The British weather is always a topic of conversation and as all of you in the UK know it's very hot here at the momment. According to my car it's 36 degrees C phew!
As much as I like warm weather the Uk is not equiped for it, e.g. No air con in homes so you can't get to sleep at night.
The kids are miserable, it makes you tired and no end of other things that make you grumpy.
Anyway I was just wandering, that since people from all around the globe use this site what's the weather doing where you are?
Does the weather stop you doing anything (british trains can't run if we have the wrong sort of snow)?
Do you like the rain?
Do you worship the sun?
As I said I was just wandering

I grew up in southern California, where there wasn't much difference between the seasons, then lived for a time in Utah where it's hot and dry in the summer and always snows in the winter. Now I'm living in North Carolina where it's hot and humid in the summer and gets cold but rarely snows in the winter.
A year and a half ago we were hit by an unexpected snow storm here in North Carolina. It snowed for a few hours and produced several inches, not a ton of snow by any means, but the whole city shut down. Kids were let out of school, businesses shut down, and everyone rushed to their cars so they could sit in traffic for several hours. A friend of mine lives half an hour to the north, but that day it took him over 11 hours to get home! Having just lived in Utah, I was shocked to see this sort of thing happen, but since they're not used to getting snow here, people aren't used to driving in the snow, and they weren't able to mobilize any sort of snow plows or salt trucks before the traffic ground to a halt.
Currently, the weather here is 96 F (about 36 F) and not too humid, but weather.com says it feels like 103 F (over 39 C). Tropical storm Beryl is currently brewing off the coast here.

I have been in Arizona most of my life and it always gets extremely hot and humid during the summer's. i truly hate it and i wish that we would stop getting highs of 111 degrees or higher. bleh!!! i love it though when it's winter time because it is always so cold and rather better than the hot, killing heat.
any other time during the year is always nice and a definite difference from the summer. spring, we get breezes and whatnot, fall is getting cooler and getting closer to christmas and whatnot, and winter in my opinion is the best season of the year because if we have a super hot summer then that means we'll have a freezing cold winter which is fantastic. for some reason i have always been better and more partial to the winter. funny though because i was born a spring baby. anyway i am going to be soooo happy when summer is over but i think next year my be even worse for high temperatures! ughhh!!

etphonehome i also live in the UK but i live in north-east Scotland so it's not as hot here as it is down in England

It's only about 26 degrees C here, which i have to admit is hot for Scotland! It's too hot to run about so i think i'll just sit outside eating an ice cream! However i've heard that it's going to rain at the weekend so i better make the most of the sunshine.

HA! Hahahah!
When I saw this topic, there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that a Brit had started it! Quaint nation, you!

I absolutely love how the weather is a constant topic of conversation in the UK. It really is a factor to be considered there, what with the way in which it can change so quickly sometimes, or stay the same for weeks.
I was in London, the Cotswolds and the Lake Districts in the past four weeks, and I was praying for rain after a while, because I would have felt enormously cheated if I had gone to England and it hadn't rained. Luckily, Wimbledon started

, so I experienced the odd shower or two.
For the rest the weather was positively tropical - I couldn't have hoped for better.
It's winter here in South Africa now, and I'm only slowly becoming accustomed to the slightly colder temperatures - not too much colder, just nigglingly chilly.

well i live in california, and really its not bad weather. hehe this summer is probably one of the hottest summers, but its only reached about 90 degrees F which is probably about 33 degrees C. i love the weather here, but i wish it would snow lightly just
once. we never had a light snow fall where i live, but i would like to experience just one. and it doesnt rain that much, but i wish it did (mainly so that i wont have to do P.E.

haha).
i love cold weather better than hot. ha, id rather freeze outside rather than walking around from class to class in hot weather. but i bet in the philipines (sp?) and southern mexico its hotter, much hotter. i want to go to chicago though. its called the "windy city" and i like windy so id probably visit there one day and check out the weather.

