I have really bad trouble sleeping. I lie awakw for ages and just don't go to sleep. I'm lucky if I get 5 hours sleep. Does anyone else have problems sleeping?

Sorry if this is a repeat but, I couldn't find a thread on this topic,

I've been diagnosed with acute insomnia too. Which really sucks because I'm on stage like everyday and my stamina has to be up. I drink a lot of tea, lol. Something that's ... disgusting ... but really used to help me before I was diagnosed was a special kind of tea with catnip in it. Apparently it's like a tranquilizer and it's herbal. It's gross but it used to work for me!

Yeah, I take Zopiclone - a prescription sleeping pill. One of the benefits to having a doctor for a boyfriend!

I have a bit of trouble sleeping too. Now since i have school, i lie in bed trying hard to get to sleep. What bugs me the most is when you have the lights on and you feel completely tired, then you turn off the lights and get in bed and feel energized. i hate that. Somehow i fall asleep after staying awake for an hour or two, then wake up for school wanting another hour. Luckily, i get that hour on wednesdays for EOP.

But there's this other thing that bugs me: First saturday in the school year. That friday night, i went to bed at around midnight. woke up at seven am. i wasn't tired or anything.

Hot milk doesn't make me sleepy. My math teacher said that taking a hot bath/shower helps. But the thing is: it makes me more awake.

I can't fall asleep. I've never tested for insomnia though. I'm always afraid to try or use sleeping pills or anything because of the side effects. It's really bad though because I can't fall aslleep, yet, i never want to get up. So, I don'tt hink it's insomnia, because once I fall asleep, I'd love to and be able to sleep for at least 17 hours. I know that from experience. Thats how much I slept on the 20th, so that I could get the book at midnight and read it all in one sitting.

I used to have all kinds of trouble going to sleep. Now I take an allergy pill and that helps, because something in it makes me drowsy, and it helps my sinuses so they don't bug me while I'm trying to sleep!

Also, I used to lie awake worrying about things. Now I play this really dumb mind game. I have a movie collection, so I think of the last movie I watched. I start counting off on my fingers all the movies I have that also have actors in them that were in the movie I just watched. Then I think back to the second movie and count off how many actors were in that movie that I also have in other movies! Needless to say, it keeps my mind occupied and I soon drift off.

So...

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire?

These actors are also in these movies in my collection:

HP and the Sorcerer's Stone
HP and the Chamber of Secrets
HP and the Priosoner of Azkaban
The Tailor of Panama
Anna and the King
Angela's Ashes
Sense & Sensibility
Truly Madly Deeply
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Galaxy Quest
Sleepy Hollow
Gosford Park
Tea With Mussolini
Willow

And more...

And so on...did I bore you to sleep yet? Always works for me! tongue.gif

I have been experiencing sleeping problems lately and it gets really annoying at times. I got back from holidays a couple of days ago and probably because of the different bed and environment and stuff, i can't sleep well at nights. As a result, i keep waking up feeling exhausted and i can't sleep during the day since i am studying for my exams. I fear i might end up like Al Patsino... wacko.gif
Anyways, i think the best solution is to exhaust yourself and not sleep at all for a couple of days. This way, when the night comes, you will feel so tired that you'll fall asleep instantly. If you keep having problems no matter what, maybe you should see a doctor before you end up shooting someone for cafeine! laugh.gif

So it's 3am. I have to wake up to go to work in 4 hours. This sucks. I've been like this now for a week and a half. Any suggestions?

I've never had insomnia, but I've experienced only one time when I didn't sleep for a whole night, and that was because I had coffee that day. My suggestion is to read a book, but some kind of childish book. I wouldn't call Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone that, but it's mood is the lightest one of the series, and that a good book to read while lying in bed. Also, if you have homework due the next day, do it in bed because that always helps me fall asleep (although I don't get to finish my homework dry.gif ).

I don't think depriving yourself of sleep for a couple of days and then sleeping for a whole day is a pretty good idea, since it's changing your sleeping patterns, making you more unhealthy and even more exhausted.

I had insomnia once,I was really stressed out....
Eventually I went to the doctor and he told me there are lots of factors that cause it; i.e.: eating late at night, hunger, alcohol, caffeine, nicotine...
There are also some physical health problems such as sleep apnoea ( is when you breathe abnormally while asleeping)

There are many things-according to what he told me-you could try before taking any medicines:

- Avoid taking cat-naps during the day.
- Reduce the number of cups of coffee, etc especially later on in the day.
- Take regular exercise, but avoid strenuous activity immediately before going to bed.
- Try to get into a daily routine. Go to bed the same time each night and get up the same time each morning...if your time schedule lets you tongue.gif
- Avoid heavy or rich meals, especially in the few hours before bedtime.
- Becoming unnecessarily stressed over insomnia can lead to a vicious cycle.
- If you can't still sleep , get up and read in a dim light until you feel sleepy. Don't watch television or lie in bed thinking about how much sleep you are missing.... (although sometimes I find that television bears me to sleep laugh.gif)
- Other activities that can create a relaxed mood include taking a warm bath, having a milky drink, or listening to soothing music.
- Mentally dealing with the day's unfinished business is also helpful. Writing down any worries to deal with the next day may help to clear them from the mind and prevent them re-surfacing in the early hours.

Well, that kind of helped me in some sort of way (my insomnia problem was not only caused by stress, so I ended up taking some pills)
Anyways, I hope I've been of help biggrin.gif

Two months ago I got this terrible job I am working now, where I work 10 nights straight, then get four nights off. I start work either at 10 P.M. or at 1 A.M. depending on what I'm scheduled to do. So my sleep aptterns have gone bananas.

Sometimes I can't sleep because I ache so! But I remind myself to lie as quietly as possible. I figure just resting is good for me too. I'll take what I can get. And to a degree, it helps. And the stupid movie mind game. wink.gif

A hot bath right before bed can do wonders in relaxing the body! It's worth a try if you always take showers. I sleep much better after work if I have a hot bath.
