What do you think of the Song 'Do The Hippogriff'?I think this sing is great!
It makes a change to the classical music they do, I think it is a very funky song. Tell me what you think.

Erm...I had to think there for a moment, but you're talking about the Weird Sisters song from the movie, right?
Well, I couldn't watch it, to be honest. It was so horrifically cringe-worthy that I found it painful and I can't express the depths of my delight that the filmmakers had the presence of mind to edit it out.
Ewww....just....ergh....awful. Embarassing. And Flitwick crowd-surfing?! Oh, don't get me started, I'll be here all day...

i think the song is great, the lyrics and everything are very catchy, and they've got all kinds of wizard creatures in the lyrics, so its different... and its great!!
cheers!

The biggest problem I have, is how unconvinced the guy who plays the lead singer is. You can't rip off old school rock like that, it's just wrong. I know he is really a singer, but he can't act - and he doesn't believe (in a musical way) in the song he's singing, so that's screamingly obvious.
And the whole scene has something lower-class-Hollywood (maybe Warner Bros) about it - not Hogwarts at all. It's a pop song tried to disguise as rock, and sorry, it doesn't work for me.
I guess it could have been worse, but I'm still very glad they chucked it. It doesn't fit with Harry's world.

I think it does!
Teenagers don't dance to classical music, I mean it would be completely weird for them to be dancing to classical music, right the way through the Yule Ball. It is ok, for the first part of it when it is the first dance, but most teenagers just aren't into classical music, the films are getting more like reality, with there relationships.

Apr 16 2006, 11:28 PM
Yes, but it's supposed to be a formal event, hence the dress code. After the serious stuff, let your hair down by all means, but I totally understand what Capricorn is saying.
And reality in relationships doesn't really have any impact on the music they listen to - it's a magical world, a completely different one, so why should teenagers who are a part of that world listen to the same type of music?
It was just the lyrics that I thought were kind of stupid anyway...well, actually...the whole sequence was, but the lyrics were the thing that really had me reaching for the remote.

I thought it as quite cool, how they out magical words in the song, it makes it different. Although I don't like the singer much.

Well, I liked him when he used to be in Pulp. Used to listen to a lot of their stuff back in my teenage days

He's definitely weird enough to be a weird sister though! But I think I would rather have seen a proper rocker there - like Alice Cooper, maybe...or Ozzy Osbourne...
Ooh, now there's an idea!!!

Ozzy Osbourne would be a great person to sing a song, that would be reall popular!

I think these are the best soundtracks that there has ever been for the Harry Potter flims. My favourite song so far would have to be 'Do The Hippogriff', or that one for PS the song that was played the most and on the trailers aswell, it mightb have been the same fior the COS as well. (sorry, I don't know what ti s called!)

I personally think that they could have found a better singer for that song. the song itself is fine, but anyone could ruin it if it's performed wrong. If they had found someone who could perform that style of music, it would have been better. I also agree with those who were annoyed by Flitwick's croud surfing. That was kind of stupid...

Me and me cousin love this song! It's so wonderfully funny, "boggey down like a unicorn." This song is not suppose to be taking its self seriously. We dance crazy to it, it's so much fun.

I didn't like any of the Rock-n-Roll type music in the film. Now don't get me wrong I love modern music....Type O Negative, No Doubt, Green Day....but that music that they had for the Yule Ball scenes was just terrible. It was cheesy and out of place in a Harry Potter movie. I hope they choose better stuff for the next movie.

Haha! Flitwick crowd surfing! Or was it the conductor that was crowd surfing? I think he is a tiny man as well

.
Well I am glad that they did edit this song from the final film because for such a beautiful and formal event, a song like that does not work. The Triwizard Tournament is a tournament with a rich and century old history, I think that traditions should be kept but yes, if the students want to let their hair down then okay but maybe they could try an alternative form of ballroom dancing, maybe latin dancing as this would at least be a form of ballroom dancing but then again it would be stretching tradition.
However, if you are not listening to the song at the Yule Ball then I think it is a fun song to dance around to and laugh at because the lyrics are funny and the song is loud and crazy!
One more thing, the Weird Sisters, I am assuming the name is taken from Macbeth but none of the band members are female! Maybe it should be The Weird Brothers!

