whilst reading this, I was really all for letters (and I am almost sure that bribery may work - think she like chocolates? - not that VTM needs it!), as I can't believe that she could have stumbled accross Veritaserum and not noted how wonderful it is with a medal (especially when websites that aren't (in my humble opinion) even close to the high stadard of this site has recieved one, certain websites that may coincidentely rhyme quite well with Nugglemet- how can something with a 'wall of shame' have recieved an award and this wonderfully (acurate) infomative and well-thoughout out site not have .

All I can really think of is that she may not of noticed us *jumps up and down and waves arms frantically* and that is why this site isn't getting the pat on the head it deserves.

I mean if even Harry Potter himself (well Daniel) remembered Matthew and Veritaserum then you must be doing something right

So perhaps if Verisarum happened to jump out at her once in a while (through letters and such) she may take a look and realise how good it is. She is obviously very intelligent and funny - so I can't see how this site wouldn't appeal to her

Unless of course she stumbles across this particular thread, and then our dastardly and cunning plan may be foiled

but how to make her notice?, I personally like the letter idea, but do agree that thousands of letters all at one could put her off (and imagine the time it would take to read, she should be writing ) and understand the concerns about bragging - its a tricky one isn't it *scratches head*

Sorry I haven't come up with any ideas yet, I'm hopeless with them, if it were upto me we'd all be in superman (or maybe wizarding) fancy dress outfits at the top of tall buildings fighting for 'veritaserum for justice'

I do think that so many people are trying to come up with ideas of promoting the site is wonderful and just emphases how much we all love it

So I take it from the above posts, that I am OK to do the sneaky awful mum thing, and write to JKR in the guise of my 9 year old? Well not too awful, I have put in things that she really does want to say but interspersed with a lot of what I want to say!! My letter needs to be fine tuned, and when I've done it I'll post it here so you can read it!

Hi everyone. I just looked on here for the first time and read all that bit about sending letters to JKR and I think it's a great idea to try to get VTM noticed a bit more. I was actually really annoyed when I went onto the Fan Sites page on her website and couldn't find VTM anywhere on there, and I haven't even been around here that long. And another thing that annoys me is the fact that MuggleNet is on there... I mean the other sites aren't bad, but MuggleNet just annoys me. I went on there to find out some stuff and it took me ages to get onto it (although, when I got there, their info was pretty good). I prefer this site, but I do think there could maybe be a couple more pages of just information rather than everyones theories in each thread. I don't know... I'm not really sure if there's space for that. Just an idea. Anyway, I'm all for the letter idea and I'd be happy to send one (is it weird for a 14 year old to write a fan letter?) if I knew where to send it to!

Okay, I'm just trying to decide what exactly to put in my letter. If anyone could PM me with some ideas that would be great because I don't want to sound too pushy... Go on this site, it's the best! I think the best idea would be to hand write it and include lots of stuff about the books and everything before going on about VTM because then it sounds just like an honest fan letter raher than a plan to get her to look at the site... Tell me if you think this is a good idea. Also, I was just wondering if I should maybe write it as my younger sister and make it say that I told her all this stuff that I got from this site. Or would that be really sneaky and wrong?

I have written my letter....ok my daughters letter, and I've been totally honest by letting her actually write it. I've just told her what to say!!! Yeah, I suppose you're right... but if my sister wrote it herself it would probably be full of spelling mistakes and really bad handwriting. And she doesn't even like the Harry Potter books that much, well, I don't think she does... so far she's read the first two and watched all the films and enjoyed them but she's not exactly crazy about it. If I wrote the letter myself if might not be too bad, I just thought it might sound a bit weird being 14 years old so maybe if I didn't say my age... I don't know. Okay, I'll write it myself, it's best to be honest because we're already doing this to get her on the site.

I think fourteen is a great age to be a fan of any author and their writings. I wish I had been as interested at your age. I wouldn't worry about spelling mistakes or whether or not it is hand written. Issie has had to word process hers as she has learning difficulties and also because she likes the fact that she can spell check!!

As long as the letter contains genuine sentiments, I don't think that it matters one jot that the writer has shoddy spelling or is at an age that they should know better!!