Capricorn, you know us Brits..That was exactly what I was thinking..we always talk about the weather and it controls so much of what we do.
It makes or breaks a good holiday...today it's a nice sunny 26, ideal for being on a beach somewhere and yet the long range forecast for when I go on holiday is a freezing 13..that's only 10 days from now..typical.
My niece was supposed to be getting married in mexico last November but hurricane wilma or rita knocked the wedding hotel down! Still she eventually got wed in Cornwall Uk...in February..on the beach brrrr!!

Fall_out_girl you wish it would snow? You should come to Ballater. It shows regularly every winter, which usually means a few days off school.

Haha. A few years ago it snowed for
5 days non-stop. There was about 4 foot of snow.

It was great.
Yesterday it was 27 degrees C with brilliant sunshine. Today it's dull and cloudy and it's only about 20 degrees C

Well that's Scottish weather for you. One minute it's sunny, the next minute it's raining. Anyway in our exciting

village of Ballater
everyone talks about the weather. You see people passing each other in the street saying things like "lovely day" and "beautiful weather"- it's weird

I have to say i hate the British weather....
Not because it always rains but because in the Summer, it gets hot (it's almost 100 fahrenheit yesterday), and i don't like it that hot. In autumn it gets windnd grey, so it's my favourite season weather wise. In Winter i's not cold, it's just...dull. In spring it's getting warmer, but it's still nt particularily warm...I'm just hard to please!
Plus nothing eventful happens in the weather, there is rarely a random snow storm, or electric storm or even a completely random shower of rain.
QUOTE

Laurette, that's so true....Why does it always rain as soon as Wimbledon starts??? Luckily it didn't rain while i was there this year, but a couple of years ago it poured about 3:00 and we had to sit in the school minibus, waiting for it to stop...
I think that when i'm in New York, the weather is too humid, but i like the unpredictability of living by the sea, and it never gets to hot, but is nice and windy aswell, and rains a fare bit... I'm much more of a rain and wind guy, than sun and heat!

I live in Maryland, really close to D.C.
In DC during the summer it is always hot, humid, and abosolutely no breeze. It's like living in a jar. Not to mention all the storms. A few weeks ago we had rain and thunderstorms non stop for 5 days or something. If it had been snow, there would have been 77 inches! Now we are supposed to have storms basicallt everyday this week. On monday the temperture was 100 F, but it felt like 105 F.
Did I mention hurricanes? Sometimes, during the summer or fall, we get a hurricane. A few years ago we got Hurricane Isabel, and we lost our power for a week, and didn't have school for 3 days. we stayed over at my grandmother's house because they had power and air conditioning.
During the winter we get snow every once in a while. always about 3 inches or so. But one year we got 2 feet and we got to miss a whole week of school. That was fun.
We have wacky weather here in DC.

I've heard that in the UK it's going to get really hot again next week

I hate thunderstorms- not that we get them often in the North-East Scotland. We had a really big one(for us anyway) last year which lasted for about half the night! I hated it. It's much worse where i live in Ballater because it's in a valley so the rumbles echo really badly.

One of the best things about living in the Miami, is that it's hot year-round.

So people are quite use to the heat here. Because of this, most people have AC in their house. And it doesn't get too hot here in the summer, compared to DC for example, but that is becuase during the summer it rains here a lot. The rain as we know helps lower the temperature. So normally we get upper 80's and lower 90's. But it's still hot and totally annoying with the heat index making it feel like 100's!
I just wish it was winter all year round. I can stand the cold, but not the heat.

Both the main seasons (Summer and Winter, in my opinion) are just feeble extremes. Because we have such a temperate climate, we get a fairly hot summer and fairly cold winter. We get a fairly warm and fairly showery spring, and a fairly rainy and fairly cold Autumn. It's just boring...and dosn't suit me as i said above....

