hi
i have braces and sometimes they really annoy me and i get the mick taken out of me at school
does anyone else have the annoyance of braces?
thanks
etphonehome
I never had braces but I know a lot of kids have them nowadays. I know they can be a pain and are hard to get used to as my niece would often complain to me about hers but I always said just think about the beautiful straight smile you'll have when they're off!!! Anyone who takes the mick will be dead jealous.
Misto
I had them for ages and I wore even the ones you can take out to school as I wouldn't have had any chance to wear them otherwise being on horseback every afternoon. There are so many who have them - so what?
In the end I could easily have not worn them at all as my dentist's fear came true and my wisdom teeth came out. I have very little room in my mouth wich means my whole set of lower is now worse than ever. But I refuse to take out teeth that don't hurt me for beauty's sake, especially when I would have to go through the same stupid process again. Then I prefere to keep the ugly smile but don't spend my money on not being able to eat for days.

I had braces from when I turned thirteen to about seven months after I turned fourteen. I got them on around the time when many of my classmates were getting them off, but no-one really bothered me about it. All the hours at the orthodontist definitely were not worth it because I just had a gap between my front teeth-- it was only a cosmetic problem. I think the only reason I went along with the braces at all was because I thought changing the colors of the rubber bands every six weeks was cool... orange and black for Halloween, red and green for Christmas, pink for Valentine's day, etc. Now I have two years' worth of extremely goofy-looking school pictures. tongue.gif

I agree with you, though, that braces are a major pain. There's all this food that they tell you not to eat. I basically ignored those lists for the first three months, but then the back brackets fell off while I was eating popcorn and I got really freaked out about anything crunchy or sticky after that... thought I would swallow the rubber bands or something. I've been wearing retainers overnight for three years since I got the braces off, but I visited the orthodontist yesterday and it sounds as though I'm going to be allowed to stop with them in September! biggrin.gif (<-- that's for my wonderful smile rolleyes.gif)

i have braces right now, and it is a pain... i don't really mind the braces after awhile, but it's the rubber bands i hate! i have to have two rubberbands that are shaped like a triangle and one on the side... so whenever i talk or open my mouth, the first thing you see are the rubber bands... it's really annoying. so when i go somewhere formal or talk to a lot of people... i take them off

but good news is the orthodonist said i can take them off in 2 months! smile.gif i'm so happy... i had a huge overbite and a few crooked teeth on the top, but now i'm going to have perfect teeth... but i wish i didn't have to wear a retainer later... this is going to be my new smile biggrin.gif (i copied Allie)

Yup, I got braces...not good! mad.gif Where I live, there are a lot of people who have braces.
When I first got them on, I couldn't really eat anything but soup for about four days because they hurted so much! Sometimes they hurt again for a little bit after I go to get them tightened, but other han that, they're now just annoying. If I'm complaining, my mum always says "just think of what they'll look like when they're off" - hope she's right! But it's really annoying now, cos so many of my friends are starting to get theirs off...I still have another 12 months or something...oh well!

I had braces for two years but today I got them out! They are gone! *jumps up and down* biggrin.gif Wow though, my teeth feel all slimey and waay to big for my mouth, and my gums are like, taking over all the room! My orthodontist said the swelling will go away soon .. And to those who still have braces .. don't worry, you will get them off sooner than you think, and trust me, it is so worth it in the end.

-Dominique
PS: Oooh I hated the little rubber bands! Never did wear them much .. and as a result, delayed my braces removal for about 2 months .. so guys, wear your elastics! smile.gif

I am getting braces really soon! Mum still has to make the appointment with the orthodonist because the dentist has already given me the referal!
My friend has the same orthodonist as me and he warned me never to eat a certain ceral and get it stuck under one of the band hooks then use your tounge to get it out. He cut his tounge open doing this and had to walk five minutes with blood pouring out to the orthodonist because he couldn't get a lift.

With the bands, some boys in my class collected them, put them in their mouths and flicked them around the room! laugh.gif It was extremly funny and great use of the bands.

