Full Version: Should Age Be An Issue?

I thought that they should have gotten a younger actor to play Viktor Krum...not that Stanislav Ianevski isn't deliciously cute, which he is, but I thought he looked too old for Emma...logically the wizarding education ends at age 17, the actor is 21......I just thought he looked a bit too old to playing the part of Viktor and I didn't think it looked right to have a 16 year-old girl, who looks around 13, act out a part of liking a guy who looks around 28 years-old. No offense to either actors because they did a great job in acting, but there was something just not right...because the camera can either make you look older or younger than you really are and never your real age...and usually it makes men look a lot older then they really are...what did you think?

Yours truly,
Zelda R. Snape

No way!! I think the age thing is OK i guess, but Dan, Rupert, and Emma are growing up and are starting to outgrow thier characters ... huh.gif

no, for me age doesn't matter. yes dan and the trio are growing up and just a few years older but they still look the part. besides there are plenty of ways to subtract a few years from them. they have to finish the series cause' they have already done 5 movies so they should finish the rest. it would be way too devastating on fans if they changed characters.

never! please! i couldn't stand it if anyone would be replaced!
age isn't that important. in a lot of movies actors are younger or older than in the film. and they can make you look younger, so i don't think it should be a problem! ohmy.gif
what should be important is that they act good, and that's the case, so i don't see any reason why they should change any actors!

Actually, i've never thought of the age issue. And i didn't notice it while watching the movie. I believe that Cram was perfect for this role- the pronanciation, the looks... I wouldn't want any of the actors to be replaced cause this would be awful. Dumbledore changed and it felt really different watching the new actor...

Honestly, the only that has truly shown growth is Ron, Hes grown in height, Hair lol.. Sounds the same but looks different, Harrys hair is only different because of the different directors of course, Hermione looks the same but shes grown up. Shes hot like shes always has been, so I really dont think age is an issue here.

No, it would be stupid if they changed the cast, I mean you can see the chemistry grow between the 3 through each movie, and if they brought in neww characters I think it would be a disaster. I mean it's like Dan is the real Harry Potter and it's hard to imagine somebody else playing Harry, Ron, or Hermione. Dan, Rupert, and Emma started the series let them finish it.

I really hate it when there is a sequal to a movie and theychange the characters. It would most definately be a disaster if they they changed the actors. Yeah Viktor Krum did look a little too old for Hermione , but they went well wiht each other. The actors that are in the movies now have built up chemistry with one another and hav ebecome great friends and it would be the wrong thing to do to break that up. If there are gonna be any actor changes, it should be lavander brown becasue when i read the book, i imagined her as a popular girl with brown hair and tanned skin, nothing against the original Lvander brown but i Just dont see her with Ron at all.

And the whole age thing, they havn't really grown that much. Yeah it is a little wierd watching them in the first two movies but as they grow , so do i, its part of life, they fit their part in those movies and they'll fit their part in the upcoming movies. Ther is no need to change the cast when everybody id in love wiht the original cast. Let them finish what they started.

I think the only change is Harry doesnt sound like a girl anymore, Hermione has grown into a woman, and Ron is taller like he should be.

For me, age doesn't matter. Many people look older than they actually are. Someone asked what college I was going to when I was going into eigth grade tongue.gif . I might be the only one, but not many people look their age, older or younger.
Ginerva Weasley
I don't think age matters to much as long as the act the part well and they give you what they want to see.but when i go out or to school people always say what classes are you taking in high school and I am only going into grade five

Oh, gosh! I don't know what I would do if they changed any of the trio. I think with them age is not an issue, I would much rather have them look a little old for their part than have different people entirely.
But, that's my concern for the movies. . .it takes a long time to make a movie, and they have to make 7 of them eventually. . .and the days are passing and Dan, Emma, and Rupert are still maturing.
They have changed considerably since the start. For example on the special features of the PoA DVD I watch the trailer of SS and then PoA. . .the difference is huge. Then they matured inbetween PoA and GoF as well.

Krum should look older. That is part of his appeal. He is a great Seeker, but you do not think of him as a young man. If a baby face 17 year old looked at you, you would not believe that he was a great athlete. Krum needed to look a little older for the character to make sense.

I wasn't that bovered about the age of everyone..

I thought they all look just about right for there ages..

Krum and Fleur i think where the right ages because Krum stays at school longer so he will be older.
Sofia_Snape
No actor should be replaced except in exceptional circumstances like Dumbledore. It would just degrade the whole thing. 2 or 3 years older which is the issue here, is fine.... actors and actresses have coped with this in the past, what is so different now?
Pygmy_puff
I don't think age is an issue either. If the actor is perfect for the role, why not use that actor? Even if he looks a bit too old, make up can work wonders!
JSB 073
in some movies, i do wonder of age issues, and now that the subject was brought up, i'm thinking that it sorta is affecting the harry potter movies. or not. right now i'm confused on whether they look the age they play or not. viktor mostly did not look the right age. so i think it's a bit weird.
Abraxas
Well, on your first point, Stan looking too old, well ... Viktor Krum is meant to be at least 17. I personally think he looked just the right age. He didn't look right in the part in my opinion but that was nothing to do with age. As for Dan, Emma, Tom, Rupert, are you suggesting that the actors should be replaced!? If you are, no offense but you must be crazy! There would be a massive outcry if they changed one of the main characters at this stage in the game! Maybe I'm just blinded by adoration, but I think that in PS they looked 11, in COS they looked 12, in POA they looked 13, etc etc etc ... etc. All of us love the actors way too much to care if they look a little too old for their parts which they don't anyway, so what's the problem? Sorry I really shredded your post into little pieces there. Just expressing myself.

Age should not matter. J.K. did have the characters growing up so it is not fair that we should expect the actors to look younger. The trio in the book goes through adolescense just as the actors have and even though the actors are a little older than the characters there are plenty of ways to make someone look younger.

No I don't think that age should be an issue. I mean, obviously if you had like a thirty year old trying to play Harry... then that would be different. But in reality it doesn't really matter. Dan is now 18 and he will soon start filming HBP, in which he will be playing a 16 year old. So it's only two years of a difference. In PS he looked 11, as Abraxas said, and so forth.

I don't think that the actor playing Viktor Krum looked too old. I thought he looked just right. Well the actress playing Fleur is in her twenties I think and she was playing a teenager and she didn't look too old in my opinion, which I think shows that age isn't always such an issue.

They definately shouldn't replace the actors. Not only would there be an outcry, people would be constantly comparing them to the previous ones and if would be pressure on the newbies to live up to them. If they didn't then they would be critisised (sp?) for it so it would be unfair on them.

The age is in the middle for me because you might not know how to act when you're little but on the other hand, you can learn how to act although they might not pick you!!! shutup.gif laugh.gif biggrin.gif tongue.gif smile.gif
What do you think???
