...Reading Harry Potter has created many memorable moments whats your favourite?

MOD EDIT- Can I suggest that you could have posted up your own memorable moment in THIS post- this would have avoided getting a reminder to post more than just a one-liner wink.gif
#fawkes#
uummmm my favourite moment would have to be probably when harry shouts at umbridge or snape. but then again i quite like the bits when harry starts falling for ginny and has arguments in his head i think that is funny
whats yours

My favourite moment is when he beats Cedric to the Twiwizard Cup and after all the preparation and desire to win the cup- you expected him to take it, but by sharing it with Cedric, it just seemed amazing...I can't really put the feeling into words.

I also love the way Jo can play with your emotions e.g When Dumbledore or Sirius dies you makes you cry but the way she manipulates the reader into feeling the way she wants you to feel - it's phenemonal

Cool topic...um, I don't know if I have a favorite moment...they're all so good. I really like the part where Harry looks in the Mirror of Erised. I have a million more, but I can't list them all.

notdumbledore
Mine would have to be Harry finds out the truth about Sirius and Sirius asks him to go stay with him. You can feel the emotion that Harry is feeling and the jubilation. At that one moment I felt like everything was going to be alright for Harry.

My favorite moment is from the end of the first book, it makes me choke up everytime (book and movie), its not that big of a deal but I love it. It's at the house cup ceremony when Dumbledore is giving out the 'last minute points' and he awards Neville 10 because "it takes a great deal of courage to stand up to your enemies, but a great deal more to stand up to your friends". This is prob. my fav moment.... I dont really know why, its just so pure and I love the fact that Dumbledore recognizes Neville for this! So there it is! Ciao for now!
George's Girl
this is hard.

a favourite moment? that's like asking for the funniest line, or my favourite character (which tends to change depending on which mood i am in, lol)

one i will always love is the the GOF, when Rita Skeeter goes to interview harry in the cupboard. "It was a broom cupboard. Harry stared at her." purely for the way JK writes it. you can see the amazed look on Harry's face, and read his mind as he thinks 'you can't be serious'. it's nothing emotional and deep, but just a moment that always sticks in my mind.

i also love the end of GOF (strange that it's another one from the 4th book. OotP is my fave on whole...) where harry's in the hospital wing and mrs weasley hugs him. so beautiful.

QUOTE
Mrs Weasley set the potion sown on the bedside cabinet, bent down, and put her arms around Harry. He had no memory of ever being hugged like this, as though by a mother. The full weight of everything he had seen that night seemed to fall in upon him as Mrs Weasley held him to her. His mother’s face, his father’s voice, the sight of Cedric, dead on the ground, all started spinning in his head until he could hardly bear it, until he was screwing up his face against the howl of misery fighting to get out of him. –p620

such an intense moment. great. love it.

there are so many more, but i won't bore you all. lol, besides it'd take me a whole page to list them all. what can i say. this is why i read the books. great moments.
accio_amanda
Wow, I have so many favorite moments.

I think my favorite moment was in OotP when they were in St. Mungos and saw Neville visiting his parents. Even though we found out about his parents previously, this made it so much more real. To see how Neville has been affected, and how Ron and Hermione react when finding out. I just loved it. It was incredibly sad. And then when his mom gives him the Droobles wrapper, and Harry swears he saw Neville put it in his pocket. I almost burst into tears.

The One
My favorite is

Ron: (having a nightmare) the spiders, they want me to tap dance, I dont want to tap dance
Harry: You tell them spiders Ron.
Ron: Yea, yea i'll tell them spiders, yea

There are very many short monents that I enjoy, but the most memorable is the beginning of the first book. The story begins... It is very touching.
And the beginning of the fifth book is also impressive.
As you can see, I love the first chapters )))))))))

I was reading through OOTP when I thought of a new thread...what about favorite scenes. I know one can to mind for me, but what do you think? Which is your favorite? Why do you like it?

Well, one of my particular favorites would have to be in 'The Order of the Phoenix.' This scene includes the famous Weasley escape from Hogwarts. Although I cannot why exactly I like it, maybe you can help me. Well, here it is!