I love that song. The first few times my little sister heard it she would sing and she's really little.
One time when we had visitors we all dnaced. We got pretty wild. Did anyone see th eguy playing th bagpipe like thing in the back? He looked kind of like Sirius with brown hair.
'Oh can you dance like a hippogriff? mamammamama!

WUHU! I have the whole song at my computer and I just love it! I think the dance was a little too much, but the song is sooooo good

"Can you dance like a hippegriff? mamamamamamamamama!"

Flitwick was the conductor.
But as for the song i really liked it, i thought it was really funny and catchy.
But in HPs world it didn't work. Though i thought Hermione and Krum dancing was cute. My friends and I constantly made fun of the little 'mosh-pit' that they tried to get going during that song. Sorry but a mosh-pit in the wizarding world, it's just not right! They wouldn't act like muggles, they would act like wizards and witches, and seeing as the Tri-wizard tournament and the Yule Ball were meant to be formal and stuff I just couldn't get used to the fact that they were acting so informal and...well....muggle-like.

I love the Do the Hippogriff song. As soon as I found out it's title I downloaded it immediately. It's like a modern rock song with magical words! Brilliant!
Also, as I said in another thread, I think that the way that everyone is 'rocking out' to the band shows that really all of the student are just regular kids that want to party and have fun!

I didnt really like this part of GOF. It was so unexpected but i suppose I would have liked to have seen more of the waltzing. It wasnt mentioned in the book and it wasnt traditional to the yule ball. I think the song was funny but it wasnt neccesary. I think its unfair that they have to cut things out of the book like the house-elves but they add things like this.

It was mentioned, well to some extent anyway, they mentioned that the weird sisters were playing...but I don't think there was anything about a pathetic mosh-pit... (I found their little attempt at a mosh pit funny) but there was some mention of it in the book, I think they just took it a little farther than the book did. And also, the tri-wizard tournament hasn't been done in over a hundred years so some things were bound to change, the students wouldn't want to be doing traditional dancing or anything because times have changed since the tournament was last played.
As I've said before though I LOVE this song

! It is just so funny and to have someone like Jarvis Cocker in a HP film is wicked!!

I love it on the second disk of the DVD where they have the delted scenes and it shows the whole of the song being played

i have to agree with xXTonksXx, it wasnt exactly expected because at the begining you see the 4 champions dancing with there partner (not sure what type of dance, im not a big dancing fan) and then it just goes into the wierd sisters playing, and then you just have whats supposed to be funny to most people but i think of that scene as like marmite, you either love it or you hate it, i borderline hate it, i dont have anything wrong with it its just that its not exactly relevant to the yule Ball. And because its a ball you would think of that as classical music, lots of slow dancing and not much excitment.

I thought that part was just weird, I had pictured the Yule Ball as a formal event, I was a little shocked when they started rocking out and Flitwick was crowd surfing. It felt a little out of place, and what would be the point of learning to dance if they only danced for like 2 minutes?

Well, I did like the song... Actually, I found it quite sticky! I remember myself going "mamama mamama mamama" for a few days after watching the movies. It think it was pretty good for a teenager's dance. The whole event had a formal part, for all the teachers to dance, with the waltz and everything, then they got loose with the Weird Sisters (they had to be weird..). I think overall it was pretty good. Of course I don't like to hear mine like the concert version "Are you ready!!!" It gets annoying, but in the movie, it was okay.
My favorite songs through the movies are Hedwig's Theme, Double Trouble and Do the Hippogriff. They remind me of the Harry Potter world, even though they are so extremelly different, but maybe it's all because of the changes throughout the times. Anyway, Hedwig's Theme will never go old!!!
