Yeah, wouldn't Harry have died during the quest to save the philosohpers stone? If it was just Harry and Hermione who went, they would have failed at the chess game.
This is what i think is important about the trios friendship-they pretty much need each other. If Ron didn't ask to sit in harry's compartment, well nnnnnnnnnnnewwwwwwwww (Car sound) there goes Harry's hope of survival!
Ron was more important thatn he thought in PS though, i reakon, speaking on the quest for the PS. He was the only one good at chess and what do you know-there's a giant chess game to get past. cowincidence? I think JKR did that on pirpose.
To give Ron something he's ggod at-his thing and something that no one can take away from him.

Your right Moon! Harry had to be taught Wizards Chess, right??? So who wouldve taught him if he never met Ron??? Hermione and Harry would be dead, thats what.
And, really, the trio do need eachother... their what completes them... Well, you get what i mean! Im sure that ut was no coewinkydink that JKR gave Ron the ability he has at Chess! It is a very important thing that he got! Well, at least for the SS!!!

Hey Guys! I'm so glad there's a sight here for Ron! He's definitley one of my favorites! I mean, there aren't many other characters who can come in with just totally random comments to make you laugh. He really adds the nessacary comic relief to the plot. Have you ever noticed that when Ron and Harry aren't talking and its just Harry and Hermione everything is alot more serious? Like all they do is hang out in the library and worry about whatever it is that Harry has to do next. Example, in GoF before the first task.

Yeah Weasley_girly, i'ved noticed that too. Comic relief is always-Ron. I believe that he deserves more really, like, he's not always the one who never takes anything seriously, i believe he deserves more of a spot in the limelight.
Secretly, i believe Ron also wishes that. I mean, we get a brief idea of where he's coming from in GoF (When he and Harry arn't speaking) and he's really got it quite rough.
I mean, having all these older brothers, and being constantly overshadowed, then having a friend who's famous, and the other who's really brainy. Then even Ginny's good!
Poor Ron-he needs a hug!

Hey i haven't been on for awile so Yeh I'm on! welcom one and all new members!!! And i agree rons role isn't and shouldn't be so much of a comic releif. I mean he is funny and all but he does have more too him then people like to think. he is a charecter who is basicaly over looked and its not fair. HE is cool and just as smart as Harry. He is more sensitive and i think braver because he uses his head more before he does stuff. Harry's is alot more of a reckless bravery. I'm not sure if that made sence. oh well i'll think about it and post again latter.

OMG!!! I am soooooo sorry I haven't been in here in ages!!! I am still soooooooo shocked that they are cutting out the quidditch/Weasley is our King scene!!! The one bit where Ron gets some attention without Harry's help and they cut it out of the movie !!!

They're cutting those scenes? I'm not so sure, 'cause if they do there won't be that scene where Hermione kisses Ron on the cheeck, and in the movies the R/H relationship is showed more then in the books

Maybe they just won't show the acctual match, maybe they will just show before and after - because, the match doesn't matter that much, but everything else does. If you know what I mean (the badges, the kiss, Ron's awful play...)

I can't believe they are cutting the quidditch scenes either! I can't imagine Rupert Grint on a broomstick though . The films do have a bit more R/H in it but maybe they can work it in some other way. Like in PoA when Harry is on the hippogriff and they hold hands because i don't think that was in the book (or am i wrong?) Anyway i love Ron!!!!!!!!!

I agree, in the book they didn't show the actual match. So it could be like that. They showed the begining and then Harry and Hermione went and met Grawp and by the time they got back the match was over. And I'm pretty sure they have to inclued Grawp because that kinda played a role through the whole book.
