I may actually cry when I reach the end of the series. But then again, I'll keep on re-reading them of course. i 'spose it'll be the end of a legacy. I here by now vow to pass them on to my children and their children ect.I think it will be a bit like The beatles and go on for ages
I think at one point I wanted to pass them on so much that they would eventually go in some museum in toykio or something. I dont think they will because of all the coffee stains and stuff.
But all this begs the question: what will I spend my evenings reading. And mornings. And daytime for that matter???...
aznd what website will be my homepage???...

GOSH! 1 MORE BOOK AND 3 MORE MOVIES TO GO.. * shakes head violently* but harry potter is a timeless classic. i will introduce it to my younger cousins when they gets older, i will still continue to visit this website, i will re-read and shares harry grief and happiness, the harry potter series will be never be forgotten... and i will still look up to other series of books during the period of life after hp.

Wow. That is all I can say. . it is very sad that the series is coming to an end. . . I have no doubts that I will be bawling for days when I finish the last book. . .

. at least I will be with my best friend who is also Harry Potter obsessed.
Nevertheless, although there will be no further novels, no one can stop us from worshipping the series and passing it down to our children! We can continue to read the books to our hearts' content and although we will not be able to make predictions regarding the books, we can discuss our favourite aspects of the novels, what we would have liked to happen, we can watch the films and we can still ship.
The magic of JK's storytelling and imagination will never end, no matter how old the series becomes! All we have to do is open a Harry Potter book and escape with to Hogwarts and we will feel at home. The magic will never leave us and our love for the series will be with us forever.
People don't forget classics

.
At least our children will not have to wait in anticipation for the next instalment!
I am going to name my daughter Hermione or my son Harry

.
HARRY POTTER FOREVER!!

I do believe that life after HP will continue on just as it is now. I mean, take into reference Star Wars. Although all the movies have been made, the fans have created an Expanded Universe (EU) to continue the legacy of its characters. The fans of HP will be just the same; creating some kind of 'eu' to tell the lives of the characters after Hogwarts.

Initially life after the seventh book will be hard. I think I would re-read the entire series once, just to get a complete picture of the series in sequence. However, I think JK will write more short stories about HP or the HP world for charity. At least I hope she will.

I agree with you,7134407,it will be really hard without HP.I mean we won't have the suspense like,OMG what's going to happen in the next book??.And most importantly what would we be doing in veritaserum after the books come out??.Maybe we would be discussing about the next movie..*sighs*,I wish JKR continues to write HP..

Ooh, I love that idea!

I have to admit, I have had my doubts as to whether or not the fandom will survive for very long beyond the release of the last book, but having seen so many varied and interesting discussions spinning off from the tiniest detail in the books, I have no doubt that the fans will keep HP alive for many years to come yet

There are always going to be new generations discovering the books too, wanting somewhere to come and discuss them. And it's very true about Star Wars - there's no doubt that even before the prequels were announced, there was a huge cult following on the internet, just from the films and a couple of spin-off series.
Yeah, I'm sure that the fandom will survive

Even if JKR kills Harry off (which I have a horrible feeling she might do) people will still want to talk about the future of the other characters.

The other night, I was thinking. What if all the Harry Potter fans got together and carried on the series?
Perhaps, one person starts off with a basic plot, and then members are selected to write chapters, and each member submits their chapter. At the end, we get a book, which could be put up as a .PDF for free download.

I really do not want to think what life would be after all the HP books are out. But like a couple of people said there are new generations coming and I know for sure that when I have kids I will certainly read them HP and they will probably love the series as much as I do now. I think HP will become like a classic that once in a while you like to go back and just read those good old books you use to read just to remind you of good times.

I don't know if anyone has already said this..if they have "sorry"
But I think they should do a tv series about life after everything (even if Harry dies)
but only after the last movie comes out cuz it would be a little weird watching a tv series about "life after everything" while theres still movies coming out based on the 6th and 7th books....dose that make sense?
but if they did make a tv series, my question is.....would it be with live people or would they make it into a cartoon or CGI?

Wow....I think i'd reread the series. Then I'd go online here and tlak about how it's all over with everyone else. And then I'd realise that maybe it's nota ll over and that our community will live on (i hope). I am defently probably going to cry. It's going to be so sad. There'll be nothing new. I never took a big liking towards fanfiction either. Oh well I'll have the movie to look foward to for a while. Now I'm finding myself thinking that I wouldn't mind it if they delayed the Seventh book to not come out until 2008. *sigh* All I know is I'm going to need alot of support from my fellow HP friends.

If there were ever a TV series i'd watch it even if it was really sucky.

