I read somewhere recently that there are rumors that some of the OotP filming will be next to the Thames. The director says it's because he's going to do a large wizard chase around the streets of London. I know London is a beautiful city and all, but I'm sorry...the wizard chase is a terrible idea. In my opinion of course.
The only time there are they are supposed to be in London is when they go to the MoM. There's no freakin chase.
I searched if there was a topic like this and there isn't. There's only a topic discussing adaptations, but this is a specific adaptation, so I decided to start my own topic. If you have to shut me down, fine. I just wanted to tell everyone how stupid this idea is, and how it will take away form the movie.

Hi, I don't think this topic will be closed till the matter is cleared up entirely, no worries.
However, I'd like to have a link or some reference point to the information priori, lest we jump the gun and conclude the filmmakers have ravaged half the plotline.

Can you state what the source of the rumor was?

On mugglenet.com, there was anarticle about rumors of filming locations and it had a little director commentary. That's where I heard it.

Yes, I heard that rumour too, but it was quite a while ago now, and I'm pretty sure we did discuss it somewhere...mmm...
It was probably in one of the more general threads though, so no worries...
My faith in the movies is completely destroyed anyway, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if they were going to make a chase scene, purely because it looks good in the trailers. But I agree, it sucks. I'd rather have more *actual* story than cinematography, but then I don't suppose that will pull in as many people, and money talks, so...*shrugs*
Stupid idea, yes. Definitely.

(If I start coming off strongly, don't take it personally. I just feel strongly about this topic).
I'm thinkin that the movie is gonna be borderline between PG-13 and possibly R. Cause think about it. If the fourth movie was rated PG-13 for that wimpy violence, someone's hand getting cut off (which we saw for about 15 seconds, and a scary Ralph Fiennes with a snake face, then what do you think WB creators are going to make of the viel, the snake in the corridors, occulmency, the horrid dreams, the department of mistery, the hand cutting, and all the Potter-yelling madness??? I personally think that it will be close to an R-rating cause of what movies make them like. People like dramatic stuff, and the creators and director will get it as dramatic as possible, which means heavy violence and crude stuff in there. I don't know, but I'm thinking actually very borderline between the two ratings. Tell me what yah think of my opinion, but please don't be too harsh!!!Love to all the HP fans!!!

I agree with Louise, i have no longer any decent expectations for the fifth film. Lets think about it, the director has done a bunch of fitness videos and a couple of TV programs!!!

What where Warner Bros thinking??? Anyhow to cut to the chase

it's very difficult to say that is what he meant, because i strongly doubt that Jo would allow something like that in the movie, and i doubt the producers would want it either. It could perhaps be the Thestral decent into London they are talking about, or the flight of Bellatrix from the ministry. It could be Mr Weasley and Harry's dash to the courtrooms, but i strongly doubt there will be an actual chase...wait it could be the backfiring toilet and we have Mr Weasley chasing Mundungus or whoever did it!

That wouldn't be to bad....

I was trying to think of scenes where there is flying that may be described as a chase scene, and honestly had difficulty the only things I have come up with are:
when the DA are flying to the MOM on thestrals, like Nickilton suggests (good idea

)
or at the very start when Lupin/Tonks etc take Harry to Grimauld Place - where they are being very vigilant etc (although
sort-of invisible)
or perhaps they may have inserted when Snape informed the order that Harry has gone to look for Sirius at MOM, and shows the order flying there
however, none of these particularily lie under the term 'chase' as I imagine it is being used
I don't know, I really don't like the idea of a randomly inserted extra scene (although major modifications aren't too good either - but more preferable IMHO), but I have just had a rather long moan about that at the 'If Yates messes it up!" thread:
http://www.veritaserum.com/forums/index.ph...view=getnewpost (sorry I'm hopeless at 'cuts')

My only question is this how it's always going to be with the movies? If they do have a wizard chase scene thats not in the book then that will be really strange. Will they always be making possible unnessicary aditions to the movies? My only other question is that i f they do have a chase scene what the purpose of the said scene will be...........

I heard that the wizard chase will be the Advance Guard. I don't know wether this is true, but they will be having broomstiks with the advane guard skimming the thames.