" 'So!' said Umbridge triumphantly, whom Harry realized was standing just a few stairs in front of him, once more looking down upon her prey. 'So . . . . you think it is amusing to turn a school corridor into a swamp, do you?' 'Pretty amusing, yeah,' said Fred, looking back up at her without the slightest sign of fear. Filch elbowed his way closer to Umbridge, almost crying with happiness. 'I've got the form, Headmistress,' he said hoarsely, waving the piece of parchment Harry had just seen him take from her desk, 'I've got the form and I've got the whips waiting . . . . Oh, let me do it now . . . .’ ‘Very good, Argus,’ she said. ‘You two,’ she went on, gazing down at Fred and George, ‘are about to learn what happens to wrongdoers in my school.’ ‘You know what?’ said Fred. ‘I don’t think we are.’ He turned to his twin. ‘George,’ said Fred, ‘I think we’ve outgrown full-time education.’ ‘Yeah, I’ve been feeling that way myself,’ said George lightly. ‘Time to test our talents in the real world, d’you reckon?’ asked Fred. ‘Definitely,’ said George. And before Umbridge could say a word, they raised their wands and said together, ‘Accio Brooms!’ Harry heard a loud crash somewhere in the distance. Looking to his left he ducked just in time – Fred and George’s broomsticks, one still trailing the heavy chain and iron peg with which Umbridge had fastened them to the wall, were hurtling along the corridor toward their owners. They turned left, streaked down the stairs, and stopped sharply in front of the twins, the chain clattering loudly on the flagged stone floor. ‘We won’t be seeing you,’ Fred told Professor Umbridge, swinging his leg over his broomstick. ‘Yeah, don’t bother to keep in touch,’ said George, mounting his own. Fred looked around at the assembled students, and at the silent, watchful crowd. ‘If anyone fancies buying a Portable Swamp, as demonstrated upstairs, come to number ninety-three, Diagon Alley – Weasley’s Wizard and Wheezes,’ he said in a loud voice. ‘Our new premises!’ ‘Special discounts to Hogwarts students how swear they’re going to use our products to get rid of this out bat,’ added George, pointing at Professor Umbridge. ‘STOP THEM!’ shrieked Umbridge, but it was too late. As the Inquisitorial Squad closed in, Fred and George kicked off from the floor, shooting fifteen feet into the air, the iron peg swinging dangerously below. Fred looked across the hall at the poltergeist bobbing on his level above the ground. ‘Give her hell from us, Peeves.’ And Peeves, whom Harry had never seen take an order from a student before, swept his belled hat from his head and sprang to a salute as Fred and George wheeled about to tumultuous applause from the students below and sped out of the open front doors into the glorious sunset.” (Pages 673-675 The Order of the Phoenix)

Haha that was a great scene...if you hated Umbridge (i doubt that nobody didnt) then thats probably why you liked this scene....it was great the weasley twins getting one over on her and humiliating her and Umbridge not being able to do a darn thing about it!...Classic! happy.gif

My favourite is in HBP where at the end at DD's funeral Ron is stroking hermione's hair wub.gif wub.gif i no its soppy happy.gif but it was so sweet...*sighs*

hehehe

Well, I truly liked the Weasley twins escape but I totally prefer the scene when Dolores Umbridge is going to leave Hogwarts during the feast, with Peeves after her whacking her in the head with Minervas walking stick, and Minervas comment on that occasion ahhh, there's no better scene or at least that's the absolutely funniest scene...
FawkesThePheonix
Man, I already love this thread! Great job to the person that pondered over this brilliant idea.

My favorite scene is probably in Prisoner of Azkaban. Even though it isn't my favorite book, I think my favorite scene is probably in it. Or maybe Half Blood Prince.

The scene from PoA is when Hermione smacks Malfoy, not punches, but smacks.

The scene from HBP is when Umbridge is making this stupid redundant cracks about the centaurs, and they take her away. Man I wish that could happen everytime somebody made some stupid crack about somebody, or something else!

Well, one of my favorite jokes in hp books, when Harry was looking for Dumbledore and met Nick:

"Fantastic," said Harry bitterly, looking around at the hard floor. "Really brilliant. Yeah, I would go and take it up with Dumbledore if he was here, because he's the one who wanted me to —"
"He is here," said a voice behind Harry. "Professor Dumbledore returned to the school an hour ago."
Nearly Headless Nick was gliding toward Harry, his head wobbling as usual upon his ruff.
"I had it from the Bloody Baron, who saw him arrive," said Nick. "He appeared, according to the Baron, to be in good spirits, though a little tired, of course."
"Where is he?" said Harry, his heart leaping,”
"Oh, groaning and clanking up on the Astronomy Tower, it's a, favorite pastime of his —"

I think I realised why I liked the scene so much. It seems to me that I enjoy watching evil headmistresses being taken advantage of. Although i did not show this tidbit before, I would like to mention that, in MY favorite scnene tears of joy did start coming out of my eyes. I love the twins!!

i also posted this on the funny moments....but i LOVE wub.gif when the D.A are in the room of requirement and ron is like..(not accurate)

Ron: i disarmed you hermione
Hermione:Yes, if you count tripping over your own feet and knocking my wand out of my hand

SlytherinHeadGirl05
This is just a mere sentence but it's HBP and when the Gryffindor boys are all talking about Apparating finally. Seamus is talking and is brandishing his wand while talking, in Charms they're suppose to be using the Aguamenti(sp?) spell but his hand movements make it come out like a firehose and hits Professor Filtwick and into the wall lol. Seamus' punishment is lines

"I am a wizard not a babboon brandishing a stick" LMAO

I hate Umbridge with the power of a thousand suns!

