I've seen many threads about who is someones favorite actor, but not about who is the most talented. (sorry if there is one, I searched and coul not find any) In my opinion, The actor that played 16 year old Tom Riddle in the Cos is the most talented actor they had so far. Also the actor for Lockhart in the second book, and Mcgonagall. Anyone agree with me? These three seem to portray their characters from the book magnificantly

I agree with the people that you chose as your favorites... maybe with the exception of Christian Coulson (young Tom Riddle), while he was good, I don't necessarily think he was one of the best. I do love Maggie Smith though (Prof. McGonagall), she's one of my favorite actresses of all time. And I believe Kenneth Branagh did a very good job portraying Prof. Lockhart. Another actor I think does a superb job is Alan Rickman. I think he makes the perfect Snape.... he does the character justice and he is exactly what I envisioned Snape to be while reading the books. More recently I believe Ralph Fiennes played Voldemort very well. I was expecting the actor who would eventually play him not to be able to live up to what I had pictured Voldemort to be in my mind, but I believe Ralph's depiction of him was spot on. Thats about it... oh can't forget Rupert Grint. He may not be one of the best actors... but he does a very good job portraying Ron if I do say so myself! Well theres my thoughts on it all Ciao for now!

Alan Rickman definitely portrays Snape as perfectly as possible: his looks, muttering voice, and "I'm going to catch you" style. He actually has the power to convince the audience into believing what he is saying...it is a shame he did not play a larger role in the GoF movie!
Maggie Smith as McGonagall, always great! I have to agree with merryrupert, she is one of my favorite actresses (or at least British actresses). She also portrays a near-perfect McGonagall, and she is very convincing when she puts that worried face on and makes her voice sound shaky
Robbie Coltrane is a marvelous Hagrid, too. He looks big like a giant, and knows how to act like a loveable oaf! He also stutters like Hagrid does sometimes, but he knows when to make Hagrid seem strong. I can't wait to see how he does in HBP when Snape attacks Harry towards the end.
And, possibly my all-time favorite Harry Potter actor, Richard Harris. He was a stupendous Dumbledore...as perfect as perfect gets! Dumbledore is a low talking, yet seemingly omnipresent character, and Harris nailed it down perfectly. His portrayal of DD will always be remembered dearly by us Harry Potter fans

. And, uggkkhh, don't get me started on his replacement Mr. Gambon

I really agree with you about how she portrays McGonagall.
I also like Alan Rickman as Snape because his voice, to me, fits my version of Snape and always have. I think it scares me in a way but then helps me with the whole Snape scandal!(good or evil)

When I read Richard Harris had died and, obviously, would not be in any more movies, I was upset because thw quality of his acting is better than any other actor in the world. I have never been more interested in someone's acting (except for Daniel Radcliffe).
Then of course, Daniel Radcliffe is a exceptionally talented actor and I'm sure he will rise with more amazing perforemances.

Hehe, what a question!
In the third place we have Robbie Coltrane for his role as Hagrid!
In second place ... we have Maggie Smith for her role as McGonagall!
And in first place, and far in the lead, we have Michael G... no wait, that can't be right, let me see that paper...
Ok sorry, in the last place we have Michael Gambon for his role as the unidentified bewildered old man in a frock.
In the real first place we have ... Sir Alan Rickman!
<He's not a Sir? I thought the Queen knew her...? Oh, sorry then>
Well, Mr Alan Rickman then, for his perfect portayal of Severus Snape, despite receiving no co-operation from the WB scriptwriter that caused ->

I must say, that HP movies always have VERY POWERFUL cast. Very.
Some actors are more talented, some of them - less. I only can name the outsider. It is the boy who acts Harry's disgusting fat brother.
"The most talented" are nearly all the adult actors.

