I know I like looking at theories, but is it such a good idea? If you personally hit upon something does one really need others to acknowledge it? Or is being a ‘secret keeper’ a better option. Is there really victory in the 'spoils'?
Talk to me. Tell me. I'm tormented about this topic.

Yes you should post if you find something out about the books you want to share. That's the whole point of the forum. if you don't want to read about stuff like that and want to figure it out for yourself, then what is the point of coming onto forums, where the whole idea is to discuss the books and ideas?
Seeing as the only person that actuallt knows how this will all turn out and I doubt she frequents the forums

I think it's a good idea to post theories on the books. There are such long lulls between the releases of each book that lively discussions keep our interest alive and well.
If a person does have a theory that they are certain is correct and they post it they will receive feedback from other readers that may have caught something you missed that could alter your view. This is what makes discussion so good....it keeps you on your toes and makes you see things from another person's perspective and may lead you on to other avenues of thought

Yes if it's something important then post it. i don't mind hearing spoilers most of the time but other people might not. stiil post it because it would be interesting to hear about the news and stuff. posting theorires is never a bad thing and people always love to hear your ideas, especially me. it's neat to learn what people think and how they react to theories and spoilers. i a person posts a good theory then many will post back and reply with their thoughts and theories. yep. if you've got something to share with everyone then post it because there are always people who want to hear these things.

In my oppinion if you found somthing even if its little or really isn't that important I think you should post it..We are always looking for new theories..and it could be somthing that we have overlooked. I think that you should definantly post it. And don't worry about the response to it..people on this site are openminded to new theories and I don't think that anyone would make fun of it as all of the theories are mostly speculation no matter what we say lol.. well thats my peace.

well, yes, it think you should post it... it's cool to share theories and to *talk* about them, so you can see other people's opinions and that's always good!
as we dont know anything for sure, i think it's good to get as many opinions as possible and then you can see it all in an other light, maybe, because everyone sees it different.

I think that discussing new theories and ideas is wonderful, and given that none of us actually knows what is going to definately happen its even more intriguing,
I think that it is especially good since a vast majority of the people of forums such as Veritaserum do respect your ideas and don't disregard them as 'stupid',
I like that we all respect each others ideas even if we don't particularily agree with them - after all anyone of us could be right or wrong - So I agree that posting new information is a good thing, and an in depth discussion of it is also fun
- however, I hate it when some (a very very small minority of people) are quite rude about ideas
- I mean, even if some ideas may seem a bit 'out there' a few years ago - I would have said that a three headed dog guarding a trap door to a stone which provides 'immortality' was near impossible to be included - but it was, which is what is so wonderful about these books (and books in general) any thing can happen and any one of the theories could be correct
so I think that all ideas are valid and worthwhile and should be posted no matter how trivial/important or mundane/bizarre (not to mention, they provide me with a few hours of distraction from work

)

I enjoy reading the New Clues to Harry Potter Analysis and Speculation books. They give you hints, but they don't give away everything. They point out things that seem strange or are easily overlooked that may be points of interest. I don't want to know everything because I enjoy being surprised when I read Harry Potter. I do like looking at theories, but people know that there is a slim chance that they could be right. I think they just want to have something to do. Like with the Lily/Snape theory, it is pretty unlikely, but it is kind of and interesting guess. I mean, I never would have though tof that!
It is fun to discuss new ideas, but if there were a CRUCIAL piece of information that was sure to happen, I would not want to hear it.

I voted for "no." I've actually been avoiding HP forums for the longest time precisely because of all the theories running around. I loathe spoilers, even the ones that JKR herself discloses to the public. I prefer to be surprised, shocked, scandalized, whatever.

In this case, if I found something crucial in HBP, I would probably post it, and then leave the discussion for the others. LOL So it's kinda like "I'll share what I know, but don't tell me what you think."
So yeah. I hate spoilers.

i personally don't look at spoilers in general. i think alot of them are kind of ridiculous. But there is always the chance that they could be right. and i guess if you figure something out, getting other opinions are either really good for the theory or really bad for your self-esteem.

I think its healthy and fun to discuss theories and ideas. It helps build up the feeling of belonging in a HP community.
But if you discovered unquestional proof about the end of the book - then it would probably be better to not post it - no one wants the ending ruined.

Without a doubt it wold be considered a very kind thing to do by most Harry Potter fans, because anyone would want a clue, right? However, it can spoil something in the plot that could otherwise be a shocking or pleasant surprise. Not to mention there is something alluring about being the only one privy to some very crucial information. Muahaha evil.
So I voted Maybe. You could drop a small hint, perhaps? Hmm?

