I'm of the belief that there will obviously be more than two deaths.
First of all, sad to say, I think one of the Characters to die will be Harry. In some ways, I think this is my way of preparing myself for the WORST possible outcome. If Harry dies, I'd cry for a month. Also look at what she said in that interview. If Harry was to live(which would be great), Jo would be bombarded by requests to write a follow-up. Plus other writers would try to make a mint off her by making their own Potter-series USING Harry Potter, her Baby. Now I don't mean internet Fan Fictions, but sleaze ball Authors would try to make money off Jo Rowling. I mean it happens with the more popular songs from the 1980s. Take "Open Arms" for example. Jonathan Cain and Steve Perry of JOURNEY wrote the song and made the song famous. Many people who grew up in the 1980s know what a staple this song plays in our lives. Then Mariah Carey decided she was going to sign the song at a concert. All of a sudden, it became "Open Arms" by Mariah Carey. Okay, she did give Steve and Jon and JOURNEY credit for owning and making the song successful, but many people associate the song with her. In fact last October the show "Cold Case" played "Open Arms" at the end of an episode called "Baby Blues. The next Wednesday I was at work and someone was talking about the songs on the episode. One girl said "I had no idea Open Arms was such an old song" "I thought Mariah Carey sang it". This one guy another JOURNEY fanatic corrected her. He said "Uh, the song is a JOURNEY song". So having said this, I can understand Rowling's fierce protection of Harry Potter.
Plus it makes sense in that for Voldemort to be truly DEAD, gone, turned to dust, ash, etc, Harry has to die.

The other Character I think will die--which will make me cry harder is Severus Snape. I LOVE this Character. I really hope he's the one to get the reprieve, but I don't think it's possible. I think he will wind up being the tragic Hero by sacrificing himself for Harry and a member of the Order.

The other Characters I see dying are:
1. Hagrid--Tom Riddle--Voldemort, Lucius Malfoy and others have had it in for Hagrid for years. Plus it would really hurt Harry if he was to die. He was the first Friendly face which Harry met and saved Harry from a life of hell at the Dursleys. Hagrid also put Vernon and Dudley in their place.
2. Draco Malfoy--even though Dumbledore was killed, Voldemort's going to be angry Draco showed "Cowardice" or "weakness" by following his conscience. He also FAILED what is perhaps Voldemort's most important "Assignment".

Well i agree about Hagrid: He seems to have been losing his importance in the past few books so Jo would be able to kill one of Harry's father figures without damaging the plot too much....

Draco too has to go....

And i see Mrs OR Mr Weasley meeting their end.... they are too far into the mess....

I agree that more than 2 charecters are going to die. The question is who is going to die. The Dark Lord has to be killed. Or at least his dark side. I can't see Harry killing anyone. He couldn't even properly perform the crucio on the death eaters. How is he supposed to kill someone. I think he will find a way to either rid the Dark Lord of his dark side or powers, or feed him a poison. The charecter that will be reprieved, will be either Ron or Hermione. They have been with Harry since he first entered Hogwarts, but i doubt they will be killed. The two that will die though, will be either Mr. or Mrs. Weasly, who will be killed trying to protect Harry again. Hagrid, who the Death Eaters really don't like, and is close to Harry. Or maybe even Professor McGonagall who has taken just as much interest into Harry's safety as Dumbledore has. Everything that Dumbledore has had Harry do, McGonagall has also kept an eye on him. Its going to be a great book no matter what, but i just hope Harry doesn't die, or Ron or Hermione. They've pulled through everything, i just hope that they can pull through this.

I personally think Hagrid is going to die because all the adults that Harry ever cares about dies! It's sad but i just think he will be next. Also i think Snape will di right after they find out he is good.

Totally agree with you but i don't think he will be one of the characters in question here. Cause Jo said that 2 die that she DIDN'T INTEND TO DIE. Snape is a major part of the plot so i dont see her playing around with him like that.

Omgoodness, i really hope harry doesn't die. I might die.lol. but i do think that at least one person close to him will...possibly the weasleys, but i really hope hermione doesn't. I also think that wormtail is gonna play a big patr; possibly HELPING harry? maybe hes the reprieve....i mean, he ows harry, right? Im also wondering about ginny.....whats up with her?

Alot of people are saying they think Neville or Wormtail is going to be killed off but if were thinking in matters of two ADDITIONAL people that she didnt INTEND to kill off. im thinking more like people that you wouldn't expect to die. perhaps maybe someone that isn't that obvious. But then again she says it more casually so it might as well be someone that you could have seen dying a long time ago. so i don't really know at this point. one of my guesses is leaning towards Mrs. Weasly. i just have a feeling that she is going to be killed when originally she wasnt suppose to die.