Sorry for that outburst.... I got a little excited, but by reading OotP I have relieved my burning hatred for that vile woman. Sorry, won't happen again, I just needed to get that out of my system.... Sorry.....

HAHAHA

writer101
Hmmm... my favorite scene... that's a hard one.
I think I'd have to go with any time that Ron and Hermione were fighting. I know it gets on poor Harry's nerves, but I think some of the things they say are hilarious!
Oh, and I also thought in Book 6 the scene with Malfoy crying in the bathroom... I felt so bad for him! I'm like, "Poor baby!" However, I've always loved Malfoy's character... I'd have a major crush on him if he wasn't so evil. These signs of weakness are kind of good, for me at least....
Anyway, that scene almost made me cry. I thought it was really sad.
Of course, both Sirius and Dumbledore's deaths were really really really really sad, I cried through both of them.
iluvstrongbad2004
Of course, leave to good old JKR to rip out our hearts strings like that! Sirius! Dumbledore! Why did you both have to die so young!!!

....Well maybe not to young.....

I found another awesome scene book 5.

"You will now be escorted back to the Ministry, where you will be formally charged, then sent to Azkaban to await trial!"
"Ah," said Dumbledore gently, "yes. Yes, I thought we might hit that little snag."
"Snag?" said Fudge, his voice still vibrating with joy. "I see no snag, Dumbledore!"
"Well," said Dumbledore apologetically, 'I'm afraid I do."
"Oh, really?'
"Well - it's just that you seem to be labouring under the delusion that I am going to - what is the phrase? - come quietly. I am afraid I am not going to come quietly at all, Cornelius. I have absolutely no intention of being sent to Azkaban. I could break out, of course - but what a waste of time, and frankly, I can think of a whole host of things I would rather be doing."
Umbridge's face was growing steadily redder; she looked as though she was being filled with boiling water. Fudge stared at Dumbledore with a very silly expression on his face, as though he had just been stunned by a sudden blow and could not quite believe it had happened.

Now! Isnt Dumbledore the shiz!......Sorry, lack for a better word......
D.A
Indeed he is! happy.gif

I loved it when i read that i was like yea you go Dumbledore.....also how stupid can fudge and Umbridge get??...thinking they can take dumbledore....*sighs* cool.gif

haha they didnt stand a chance!

DracosLady
My fave scene from OOtP has to be where Draco is in the bathroom crying his eyes out to Moaning Myrtje, it actually kinda shows that he has a soft side, I mean who has ever seen Draco show any emotion whatsoever, except for insulting others. It was a memorable scene because it does show another side of the snotty Malfoy, one that you don't often see at all, it is kinda refreshing. And it also kinda makes you feel bad for him with the task that he has been chosen to do. Alas, will Draco finally come over to the good side? I can only hope. biggrin.gif
hp1
i really liked the scene where fred and george escape from hogwarts right in front of umbridge...that was classic! i also really liked the scene where harry is helping dumbledore after they get out of the cave in HBP and harry tells dumbledore not to worry and dumbledore says "i am not worried harry, i am with you." i don't know why i really like that part but i do. i also liked the scenes where ron and hermione were flirting or whatever and where ginny and harry were together. i also loved all the scenes with fred and george, since they always made any scene hillarious.
Seriouslysirius
Mines probably in OOTP. When Sirius explains about the Order of the Phoniex.
It's really dark and starts to feel like it's becoming a war.
Oh and when Mcgonagall gives Umbrige a faceful when she is inxpected.
I can see that in the film.

#tigerlily#
i loved the scene in prisoner or askaban when hermy punshed malfoy straight in the face (look at my avatar wink.gif )...you wouldn´t expect something like that from her and i like rereading that scene.

another good one is in GoF when moody´s "teaching" malfoy and minerva is making him stop...really a good one! biggrin.gif
twiggysun
I loved the scene in HBP where Harry kisses Ginny and then looks at Ron.. one of my other favourites is the part where Molly and Sirius's mother are both screaming in OotP! there's so many great scenes in all of the books it's hard to remember all of them
rongotahowler
In the half blood prince when Haarry told Ginny it was over.
Honestly. I dont know were JK was going with that little story line but it wasnt needed at all. So when it came to an end, it was as though the book was screaming 'hallelujia'

So thats my favourite scene smile.gif.

