member, but if the old hands of the thread could also do their part in keeping the conversations going here, it would be very much appreciated smile.gif

Otherwise, the team stands thus....(as far as I know!! tongue.gif)

President : Ygraine (Helen)
Honorary Member : Yours truly blush.gif
Design Manager : zyra123
Welcome Committee : HP_RULES! (Chelsea)
NoticeBoard Maintenance : Ygraine
Secretary / Fanfic Personnel : Position vacant - Apply here!!

7) Our noticeboard : yes you heard right, we have our very own noticeboard!! Drop by from time to time to check on any updates within SPELL and/or hang out at our lounge area (chatter-box)!!

***SPELL noticeboard***

You'll also find a list of recommended Fanfics with Remus as the main star!

8) We also have our own collective fanfic going here on the boards that all members, new and old, are very welcome to add to...have a read through, and take it in absolutely any direction you want to!! Here it is!!

---------------

Ooh...and thanks to Zyra, we also have a nice badge for you to put in your siggies....

SPELL badge

----------------

So...let the conversations begin!!

We've talked about many, many things in the past; from Lupin's role in the next book, to where he lives, which part of the country he's from, his relationship with Tonks, his personality, how he would react in certain situations, how he feels about Greyback, what he's doing with the other werewolves etc...anything and everything really, but seeing as how this is a brand new thread, and seeing as we've had many, many new members since the last thread, I don't think anyone would mind discussing a few things again.

So who'd like to get us started then?!

Oh man!! Nobody's said anything yet!!
I'm not an official member (yet...) but I HIGHLY support not getting rid of Lupin. After all, who else has Harry got to turn to? NOT many other people! He will probably help Harry with the Horcruxes and all. Also, he is a werewolf- he's got connections!

Yeah, it's back! tongue.gif I am so excited! I guess that we need a new topic, maybe that will get a few more people involved, it is always hard to start the topics so I guess that I will. Since you said that we could discuss things again, lets start out what people think Lupin's role in the next book will be. Feel free to change it, I just wanted to get the discussion running again and see what the new members think. I have to make my thoughts fast because I have homework, but I think that he'll marry Tonks and end up in a battle with Greyback, hopefully with him being victorious! Just wanted MyBroomstickIsBetterThanYours to get the opportunity to say something and become a member! When you do, WELCOME!

Well, as Greg can tell you all, I was rather upset at the lack of S.P.E.L.L. today. I am so happy to see that it has returned!

I am a proud member (ermm... ermm.gif ... at least I was in the old thread... I hope I still am!), and would be more than happy to help get the conversation going.

Now... Lupin's role in the next book... Excellent topic to start on, HP_RULES!. I really think he will take on a mentor role for Harry. I mean, first, Harry had Dumbledore... then Sirius... and it was like he was trying to get close to his father as much as possible. Sirius was a link to his parents that he had never had.

Now, with Sirius and Dumbledore both gone, I think that Harry will turn to Lupin to guide him. Lupin is very knowledgeable with the Dark Arts, and knew Sirius at school, so there is a chance that he may know something about Regulus (I believe Regulus is R.A.B.).

I really hope Lupin has a major role. He is a fantastic character, really.

Oh, thank Merlin, it's back! I was getting withdrawel symptons! laugh.gif But Squee!!! A brand new shiney thread!! Cheers Louise biggrin.gif It's sad that Ash has retired from SPELL, I just hope that she's ok smile.gif

As for our Remus' role in the next book? Hmm, i think we can say that he isn't going to be the father figure for Harry that most of us hoped for prior to the release of HBP. However, I do hope that he does get a bigger part in this book than he done for the last two. I also hope that Harry worls with Lupin, and doesn't do the same as he did to McGonagal. And if Harry does, i hope that Lupin will respect his decision and offer his services. I would hate to see Harry having to hide from Lupin, as well as Lupin becoming a bit to nosy. But I really do think that Lupin will just help Harry best he can.

I don't think that he will go back for 'spying' on the werewolves community, I think Voldemort will put an end to that. Because like quite a long time agon now, i think that Greyback knew that Lupin was spying for DD, but not to accept a fellow werewolf, (especially one of his own) Greyback would think that that would make him as bad as the 'humans' that he hates. Does that make sense?

Any way, a big Hooray for SPELL! magic.gif hug.gif (we need a confetti throwing emotcion wink.gif )

Btw, what would a secertery do? One in a organisation would take minutes... would it just be collecting notes, remembering where things are? That sort of thing... oh, i've confused myself now ph34r.gif

Ah.......
*cozies back into Lupinland* happy.gif

A role for Remus in the next book...I'd like to think that he would be a father figure to Harry, but I doubt it. Harry has already lost his real father, Sirius, and Dumbledore, and I think he's grown old enough now to know how to make some of his own decisions. Plus, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Harry was beginning to be afraid to attach himself with someone, because everyone he connect himself to sort of...well...you know. I can't say the "D" word in here.

Lupin and Harry also have their own agendas. Harry is off to find all those horcruxes, and Lupin's goal is to just stay alive. It's hard enough being around the smellier werewolves, but if things get crazy, who knows what could happen. I'd think Lupin would just keep it cool and work for he Ministry. I think all of us would enjoy watching him give Greyback a good kick in the pants, but I don't really think that's in Lupin's nature. I think there is a relationship in the future for our Lupin. Most likely Tonks. I think he's worked that out now, and if both of them make it to the end, they will probably stay together.

