QUOTE
He says he'd like another go at The Caretaker, if any producers are reading. Also at Falstaff, whom he played last year at the National, and Lear. And he has a message for JK Rowling (he plays Albus Dumbledore in the films of her Harry Potter books). "I die next year," he says. "I think I read it in the paper. It was such a shock. I thought, Jesus Christ. I'm sure if she reads this article, she might think, 'Ah, poor bloke. I'll put him in the seventh book as a ghost.' If she would kindly just put me in there."
From the interview posted on the main page, I am sorry to make yet another Gambon fuss. But really, read the books... Ghosts are wizards who are afraid to die, that is why they are ghosts. JK explained this when Harry wanted his Godfather to be with him still. Dumbledore was never afraid of death. He asked JK to put him in as a ghost... I don't know maybe it was a joke, teasing, but really this woman is writing a story so close to her heart, but oh she will change it just so he can get a paycheck in the 7th movie (yes I am joking)... I guess he does not know about the picture in the headmaster's office.
Gambon is a moron, He read his characters death in the paper....
(ronism: The paper, I ask you!)... I do not think they could have found a worse Dumbledore. They could have picked anyone, and I mean anyone better than Gambon, he talks like a filthy sailor (no offence to sailor's). But really these are kids and teenage books, this is one of the most loved series of books (movies).
Anyway, I know you guys might put this thread somewhere else. That is ok, I just did not see where it should go, since this is a new article on him, my goodness if the old guy would just stop giving interviews....

There are many threads about Gambon's Dumbledore, but maybe this one can stand on its own with a slight modification of title, referring to that interview? How about it, Mods?
It's almost unbelievable how embarrassing -- how painfully, excrutiatingly embarrassing Gambon is when he talks about Dumbledore. He firmly believes that he does not need to know a character to play it. He just says the lines and moves and acts as the director wants and that should be a perfect enough performance. He is actually proud of not knowing any more than is in his own script. But that attitude surely means that he should refrain from voicing any opinions on the character as well! Let him be the empty vessel then! Point him about like the highly sophisticated doll that he is, and don't allow him to "add his own touches" be they ever so professional, they can't have anything to do with the character because he doesn't know! Don't be fooled by his impressive career, directors -- the man knows nothing!
It's easy to see by my avatar what I would prefer, but I agree with the previous poster that almost anyone could have done a better job. I also blame Cuaron for setting a new standard of tattiness for a character that in JKR's books is always described as flamboyantly dressed and a little vain.

I'm going to put it in the news discussion forum RAB, as it relates to his recent interview. We already have' Michael Gambon as Dumbledore' threads in the movie forums, so we'll keep this one to talk about his latest comments.
When I read that particular line, I didn't really find it offensive, but I did have a chuckle. Gambon thinks DD wont have any part in book seven but I'm guessing he will via the portrait, not as a ghost, which as you pointed out RAB, DD would never aspire to.

grrr... I feel the same way RAB and Bumblebee. Any random HP fan knows more about Dumbledore than Gambon does. In the few sentences he spoke, he managed to blithly reveal his profound ignorance of the character he is supposed to play. Not that anyone who saw HP 4 could have doubted this. I can only shudder at the possibilities of UnDumbledore actions in the fifth movie. Perhaps he will next express to Harry that his greatest fear is death, knock out Ron's teeth to teach him a lesson, and hit LV with a Cruciatus curse.

Who is this guy?
Now I'm hoping that Dumbledore's portrait plays
no part in Book 7, just so that I won't have to sit in the theatre and watch it say "You're a moron, Harry" and "I want to be Minister of Magic". Sheesh.

Wow Ive only ever known Gambon through the Harry Potter 3 and 4 movies, but now, I dont want to know more about him, he seems like a self centered.. well you catch my drift, I dont even wanna see Dumbledore in the 5th an 6th movies now. Now I am ticked off.

this interview makes me mad not in the since of liking or disliking gambon as dumbledore but in the sense is that darn old mouth of his. He needs to keep it clean as the orginal poster posted. He needs to remember that kids all over the country look at these characters for real in a way. when they see gambon they will see dumbledore. Not to say he needs to stay in character for every interview its just kids will take him seriously because they see dumbledore. I remember a recent interview with Johnny Depp, you can tell his daughter anything you want about what her dad does for a living but she will tell you he's a pirate. he's yet to persuaden her otherwise. i guess what im saying is that putting aside our feelings on how he plays the character, he's a bigger role model than he thinks. He's Dumbledore plain and simple.

I never really liked Gambon in the Harry Potter films and reading this just makes me dislike him even more.He seems really selfish and he read he was going to die in the paper!!!Does he know anything about his character.

I wouldn't obsess over the way the characters were in the books either, if I was one of the actors. What if you had a favorite part, that you felt really defined your charcter and the film people completely cut that scene out?
This guy is getting paid to act according to a director and a script. He's not getting paid to interpret the books. Give him a break.
Tom Felton doesn't read the books, either, and no one jumping down his throat.

