Does anyone here enjoy Lord of the Rings too? Or do you think it's dumb? Me, I love it. I only got into it about a year ago though.

UGH I hate it, its not stupid or anything, i just hate it!! NOTE:: I wasnt born like this but driven to it by my friends (I got LOTR related injuries!!) who are waaayyy to into it, that and D&D (Dungeons and Dragons, another thing I dont do)
Padfoot4Ever
Oh yeah. The dungeon and dragon thing seems sorta stupid.
doomed_renascence
hmmm i dont get why every one raves about it. i never read the books because it seems too long and too boring. i might see the movies, if my friends happen to have it, and probably just to see orlando bloom wink.gif

I tried to read The Hobbit, but it was way too hard. My friend had talked about Tolkien mentioning every minute detail, so maybe that's why. I've only the watched the first one and I really liked it. The storyline is interesting, along with the variety of characters.

I love LOTR also. I have a paperback copy of all three books, and I've read it like five times. I also have all of the movies. LOTR AND HARRY POTTER ROCKS!
LOTRfreak13

taks
Yes Tolkien rambles on and on and on and...yeah, ya get the picture, i tried toread the books, but i fell asleep, I tried to watch movies, but i fell alseep (even Orlando couldnt keep me awake!) LOTR freak, is your "real" name Andrea?? or Andy??
Spanner
JRR Tolkien was a genius. I loved the books (including The Hobbit) and Peter Jackson's films are magnificent.
LOTRfreak13
umm yes i agree with you!!!its the best thing that happend!!methinks.!!..ummm...no my name is not andrea or andy... there are other LOTRfreak sn but they are just spelled different..so yeah i love it so much!!!!//does anyoen have avatar that just has daniel on it and not haryy on it?
Padfoot4Ever
I'm a freak about LotR too. I had thought it was dumb at first but then we watched last year in English and I fell in love. The books are hard to read but Tolkein is a genius. There is a plus to the movies--Dominic Monaghan. yummy!
astronomylover
I agree. Dominic Monaghan is SO HOT!
Padfoot4Ever
Yea he is. I made a poster for him because I can't find any with just him. Its hard just to find one with him on it at all. I get sick of all the Orlando Bloom. Not thats he isn't cute but it gets sickening. I ahve some posters of him but that was before I realized how hot Dom was. Now he is going to on ABC every wed night yay. Are you going to watch LOST?

Anyways, yup LotR is awesome.

I don't think I'd go that far though. I think the LotR movies are better then the Harry Potter ones. Well at leaast the first two. But I have to say the Harry Potter books are better.
poison_girl
I must say I do have a tiny bit of an obsession with it wink.gif
I think its awsome...gotta be one of my favorite films ever.

the cast rock...is it jsut me that thinks it unfair how Orlando Bloom completally sky-rocketed from it and others (e.G Dom lol) didn't get as much fame, even though i think hes a better actor...he had more in the film aswell.
ADV
In my opinion... I don't like it....... biggrin.gif
aleja23
I like the seires and the movies!, but I think that somethings in the movies are kinf of confusing, I did not understeand somethings! anyway the movies were great, actually I find them a little related to Hp, I don“t know why. smile.gif
just me
I LOOOOVE LOTR!!! I have only seen the movies, but they are amazing! I love them! I tried to read the book, but it was so hard written that I couldn't remember what I had read after just one page! So I think I'm gonna stick to the movies.

But even if I love LOTR, I'd have to say that I like Harry Potter a little bit more right now! Maybe it's because I've read the books and find them so magnificent! I love the movies too!

So I like both and think they're both something very unique! I don't think I could live without them! Honestly! rolleyes.gif

Tolkien built an amazing world, and established an entire new genre of modern literature. This is why he created such a stir with this series.

That being said -- I believe the books are not very well written. His prose is ponderous, and some events don't make sense (Tom Bombadil -- that's why he is not in the movies.)

The movies are very good, especially the dark riders and the battle scenes. Liv Tyler helping Frodo evade the dark riders in the first film is one of my all time favorite movie scenes. I never appreciated Liv tyler as an actress until that scene -- she is intense.

Ok...now i know u all are going to like hate me....but i prefer harry potter over LOTR...dont get me wrong,..i think LOTR is brilliant...but i just love hp way more..as well as POTC...then would come LOTR on my fav list...please dont be all mad....
Padfoot4Ever
No I don't hate you. I probably love HP more too. I'm not really sure though. I have known HP longer and I've read all the books. But LotR is great too. Forget what I said earlier. I'm a bit confused. Right now I'm thinking I like HP better.