Oh, I feel really mean saying all that stuff about it being a bad letter if my sister wrote it. I just thought it might be taken more seriously if it was a genuine fan letter that hardly mentions VTM at all, only in a couple of sentences. Hmm... I take back everything I just said because what you just said about it not mattering about spelling and stuff was really good and I was being stupid to say that it did matter. I'd say the best, most honest and therefore most effective angle would be to write about your love for Harry Potter, and if that includes Vtm - say so. Like Elaine's daughter's letter. Don't write it in INVAID-mode, because she'll definitely pick up on it, and we aren't extremists who want her here just to say that she was here. We want her here, because Vtm is our Harry Potter online home, and we'd love for her to give it recognition for that.

Think carefully about why you are writing to her. I'd say the letter should be a fan letter - about Harry Potter. She doesn't want updates about which other site is cool - the letters she'll really appreciate are the ones that tell of an honest love for Harry Potter, and whatever goes with that. That's where Vtm should come in!

Golden Phoenix, if you want to write, don't make your sister do it - I bet you won't be older than her average fan, so rather write it yourself and be completely honest. (I just said I'd let my brother (who is 15) do it because he's just as big a fan as I am, and a letter from a staff member would be a bit suspicious. )

One sentence about Vtm should do it, like Elaine is doing. If she gets 10 letters in a space of a few months which all mention Vtm in passing, she'd undoubtedly take notice. Don't plug the site more than would be normal for a regular fan letter - perhaps mention your favourite part of the site, and that should do the trick. Remember, we believe that if she comes here and pokes around, she'll realise for herself that it's an awesome place. We don't have to tell her that - she won't be able to miss it.

(USA) im 19 and i have been in total love with harry potter ever since my grandma bought me book one. i think i was like 14 mabye...idk how old i was but i do know that i read it in 5 hours. straight through. and ever since then i have never missed a book release, movie premeir( i spelled that wrong didnt i ), promotional party in my area. nothing. i go, do , and see it all. besides that my room looks like a harry potter shrine. people think its creepy actually

i absoultely love this site. its easy to use, its friendly, you get tons of insight on topics and questions, if you dont understand something you have a bazillion people you can talk to and get things straight, its not to flashy and gaudy, you dont get nailed with 876583 pop ups when you come one, i have never gotten innacurate information on the home page.

just a little tid~bit though

the letters shouldnt be like 5 pages long. get your point across, dont short hand it by any means, but try to keep it to at least one page. i have the book muggles and magic and there is a whole chapter in the book dedicated to writing to jo and the format that the letters should follow. it says to keep the letters short and sweet. dont sound like a obsessed fan who eat sleeps and breaths harry potter because that is a turn off to authors. the point of writing is not the create a cult but to get people reading and to love what they read. to create a life long fan of your works.

also..throw in a index card in the envelope. you might just get lucky with a autograph.

one more thing. go out and get fantastic beasts and where to find them and quiddich through the ages. they come in a nifty little box set and all the proceedes go to comic relief, a huge charity. plus they are awesome little books. they have a lot of information in them. things that help answer question and things in the book that you would never think to question . like crookshanks for example. i absolutely love them...

I found VTM because i was googling random Harry Potter stuff, to find out anything new, and this website kept popping up, so i went on and i've found lots of neat stuff. I like the fanfictions, (In there, i'm known as Luna (Loony) Lovegood.) and i like, where else? The forums!

My favourite characters are Luna (Bcause she's insane and a compleat crack up) and Ginny (She has a fierce personality and loves joking around and having a good laugh).

I really believe this website needs more credit, because there's so much great stuff on here, but more people need to know about it. I think getting VTM on JKR's best fansite award is a great idea and thanks to The silver Unspeakable, I think writing letters to JKR is a great idea-only we can't say anything too obvious. Well, as well as you great forumers may WANT to know, I was enthralled by the Harry Potter series. I absolutely love Severus Snape, Lord Voldemort, and Harry Potter's character and mannerism. It has that great deal of a novel would have, even better a saga. This series proved to be paramount and cordial to the concept of a [ Hero-Anti Hero-Villian ] storyline. I find the series rather interesting and a great read all the way. So, after all the time I've used to read and read and read the series over and over again, trying to find out if my keen eye for details is really a concept, well, it proved me wrong. Which led me to this great site.