Oh and also the scene where hermiones making birds fly around her head and ron and lavender come in and she makes the birds attack ron.
SlytherinHeadGirl05
Most of you already posted some of my favorite scenes. However, the scene with Harry breaking up with Ginny got me mad! After that whole wacko "relationship" with Cho, harry finds a girl he can ACTUALLY be with! it made me so infuriated! *huffs and sighs* anyways, favorite scenes..hmmm...

fred and george escaping of course! i'm preying with all my might, peeves IS in the final cut of the movie and the twins get to say their famous departing line! i hope i hope! hehe. (OotP) harry kissing ginny! woot! (HBP) hermione punching malfoy, not smacking punching! hehe. (PoA)

now that i think about it, i know Book 5: OotP is sad and very well dark kind of with all the attacks and what happens to Sirius and Harry's dreams and all but, does anyone notice that MOST of the funny stuff is in that book? i didn't say all just most, like JK was trying to have more comedy parts in that one due to the fact it's a bit dark? just thinking...sorry off topic...@.@ i'll hush now. shutup.gif
HarryGinnyJamesLily
Hey,

Haha, I read most of your favourite scenes. I don't think anyone has this one:

The scene is OotP when Dumbledore tells Harry 'everything' and how Harry gets angry, and throws things, etc, Sirius, etc. You know that scene? Probably my favourite.

HGJL
Padfoot and Prongs
well i think my most favourite scenes in the book would be in the ootp:
  • Mrs Figg talking to harry
  • The Order coming to collect Harry from the dursleys
  • Sirius house
  • extendable ears
  • Umbridge - as evil as she, scenes are good
  • Fred and Georges Escape
  • The D.A and how Harry is in charge
  • Thestrals - there so cool!
  • Grawp interesting scene
  • Department of Ministries
  • The Veil
  • When Harry and Dumbleodre talk in Dumbledores office and Harry trashes eveything
  • Harry talking to Nearly Headless Nick about Sirius
  • And of Course the Ending

as you can see by my list these are only some the scenes i love in ootp and i could list about 1000 for all 6 books so far but i think my most favourite scnen would ahev to be lupin retelling the story of the marauders map this is by far the best becaue it has soo much truth to it and just how well the scene was created!! as i said before i love many scenes anmd can't wait for the seventh book to come out!!
ChoChangizHot
My favorite Hp moment of all time was when Draco was conversing with Crabbe and Goyle about how Buckbeak was about to be exectuted so Hermione went up and pointed her wand at Dracos throat he was whimpering so badly it was funny andthen it seemed she was about to walk away when she turned around and punched him in the face.
TiffTay
My favorite scene is in Ootp when Ron finds out that he is a prefect and Mrs.Weasely says "Oh Ron thats everyone in the family." Fred and George" So wat does that make us next door neighbors." haha I love it but I know thats the exact scene but its something along those lines.
{~Maggy Diggory~}
[font=Arial][b] [size=3] Hey kinda new here, well my favorite part was probably the DA scenes it looks interesting. Even though the Romm Of Reqiurement wasn't like I imagined it it looked nice I'm a bit sad that Cedric isn;t gonna be there sad.gif (kinda a big fan if u can notice)
it looked nice though.
Spencer Potter
I love the scene in the DoM when they are all fighting and all the Order comes, well a fair few, Tonks, Moody, Padfoot, Mooney, and Shackelbolt, love it. Also love the scene where the Weasleys create the swamp then fly away on their broom.
SnakeCharmer74
My all time favorite scene is when Harry finds out that his father was an animagus and a co-writer of the Marauder's Map. The hope, and the feelings that surged in him at the moment only to have it interrupted by Hermione was priceless. For one fleeting moment he could treasure something about his father.

