I really like Dan Brown's books such as DaVinci Code. Deception Point is my favorite book of his. A Series of Unfortunate Events is pretty good too. I didn't really like Artemis Fowl though.
kassie

books that I have yet to read.At school I'm known as a nerd because instead of talking in our free time,I read.I'm always carrying a library book or one of my own.I have a bookshelf at home and it is full.I need another one.
phoenix_song
I'm an awesome bookworm. I dont really have a specific genre of books I like to read. I'll read anything: fiction, non-fiction, auto bios/bios, fantasy, adventure. You name it, I've probably read it. I really like the way J.K. Rowling writes and would like it if she continued writing even after she releases the final Harry Potter book. I also really like Dean Koontz. I read By The Light Of The Moon by him and was just completely blown away. It was an amazing book. V.C. Andrews is also one of my favorites. She was a very interesting writer; a lot of different ideas came out of her, and I pretty much adore her for that. And finally Philup Pullman's Dark Materials Trilogy blew my mind. Seriously. If you havent read it, I'm as of right now, recommending it. Seriously.

I havent read anything super interesting as of late. I'm starting Harry Potter again before the final book comes out, just so I've got everything in order. Oh! and my favorite book in the Harry Potter series is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

kassie
My fave HP book is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
I'm counting days for the movie to come out.Only 355 days left.I think we should start a countdown.
missmugglebethany
hey kassie i dont want to change the subject because theres a thread for this but how do you get 355 days. My movie counter says there are 347 days left(remember im in the USA) and there hasnt been an official date released many people think the book will come out 07/07/07 which it would put us at about 340 just asking because im interested too. so humm so i love to read, i just finished the divinici code and i'm now reading a book that talks about the real history of the names and characters from the book. I also recently have done the Eragon books love them! I really enjoy christian authors and my 2 favorites are Janette oke and lori wick. Wick does some awesome Olde English stuff from the victorian period. I love that type of history.
Growing up my absolute favorites were and will always be anne of green gables and my ultimate favorite author is Laura Engalls Wilder.she turned me on to reading. thats why i love her so much.
I also do a lot of reading of the books that go with harry. My favorite is mapping the world of harry potter. its a collection of essays from writers all over the world that attack the issues sorrounding the Potter books. it is fasicinating.

Cassandra Trelawney
Books I'd recommend:

Blue Bloods by: Melissa de la Cruz
The Lovely Bones by: Alice Sebold (for the elder crowd, though)
The DaVinci Code & Angels and Demons by: Dan Brown
The Catcher in the Rye by: J.D. Salinger

Zophael
I have six books that I'd like to recommend to readers who are 14 and up, like magic and wouldn't mind seeing it used in a different setting. All six of these books make up R.A. Salvatore's "War of the Spider Queen" series which takes place in the Wizards of the Coast's Forgotten Realms Fantasy Setting, and they are as follows:

1. Dissolution by Richard Lee Byers
2. Insurrection by Thomas M. Reid
3. Condemnation by Richard Baker
4. Extinction by Lisa Smedman
5. Annihilation by Philip Athans
6. Resurrection by Paul S. Kemp

This series is the brainchild of R.A. Salvatore, a literary genius notorious for his books depicting the trials of the dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden and his friends. Though not the one writing the novels, these six books simply scream Salvatore. I've enclosed a linked that will take you to Wikipedia's description of the series here. Enjoy!

~The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak. This is my favorite book in the world, even better then Harry Potter.

~LOTR and the Hobbit, by JRR Tolkein. I used to hate these books but I've changed my mind.

~Cirque du Freak, by Darren Shan. I cannot recomend these books enough...they are nearly as good as HP.

~Warriors, by Someone Whose Name I Cannot Remember. A really good series, even if it is about cats.

~The Solitaire Mystery, by Josten Gaarder. It is a bit complicated though....
Hilly
I agree with LOTR series and The Giver (sad, but a good read).

