Full Version: Multiple/inactive Accounts
Veritaserum Forums > Site stuff > Rules

Every now and again, the admin like to go through the membership list and delete inactive accounts. The reason for it is to keep our active members/inactive members ratio as high as possible, to encourage people to post and to clear up unnecessary clutter from the forums.

This is something that hasn't been done particularly often before now, but from now on, it will be something that is done at least once a month.

Therefore, if you wish to keep your accounts, I would encourage you to post regularly. If accounts are left inactive for a period of a year, the memberships will be deleted and you will have to re-register to continue to post. Bear in mind that this will mean that your posting count will be reduced to zero.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to remind people that you are not supposed to have more than one account. If you want to change your username, contact a member of the administration team. DO NOT create a new account. If you are found out, we are liable to ask why you created a second account. We get very suspicious when people do that because it makes us wonder if you have done it to avoid some form of restriction that was placed on a previous account. We will find out sooner or later so unless there is a very valid reason, please don't create duplicate accounts. If found, they will be deleted.

If there are any questions, feel free to contact me privately or reply here.

hiya, i have a question. One of the members registered to these forums when they came round my house so they probably have the same IP as mine. Thanks, V.H

I actually have another account, however i have forgotten the password. I made it when i fogot this ones password...i never used it. The username is Harry James Potter, i thought i'd lost this password forever, but then i did password recovery on another site and i had the same password! That's what comes from having different passwords....

Just thought i'd mention it...i'm not sure which IP adress i signed up on thought, because i use a computer at home and one at school,

Don't worry about it, guys. If they're inactive, they'll be picked up sooner or later and will be deleted. Just as long as you're not using alternate accounts to keep two identities going because we won't be amused if we notice - and we do notice these things wink.gif

On the other hand, dementor - I really do not like several people using the same computer. I understand that if you're siblings or whatever, then it's hard, but I would like to point out one very important thing.

As the recent unpleasantness highlighted, if someone of your acquaintance uses your PC and does something that is a bannable offence, the admin have NO way of distinguishing between you. What this means in real terms is that you will lose your account along with the idiot who abused this forum.

I will NOT accept ANY excuses for such behaviour. The other staff and I care very much about these forums and will do everything in our power to protect them - if that means that "innocents" lose their accounts along with the wrong doer, then that is a consequence we are willing to accept. You all have a responsibility to protect your own accounts.

So, the warning here is simple - if someone else is using your PC, be VERY careful and make VERY sure that you trust them. Once abused, that's it. There is no second chance.

Anywho, this isn't particularly a topic that requires responses - it's simply here for information purposes so I'll lock it now.