I agree with Danielle Potter, i athink wormtail has been one of the intended deaths. JK has most likely had him dying since the start seeing as he owes harry a big favor, haha like his life mabye. I think that moody will die because he just seems like somone that would want to go in a big fight, a big fight that i think will happen in book 7.

well, theres a case either way for Mrs Weasley...she wont die because shes like a mother to harry and she needs to stick around for him, or she will, because all those close to harry die...

i reckon both lupin and wormtail will die, because shes got rid of the other 2 marauders, and i reckon shel get rid of most of the older generation to make way for the new.

still, iv thought that all along...the reprieve and 2 deaths will be more unpredictable, i think

She said 2 caracters die that she didn't intend to die. That means it is some1 out of the ordinary. (like say Ginny )

i agree it someone that we wouldent think would die i dont think ginny though.. maybe the weasly brothers.. or luna love good or someone like that ..just a thougth though

another character who will die is prob one member of the Dumbledore's Army..Luna Lovegood..yeah maybe

hmm another thing that makes me being wondered is the cover of the book..the UK cover shows the Trio falling thru the viel (I think it's the veil isnt it hmm) so maybe Ron or Hermione will sacrifice themselves by falling thru the veil and savng the other two

but it would be kinda "boring" cause Sirius already fell thru and JKR won't repeat hm

i think she meant snape to die but decided not too because of the strong belief many people have now that he's innocent although she may have thought so many would hate him as dumbledore's murderer!! I think she realised that dumbledore would have wanted to give him a 2nd chance so she is too.

Okay, 2 people are supposed to die, but she doesn't want to continue the series anymore. I think it would be Voldemort, because you can't have evil taking over, that would be sad. And Harry, because that would end it and not everyone good always survives. Just my opinon (although I hope I'm wrong about Harry....) Or could be someone that isn't really there, but is still a major part in it. Like Remus, he would take over as godfather for Harry since Sirius is dead. But if he died, then Peter would take over for Remus.... so Peter should die. Although I hope I'm wrong on all of them (except Voldemort and Peter).

Its 2 ppl who she did NOT intend to kill who have had to snuff it! so it cant be voldy or harry cause these two would have had to be the center of the plot and everything revolves around them. Jo wont just get up one morning and say- well folks im in a bad mood today lets kill Harry off!

Also we must remember there's a character who got the reprieve too!! i think Neville but i aint too sure cause he'll be taking on Bella alone (i guess)

About the whole "one of them being Harry" thing ... I think it's completely possible that Harry will die in the final book (sadly). But I don't think he's one of the ones that she was talking about ... I have a feeling it's more like Ginny and Hermione. Or Fred and George. Or Molly and Ron. Or something like that. But I guess we're not going to find out until next month. It's only a month away, folks!

I can't make any speculations or guesses of those two unfortunate characters. Maybe one of them is a major character, or both of them.

I am going to say this theory I read in the newspaper once and I will say it again.

One of the deaths may be Hagrid. Because it has been a color thing in names since Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix. Sirius Black, Albus Dumbledore (Albus means white in Latin if you didn't know) and now Rubeus Hagrid (Rubeus as in Ruby).

I agree. I also believe that Hagrid will be one of the ones to die in book 7.

As for the other character that JKR didn't intend to die but kills off anyway, I'm going to say that it will be a Weasley. It will be Ginny and/or Arthur. JKR might give a reprieve to Ron, who many theorized would die in the final book, paralleling the chess scene in book 1.

IMO, others that JKR may "bump off", but may have always had the intention of doing so, are: Percy, Lucius Malfoy, and Peter Pettigrew. I'm sure that there will be other members of the Order who will die or be seriously hurt. I think that Lupin will be seriously hurt, perhaps after killing off the evil werewolf Greyback (sp?), but he will survive.

I also think that JKR will give a reprieve to Draco. Draco is someone that I have always thought wasn't as evil as he was being portrayed. He will betray Voldemort in the end. Another character that I don't think is as evil as he was made out to be is Snape. If he were to die, which I don't think he will, he will die fighting for the good side.

But, here again, these are just speculations on my part. But, it will be interesting to find out after reading DH, that I was at least partially correct!

Have anyone here read the spoilers to the deaths of the book? I have read it by accident...I will kill my self it is true! If anyone of you want to know what I read (which I doubt anyone would) send me a owl.

So, it didn't spoil anything for me. But, I'll keep my fingers, legs and eyes crossed that it doesn't come true!!

Well, in the prophecy it says"neither can live while the other suvives" so it means they both can't be alive at the same time not that they both have to die.Besides killing the main character isn't the only way to end a series.I hope that the trio and ginny don't die.