Becuase for charity she wrote all those books on magical creatures and stuff (red nose day). *Pretty please*

Gee a_l, I'll guess I'll have to disagree with your statement that "fan fics aren't real and everyones making them up based on nothing".
I thought Gregory Maguire's Wicked was far more interesting than the original Wizard of Oz. Susan Kay's Phatom is a much more enjoyable read than Leroux's Phantom of the Opera. Both of the bad guys in those novels, Elphaba and Erik respectively, became more real, more beliveable in the contemporary novels than in the originals.
Do I believe that someone other than JKR could fill in the pre-Harry History better than she could? Yeah, I do. There are a lot of talented people with some very clever ideas writing HP fan fics right now, and their treatment of characters such as Snape, Lily, James, Sirius, Remus, and the rest of the lot, is a lot richer than what's been developed for them in the HP novels. But then again JKR is writing principally about Harry, not everyone else. (Personally, I like my treatment of Tom Riddle best, but that's just me.) I think it would be a shame if someone else couldn't write about the other characters. So I don't agree that we should all be sued either.

To think of HP ending makes me want to cry! My whole life has been ABOUT it, I love it so much! It will be so sad to say goodbye. Hopefully it'll be a very resolved ending so it won't be as hard to not be excited for a next book.
As Moon said, I reckon JK will continue writing fabulous books. Obviously, I doubt they will ever be as good as HP, but I will still obsess over everything she writes!
And just remember everyone, the HP books may end, but they will always live in our hearts! Always!

Feb 8 2007, 11:21 PM
I have a feeling that when it ends, there will still be some unanswered questions. So for a while people will be sending Rowling some emails or letters wondering about small things that may not have been cleared up, or percieved inacuracies. Maybe HPL will help to clear these up.
After some years we'll be digging through a box and come upon the books again and read them all again, then pass them onto our younger relatives so they can love what we used to (or still would at that point) love.

The series of HP may end with Deathly Hallows but I don't feel that it will ever end as long as we hold him in our hearts and pass him on to future generations i plan to read the books to my children i have my first one due shortly after DH is released so my children may never know the anticipation of waiting for the next HP book to come out but maybe just maybe they will enjoy the books as much as I have and still do. I truely hope that the fan sites never die but in some way I fear it is inevitable yes they will last till the movies are all out on DVD but then after that we will all run out of things to say and sadly even run out of ideas for fanfics it will be a sad day when we log in and find a ghost town here on the forums but it is probably going to happen someday and we will just have to suck it up and deal with it we will all have grown up and be more mature then we are know and i know some of us older readers will take this a little beter then some of our younger HP fans will because we have seen this before and have learned to deal with this. I hope that we can help out our young friends when this all ends and help them deal with this.

Thinking about that HP will finally come to an end makes me sad, because I spend most of my time here on these forums to read fanfics, discuss about the next book, the relation ships between the characters and all,and now when I think it will all end after the 7th book it's really hard to believe it.I know I'm really crazy about it because me and my friend talk about HP most of the time and I love being called a 'HP freak' by my friends when they get annoyed by me talking about HP all the time, lol.
Well,I guess all we can do is pass this HP love to our generations and make them the 'Hp freaks',but I guess it all won't be the same, would it?Because they wouldn't be waiting for the next book to come out or movie incase, they would just read and find out, instead of being curious like us to know what's going to happen next and create stories of our own.And the Fanfic section would be empty, the forums deserted, the sites not updated till last year...oh my god..,lol...I know I'm being crazy, but after all this I think J K Rowling might right some new series? But do you think they would be as good as HP series?I think the HP series are popular partly because of the movies, because reading the book and then looking at the movie makes it all so real, doesn't it?...well,I guess this is life and us,Pottheads

Yikes, I don't even want to think about it.
I've been filled with dread. I just can't imagine life without the further adventures of Harry and the rest. I'm hoping that everything will be tied up nice and neatly at the end. I don't even want to speculate about who's going to die, because I've been so totally wrong on the last two books.
It's hard for me to imagine life without a new HP book to look forwrd to, but then remember that I lived for so many years without knowing about the whole HP phenomenon! This will only be my third book launch, and I love the anticipation of Release Day! To think I'll never experience this again! I'm struck occasionally with waves of melancholia over the end of the series.
I like JKR wo very much as a writer that I will eagerly anticipate her future work.
I really hate to bring it up, but the first thing I thought of when I was reading these posts was Douglas Adams. I really enjoyed the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. When he ventured into the detective genre (Dirk Gently, Holistic Detective), I thought I'd be equally enamored with them. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I should revisit that book, but I remember I couldn't even finish it. And now Douglas Adams is dead.
I've always said I think JKR has a lot of good books still in her. I remain optimistic! It will be sad, but what memories!

HP fandom will be like all other fandoms before it, even when it is all over, it will still be popular among those fans that hold everything that is HP closet to their hearts. I don't think the HP fandom will die out quickly. Look at the Star Trek fandom, it is still as popular as it waswhen it began. I feel that HP will be like this as well. In one shape or form it will live on for a long time...

