When Hagrid introduces himself to Harry in the first book, he claims to be Keeper of the Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts. When we are first introduced to Hogwarts, he see that indeed he is gameskeeper, put what about the keys part? I am unable to think of any instances where his 'Keeper of the Keys' job comes into play. Maybe this will play an important role in book seven. Perhaps the Horcrux is locked away somewhere in Hogwarts and only Hagrid has the key?

Discuss and speculate.

no, it won't play an important role in book seven.
jo said that it just means that he will let you in and out of Hogwarts, so it’s slightly more interesting than that but it’s not loads more interesting. So, again, that is something that people shouldn’t get too excited about.

Judging by what you said, the part where he lets you in Hogwarts, I can't help but stating that he is the one who first brings you into the castle on your first day (when he takes the first years across the lake).

I don't think being Keeper of the Keys part will play an important role, but I do hope that Hagrid will play an important role in the conclusion of the war; along with Grawp of course. Grawp has only done one thing since he has been introduced, helping Harry and Hermione escape Umbridge and the Centaurs in OOTP. So I really hope there will be more to him in the next book.

Yeah, I don't think that Hagrid's role as keeper of the keys at Hogwarts is going to be important. But I do think that Hagrid will be! Hopefully, with Grawp's help, he can recruit more giants, or at least stop them from helping Voldemort.

What is Harry has to go back to Hogwarts, even if Hogwarts has closed down? What is there is a clue there that Harry has to find? Something maybe in the Room of Requirement?

Hagrid would have to let him in then.

hagrid has to play a important role, he is harry's only remaining farther figure, and besides he has a traitor to kill i don't dout he will bring grawp to the mix of some could-rival-minas-tirith confrontation. but another thing, i would like to see norbert return to his old master now he will have fully grown, and turn the tide kind of like the eagles turning up at the creck of doom

Haha, no I doubt Hagrid's keys will play a big role in this book. He's just a character to help Harry. He's like Ron and Hermione. A friend.

Hagrid has a special place in my heart. His unfaultering love and bond with Dumbledore especially when DD said to Prof Magonagil "I trust Hagrid with my life".
When he collected Harry when his parents were killed and at DD's funeral Hagrid carried DD's body to his burial site. I thought that was the ultimate respect DD paid to Hagrid. Hagrid was protective of DD and now Harry. Even if Hagrid doesn't have exceptional powers like DD or Harry he would give his life for them.

marie1, I agree with your post, but Hagrid isn't a background charactor, or a charactor that's the biggest part of the plot. Hagrid's just like any other charactor, Ron, hermione, Dumbledore...They're all helping Harry.

Yeah I have no doubt at all that Harry's friends will help Harry in his task. And I don't dispute Hagrid will take equal part in Harry's task. I was just paying homage to Hagrids character.

JKR has said that Grawp comes back, so I have to believe that Hagrid comes back - and that the trio returns to Hogwarts. Hagrid will help defend the trio at some point, and may even help pass information unwittingly to Harry that turns out to be important, just as he did in Books 1 and 2.

Hagrid will most definitely have an important role in the last book. He has been in all the other ones. He is a great person, just incredible. He most probably doesnt have a clue about the Horcruxes but he can help Harry in many ways. I liked the things said here like Grawp and him convincing some giants to not fight with Voldemort. Also that Norbert could come back and help out, sounds crazy, but having a Norwegian Ridgeback as a helper is a plus in a lot of ways. Hagrid has been with Harry from the beggining and im sure he will be with him in the end too.

keeper of the keys.humm.well he DOES let harry into hogwarts and stuff.but i've heard that the horcrux is hidden in hogwarts and i can believe that.i mean he WAS at hogwarts for 7 years,2 of which he knew what a horcrux was.i mean they got hogsmeade weekends and they were by the lake like every weekend.and he went to see dumbledore for a job.but if hagrid knew about the horcrux, why didn't he tell dumbledore about it.unless he was under the imperius curse which i can't see either because he is so great friends with dumbledore.