It was only a matter of time til I poked my nose in here. So. . .I agree with most of your assessments of the actors and actresses. I do enjoy watching the younger actors, but I don't think that they're up to the caliber of the more experienced in these films. . .so I won't be choosing Dan, Emma or Rupert. Sorry!
Of these, at least for me, it's hard to pick: Rickman, Branagh, Smith, and Fiennes. I guess for the entirety, it's going to be Rickman. He's just soooo darned good! He seems to have such a handle on his character that he, like Snape, gives absolutely nothing away! Drives me batty.
Branagh. . .I'll confess him to be, in my opinion, one of the greatest actors of all time. He's definately on the top 50 list. (My #1, but I'm trying to give room for disagreement.) I think that his quality of acting shows in his perfect and believable portrayals as many, many different kinds of characters. Lockhart was an extremely good choice for him to play. He got to smile (I'd give him that award too), he got to use some comedy, some darkness, some aloofness, and some "bravery" (even if it was fake on Lockhart's part. . .he did have to act it!).
I'll leave off on the whole Gambon/Harris issue. I've enjoyed both of their acting abilities.

I like the way Emma Watson has the whole hermione thing. You cant read the book and not imagine emma watson playing the parts you are reading. Rupert Grint is also a good actor and has the ron thing down. Not to leave Dan out but i think he overreacts a bit. Like in POA and he is yelling and stuff at Aunt Marge. The books didnt mention him going insane. I thought he was about to pull a knife on her. But he is still a good actor.

It's so hard for me to decide who the best actor might be. The HP are such huge ensemble pieces, no one really gets a chance to stand out much, except perhaps Daniel Radcliffe. Many of the actors don't really get that much to do.
I do think Emma has improved--in GoF, you can catch Hermione's unease with all of these new situations that book-learning just can't fix. She's pretty scared a lot of the time, and it shows. Michael Gambon is a terrific actor, I just wish he'd read the books--it would help him understand why he's playing Dumbledore wrong. Of course that's just my opinion.
I loved Matthew Lewis in GoF--he really did get a chance to shine here, we really got to see the romantic, caring side of Neville. Great job there.
I can't decide.

Most talented actor? I'd say that the older, more seasoned actors are fantastic in their roles. Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, etc. But, the younger actors are getting better with each HP movie too. Dan Radcliffe has matured with each film not only physically (duh!) but as an actor as well.

I think Alan Rickman is really awsome in his portial of Snape. I guess I would call him the most talented actor in the whole series so far. As for the younger people I think that Emma Watson is particually talneted. Or maybe it's just because I think she loves being Hermione more than Rupert loves being Ron or Dan loves being Harry.

Alan Rickman for adults with out a doubt. He has portrayed Snape just as I imagined Snape in the books. As for younger actors; I think Emma is one of the most talented. Like Amyrat151 stated she loves playing Hermione, possibly more then Dan loves playing Harry, and Rupert loves playing Ron. This really helps her acting ability. I think in the fourth movie, she really showed us what she was made of. All the different emotions came out. From anger, to being frightened, to being upset, she has conquered them all. I love watching her grow as an actress, and I think she will go much farther in movies outside of Harry Poter.

In my opinion, Rupert is easily the best natural actor of the kids, and all of the adults are great. But then, they're all seasoned British/Irish character actors, so how could they not be.
Although Michael Gambon's Dumbledore...argh. Forgot, there's the one exception to the rule.

Daniel: I do think that he has got better over the years and i can't se anyone else playing him... *don't what to say*
Rupert: i love his character because i am alsways laughing at the things Ron says... i also think he has got better over the years....
Emma Watson: i think she shows Hermione character well and again, i can't se anyone else as her, and i generally love her character anyway
overall i think the actors have done really well for themselves...

Out of the kids erm, Evanna Lynch seems like she'll do a pretty good job as Luna. Emma did great as Hermione, I guess Dan and Rupert were good too.

Kenneth Branagh! Yes, he's wonderful!

Very, very talented guy, and it's a pity that we won't be seeing him in St. Mungo's in the coming movie. He would have been delicious in that scene! I watch CoS just for him. (Alan Rickman is default, of course.

)
I'm starting to be very impressed with Dan, from what I've seen in the little clips of footage from OotP. He's a very intelligent guy, and I appreciate that in an actor. I'm not much of a fan of Emma or Rupert. They're not Hermione and Ron like I imagine them at all.
And Sirius! Gary Oldman is obviously another wonderful actor. Ooh, I can't wait to see him in OotP!