If there is a
point to this chase, fine. If not, then I am sick of these senseless changes.
I bought GoF, like everyone else. But I think I've only watched it about two times! Considering I watch movies when I sew, and watch a minimum of two movies a day, I choose something besides GoF very very often!
Every film they do gets worse and worse--strays further and further from the real books. I really hated the beginning scene in GoF when Barty Crouch Jr. was with Voldemort! That was just wrong. And yet, I heard they ran it by JK Rowling, and she said OK, and the director or producer sort of alluded to the fact that it wouldn't have mattered if she'd said 'no' as they were going to do it anyway.
I wonder if Jo has signed away a good portion of her control over the film franchise? She was
very particular that it remain true to the story when it all began, but GoF could almost be a completely different story, so much was changed. I expect little better with OotP.
If they have a senseless London chase, what part of the
real story will they cut?

If they could take the Dragon to the Hogwarts castle they can surely take the chase of Bellatrix to Thames... Just to add a little more action.

if only the directors, producers, and writers were reading what we are saying. a chase scene? i can't figure out where they would fit something like that in the movie! i completely agree though, the movies get worse and worse. GoF was by far the worst movie (besides da vinci code) that i have ever seen. if this scene was with bellatrix, then fine, but just don't make it too dramatic, i don't feel like walking out of a movie so very disappointed and 16 dollars short.

I think in this situation we shouldn't jump to conclusions real fast because saying there will be a wizard chase scene is rather vague. They might make one just for trailers and never actually put it in the movie (which is done in a lot of movies) so they can attract people to see it.

i think it's a totally stupid idea!! i mean like how would it fit in? how will do the chanceing ! save the chaceing for the miniserty!! i knew i didn't like like the sounds of this new director their's been to many of them and they all have different styles but at least they kept the same story line eh??

I think that if the chase scene has nothing to do with the story line or the last few scenes then i think its a stupid idea. other wise if its when harry is chasing bellatrix near the ministry of magic then i think they should do it. otherwise i dont know when they could put a chase in it.

I agree. they cut out so many parts, probably for this chase so if they have it then it should relate to the book... like harry chasing bellatrix, if not its gonna be another horrible movie like GOF cutting out important parts for humorous parts they make up

*Sigh* they've done it again! A chase scene?! What were they thinking?! That was nothing to do with the book! I can't think of a time when there was a chase scene in OotP!

Gosh! I agree with smartman299!

I think if there is a chase round London, its with the Advance Guard.
And the word "chase" could actually mean that the Advance Guard are just trying to get away from "spys".
I reckon if the "chase" is included it wont be for long and it'll be there to capture audiences attention very early in the movie.
Remember, some people only follow the movies, so they will want something action-packed at the beginning of the film.
Also, everyone should really see the movies as "based on the books". They follow the same plot-line, but obviously dont have the thorough description.
I think the "chase" will be a short breath of fresh air to the some-what dark plot of the film and I'm looking forward to it

On the trailer description, it was confirmed that the River Thames scene waas the Advance Guard on the way to Grimmauld Place. The description of the scene below:
Harry, Lupin, Tonks, Mad-Eye and Kingsley are flying along the Thames heading closer and closer to a boat. Suddenly they pull away from the boat, dodging a whole load of other boats and flying off in different directions. They then regroup and arrive at Grimmauld Place in the Pitch-Black.
Sounds breathtaking

Yeah i also think that the chase is just the advance gaurd scene. I think it was just easier for him to say it was a chase scene cause sum people might fink of it as a chase scene.
Maybe they hav changed it a bit and there are actually death eaters chasing them.

What?
A chase scene? I don't think it's very likely that we'll end up with a chase scene (besides Harry chasing Bellatrix in the MoM). Now that I think about it though...There is a scene on the ootp trailer that shows Harry riding his broom in a city setting. Possibly this is what they are talking about. If you are curious to see that scene I am talking about, watch the very end of the trailer right before the release date shows up.
I hope they don't mess up this movie, they already hacked GoF to death.

Guise

you totally stole my idea

But anyway...when i heard there woz gonna be a wizard chase i automatically thought it was a great idea and that it would make the advanced guard scene so much more interesting to watch continuously over and over again. I mean, when i read the book, as soon as i get to the advanced guard stuff i just cant wait until they finally get to Grimmuald place, and thats saying something, although i definitley enjoy the bit before with Tonks.
Also, i found this plan/picture of what Mad eye Moody's broom looks like and its really amusing and not to mention funny
You've got to check it out!!

bad choice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean they already takeout so much of the book, no one wants them to add in parts which could be filled with parts that were actually in the book