Caity, with her phantom smile biggrin.gif

I got them off about 6 months ago, right before christmas. I got them in 6th grade, and got them off in 8th. They were a major pain in the beginning, but after a while you get used to them. Now I have retainers that I wear at night, it was horrible at first when I had to wear them 24/7. And I suggest you take them out while eating, because eating gets pretty gross while wearing them. Having braces was well worth it though, but I have to get wisdom teeth pulled soon since they're coming in. unsure.gif
Kells bells
I have removable braces, but the problem is, I remove them and only wear them at night ph34r.gif
My orthodontist is going to have a fit when I go there on the 30th June.
But I can't wear them in the day because then I play with them and they get really loose then fall out for no apparant reason. And I've just had a load of exams, and I can't wear them exams because I'll finnish early, play with them, and I'm paranoid that they will shoot out of my mouth and hit someone in the middle of the exam. blush.gif How embarrissing would that be?! And also, no-one has a clue what I'm saying with my brace in. I know, excuses. But I don't mind wearing them at night. So I don't mind having to wear them forever, except I turn 16 soon and it won't be free anymore so I'll just ask them to take it out and let me keep my vampire tooth...

I got braces in January. I have to have them for three years, which sucks, but the orthodontist (sp) showed me a model of what my teeth will look like when my braces are off, and they will be prefect. At least I hope so.

You get teased about braces? At my school almost half of the kids have them. My are not even that noticeable, they are not as bad as they used to be.... The thing that I really hate about them is cleaning. Flossing woth those stupid floss threders is a pain.
sexy-lass
I use to wear a retainer, that’s the same as a brace but you can take it off for those who don't know lol. I use to year in when I was in year 4 and from remembering it was alright, I use to wear mine all the time as I was obsessed with my teeth and wanted them to be perfect. It wasn't requested to wear them all the time [[only when i go to sleep]] but I decide to wear them all the time. But I remember that the other kids didn't really mined them even though I was the only person in my year to wearing a brace.

I think that people who are having problems with braces and other kids should really just ignore them because in the end of the day you are the one that is going to have amazing teeth and well they won't have as perfect as teeth because braces can really make teeth look amazing. After the amount of time you have to wear them and you take them off you will be happy that you put them on smile.gif
Fall_out_Girl
i had a retainer for like 4 whole years and i just got them off 2 years ago. i had it from age 6 to 10. sometimes it bugged me a lot but i didn't know you could take them off so i went 4 years with a retainer on! haha, but now i have very straight teeth so i guess it payed off! biggrin.gif

I have braces right now and I really hate them. No one makes fun of me but I only have braces on the top teeth and not the bottom, which looks weird. Also they are too small to see the colors(green and silver at the moment, but usually red and gold)which makes me really hate them more.
griffindor_girl
I have braces and it has been about half a year since I have gotten top braces. I have had the bottom ones for longer because I had to have an expander (it is still in my mouth) and turn it with a little green tool wink.gif . It was uncomfortable but now I don't have to turn the expander because I have my top braces so I am happy to have my top braces because of that! No one teases me about my braces as many people have them. Some people actually want to get braces because they think that they are fashionable (yes.........). For some reason I don't understand why people find having your breakfast in your teeth at lunchtime very fashionable! I really don't mind them and they don't hurt anymore! Right now I have purple and blue and I was thinking about choosing red and gold when I go back but I have a feeling most people will think that I like Mcdonald's! The Gryffindor colours are majestic in Harry Potter and I do love them despite their possible interpretation while decorating somebody's mouth!

griffindor_girl, i used to have an expander aswell, a tip take a nurofen or painkiller of your choice about 15 mins before you turn the screw, the painkiller will work faster and it won't be as uncomfortable for you.. do you get the tight feeling across your cheeks?? *shudders* argh i feel sorry for you...i havent thought about that feeling for a while and it makes me shiver!! oh well its all going to be worth it in the end..a small price to pay for a georgeous smile for life!

I don't have braces. Never had them and probably never will have them biggrin.gif Not that my teeth are perfectly staight by themselves, but somehow my dentist doesn't think I need them.

They gave you a list? Wow. I remember the only thing they ever told me was to take care so the brakets stay on. And that it would be unwise to eat chewing gum - I think I would have figured that one out on my own rolleyes.gif
But I perfectly remember the first one or two days after readjusting them. Ouch! First day the only food I could eat was untoasted toast and it was still bad. Besides untoasted toast is just awful wacko.gif

Yep, I have braces. I got them January 6th of 2005. I'm probably going to get them off in October (only if I wear my rubber bands though, which I hardly do dry.gif ). They really are a pain, but you learn to get used to them. I never thought I would, but I can't imagine myself without them now.