I think you should but there should be a thread for this sort of thing... I don't know if there is... so that people who don't want to know won't accidentally come across it. I mean if you voted "no" on this poll you don't want to suddenly find out something that you were trying to work out for yourself. But, if you voted "yes" you might really want to find something out and if nobody has posted anything they've found, what are you going to do?

I voted yes and not because I've been tortured about what mit happen. I think its cool to read all the theories out their about the seventh book. And you never really know if your right or wrong.
This is to anyone with a theory out there that has not yet posted it, POST IT POST IT NOW! Reading theorys is one of the main reasons I joined this site. And lets say you have a theory about book seven and you don't post it and it turns out you were right from the start but no one knows you knew. Now if you post it and your right everyone at least that reads this site will know you knew.

But I know I know and will get rather smug satisfaction when I get to see the full solution in July. Here online I’d rather add to the ideas already given. Or show a different way of looking at some events.
I still have crazed theories in which I haven’t a clue if I’ve lost my mind or not.

I enjoy reading the theories people put forward. I have found in the past after reading a theory or something somebody has highlighted from one of the books, I end up reading the book again and wondering how I managed to miss it. It is always good to hear other peoples interpretations, whether you agree or disagree with them, it makes for entertaining reading and makes you think laterally.

I love reading theories on VTM . I think if you have a theoroy you should post it , becuase thats what the fourms are here for , when I read the theories they really make me think and figure more stuff out that unless I had read the theory would never have dreamed up . You can't be sure if your theory is right until Book 7 comes out so you might as well post it and see what everyone else thinks.
I hadn't been on a forum before I read the first six so the seventh will be a new experience. Now I have several theories I'll be looking to confirm or disprove. It will be different but I'm not sure for better or worst.

I would like the surprise when you finally read the last book, because if you theorize too much about it, it may let you down. Although it is nice to sometimes get a hint or two

. Sometimes I wonder if JK ever read the thoeries that people post and then do the total opposite! She seems like she would do that.

I voted maybe. People are entitled to do as they please, but then they should at least title it with a spoilers warning, that way, those of us who prefer to be surprised (i think that makes the books so much better) can choose not to read them. However, the people who just can NOT wait for the book..(hehe, i understand, trust me i do) can look in and get instant gratification...so i am on that grey line where i don't know right and wrong

Of coarse I'd post it. I want others opinions on the matter. Well first I see if it's already psoted and about 60% of the time it is. But that's what veritaserum is here for, right? Yes, i think that you should post something if you find something crucial, cause then other people can discuss it and figure out if it is true or not!
As for other people clicking on it and spoiling the book, that si their choice to. But you should also put a warning that there is spoilers there in that post to be fair!

i think that you are right, with the jk rowling reading posts and then doing the opposite in the books, cause that would be a good thing to do, but in some parts she must have a hard time deciding what to do, like with harry she can either kill him, or let him live.
but anyway, i think that if someone has info on hbp they should tell. but they should have a warning and then be able to tell.

the whole point of the forums is to post your "OPINION" no matter what "evidence" you have or what "fact" you have found Jo always finds a way to suprise everyone so no matter what you think you found out or the theories you have come up with post them see if anyone else agrees with you on it because i think the more theories that are out there the more interesting it will be to see if any of them were any where even close to what Jo has thought up

Personally, I really like that I can be able to come here and read the many different theories people come up with. There can be so many varying thoughts surrounding even one event or character and I love that! Heh, especially because I seem to need a little creative encouragement before I start to actually analyze what is happening.

Besides, what would we all be doing without all this to talk about? (Not that we have
lives or anything...)

I think you're right about it being just an opinion afterall. But I still want to hold it back. It explains too way much and there would be no chance of
not hearing about it before Deely Heely's release in July. Which is exactly what JKR hopes will not happen.
I left three clues on my profile. I still could be wrong! Either way I'll explain it out this summer what I thought was going on.

These forums are all about posting opinions and theories to share with others. Other people will either agree or disagree. They can then give their own evidence or opinions to contradict and credit your ideas. Why not share with everyone? If people kept to themselves, there wouldn't be a point at all to these forums.

Chapter One of HBP is what you need to read, then think hard when you get to Spinner’s End. And there’s only a few more hours left…
I’ll be back next week to update edit this and let you know where I was heading.

I didn't find anything crucial in HBP, or else I did and I think that everyone knows it, I forget. But I agree, people who go on here should have read the books and watched the movies (minus OotP 'cause it just came out). So if someone said their opinon then it shouldn't matter, it's just their opinon.