I agree I dont want to think about it. Before the date was released for Deathly Hallows, we all knew it would come sooner or later but now that we know the date the end seems so near. I think there will still be forums, and JKR said there will still be stuff to debate, and people can still write fanfiction, but I think it will feel more finalized. Plus we will still have 2 movies. But I think that the fandom will never truly end. As long as people still want to discuss it and love it I think VTM will be here for a while(kinda off topic)

Feb 14 2007, 04:12 PM
Guys once the Deathly Hallows has been released and we've all closed the back cover after reading the last page, Harry Potter will still have a lot to talk about. We should all still be fans and no matter how much JK Rowling puts into the Deathly Hallows, she can't possibly cover every little detail of the wizarding world in one book.
We won't know the reason why everyone did everything they did in the books, how people became how they became and of course, what all the characters would be doing now, if a new book was written. There will obviously be rumours of new books, spin-off books etc. I think JK Rowling is right: we'll still have a lot to discuss and enjoy!
Plus, JK Rowling has said she would like to write another book or books like "Quiddich Through The Ages" and "Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them" for charity, just like the first two which were for Comic Relief, a UK charity event. So we'll probably have those books to look forward to and discuss also AND don't forget the films which are still to be made!
The Harry Potter fandom will live on long after the Deathly Hallows

i would love for her to write books about James and Sirius in Hogwarts. That would be funny! I think though that she wants to move away from Harry. Who knows what other fantstic ideas are in her head! There could be another series that will blow our minds!

I came into reading Harry Potter after the first five books had already been published (I read these at bedtime to my 8 year old son), so HP hasn't been a long-standing part of my life, but since I started reading these books, it has become a very significant part of the bonding with my son. That I will miss, since we've already read all six books at least twice, and in the case of book 6, several times.
I suspect that Harry Potter will continue to be a part of my life for years to come, as my three year-old daughter has actually asked me to start reading to her, which I am doing extremely slowly. Plus, my wife and I are expecting our third child in about a month, so with any luck, I'll be reading Harry Potter to my kids for several more years.
In the mean time, I have started writing a series of fantasy novels that are not about witchcraft and wizardry, but still would appeal to fans of this genre. I wrote the first book in the series as a Christmas gift for my son last year, and now I'm at the start of the second chapter of the sequel. I suspect that I'll be filling a lot more of my creative needs in the Antiquity Calais series for some time to come.

Nailgun, I don't think there is any way that JKR could screw up the book, she's the author after all. I think that if someone would think that she does screw it up, that person thinks he/she is always right.
Personally, I hope JKR ties up all of the loose ends in the book and epilogue (has she confirmed that there is one?). As for the site, I don't know what will happen; but I don't think I will be on here that much after though...

I don't think that when JKR said that there would be a lot to discuss after the book, that there were lots of loose ends. Perhaps unimportant things will be left unanswered, but the main things will all be nicely closed... with her usual flair and twists and turns. I think that she means that we will be discussing character motives and rationales for things happening the way they did.
I think that we will be glad to have each other to talk about it with for many months after the first readings, after all, who intends to read it once and be done...

I honestly don't think we will shut for a long time yet. We've got a good few years ahead of us yet so don't fret. As everyone above me has said, we'll have tonnes to discuss with the book, plus JKR will bound to have done more interviews about things not finished in the book so we'll have that to chat about. Plus we've still got two movies to wait for. So there will be plenty to talk about.
But, eventually, when we do shut down I hope everyone can say they had a great time on here and they wished that JKR had written more books or something to keep it open. But as long as there are fans willing to talk about it (those odd people who have yet to see the brilliant world of HP for example) then there's no reason why we should close down any sooner then say......5 years?

Hmm... I dread thinking of this place shutting down. It makes me so sad!
But I'll admit it has to happen, albeit probably not until after the movies are finished. Though there seems the distinct possibility that attendance will slowly drop after the last book is released and discussion slows... As to when it will shut down, we just have to wait and see.
Besides, looking on the bright side, there could be some freak twist and she writes more about it, or in some way there is the ability and interest to keep the site running! You never know...!

I suppose somewhere in the foggy future there'll come a day where VTM will just be a fond memory... But if it's a good one, it was worth it! I just hope to keep in touch with the wonderful people I've met here, and the longer we're all together at VTM, the easier that will be.
I'm all sad now. We'll still have fanfic! That's the biggest thing. The movies I'm not too fussed about, to be honest. I basically just watch them for Alan Rickman and the rest of the adult cast, but as long as fan fiction is alive and well, hopefully we can keep this up for some time to come. Gosh, I haven't felt this nostalgic in a long time!