After a while, I got bored about having to pick the colors, brushing them perfectly, etc.
Mine don't hurt anymore when they're tightened, but when only the ortho changes the wires. The worst part about braces are actually the spacers (but some people don't get them), and they hurt! When you get braces, it's not as uncomfortable as the second hour of having spacers because your teeth are used to having stuff between them..but the spacers make room in your mouth and give you aches (in both head and mouth for me).

Heh, hope I'm not scaring anyone here who's going to get braces..but I guess they're worth it, though I can't see how my teeth are going to look like.
parvati
Oh yea Spaces mad.gif they hurt, blue little thing killed when they got put in, rubber bands huh.gif what's that, i had train track to put it staight, then i had removeable retains which make you talk funny laugh.gif

Parvati
#fawkes#
i had to have spaces put in
this was right before my cousins birthday party and it really annoyed me cos i couldnt eat any of the food mad.gif
i was so glad to have them out
fragglecomegomibayas
I've had them for a year and a half and my dentist says I need another year with them, I guess that's fine because one guy at school has had them for 6 years! I hope that's not my case!

And yes they hurt, only for a day or two after I go to the dentist, I also hate that I can't eat stuff like I would normally do, because things would get stuck on the braces, ugh.

So,I guess for everyone out there that lives with braces it is comforting to know that having them is worth it after you see how pretty your teeth are after all that pain

At least that's what comforts me

oh lord. braces suck! i'm sorry but does anyone disagree with me?
i was born with something called a cleft palet, so all the teeth on my left side slant in. i had 6 surgeries before the age of 5. i first got braces on in 3RD GRADE!!!!!!!!!!!! then in the begingin of fifth grade i got them off. then at the begining of 7th grade i got them on again, and now in 8th grad i still have them. i fear i shall never be rid of them*sniffles* sad.gif

hadem since 10. 1 more year!!!

I have shmexxxyyyy braces...
Dean_Thomas
I feel for all the people who have braces!
God I hated those things.... I was lucky I only had them on for
a year about. Now I have to wear these goddanged retainers.
they are horible! mad.gif

Sorry
luckyfish
Oh!I am so glad that I don't have them anymore! biggrin.gif I feel free and I also feel sorry for all those poor innocent people out there who have to wear them...They were horrible and sore when I had them for the first 3 days or so.But I had braces for a year and a half...Sucks
I now have to wear a plate and that is becoming a total nuesence since I keep on losing the damn thing.. rolleyes.gif

I got my braces in early June. They're such a pain. I hate eating because everything gets stuck inside them. I'm really dreading getting the rubberbands dry.gif
imtherealluna*
I might get braces, but my dentist says that i might not need them. She said that if i want prefect straight teeth, them i should get braces. I think im not going to get them, though...
james pickles
I have had my top brace on for a few month now. I have just got my bottom on today. My mouth is in agony. I hate it when you first get them on. For like four to five days your mouth kills. I will get over it and it will be worth it in the long run.
Aethonon
I had them when I was young. They were hard, especially when one first gets them on, and they happily tear up all the tender tissues inside your mouth and make your teeth bleed! That's too much fun. And no caramel apples at Hallowe'en! sad.gif

But I had two problems that the braces were able to fix! First of all, in my family, every other generation there are people whose lower jaw grows faster than the upper one, or more, or something, so the person either has an underbite, or the teeth meet right together. My grandpa had his teeth meet together and by the time he was old, they'd ground each other down to almost nothing. When the dentist saw it happening to me, he suggested an orthodontist, and they were able to fix the problem with the braces by using the rubber bands to slow down the growth of my lower jaw and correct my bite.

Also, I had a tooth actually grow out of the roof of my mouth! They were able to use a tiny spring in the braces structure to open a space large enough to slip the tooth down into, so that worked out really well.