I only joined Veritaserum on November 20th this year, and I am totally in love with it!

It's great, because it's a place to let your voice be heard without people peeing all over your ideas; instead you get constructive criticism about your views, about why they are good, or why they might not work out. Everyone is so friendly, and enjoys seeing what everyone else has to say, and it's all because we LOVE HP! I really enjoy reading HP, it's part of the reason I love reading so much all together! It just makes you want to read on and on, it's so climatic!
Anyway, carrying on:
Other reasons why I love Veritaserum so much, is because it's rules are appropriate for everyone, which we can all agree with; it has a really good layout that can appeal to all ages; it has practically everything about HP, that there is to talk about; oh what can I say? I love everything about it! It's just brilliant in general!

I first discovered VTM while searching for Harry Potter information (I can't remember exactly what time it was, but I know it was about the newest book) and it sparked my interest. Firstly was the whole layout (when I found it, the Society for the Protection of Ingenious Muddy footprints wasn't started, as Snuffles was still roaming the forums). It instantly reminded me of the Marauders' Map (which, I believe, was the intention).

It also creates a healthy environment that HP fans of ALL ages can enjoy. We don't have to worry about cursing or sexual content, which makes it loads better than quite a few other sites.

I think any and every Harry Potter fan with any sort of Internet access should be introduced to VTM. It's the best place on the web to discuss HP and I love it sooooo much!

Awesome and simple idea Moon! I've tried to do it with my sister a couple months ago ... you know she's among the average group of Harry Potter fans - she read the books at least once. She did join the forums and got her news from the main site. But unfortunately her love for the series died just as quickly as it had come.

But I still like the idea of talking to others "off-vtm." It's worth a shot if anything and I think it could raise us a couple hundred if everyone participated. Don't push them to join, so to speak. We don't want them to think VTM is pigheaded!

hi all, I'm Gen, or SL28. I'm 12, and in 7th grade, in Minnesota. I have been into HP since I could read them in 2nd grade. I found out about Veritaserum from my friend, Mary Alyce (Prodfoot). At first I was only here for the fan-fics (which are awsome by the way. I have my own, but no one replies ) but now I read theorys, and ocasionaly post my own. I love how everyone is so friendly here, and helpful.


I tried to get my sister to join, and she did, but i don't think she ever goes on. I also got my cousin and my friend to join, but none of them are very active. But I still love VTM.

So. What I like about VTM. Well, as you can see by my post count, I'm a fairly new member, and this site is far from the only site I visit--most of the others are HP roleplaying sites, and Gaia--but I like VTM because of its rational debates, and interesting theories, many of which caused me to race back into the books and formulate my own theories about the theories. And yeah, in case you haven't noticed by now, I am something of a rambler, just a forewarning. But yeah, I like the way this site flows, and its layout is also a major plus. SO yeah. *nodnod*

I think everything is kinda i guess perfect, with all the rules and everything! I think the rules are pretty fair too.So. What I like about VTM (again). Well, as you can see by my post count, i guess you could say im a new member. But like nobody writes to me so its kinda sad but thats life you say!LOL! Back to the point... what i like about VTM is of its rational debates, and interesting theories, many of which caused me to race back into the books and formulate my own theories about the stuff. And yeah, in case you haven't noticed by now, I am something of a weirdo and a rambler (sometimes i get really annoying well ya my friends think that im crazy and really funnybut thats just them), just a warning. LOL! Like yah, I like the way this site flow. Its like the best website eva! Well everybody knows that!! See ya later alligator! Thats lame i know still!LOL!

Um... I have no idea what to say for introduction... I have read the series about 8 times now, oh and I'm a figure skater and I have a compition coming up in February and I am doing my routine to hedwigs theme from sorcerers stone... I guess thats about it, I have posted more other places but I can't remember what I wrote... oh well...
I have no idea how I came to this site but I have been checking it for 2 years now and just joined a few weeks ago, I love this site!! I have already told a ton of people about it and about 10 came back to me and said that they joined!!