I just read a book callled Hiroshima. It's a really good read but very depressing and brings up a good point.
PoodlePatronus
My favorite book is definitely harry potter, nothing beats it!
My other favorite authors are:
-Eoin colfer (Artemis Fowl)
-Jonathan Stroud (the bartimaeus trilogy)
-Christopher Paolini (eragon)
-William Goldman (princess bride)
-Ann Brashares (the Sisterhood books)
-Carl Haaisen (Hoot)
-Sharon Creech (The Wanderer)
-Eva Ibbotson (Journey to the River Sea)

My LEAST favorite book ever has to be the DaVinci Code, I thought it was too predictable.
Fall_out_Girl
ooo, i love Sarah Dessen books. im reading her book called, "Someone Like You", and so far it is amazing, sad yes, but awesome. i have some other books by her here, got them from the local library, "That Summer" and "Keeping the Moon".
Horace Slughorn
I just finished reading another book and I have to add it to my list! I just finished reading the Da Vinci Code, and I really liked it. PoodlePatronus, what did you think was too predictable? Well anyway, I like the way Dan Brown writes. In my opinion this book was fast paced and very interesting. A lot of things were happening at once and tied up fantastically in the end. I really thought it was a good ending. It may not have been a shocker, but it was a bit surprising. smile.gif

I now just moved onto Angels and Demons. I don't know why I started reading the second in the series before the first, but the Da Vinci Code was more widely known. wink.gif

~_H-S_~
Albus Dumbledore
Ok so the most recent book I have read is "New Moon" by Stephanie Meyers, it is the sequel to "Twilight". I got the book as a mistake on the part of the book keeper at WaldenBooks, she put it out two weeks early and I got it before she realized!!!! Haha, but when it is available for everyone else read both of those books, they are an amazingly written new twist on the well established Vampire/werewolf theme.... it is great biggrin.gif
PoodlePatronus
About the DaVinci code... How many times were they at gunpoint in the first chapter? When reading that book it wasn't necessary to think at all, it was like a scavenger hunt... they just kept getting led to one more place, which led them to another place, to another place, to another place... kind of formulaic, almost. There was no mystery or complexity. And it was not realistic... the characters weren't developed very well and Langdon was a total dunce. Or the backwards writing. It took them about five pages to find a mirror and figure out what it was; of course Leonardo DaVinci wrote backwards! And it was predictable. Everyone, even the people who are supposed to be so smart, are so suprised when they find out something that the reader should have seen about two chapters ago. In all, I just thought it wasn't very intellectually stimulating. mellow.gif

I absolutely adore almost anything written by Terry Pratchett. He's a brilliant satirist. He's written a couple of books for young adults called The Wee Free Men and Hat Full of Sky, which are excellent reads for teens--although I enjoyed them immensely too, and I'm far from my teens, lol tongue.gif

His Discworld novels are geared more toward adults, and have several sub-series in them--The Witches series, the Wizard series, the Death series, and the Watch series.

My favorites are the Witches series and the Wizard series. magic.gif The Witches series starts with Wyrd Sisters, then goes to Witches Abroad, Lords and Ladies, Carpe Jugulum, and Masquerade. The Wizard Series begins with The Colour of Magic, then The Light Fantastic, Sourcery, Eric, and Interesting Times

