Firstly, I always thought that Harry and Ginny would end up together.

And I liked where Ginny's character was going right up until the end of OotP.

But, I did not think that her character was paticularly likeable in HBP.

I expected we would have seen a lot more of Ginny in this book to give us a better understanding of her character and what finally pushed Harry into falling for her.

Instead Ginny hung around in the background of the book again, with only the slightest indications of Harry's growing feelings for her, and with no understanding of why he started to like her in that way.

I didn't want the book to turn into a teenage romance novel (which it almost did in parts with all the 'whos going out with who' subplots), but because Harry is the main character, and the one who I feel the greatest affiliation for, I was disappointed that his and Ginny's coming together wasn't handled a bit more thoroughly.

And I thought the final scene between them where he tells her they cant be together, was written with very little emotional sensitivity.

By the end of the book, I just didn't care enough for Ginny and Harry to be together. Not at all like Hermione and Ron's growing relationship, which I have great affection for.

Did you think it was handled well, and are you fond of who Ginny is now you have read HBP? unsure.gif

well, there's always that sort of lingering thing for your best friend's sibbling. who doesn't have that? please! i have a brother 4 years older than i am, and i just can't stop drooling. anyway, i'm a little dissapointed that ginny turned out to be a little like a vamp. no, not a vamPIRE, a vamp, as in, well, you know. she's got how many brothers trying to look after her? sure, she has every right to get around, but it seemed a bit much. we'll see what happens in book 7, but i can understand why the ginny/harry is logical. oh, and hari, i agree about fleur, that's supposed to be her...and cedric isn't all that good looking, either. stupid casting director...

Krum looks pretty good looking, dark and mysterious and all that. Cedric looks pretty whimpy and Fleur not nearly hot enough for a quarter Veela.

What France ran out of hot girls? Yeah right.

MOD NOTE: Please do not go off-topic. There are other threads where you can talk about Fleur.

Err... Let's get back to topic guys... or you might find the mods coming down on you. unsure.gif

I just dont think JK did a very good job on writing Ginny's part in HBP.

I expect JK knew all along that Harry and Ginny were going to get together, but I dont think she translated it very well onto paper.

Ginny came off as being fickle at the least, and even aggressive and arrogant.

She seemed so over confident with the way she threw hexes around at people who annoyed her, and she flew off the handle at Hermione in a very nasty way, as well as dobbing her in for kissing Krum.

She was not very endearing, I think. huh.gif

I get it, why Harry feel for her. For Ginny isn't just Ginny, but a Weasley, with it comes the kind of love from family Harry could never grasp. She is also pretty, Harry just couldn't she that yet. I don't think she's vamp. She's had two boyfriends, she went out with them both for quite a while. And she's 15, kissing a boy, gota say not uncommon.

Sure Ginny was a background character, but that doesn't lower the cuteness factor.

It is a little weird that harry, will go after a younger girl. When, it seems he can get anyone he wants. It does make sense though that he does like Ginny and that after several years he recipricates feelings for her.

She liked him when he was just bad potter. This could make things funny over the summer if he hangs out with the weasleys. Though I think he should concentrate on his task ahead, harry has do something that Voldie can't, he can love. And that has made all the difference!

Ginny was one of my favorites here...even though she wasn't as prominent as she could have been. I really didn't want Harry and Ginny to get together in book 5, but here I loved it. As for the "younger girl" thing someone mentioned, one year really isn't much. It is a little weird that she's his very best friend's sister...I don't think it was entirely realistic how easily Ron took it. In real life, that would be really, really awkward.

i liked her...i always have...she's funny and keeps harry happy...i bet most people hated her 'attitude' towards ron but what could you expect?? she was just letting out all the frustration she'd been feeling about always being 'protected' as a little sister...you'll notice that she'd been reasonably calm about the whole thing before but she flipped at that moment when they caught her with dean...anyways i'm just happy j.k gave her more attention this time round and that ginny and harry are (finally) together...well kinda...

I always liked Ginny but in the HBP she's way too cool, she doesn't show any real emotions and that's just a bit weird, isn't it. This Harry-Ginny thing went way too fast, and when they got together, Harry was as cool in this relationship as Ginny, remember book 5 with Cho, he was so nervous back then. There should have been more about them and for me even more important about Ron and Hermione.

I think Ginny is likeable. She's smart and funny (fred and george's influence I think)

I totally understand how someone can fall for someone without much warning.

In the book it talked about Harry's "what is that feeling" "its just a sisterly love thing" "oh no its more"

These things just happen.