"neither can live while the other survives" to me simply means exactly what it says. Harry or Voldemort will have to die. I'm banking that it will be Voldemort.

I think that his followers are only a few. Back in Lily and James' day, the good guys were taken by surprise by Voldemort's attacks. This time around, the Order and other good guys are waiting and planning. My opinion of course. This is why I feel that good will overcome evil. Cliche, but I think JKR will make it such. Voldemort must die, and I don't think he will take Harry with him.

I still feel that Hagrid will die, but as to who the second character will die remains a mystery to me. But, I'm guessing it might be Snape.

If I'm wrong in my thinking that Hagrid and Snape may die, I just hope that it doesn't turn out to be either Harry or Hermione. I don't think it will be Ron or Draco. I originally thought that Ron would die, paralleling The Sorcerer's Stone chess scene, but this is just too obvious, and I don't think JKR will do this. As for Draco, I believe that he just may be the one that she will give redemption too. I don't see Neville, the twins, Ginny or Luna dying either. I just don't think that they will.

But, you just never know!

I don't think that JKR would keep LV alive!! I think Harry lives, I mean think about it! If LV lives then the story can keep on going, and everyone will be dead, because he doesn't want them alive with him, he doesn't care about ANYONE!! Anyways, I think the person who gets a reprieve is Draco Malfoy, I don't know why, but I just think that it is him that gets the reprieve!! I don't think it will be Harry or LV, they are THE main characters!! You have to anticipate one of their deaths' especially when you put a prophecy in the story that says 'neither can live while the other survives!'

As for the unexpected deaths, I believe it to be a Weasley and someone else!! Maybe the twins, or maybe even Percy!! Also maybe Hagrid, or Neville! Just my thoughts...I hope they are wrong!

I agree, I think that Harry will not die. I know it might be real heroic and he would have died to save the wizarding world. But, I don't care! If he dies I will be so sad. I do think that one of the Weasleys will die, maybe Molly or Mr. Weasley. Also, Hagrid and maybe Neville, never mind, if Neville died then what happens to his parents? I just really hope that Ginny doesn't die, Harry deserves a happily ever after! And I don't think that Ron or Hermione will die, that be so sad for Harry and he would never get over it. Either way, who ever dies I bet it will be really sad and I will cry.

In one of her interviews Joanne said that she gave one of her characters a reprieve.

So I'm wondering which one do you veritaserum people think J.K saved from peril?

Im thinking it might be Neville, because I thought he may die in the attempt to kill Bellatrix Lestrange, but when JKR said one of the students will become a teacher someday I thought it might be Neville, because of his talent in Herbology. And maybe JKR planned on killing Neville, but then remembered she said one student would become a teacher, and now couldn't let Neville die.

yah i think it could be Neville and if she did say something about there being a teacher i could really c him being it.

I think is is Draco myself, because I dont think Snape counts, because I dont think he ever returned to Voldemort.

So, I think it has to be a Death Eater. So in my eyes it is more then likely Malfoy... but I know wormtail fits that criteria also, and He owes harry his life.

I really liked the idea that it was him. I think Neville does deserve to have some revenge for what happened to his parents as it was a terrible thing to have happen to someone so close to you. And he does have the power to seek revenge just not the confidence with himself and his powers but after what he has been through in the last two books he has become more confident with what he can achieve.

I this could mean anybody. We all have our own take on who is a main character. I don't know if I would call some of the members of the Phoenix a main character but others might. I think that this could strongly imply that Harry will die, but I don't know if JK would want to anger so many fans in case she ever decided to write any other stories. I don't really know who would also die in the story. I think wormtail will probably die but I don't know if I would call him a main character.

Ok, when Rowling said two main characters will die, I started speculating because it was very intruiging. First, I thought it was Harry, because Rowling keeps dropping hints that she's going to kill him off, but this could be feinting, and in worry, all of us will buy the book to find out (she didn't really need to, I'm sure everyone will buy the book no matter what).

Then, I thought it could be Ginny, because she wants to keep the drama, so by killing her off, we feel sorry for Harry. It could also be the Weasley parents because they are Harry's 'considered' family, and what better way to hurt everyone by killing them?

So I'm not really sure, but we're going to find out in 2 days right?!?!

Man, I can't wait!

I hope it's Hagrid, he really doesn't deserve to die! I like him and his monstrous tenancies, and grawp wouldn't go too far without him either...not that i really like grawp.

Hagrid, Neville, Luna. These characters are widely beloved. It will be heartbreaking to see them die. That may be only me, though.

I think it is Snape. I may be wrong but I do think that JKR was going to have Voldemort kill him, but then changed her mind because he needed to help Harry in some way later. It would make sense for it to be Malfoy, but I don't think it will be.
