Ok Well i thought Id start a thread commemorating a most wonderful singer... Enya. As many of you know she sang in Elvish and English for the Lord of the Rings. She also has many other albums out such as her latest one called Amarantine.

I thought we could all express what Enya does for us, how she makes us feel, what we think of her music, and how you were introduced to such a unique artist.

To start out, I conciously found Enya when watching Third Watch, one of her Songs "Only Time" was featured on the Drama for a death of a character. This is when I bought her CD " A Day without Rain" Then I found out she was singing for the Lord of the Rings and i flipped with excitement!!!. MY Grandmother loves her as well and she told me that her and my mother had put me to sleep with some of Enya albums from the late 80's, Early 90's.... which i found pleasantly Ironic. I love listening to enya at anytime, when i am cleaning, writing, reading... and when I try to sleep. I use enyas mellow songs to block out any external noise while I read because she is easier to tune out than a brother or co-worker. I now have countless songs of hers on my Ipod! Not many people like Enay where i go to school, in south central Pennsylvania, and it is looked down upon since I am a guy, but since I dont care about such veiws I keep listening!

I hope there are many more out there that can share in my passion for this artist.

Hey Albus! happy.gif

I'm sorry to have to tell you that we don't allow any threads about individual singers or bands to be opened without permission from a mod anymore. It's an effort to keep this forum from bursting with topics on every possible thing, if you understand. tongue.gif

This'll unfortunately be closed then, but you could ask a mod to consider re-opening it. smile.gif Any questions, don't hesitate to contact any mod or prefect!
Louise
Hey Albus smile.gif

Just wanted to say that it's been discussed and we've decided to re-open your thread smile.gif

Good luck with it!!

On a personal note, I'm rather partial to Enya myself wink.gif I listen to her a lot when I'm writing - helps me think. Little tip though - don't ever listen to 'Only Time' when you're reading an emotional fanfic...you'll inevitably end up blubbing. Or maybe that's just me...tongue.gif

Ooh, and China Roses...another one that gets me going...eeek.gif
Albus Dumbledore
Oh thank you Michelle.... I know Only Time is quite an emotional song... I get really upset when I listen to " If I could be where you are" on her newest album Amarantine... its quite a sad song and could be applied to many life circumstances...
Aethonon
I love Enya! I am really partial to Celtic music of all kinds. I don't have her newest recording though--I'll have to take care of that.

Another great group is Clannad, which is made up of Enya's sisters and brother, if I'm not mistaken.

i watched the lord of the rings alot and i heard her but i never really listened or like actually looked her up and see her other cd's that is weird but i liked her in the lord of the rings she was good and i will check her out and i will tell you if she is any good and i hope she is good
Aethonon
Ah, she is wonderful! Her songs remind one of far-off shores, romance, loneliness...you can't boogie to them, but like Louise said, they're wonderful when you feel like being contemplative, when writing, or doing homework, or just musing. I'd really recommend you try one of her albums!
Albus Dumbledore
if your going to buy one, just one album...which i dont reccomend you do, buy them all!!!.... but if one is all you will buy... i suggest Shepard Moons.... it is an album that is so extraordinary... especially Carribean Blue...Lothlorien... and many more..... I agree aethonon it does remind one of a distant mystical land... i fall asleep to her at night, i read with her in the background... i listen to her anytime!!!!
Harry_Ginny777
wow she is awesome her voice is amazing, i only looked up 2-3 videos on youtube and i looked up Amarantine, Only Time, and i watched a interview with her and she is really cool, and her songs are so emotional, and i like that kind of music but i never heard of her but she is really good.
Albus Dumbledore
Im glad you enjoyed her. all of her songs are really deep and conjure up a story in an active imagination.... it gives me chills sometimes to listen to them... as weird as that may be
Harry_Ginny777
i also like her videos but her songs are great and her videos are neat. it is just weird i read in this thread that her songs and stuff are from the 80's and 90's that is a little weird because i never heard of her and i am 14 and i think my mom would have told me a little about her because my mom was in to this kind of music i am going to ask her if she knows who she is.