Alan Rickman plays a perfect Snape, he is definatley the best actor for his character in harry potter.
I also really like Maggie Smith and Robbie Coltrane, they play their charaters well too.
Out of the trio, I think Dan is really coming into himself, especially over the last film, so perhaps he will be even better in OOTP. Rupert plays a good Ron, and Emma plays a good Hermione. I think it is hard to pick the best actor because they have all developed over the past 4 years. If I had to pick I would say Rupert though because he is the funniest and most likeable character, although that could just be Ron.
Ralph Fiennes also played a good Voldemort at the end of the GoF. He should be good in OOTP.

In PS....Alan Rickman and Richard Harris
In CoS....Alan Rickman and Kenneth Brannagh
In PoA...Alan Rickman and David Thewlis and.....Gary Oldman
In GoF....Alan Rickman and a flame faced Gary Oldman....but I did think Robert Pattinson was good. But the best was David Tennant.
What I have seen of OotP...Alan Rickman, and I think the younger cast members have improved greatly through all the films particularly Dan, but then this film has Gary Oldman and I know what your all thinking, but I do think he is the most talented actor!

Alan Rickman. Not just because I like his portrayal of Snape, but he just adds so much more that other male characters (even Rupert) don't bring. Hard to explain for me.
I hear Dan got 22nd of best young actors or something, and I guess he deserves it with all the work he's put in, but I just don't think he has the skill (which WILL come with time, he just isn't there yet) that Alan Rickman, Robbie Coltrane, David Thewlis, etc. have. Oh, I can name so many other male actors that do so well, but I'll keep it short.
Richard Harris was fabulous, Tom Felton is fairly good, Mark Williams, Kenneth Branagh, John Cleese, Gary Oldman (though not my favorite choice for Sirius, he is still an excellent actor and I love him in his other roles), and Richard Griffiths to name some off the top of my head.
All talented indeed, but I'll go with Alan, even though my "favorite" male actor is Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid. JUST how I imagined Hagrid

I have four favourite actors/actresses in the Harry Potter films and they are Rupert Grint, Tom Felton, Emma Watson and Maggie Smith.
Rupert Grint is an absolutely PERFECT Ron Weasley! He's a great actor and he looks the part. Also, he was a complete unknown which gives us fellow unknowns a feeling that WE have a chance!
Emma Watson is absolutely gorgeous and I love her to pieces. She's so sweet and pretty and all round a great actress. Another unknown. Wonderful.
Maggie Smith is one of the world's great actresses and she IS McGonagall! The way she looks, the way she walks and talks. It's so perfect and exact!
Tom Felton. Oh, don't even get me started on that gorgeous boy! I believe him to be the most handsome boy to walk this earth! He's a perfect Malfoy because in the films he's really sort of sneaky and sly but sort of a coward at the same time. I ADORE him!

Gary Oldman: I havn't seen any other films of him but hes a great actor. I really enjoy him as Sirius
Emma Watson: I think she is absolutley beautiful. She plays Hermione well as what someone else said she does the "mood swings" well
Daniel Radcliffe: I can see how hard and hoe far he has come. So much emotion is in his character I can't wait to see him in the next movie after Sirius dies. He will do very well I feel.
Tom Felton: hott.

He also has that sly, immature, rude part down on Malfoy. He really makes you hate Malfoy which is good. I can't wait to see him in the 6th movie

I thought about it long and hard but I just couldn't decide on actor or actress. Or even two or three. SO I devided them up per movie via adult actor and child actor:
- Movie 1 (SS)
- Adults
- Richard Harris (Dumbledore)
- Maggie Smith (McGonagall)
- Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid)
- Children
- If anyone, Tom Felton (Draco) I suppose, maybe Oliver Wood (can't remember the actor's name at the moment)
- Movie 2 (CoS)
- Adults
- The actor who plays Gilderoy Lockhart
- Maggie Smith (McGonagall)
- Richard Harris as (Dumbledore)
- Children
- Movie 3 (PoA)
- Adults
- Alan Rickman (Snape)
- David Thewlis (Lupin)
- Gary Oldman (Sirius)
- Children
- Movie 4 (GoF)
- Adults
- Alan Rickman (Snape)
- Maggie Smith (McGonagall)
- Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort)
- The actor who plays Arthur Weasley (sheesh, I can't remember any of these guys, my mind is in a fog)
- Children
- Dan Radcliffe (Harry)
- Emma Watson
- Robert Pattinson (Cedric)
- The actor who plays Krum was one of the best
Overall, I would say Maggie Smith, then Robbie Coltrane, and finally Richard Harris

Magical Man, I agree with almost everything you listed there. I would take Lockhart off the list. Personally, I thought he was horrible. It was the worst casting for any character in the series. Other than that, I don't have too many qualms.
The best acting, for all the movies, has been Maggie Smith. She is the only character that is a 100% living encarnation of what I envisioned.

