Yeah because Elizabeth's not an evil bitca (

to sherrilina). I think that it's mostly guilt verse love/care that was the reason she looked so sad in Tia's house, also a bit of shock at her own actions. And then Will looked at her, despite the betrayal, and was still willing to offer her help because he loves her more than himself, I have trouble believing that Jack cares about Elizabeth more than himself, though I suppose it could be argued that Jack came back for Elizabeth...ok focus.
I think that the attraction of Jack to Elizabeth makes prefect sense. It’s my guess that you can count the people who’ve successfully tricked Jack on one hand, and Elizabeth is the only women who has done that. He sees her as an equal. And Elizabeth’s attraction to Jack makes sense to. She wants freedom, that’s what Jack represents to her, and not just to her, the story as a whole, really.
The reason why I would never support this couple is best described by the scene where Elizabeth and Jack almost kiss, as Ted and Terry say, it’s about setting terms. Well it’s a pretty hot scene, Johnny Depp is so charismatic and sexy and Keira is on my list of women I’d go gay for, but it’s all about domination. That what I’d image their relationship being like, always trying to out do the other, never really letting their guard down to just be happy and build a lasting relationship.
Plus, it has to be said, Ted and Terry say in the commentary that
the compass never pointed to Jack, and actually was pointing to the chest the whole time.
I disagree that Will is still completely white, he successfully tricked Davy Jones into finding out were the key was. I don't think first movie Will would have been able to pull that off, it shows growth. And watch your writer's commentary for the first movie. Ted and Terry make the point that Will is the one and only "pirate movie pirate" in the first movie, someone who breaks the rules because the rules are wrong, instead of breaking them for their own gain. In short the romantic (in the literary sense of the word) pirate hero she’s dreamt of meeting. And it's been said that Will will have a darker edge to him in the next one. My guess this is in response to Elizabeth's actions. And the hat was supposed to be silly.
Elizabeth was never really sweet, demure, and naive nor helpless, even in the first movie. In the ship battle scene when Jack was on the Black Pearl, she comes up with plans that are equal to Barbossa’s, as said in the commentary. When Jack won't help her save Will, she gets him drunk, uses the rum to light a huge fire to signal her Dad and Norrington. When they won't go to save Will, she promises to marry Norrington to get to Will. In the final scene when Will's in the cave, she needs to get to him, she plans to rescue the pirate crew first to get their help, when they don't help her, she goes anyway. She help's Will fight off the undead pirates a way he couldn't quite do on his own. It's interesting to me that well Will plays the guy role, need to go and save my love, Elizabeth plays that same role in the second half after he's caught, need to go and save my love. That's another problem I have with J/E, it kind of makes the first movie pointless.
Elizabeth, as I said before, is a trickster. For a trickster to exist in a story she needs to have an oppressor, which for Elizabeth it's men who tell her what to do or not to do or who kept her from what she wants. Will has never told her want to do, or kept her from what she wants, Jack has. I'm again bring up the fact that Will was offering to go get Jack from "at world's end" even if it means him and Liz not being together anymore.
With Will she can be as independent as she would be with Jack, what she wants is freedom, there’s no way to doubt or argue against that. The question is what does she want independence from? The answer, I believe, is the patriarchal society of her father and Norrington. Will is a blacksmith, the point of marriage then was to unite men for political gain or money, this being from the world of her father. Marrying Will has no finical or political gain; she wanted to get married to him because she loved him.
And about the thing that she’s more interesting in sex, she said “have you already” it’s Will’s pants she wants in at that moment, not just any guy, so she has physical attraction for Will.
It's also hard for me to shallow that Jack is going to forgive Elizabeth easily for killing him. After all in the first movie he held the grudge against Barbossa for ten years.
About Norrington, I think Jack Davenport is hot in both movies, and he’s actually closer in age to Keira than Johnny. When the first movie was made Jack D was 29 years old.
Don't really have a least favorite part, I don't.