All of my copies are well-loved, much-read, dog-eared, and some are even taped together so the pages stay put! I would recommend his writings to anyone who has a wicked sense of humor! thumbsup.gif
(My siggie has an excerpt from the beginning of Wyrd Sisters) cool.gif
Magic Khrixx
Ho God...
If I start to say all the books that I like, I'll never add this reply! tongue.gif
Let's see:
Obviously, I love each and every one of the HP's books.
Then I have:
LOTR,
Eragon and Eldest,
The Mists of Avalon;
The Trilogy of Sevenwaters;
The Dark Mirror;
Fox Mask;
The Son of Thor;
Tom Bombadill;
Souad, Burned Alive;
The Historian;
The Burning Times;
The DaVinci Code;
Angels and Demons;
The Digital Fortress;
Rainbow Bones;
all of NArnia books;
Le Fantòme de L'Opera;
Le Journal Intime de Ellen Rimbauer: MA Vie A Rose Red;
And the list coul go on and on and on... happy.gif
MyBroomstickIsBetterThanYours
OOOH I love reading happy.gif
Umm, the list of my favorite books is a bit long, but my favorite PLUS books are those from the People of Ember series... right now, that includes The City of Ember, The People of Sparks and The Last Prophet. They're absolutely amazing.
*col*
I love My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. It's about a girl named Anna who all her life has had to be a donor for her sister who has leukemia - infact, she was born for this very reason. Now she is filing a lawsuit for medical emancipation from her parents. It's just... incredible. It made me appreciate my life more. It is very detailed and an amazing read.

I also love The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. This one is about a 14 year old girl named Susie Salmon who is raped then killed and throughout the book watches her family change and deal with the loss. Peter Jackson is making it into a movie in 2007 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0380510/).

Both incredible books smile.gif Has anyone else read and loved them?

I also love The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold.

Do you think that THe Lovely Bones would be appropriate for a 12-year old? I've heard that it's really good but my mom might not let me read it.

One of my new favorite books is the Bartimaes Trilogy. I hated the first one but this boy I know told me that the next one was really good and had girls in it and it was SO good! The end of Ptolemy's Gate(the last one)is really sad but my favorite characters live, and my least favorite dies so I don't know why I think that it's sad.

Also another book that I love is the Book THeif. It is the best book ever, better than HP as hard as that is to beleive.
avengedsevenfoldowns
My other favourite books are tied with Harry Potter for my favourite, they are the Halo series, there is 3 of them in all, but there should be a fourth as they haven't come out with one for Halo 2 yet and I want to know what happens since I'm too lazy to beat it, anyways the books are caled:The Fall of Reach(prequal to the original game) The Flood(what happens in the original game) and First Strke (sequal to first game prequal to second game).

I've read the Book Theif, and you're right, it's pretty awesome happy.gif
I also had started reading the first book of the Bartimaes series, but I couldn't finish it. It was the first time I didn't finish a book! Maybe if the others in the series are interesting I'll look itno finishing the first... blink.gif
Julia_Rose_Black
I love to reading! I tend to only read series of books though. A few of my favorite series are:

The Deryni series by Katherine Kurtz
The Shannara books by Terry Brooks
The Xanth Series by Piers Anthony
The 9 Princes of Amber books by Roger Zelazny

They're all really cool fantasy books bordering on Sci-fi occasionally, but the're really awsome books and there are many many books per series, so there's a lot to read! I happen to have read almost all of them! happy.gif

Okay well it is quite graphic. I'm 16 and I'm not sure if it would be okay for a 12 year old, but if you are a mature 12 year old I think it would be okay. If you respect your mum's wishes, you could maybe get her to read it? Or a part of it? If she doesn't let you read it, you'll have to wait 'til you are a bit older I guess.

I just started reading the Pendragon series last week, and they were SO good that I read them one a day last week. I would even venture to say that they are even better than Harry Potter.

Redwall
The Book Thief
The Hobbit
The Inheritance Trilogy
FFFanatic06
So I'm taking Early British Literature (because I couldn't get into poetry or acting) and we're forced to read Beowulf. I hate that book. But it did to one of my new favorites; Grendel by John Gardner. (The book may not be appropriate for the squemish but it so interesting which is, afterall, the most important part of any book.) The book retells the first few dozen pages of Beowulf and Grendel's war against Hrothgar from the view point of the monster Grendel. Gardner dooesn't an excellent job of portraying a beast as what it is a lost, confused and frightened individual who has allowed himself to commit horrible crimes to validate his existense and "break up the boredom" of life. And then Beowulf comes...
62442al_Man