I didn't like wearing braces, except that back when I had them they were a bit of a novelty. I didn't like the pain after adjustment, I didn't like the retainers after. I liked my orthodontist though, he was a hottie! wub.gif lol
james pickles
Haha Aethonon. It is so unfair. I cannot eat anything right now because the flimsy things hurt. I will be stuck on soup, mashed potatoes and beans, and noodles all week. sad.gif My first brace wasn't as bad. I had a twin block brace and I had it because my top jaw was too far forward and my back too far behind so I had those in for about a year. They were like retainers, only they were completely made of plastic and I had to take them out for eating, everyday at school I had to take them out. Uhh. I had to tighten them myself too. There was this twisty thing that needed twisting twice a week. I have to do that with a key my Orthodontist gave me. When I had them off I took them home and danced ontop of them and then I burnt them in the fire. Now I have a train track. Uhhh. This bottom one I had on today is killing. I am sick of brushing my teeth for like seven minutes and then using those picky things you use to clean under the brace, and then you have to use mouthwash. It is soo annoying when I am tired and I just wanna brush my teeth and go to bed but I have to spend ten minutes doing all those extra things. And now I have to do my bottom teeth aswell!! Uhh. Sucks.
HP_RULES!
I got mine off about a year ago so I feel your pain! I hated having them on, whenever they were tightened I couldn't eat for a few days and the rubberbands I had to wear all the time hurt sooo bad! And of course, Halloween wasn't as much fun because I couldn't eat about half the candy I had gotten because it all had caramel in it and my dentist was amazing at knowing when I ate something I wasn't suppose to, I think he was a mind reader or something. Seriously, whenever I ate something bad I would spend forever making sure I got it all out of my teeth and I was careful when I ate it so I wouldn't break a bracket, but he always knew. I was happy when his assistant started looking my teeth over because he was nicer and really hot! wub.gif

They did really help me though. As a kid I had twisted teeth, like some of them you could only see the side practically. It was really bad and now my teeth are all straight and pretty! They also fixed my overbite and everything else that was wrong with my mouth. It definitely pays off when you finally get them off! biggrin.gif
james pickles
What are rubber bands and spacers? Yeah I know it pays off. I actually chose to have train tracks on. Once my other brace moved my jaw back, my Orthodontist said it was up to me to have my train tracks on to make my teeth perfect, and I wanted them. I don't mind them that much, just not have chocolate and sweets, and at Halloween in the UK, we don't get sweets or candy as you call it when we trick or treat, we get money like 50p so that isn't an issue. But when you get them put on. OWW!!
HP_RULES!
Rubber bands are small bands that are hooked onto your braces that go from a few braces on the top to ones on the bottom. They were the most painful part of braces! They fixed my overbite by pulling the top layer of my teeth back. I've never had spacers.

I can't believe that you get money on Halloween! I'd much rather have money, it's not like the candy does me any good. I never eat that much of it anyway! That's so cool, I'm going to the UK for Halloween this year!
Aethonon
Yep, that's what my rubber bands were for, too. Except I had to pull my lower jaw back, so there were little hooks put on the top back molars, and little hooks put on the lower canines, and the rubber band was stretched between them, to place extra presure on the lower jaw--not allow it to grow so fast.

Luckily, my son didn't need braces, but his kids might.
Velvet
When I was younger I had to wear braces because my my two front teeth overlapped - apparently to fix just two teeth (all of the rest were fine, not that I'm still bitter even years later tongue.gif ) I had to wear fixed braces for 2 years, I hated it and even worse is that when I was about 18 (a few years ago - I'm old) my wisdom teeth started growing and now my front teeth slightly overlap again sad.gif, but they were nice for a while and it was worth having them on

I hated wearing braces, the worse was when the wire sometime stuck out of the side and cut my cheeks and they gave me that useless gum stuff to put over it - and it only got sorted when I went back to have them tightened and they cut off the excess wire - but then I had the pain of the tightening - two years they were my choices, cut to ribbons by a wire or my-teeth-are-being-pulled-apart pain

I remember once, (just before I got them taken off) that I was playing around with the hoop thing on one of my back teeth and flipped it off, I'm not entirely sure how it happened but the wire escaped and dug into my gum - my mum phoned up the emergency line (it was after hours) and she was told that it wasn't an emergency - I had a wire in my gum!

How wierd is it when you get them taken off?, I remember feeling so elated that I didn't have to use that tiny toothbrush to brush between the train-tracks anymore, and the first thing I did was run my tongue over my shiney new straight teeth - it was such a great feeling
james pickles
Lol. That is what I am going to do. I cannot wait till I get them off. But I bet I will miss them when I do. I have always never had much confidence with my teeth, so hopefully have perfect teeth will boost my confidence. I can't wait for perfect teeth.
HP_RULES!
james pickles: I hope you get your braces off soon and get to enjoy your new perfect teeth!