Great topic! I love Enya!
She did a wonderful job in LOTR. Very beautiful.
Caribbean Blue is one of my fav songs by her. However, I've never seen a music video.
Albus Dumbledore
Wow! I totally forgot about this thread! I still like Enya of course, and I listen to her all the time. I write and read alot with her music on my iPod so as to make it easier for me to block out obtrusive sounds, it works great! The music has such an amazing rhythm that you can concentrate on something 10X better... and it also helps you fall asleep! I have a cd player right under my bed which has a cd in it and the only thing I use it for it when I go to bed everynight I turn it on and I have Enya on and I usually am out before the 4th song is up.

Louise! I remember you telling me about China Roses this past summer and I am glad you did! I remember you telling about listening to it while reading about Sirius and I must say that listening to Enya while reading a book, especially sad scenes from HP you are bound to cry.

A recent favorite of mine is "Smaointe" which is on her "Shepherd Moons" album. The song is in Gaelic and is about grandparents I think, but to someone who is not learned in Gaelic the song is very powerful and evokes strong emotions. Just listening to the severity within the grace of the song makes you all teary, but when I read or think about Dumbledore's Death and his funeral I cant stem the flow of tears! What worse is you feel even worse when you change from her soft voice in the beginning to the strong bagpipe piece in the middle, then back to her voice again... ughh! its heart wrenching!

Anyhow, are there any more Enya fans out there?

K.Lupin_werewolf
oh my god!! i love her! Enya is fantastic! i haven't heard loads from her but i love what i have heard! i really like all the work she did for Lotr and the song "Only Time" it's an... emotional song but i love it!
Sabrina_Rose_Snape
Although Enya is not my ususal type of music, I must admit, I love two songs of hers like K.Lupin_werewolf (a post above mine). The one from Lord of the Rings. . .what is that called?? unsure.gif huh.gif
But my favorite is 'Only Time' it is one of the most emotional songs I ave EVER heard but I love it none the less. I think it would be a great funeral song for Dumbledore or Sirius or Cedric ect. . .well maybe that's because my twin (K.Lupin_werewolf) made a video with Enya's song 'Only Time' about Cedric, Sirius and Dumbledore.
Albus Dumbledore
The song from Lord of the Rings, that was most popular, was "May it be". Its a really good song and the music video for it is great. The words and the feelings of the music match the feel of the of the movie.

"Only Time" is used often in sad things like movies and the like. I remember first coming across it on the show "The Third Watch" and it was really used effectively.

I suggest you either buy or download some more of Enya's music, you will get hooked!

~Albus
Sabrina_Rose_Snape
May it Be!! Of course! How could I not remeber that? And you are right Albus Dumbledore, the words of the song do capture the movie. I love that song. . .but. . . sad.gif I have not got 'May it Be' or 'Only Time' on this computer, there on my dad's computer at his house sad.gif
. . .
I don't surpose you know of any websites I can download those two songs from? It's alright if you don't biggrin.gif
Albus Dumbledore
Hmm, I suggest Limewire, its quick to download, then you can get other songs as well, plus its free.

Has anyone, who is a pretty serious Enya fan, bought her newest album. I beleive it came out a year ago, but everyone I talk to has yet to purchase it. Its called "Amarantine", and its one of her best so far. It's aimed more toward asian styles of music, and Enya really does a good job with it.

What is everyone's favorite album by her?

I really loved Enya's song from the Lord of the Rings series. It was really beautifully sung. She has such a soothing, relaxing voice and her songs are gentle and pleasant to hear. I like Orinoco Flow too, probably her best song after the Lord of the Rings track.
GreyEyes
I also love her songs in The lord of the rings, it fits so well! She really is a fantastic singer with a amazing voice smile.gif May it be is my favourite song!

May it Be.

My personal favourites would have to be Wild Child, May It Be, Isobella and One By One. She has a gorgeous voice, I love how the entire choir in all of her songs are sung totally by her, with lots of double tracking and overdubbing, she's amazing.