I used to favor Orlando. I thought he was so Hot and such a great actor. I'm not like that anymore. Don't get me worng. I still like him and think he's cute but I prefer Dominic Monaghan. I think Orlando has enough fangirls without me to worry about. I get sick of all the attention he gets all the time. I mean I like hearing things every now and then about him but sometimes there is to much of a good thing. Too much of him made me like him less. I still like him but I'm not obsessed with him anymore.
halfbloodprincess15
LOL! yeah, they are both such wonderfully written stories and wonderfully constructed movies....sometimes i feel that i like harry potter more and others i feel like i prefer LOTR! But they both are awesome...and right now i am feeling more like HP is my fav! But they both are still brilliant!
LuciusMalfoy
I liked the movies alright. They weren't anywhere near as interesting as Harry Potter. I don't want to read the books though, I'm not that into it. Now the best thing about LOTR is Legolas! Oh Orlando Bloom is so hott. lol.
halfbloodprincess15
I see you loved interview with a vampire...I loved that to! It was awesome! I love brad pitt and tom cruise and kirsten dunst and oh gosh, i am getting off the subject again.
I think that LOTR are great movies and books, but no where near as wonderful as HP! HP will always be at the top of my list, always!
Silmira
I LOVE LotR! I don't know why, but I just do. I like action/adventure movies, but mostly when they also have fantasy involved. It's a great book series, too. Although, the first part of the first book is a bit dry, but the rest is great.
Naz
i absolutely loved the movies, so i tried to read the books. i think that it is harder to get into (i am trying though!! biggrin.gif )
RG's Babe
i watch lotr all the time i have all 6 of them (extended versions) and i have all the books.
Padfoot4Ever
I have FotR (normal), FotR EE, TTT (normal), TTT EE, and RotK (normal). When RotK EE comes out on December 14th I'm getting it. Yay. It's coming. I can't wait.
Dracoluver
I LOVE the LOTR movies! I prefer the HP books though. But the HP movies aren't as good as LOTR in my opinion. I'm trying to read the LOTR books, but they're so difficult for me!
I'm going to get the EE of ROTK for christmas, can't wait!

Orlando is hot in it, but he isn't the best actor. The others were better, in my opinion.
Padfoot4Ever
Yea Orlando is good, but it's hard to judge his acting in the LotR movies. He doesn't say much. lol He's still pretty awesome. I love everyone involved. They made such wonderful movies. biggrin.gif tongue.gif
Dracoluver
I love the scene in The two towers where the Elves march to Helm's Deep! The music's really powerful!
One of my fave scenes is also when Legolas slides down the stairs on this shield. tongue.gif
It's astinishing that it took 9 years to finish the film! But it was worth it, really!
I also love Gollum! Andy Serkis does a great job for his voice!
Frodo started to freak me out at the end of The Two Towers! It was creepy how the ring started to possess him!
Padfoot4Ever
I loved that part too where Legolas slides down the stairs. I love the music in the movies. I have the CDs. Howard Shore did an amazing job with the score.
hknight16
I personally love Lord of the Rings.. I read the books this summer and they were brilliant, and the movies are also.. but Harry Potter is more my thing biggrin.gif
Amyrat151
The third movie was so long, I liked it but it could do being shorter.
Padfoot4Ever
It was really long but I think they are good like that. If they weren't they would of had to cut out a lot of things. Then people could get even more confused. Thats why I like buying the Extended Editiond so I can see all the stuff they cut and get more info.
Dracoluver
Yup! I love the Extended versions! And the 3rd movie couldn't have been long enough for me! tongue.gif I love LOTR, and I was SOOO sad when it was finished. My friend and I nearly cried! Goodness, I'll be completely devastated when the Harry Potter series are over! sad.gif
~GoddessofDarkness~
When the series is over what'll happen to this website? It's really sad sad.gif I did cry when the LoTR was over. My friends thought I was a retard.
Padfoot4Ever
Yea, it's really sad. When the DVD came out I was excited but sad because it was over. We have the Extended Edition left but thats it. I can't believe it's over.
*~emma~*
I love it! I love the Return Of The King. It is the best! cool.gif
..Lyn..
I love LOTR too! I've read the book (quite thick) and seen all the movies, which I adore. The music is fantastic and just the whole concept of it all - I love how Tolkien created a whole world, (much like HP & SW).
Naz
i really liked the music too!! and my fave book and movie was the return of the king
Jacqueline
I have all three LoTR movies. I had ot nag my dad to get the third one hehe. I had a very big obsession with Elijah Wood lol. Anyway, I think the movies are really good. I started reading the books last week and I agree it does go on loads but it's a good book. I can read all of OoTP in the time it's taken me to read 100 pages of LoTR blink.gif

Anyway, yeah, LoTR is cool...
liberty

When I finished reading LOTR, I felt a deep sorrow within me, as I knew I would never again read such a magnificient work.

For those of you who enjoyed reading LOTR, you might want to check out the Dragonlance series. I recommend reading Dragonlance Chronicles first.

The third movie was so long, I liked it but it could do being shorter.

Ahh, but think of it from the fans' perspective! Remember how most of the HP fans were up-in-arms about either making the Goblet of Fire film really long or else splitting it in two so that not so much would get cut out of it? But now that it's going to be however long it's going to be (can't remember exactly), people are disappointed. All that Peter Jackson was doing by making it so long was keeping with the books (which are just about as long as GoF) and pleasing the die-hard fans, such as myself.

I must say that I loved the films. Usually, I would say that the crew could have done more with the piece, added stuff and tweaked it and so forth, but I think that Peter Jackson did such a great job and put in so much effort that it's really hard to find a negative thing about the films.

The books, of course, are classics, not just as great works of fiction, but also as the main inspiration for all medieval fantasy books that you see nowadays. Tolkein is really the one responsible for creating the medieval fantasy genre in my opinion, which is a great achievement! Of course, the world of Middle Earth is amazing, too. It's one of the few times in literature that I felt like if I were inside of the Penseive following along with the group and I decided to take a different path than they did, I would still encounter the same richness and depth to the universe throughout the entirety of Middle Earth. That's quite hard to do, but Tolkein did it.
TomIsHott
i would have to agree with every one who likes it as much as i do. i can't wait till i get the extended version.
MrLupin
the movies were excellent but i never been able to read the book much as i found it too long