Wow, a topic about weather, just what I needed. I'm in St. Louis, Missouri, and today is supposed to be the hottest day of the year, around 105, though it'd feel like 120 because it's really humid.
Yesterday evening was incredible though. It was sunny around 6:30 p.m., but once it got 7:00, it was as though the sky had changed in one second. There was a whole bunch of gusty wind that was, I think, about 90 mph, and we had newspapers flying all over our yard. We lost our power too, and it seemed like everyone in the city had. Our little county is one of the luckiest, since we're one of the few with the power, and air conditioning, so I have no idea how hot it actually is outside...but I feel sorry for the people who have to bear the heat.

It's been incredibly hot here in Chicago. Monday it got above 90, but the humidity made it feel like it was 105. It's been in the high 80s all this week. Jul 21 2006, 10:47 AM
During a hot spell, urban areas are always a few degrees hotter than rural areas. I saw an infrared chart yesterday from a satellite image and it showed the London area as a big red blob. It can't be very pleasant.
Jack Vance wrote a science fiction story in which the inhabitants of a very hot planet lived under large fountains of water curtaining themselves off from the heat. Such a water curtain would be wonderful right now, because here in The Netherlands we're currently having a "heat wave" (temperatures consistently above 26 Celsius (79 Fahrenheit) and three of the past five days hotter than 30C (86F). The absence of rain is also very unusual.
My elderly friend has been debilitated by this heat. Heat waves are so unusual here that there aren't national rules for having air conditioning in nursing homes, but there is talk of changing that before any senior citizens are killed for want of protection. There have been other deaths -- there is an international walking event each year (four consecutive days of walking a set long distance) and it was cancelled yesterday because two walkers died from the heat. (see the
official webpage of this event for more information).

It's frightening how extremes in weather can affect the elderly. A few years back I went to Malta on holiday. While we were on the plane the captain announced that the country had been experiencing some of the highest temperatures on record. We didn't realise how hot it was (we landed at night) until the next day. We wnt to the pool and the soles of our shoes were melting onto the ground. We subsequently found out that a lot of the Maltese elderly had been severley affected, there had been a high number of strokes, heart attacks and fatalities. The average daytime temperature was 45C.

Yeah, well these past few weeks in the UK have been heat waves, they have been boiling hot. I prefer it warm, not scorching. And then I prefer the weather to be cold, icy, and heavily snowing in winter. There is nothing I love more than gone out and had a snowball fight or sledging and then come back and sitting by the fire, drying our clothes and drinking a nice big cup of hot chocolate. I love the weather being nice and showy. I am not a big fan of sun. Cremate me God, no thankyou. Nope.

Ofcourse being September, we in the UK are now getting inundated with Crane Flies (Daddy Longlegs). I must throw about 20 out a night (some lose there legs in transit) and the spiders are out en masse...big hairy ones.
Well I'm going to make the most of this 'Indian Summer' and sit outside...it is forecast to rain tomorrow!
Hope the weather is grand wherever you may be!

When all else fails and you've nothing else to talk about (especially if your a Brit) why not talk about the weather.
It's been a while since anyone posted here (me) so I thought that in the light of the changing season and Londons Tornado that made a few people homeless, this topic could be woken up. Hence the double post!
What's the weather doing where you are?
Are you snowed in? Are you fed up with the constant wind and rain..I know I am?
Or perhaps you live down under and you're planning a Christmas day Bar-B on the beach. Lucky you! Although I still think of Christmas and snow in the same sentence not Christmas and Sand!!

Okay so we have a saying in Chicago. If you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes, and it will change.
So November was balmy with weather in the 60's (F), and then it dropped to around 35 F for a week, then it snowed on Dec 1st 12 inches in some places, now it's 50F again, and all the snow has melted, and everything's got that dingy gray slushy look. The plants are so confused, I saw a couple of bulbs starting to come up in the back yard, and I know they are going to freeze their patutties off in January and February.
My favorite was back in the mid 90's when it was 70F on February 17th, and then a week later it snowed a half a foot.