I loved getting mine off, but it kinda freaked me out at first. My teeth were so slimy!!!! I guess it just felt that way because I hadn't felt them in so long, but I was still beyond thrilled to get them off!
Caitlin in Australia
I had my first orthodontist appointment today and found out I had three choices.
1) I could have no braces and get problems later in life;
2) I could get braces on the bottom front eight teeth for cosmetic reasons only, still get problems later in life, and;
3) I can have braces for two years, then a retainer on the bottom permantly stuck in with one on the top for a few years and then a plate for bascially the rest of my life.
I have decided to go with option three because that way when I'm older I won't suffer as many mouth and teeth problems.
I get the spaces and braces in October and then in two years I will have a smile that looks like biggrin.gif ! But I have to get my wisdom teeth out at 18. sad.gif
james pickles
Yeah, get perfect teeth, that is my advice. I am a litte confused though, you have to have something in your mouth for the rest of your life? I hope you will be happy with your perfect teeth.

COMPLAINERS!

Braces arn't THAT bad, everyone has them nowadays... Had them since 11, had a headgear for nights, and now I have the 2nd set of braces (2nd time put on, 2 phases...) with an e-chain, rubber bands, steel wire colors... not bad after you get used to it. only 6 months left!!!

-- Thomas
HP_RULES!
Getting your wisdom teeth out isn't that bad, don't worry, I had to get them out last year because they were going to undo what my braces had done and my orthodonist wanted to get them out before they finished growing. You don't feel a thing!

Esrb99: That was kind of mean! I'm sorry that you have to go through all that, but you dont have to be rude.
james pickles
Well..I've had several teeth out, luckily two out of the three were my milk teeth, and the other one is an adult molar. You can't feel a thing when having teeth out. And I mean it. The worst bit is an injection. But they put this cream to numb your gum up first, and then they give you the injection and because your gum is numb it only feels like a prod.
Velvet
Caitlin, I think that you are making the right choice (and don't worry it isn't that bad, my post may have made it sound horrid, but it isn't, I just moan a lot tongue.gif and that really was the worst of it, it wasn't bad all the time) - just keep on reminding yourself about that smile biggrin.gif

And definately do have your Wisdom teeth out, HP_RULES! is right (it would be a shame to go through with the braces only to have them pushed back by wisdom teeth) I wish that I had mine taken out straight away (mine made my front teeth overlap again), but I was a little bit scared (ok, for 'little bit scared' read 'terrified' tongue.gif) and I regret it now

I wish you luck with it, although I'm sure you won't need it
HP^4^Life
Arrrr braces, no, never will get them.. I can honestly say I have really good teeth, all are straight and neat and tidy lol. Braces are bad, ono gum, i can not live without it. Sigh, braces are depressing. dry.gif
james pickles
Braces are not that depressing. They can be when they hurt alot and you get frustrated but other than that they aren't that bad. I can think of much more depressing things. Did Emma Watson have braces because I saw a few pictures of her with braces in?
gabaluba
Okay this is my sad story about braces....

When I was on 4th grade, my mother watched that my teeth were growing up badly, so we went to the dentist and he said I'd need braces. I said 'THAT'S GREAT!'** (I was 9 guys...) At first, I loved them 'cause I was the "last new" of my classmates. But then, everybody came with braces, even the ones that didn't need them. 2 years passed by, and I was still with braces, so I started to get used to them for the rest of my sad life. In 7th year, I started to go to great parties, so I had to wear make-up. And what a problem! All the lipstick was over my braces, and it looked terrible. I had to survive without it.

Now, that I'm in 8th grade, and I'm 14, I'm still with braces, and now I'm sure my dentist hated me. At the previous night of my 14th birthday, we did it...he adjust them! It hurt as if someone was trying to move your teeth with a thick rope, and that was exactly was he was doing! Poor of him , he does not know what I will do when he puts me off this braces...!

Here at my country, we use to make a big big big party for the 15th birthday of a girl. I really hope I'm not doing it with braces, I'll first forget Harry Potter...! happy.gif

Sorry if I had depressed you...BEWARE OF BRACES!

** I hope that someday, someday in my future...I'd have beautiful teeth. If not, I'll kill my dentist and hate my genes.
HPFan792
Well i have braces. They are kind of annoying at times but, overall they are not that bad.I have a couple more months and then i can get them taken off.So i don't think that it is that bad to have them.
Demented Dementor
I do, I can't eat certain foods, they hurt at times, especially after I come from the orthodontist, and they arent exactly the best fashion statement. but I deal with them because crooked teeth isnt exactly the best fashion statement either.