My other favorite moment is the same as Dracoslady; when Draco was crying in the bathroom. For me it was bittersweet. Like I said on the Slytherin thread, how lonely a person must be to only be able to share his most heartfelt emotions with a 50 year old ghost? What does that say about Draco? Everyone sees him as this rotten to the core, arrogant prat (and for good reason) but obviously there is more to him and I believe this is only the beginning.
Dementika
I, as all of you, have lots of favourite scenes but i always read the final of the book 3 POA, when Sirius sens to Harry that letter telling him about the fact that he sent the broom and explaining everything AND sens him that autorisation whom he is allowed to visit Hogsmeade! I mean, after all the bad things in harry`s life, finally comes someone that loves him and takes care of him (in the way that he can) like a parent. I don`t know why i am so sensitive about that scene but the first time i read it i have to admit that i cryed... anybody else who was touched by that scene? smile.gif
GreenGred
I really like the graveyard scene because it was very intense. I also love in the first book when the trio falls into the devils snare and hermione says that the snare likes dark damp places so harry tells her to lite a fire. She says but theres no wood. and ron says are you a witch or not!! classic
PurpleForge
My absolute favorite scene has got to be Snape's Worst Memory. I love Sirius and that scene showed him in his natural habitat before Azkaban and the Order. It shows the Marauders together and that just melts my heart.
Also, my second favorite scene is Luna's commentary when she talks about Loser's Lurgy and when Ron, after leaving the hospital wing, catches up with her and says that her commentary was hilarious. Then he says she has grown on him.
That was really sweet! wub.gif
Usagi
I agree with you purpleforge! Snape's worst memory was so good and shocking!!! It showed how similar harry and his father are (in respect to thier mannerisms) but also how different they are as well (harry wouldn't pick on someone just for fun). But also shows that James/Severus feud is similar to the Harry/Draco feud. Just kinda enlightening.
fragglecomegomibayas
There's two scenes that really pulled my heart strings more than slapping my face hehe...

The first is the one where the twins drop out of Hogwarts(in The Order Of The Phoenix) that scene made me want to scream: "Yes!" so, I burried my face in a pillow and did it!

The second one is in The Half Blood Prince when Harry is in the..barch with Dumbledore and the Inferi start to...climb up the barch, that scene made me close the book for about 20 seconds! I got really scared! That was the most afraid I've been when reading a book, which proves I haven't read many horror or suspense ones. Hehehe
HermioneClone
There are so many good scenes!
One of my favorites has to be when Dumbledore tells Harry about the prophecy. Harry is angry and throwing things and yelling. (OotP) It was so emotionally tense and pulled at my heartstrings.
And as a lot of people mentioned as well, I loved the scene where Fred and George escape from the school! It was brilliant.
I also really liked the "in the cave" scene in HBP. It was so dark and. . .what is the word? It was a weird feeling just seeing what was happening to Dumbledore as he was drinking the potion. . .the first extremely vulnerable impression of Dumbledore. It really highlighted the way the mood is changing in the book and things are getting more dangerous, and Harry can't always be depending on people for things.
After the Burial
I really like when Harry uses the felix felicis. The humor in that whole section is simply hilarious. I can envision fat Slughorn and enormous Hagrid pouring bottles of wine down their throats and singing drinking songs. It is too much to not laugh at.
Moon(I luv you Luna)
she's Ron's sister

But she ditched Dean!

She's still Ron's sister

I'm his best mate!

That'll make it worse.

If i talked to him first-

He'd hit you.

What if i don't care?

He's your best mate!

That was so funny and i felt so funny for poor harry, not knowing what to do ... by the time he kissed her i was going "Oh come on! Just kiss already!"

also:

"Weasley is our King,
Weasley is our King,
He didn't let the Quaffle in,
Weasley is our King ..."

"And i wish they'd stop singing that stupid song." said Hermione miserably "Haven't they gloated enough?"

A great tide to students were moving up the sloping lawns from the pitch.

"Oh let's get in before we have to meet the Slytherins," said Hermione.

Weasley can save anything,
Her never leaves a single ring,
That's why Gryffindor's all sing,
Weasley is our King."

"Hermione ..." said Harry slowly.

The song was growing louder, but it was issuing not from a crowd of green-and-sliver clad Slytherins, but from a mass of red and gold moving slowly towards the castle, bearing a solitary figure upon it's many shoulders.

Weasley is our King,
Weasley is our King,
He didn't let the Quaffle in,
Weasley is our King ..."

"No?" said Hermione in a hushed voice.

"YES!" said Harry loudly.

"HARRY! HERMIONE!" yelled Ron, waving the silver Quidditch cup in the air and looking quite beside himself "WE DID IT! WE WON!"

Yay for Ron! He so deserves it!

Those are pretty cool, also the whole "I'm not afraid harry-i'm with you" thing. That was so sweet!
SnakeCharmer74
Another favorite scene of mine is when Harry is talking to the minister at the funeral.

The minister is still trying to convince Harry to help the ministry and Harry says, "Dumbledore's man through and through? That's right." or something to that affect (I don't have my book with me). Just the pride, maturity, and strength he showed was telling to what we have to look forward in DH.