I agree somewhat with you Die Zimtzicke... I wish he would get a better wardrobe but i like his personality, just wiht a few minor tweaks. First, Stop appearing weak.. second dont throttle harry, haha. Anyway I think Michael Gambon is good, I love his voice.... i think if if we had gambon voices... and a mix of the pysiques of Harris and Gmabon... with Harris's attitude.... then we would have the perfect Dumbledore.... hopefully after listening to all of us complain about him, JKR or someone will stand up and portray one of the most important characters properly

thing thing that gets me angry about Michael Gambon is he cant act Dumbledore...in GoF he basicly attcks harry while asking if he put his name in the GoF...Dumbledore is calm and how he is telling harry that everytime he gets close to an answer it slips away and he sits on the ground like a lost kid....i hate it! ahhh sorry i dont mine the guys acting i other movies but i wish he would have reseached his charactor like all the other actors did!

Again, Gambon is being paid to do what it says in the script. This is a job to him, not a religion. We should go holler at the script writer and the director, not him.
I wouldn't read the books either, if I acted in them. Again, as I said earlier, what if I got all psyched up to play a favorite scene, and they cut it out? I'll bet Rupert is at least a little disappointed he' s not going to be able to get on the broom in OotP, but they cut the Quidditch, so that's that.

Well, I'm still on the subject of Dumbledore. Gambon is a disgrace in the role. I have only recently discovered that he never bothered to read the books, and for a man who is supposedly such a respected actor, I find this amazingly unprofessional. But you're right, we should be telling the director how we feel - only problem is, directors don't read fansites. The only way that we will be able to save the 6th movie from a similar disaster (It's probably already too late for the 5th), is for as many people as possible to write to David Heyman as producer, to ask that Gambon be directed to interpret the role as JK wrote it. These guys are paid enough, Gambon can read a few books and make the effort!
I see that the fight scenes in the 5th movie were rewritten a few times during filming, as they couldn't decide how Gambon should play it - let's just hope that someone has stopped him just doing his own thing with our Dumbledore.

Gambon was NEVER doing his own thing. He was doing what the script called for and the director asked for. That's what acting IS.

Die Z- You are RIGHT. He is just doing his job. But his job is more than acting. He is acting as DUMBLEDORE. And he knows nothing about him, so hence he is doing wrong by us "religious" people lol.

I wll admit that I dont like Gambon as dumbledore. But his job as an actor is in the script and what his directors tell him to do, as Die Z has said before. The blame lies soley on the heads of the director, and the producers. You can take a great actor, put him with poor management, and the performance will be ****, just as what happened in HP3 and HP4. Maybe we will get lucky and have some good stuff come from him. Its not Gambons fault. Even if her perfectly emobodied Dumbledore, the director could still cut, and re do it, until he does it like he wants him to.

I thought all good actors researched their roles. If he reasearched his role he would have read the books.I personlly don't think he portrays Dumbledore how i envision him in the books. As for the portrait,Harry needs DD so the portrait is there to help him....my thoughts.

I just don't know why Gambon gets all of the flak. The script writer wrote the script, Jo Rowling approved the script and says she loves the film, and the director directed the actors, but it seems like all anyone wants to do is blame Gambon for doing what he was hired to do.
If you were playing Abraham Lincoln would you have to read every biography ever written about him to do your part?

Another fair point that. I would read the script, and do as my directors asked

Another reason. Who does he think he is, honestly? I mean, I am not very happy with these comments. Asking Jo to take the character of Dumbledore and fowl it up to suit his own personal needs. Wants the part for more money, I believe. That just isn't right.
I say this with all seriousness: I don't think he deserves to play the part of Dumbledore, whether it is in a small community RPG or the big movies XD. And I agree with the first post of this thread and some of its comments.

I wish this guy was british so he could play the darn role.
http://imdb.com/gallery/ss/0489270/Ss/0489...y=Bell,%20TobinThat's not a particularly good picture, but his eyes are blue and his nose is crooked.
And yes, if any of you have seen the American movie 'Saw' he's in it, and his character is entirely different than that of Dumbledore's, but his mannerisms and the way he looks are perfect. Just stick a nice long, white beard on him.
I'm so dissapointed with Gambon's performance, I know it's mostly the director's fault indeed. But I'm so desperate for a new Dumbledore, he's my favorite, and we need someone to do him justice. Snape is great, too; but they already have the perfect actor for Snape.
Gambon doesn't even
look the part.

I`ve already said in some thread about gambon that i don`t deny that he`s a great actor. I have to contradict myself! Great actors search and research about their character! They go deep on the psihology and thinking of the character! They just can`t learn some lines written in the script and then throw them on screen! You just can! I mean...reading about dumbledore`s death in the newspaper???????????? i am sorry to say but what kind of actor is that??? I hardly could belive when i read the interview gosh!