So, in conclusion, Lupin's role in the next book will to be totally awesome. thumbsup.gif

And I'm glad SPELL is back up and running! I hope Ash is all right and I hope Marieke will accept her position! hug.gif

I agree that he probably wont be the father figure we all would hope. Lupin is of course great for advice, but he and Harry will have a lot to accomplish and I am not sure how much time they will have to sit around and chat. As for the werewolves, I think that he will continue. DDs, well, you all know what happened, shouldn't have an effect on his mission. He might have to abandon it because he isn't gaining any support, but he'll probably continue to try. Just to add another question into the midst, what do you guys think that he will be doing if he doesn't continue to try and convince the werewolves? If he doesn't, after his wedding, he will probably need a new mission since everyone in the Order seems to have one, just wondering what you guys think.

I can't think of what Lupin would be doing if he wasn't trying to get on level ground with the werewolves... possibly doing other work for the Order but I can't think of what that work would be. In the seventh book, I think he's going to help Harry from a distance. Like listen to what Harry has to say, his suppositions and whatnot and give him advice.

Oh, wow, SPELL, I missed you. VTM isn't the same without people to fight for Remus Lupin's survival.

*slips back into LupinLand*

QUOTE
what is Lupin going to do in Book 7?
I think that he will continue his mission among the werewolves. He still has to pretend that he turned his back on wizarding society and is throwing his lot in with supporters of Voldemort, in the hope that Voldemort would give the werewolves a better chance of a life free of persecution.
He will have to act like an embittered man who wants to take revenge on wizards, all the time secretly looking for doubters among the werewolves who might be swayed against Voldemort when the final battle comes. His work to convince them is not easy and he has to be very careful lest he be killed as an enemy of the werewolves' big protector Voldemort. It's a thin line he has to thread.

Perhaps in the end he will be the one who will bring the battered, desillusioned survivors back to the wizarding fold. He can speak up for them -- they are his brothers, less lucky than he for being without a friend like Dumbledore. Perhaps he can make them trust wizards again, if there are wizards that would trust them.

My fanfic touches upon this theme too.

In the unlikely event that he will turn away from the mission to which he is so uniquely suited, I can't think of a single thing that he might find more important to do.

As mentioned before, I can't think of anything that's Lupin would do for the Order other than continue to try and convince the werewolves... I also agree with Bumblebee on the Dumbledore comment- he might be able to convince other werewolves but explaining how the wizards are better equiped. But with Dumbledore gone, I suppose that may be a bit harder. What other things could Lupin do or say to convince the werewolves though??

*sings happy song and dances in Lupinland*

what is Lupin going to do in Book 7?
Hmmm...I'm not sure what JKR is going to have him do. He is a vital member to teh Order, sonce he has connections with Greyback and what not. I really hope taht he gets over his problem and age and all that stuff, and gets together with Tonks. How great would that be! wub.gif I also think that he may help Harry and the others perhaps travel with them if Hogwarts isn't going to carry on. unsure.gif Or maybe he'll be the new headmaster at Hogwarts. tongue.gif

i absolutley love Lupin! not in the same way as tonks but i honestly admire him and everything. and maybe my opinion's different . . . ye i agree he won't really be a father figure to harry but i could see as a father figure . . . a lonley person living in regret of what his past holds . . . you never know he could have had a kid and hurt them . . . vivid imagination right?

In the 7th book apprently lupin plays quite a big part . . . but what could it be?

Yeah Spell has a new home! biggrin.gif Yippee!
Welcome to our newest members! I'll add your names to our noticboard right after I post this.

Lupin and book seven. happy.gif I've been also wondering about that for a while now.
I would love to see Lupin as head of the OotP, but he probably wouldn't accept that position due to his undercover work.
Headmaster at Hogwarts Padfoot08! laugh.gif I don't think McGonagall would be to happy with resigning from her newly headmaster duty. tongue.gif

I know JK said something about Lupin having a bigger role in the "upcoming" books (referring to 6 and 7) but I'm stil not convinced that he'll will play a major part. If he does, he might help Harry with the horcruxes.

Ooh Lupinites, don't forget there are still some vacant positions you can apply for. happy.gif

Okay, guys...we have a little problem. I'm afraid that Marieke is a little busy to keep this thread running herself at the moment, what with real life stuff going on and mod'ing duties, so it looks as though we're going to need some volunteers/recommendations for the 'President's' role.

We're going to need someone with the time to devote to this thread, the ability to keep the noticeboard updated, and to check in once in a while to revitalise the conversations if they seem to be drying up a little.

If y'all could send me an Owl either with some recommendations for who you think deserves the role, or you can volunteer yourselves if you want. I should say though, we really would prefer to consider people who've been here for a while, have a good posting record, and have been consistently active in this thread.

I should also say - please, be patient with me. My schedule is bursting at the moment, and while I will do my very best to get back to you ASAP, it might be a few days before I'm able to reply wink.gif

Oh man!! I hope this thread keeps holding... it's awesome to be part of. happy.gif

I think that Lupin will have a big enough role in book seven. Probably not a major major role, but a good one.

Maybe... he'll have to do something like Hagrid did and go far away on a mission or something?