Personally, I love David Thewlis. I hated him for Lupin at first, but he grew on me and now I love almost anything he does.
But in this context, a question like this is like asking how long a piece of string is. Usually I don't like old Ralph, but he's very good at Voldy. Michael Gambon is a very good actor, but he doesn't play DD as well as Harris did. Rickman is superb at Snape, but I think he plays variations of Snape in almost everything else he does (Rickman fans, please don't eat me).
Argh, I'll concede with saying all the adults are excellent at their parts (except the randoms like Fudge that pop in an out...I could do without him...) and the kids: Rupert is excellent at Ron, Dan is certainly improving and Emma is really annoying me with her overacting. I don't know what it is.

My first choice for most talented must be Alan Rickman... Not only he's a great actor, but you actually grow to love and hate him as Snape. Then I remembered the other great ones like Maggie Smith, who is just like I pictured McGonagall: she's got feelings and still she's pretty stern. I both love their other work outside of Harry Potter.
Then Love Actually jumps into my mind and I remember Emma Thompson and her wonderful portrayal of Trelawney, including the extra footage from OotP! She's amazing!
Gary Oldman seemed as naughty as I imagined Sirius, just the looks don't really fit my mental picture of him. Otherwise, he very much represents the character.
Michael Gambon and David Thewlis do a great job as well.
So I guess, to summarize it a little bit, all the teachers are amazing actors! They are all extremely talented!

I think most of the actors are great as their characters: Alan Rickman is just great; in every film he is in, it doesn't matter what kind of person he plays, he really fits into that character and he is brilliant!
I think Ralph Fiennes is great at Voldemort too - the only thing I wasn't happy with is the pitch of the voice; I always imagined Voldemort's voice to be a lot higher and sinister than it is, but overall he is a great actor.
David and Gary are both great at Remus and Sirius, and they're exactly as I imagined them! They both look and act like their respective characters so it makes the film look more like the books.
Now for the trio ... I think Rupert is a fantastic actor, he really does act as awkard as Ron does in the books and he looks so like I imagined him to. Dan as Harry - he's also a great actor, but not as good as Rupert - still great though! But Emma - I don't know, she just really annoys me. She often acts really over the top, not just on stage, but in interviews as well. She's still a good actress, but if she wants to be as good as the other two I think she needs to work on not overreacting like she does. The films are great but I just think some scenes can be ruined by this.

Completely agree with all teh Maggie Smith fans- a brilliant actress, just hugely talented in my opinion. I think McGonnagal is such a hard part to play! Stern + strict but with a soft spot for her Gryffindors and particularly the trio!
Also, Alan as Severus- his two golden words in OOP "Yes" and "Obviously" in the Umbridge section is brilliant and my drama teacher agrees those are the best two words spoken in the whole film.
Other than those two... Rupert Grint as Ron and JULIE WALTERS as Mrs. Weasley!!!

Alan Rickman. Seriously, he is the perfect choice for a cynical, sarcastic professor, and he does the emotionless, blank, Snape-looks perfectly. Also, I agree with Tom Felton being an excellent Draco. He makes a good cowardly nancy-boy. I love it. I liked Richard Harris. No offense to Micheal Gambon, but Richard Harris was totally Dumbledore. Brendan Gleeson is perfect as Moody as well. And Jason Isaacs. Thats exactly how i imagined Lucius. And Evanna Lynch. She totally is Luna. And of course Rupert Grint. He has every Ron look and totally can pull his character off (i wonder if he can turn his ears red)...

If i had to narrow it down to the one most talented actor in the HP series. Then i to would probably have to say Alan Rickman. He is perfect for Snape. He casts that errieness around him when ever he is about in the films. Which he also did in the books to me. So i think he fits it perfectly. Espically the slow quiet but dark voice he does for Severus Snape. He was cast brillantly for Snape.
