etphonehome
I watched the last episode of Dr Who last night, the one thats just started in Australia? I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it but the final two episodes are amazing, sad and happy all rolled into one. David Tennant has so far made a great Dr and I'm looking forward to seeing who his new sidekick is going to be.

I love British Tellie. My favorite is Father Ted, but I also enjoy My Family, The Kumars at number 42, My Hero, Little Britain (yeah, I know...), Cracker...They have really great tellie! I have to say that the best Kumars is the one with Robin Gibb...at the end, when they say "Please Mr. Gibb, not in the rose bushes" (their bathroom was broken)...I almost fell over laughing. I wish I could have seen Sir Robin's face when she said it! tongue.gif biggrin.gif

ohmy.gif I forgot one! gasp! I forgot one of my favorites...Black Books! It is so funny...I love Manny...I swallowed the little book of calm...Remember "Be on the look out for things that make you laugh. If you see nothing worth laughing at, pretend you see it, then laugh."

Good evening Babylon

Right mandatory stupidly is out of the way

Black adder is the beast and the 2nd series is the best of the best
The young ones a pity about there only being 12 episodes but there was another program with the same cast a sort of fictomenory
Monty python yep it is good what about the goon show sort of python on the radio
Red dwarf did it ever use the mining gun and I really like the blue bugs what happened at the end of the show after serieres 8

space1999 Eagles rock
duckuler beaach beach this ant [is not] this is the arazona Desert [and that is an exact quote it just dos not sound right other wise]
the thin blue line
Omerus_Banning
Hustle just started here in Canada on the CBC. Love that show to bits! I'm even learning a few things...

Blackadder was brilliant! As was Red Dwarf. Lister is now on Corrie, which is weird beyond belief...

Still waiting for Dr. Who to start again here. They're re-running the Eccleston season over again right now, so I'm hoping for the new series in the Fall...
Harry_Ginny777

His films are the BEST lol!!

Yeah i watch lots of British TV but it's all getting rubbish, i loved Little Britain but its wearing off, The Office was class...
I hate Hollyoaks and Eastenders.... Coronation Street is ok, but thats only because it has Richard Fleeshman in it tongue.gif

Jeremy Kyle is an English show! Trisha is too, they're both shows like Jerry Springer, and he has an English show now!!

BOOHBAH IS SCARY! MY GOSH AHHHH!!! I love the Tweenies though, can't nock it, i met Jake cool.gif
departed_soul
Ooh...I never used to watch British tv shows, until I figured out the joys of BBC America and PBS (yes....PBS). Since last year, I've become addicted to Keeping Up Appearances, The Vicar of Dibley, The Office, Footballers Wives, Chef, and As Time Goes By. I've just started watching My Hero -- a bit freaky but funny.
Julia_Rose_Black
I love old British comedies! Some of my favorites are

Blackadder ( Hugh Laurie had a guest appearence in a couple of them and he was great!)
Monty Python (Spamalot rocks!)
and Faulty Towers (John Cleese was fabulous in that show!)

I've seen every episode of Faulty Towers, a bunch of Blackadder, and mostly movies and stuff for Monty Python but the episodes I have seen were hysterical. I also really wanted to get my hands on a few episodes, at least, of the Fry and Laurie Show, it looks hilarious!!

What does everyone (including the Australians) think about the latest season of Doctor Who? This week episode looks really interesting (The TV Guide indicates that this one will be set in 2012 at London) and I can't wait to watch it tonight. Oh, if people have seen the whole season - please don't give spoilers for those who haven't seen it all!

I just really love David Tennant - his energy is fantastic and I just feel so enthralled with the show because he makes it so believable!

What do you think?
etphonehome
Ok greeneyes I won't give the game away....! But the whole series is very good!

At the moment I'm watching X-Factor....for those who don't know, it's the UK sort of version of what was Pop Idol /American Idol etc revamped for 16 to 100 year olds and groups! Run by the ever sarcastic Simon Cowell.

I love it...he is so brutally honest. I am also watching Extras which is very funny. Also I'm looking forward to the new series of Cracker which stars Robbie Coltrane and has some guest appearances by people like Rupert Grint, Julie Walters (thanks Helen, private joke) and a few other HP cast members.
Golden Phoenix
I just love Doctor Who. It's really good. There's a repeat of the last one in the series on later (UK)... It's the best one ever! I won't say anything else about it here because the chances are you haven't seen it yet. It's really good though, make sure you watch it when it's on! biggrin.gif I've seen it about 10 times now, and I haven't even got bored of it. laugh.gif

Ooh. I like Doctor Who. It just started airing on the Scifi Channel here in the states. I was especially impressed with the first episode. I liked the previous season, but this one is quickly shaping up to be really great. And I love David Tennant as the Doctor. He just seems to strike the perfect tone to me. I'm very excited to see the rest of the season.

The only other british shows I've seen much of are The Office, Spaced, and I have Life on Mars Tivoed, though I've only watched the first 3 or 4 episodes. I love Spaced.
makemeinvisible
Yeah I'm a massive fan of British Comedy. I find it hard to find a british comedy that I don't love. So here they are:

1. Fawlty Towers - Classic Comedy. No more needs to be said.
2. The Monty Python gang and almost anything they do.
3. The Extra's.
4. The Office.
5. Black Books.
6. Absolute Power.
7. Absolutely Fabulous.

Then there's the serious shows (well more serious)

1. New Tricks
2. The Bill (yeah I know!)
3. Midsomer Murders
4. Wire in the Blood
5. Spooks
6. Rocket Man
7. The Last Detective
8. At Home with the Braithwaites
9. Doctor Who
10. Casanova

There are more that I keep forgetting and when I remember I'll post them up. I spend a lot of time watching tv!
Golden Phoenix
I love all those "serious" shows that you posted, makemeinvisible. I especially like Wire in the Blood, that is really good! And Spooks. There's one which I can't remember the name of but it's brilliant. I also like Afterlife, except it scares me... that's it for now.

A new seires of Robin Hood started about 3 weeks ago. The actor who plays Robin is pretty cute and does actually have a Nottingham-ish accent. But I'm so having trouble with the guy who plays the Sherriff of Nottingham. He seems to me to be trying to be the same Sherriff that Alan Rickman was in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and....well he's just not good enough at being a baddie. All in all it's a bit of a weak show really, but it fills the gap between X Factor and the results, if you watch it on sky HD.
LupinFan88
I dont know if this counts, but I watch BBC America sometimes. Does that count? I mean, is it britsh shows? They are advertiseing a show called "Cracker" and its got Robbie Coltrane in it. It looks good. I like wathing the old episodes of Whose Line is it Anyway? but I dont know if they are britsih, exactly.
62442al_Man
My friend sometimes links me to some comedy skits on Youtube, but I also watch Faulty Towers ever since I could rememer. I love that show. They only air it over here in the States on PBS at like 2 in the morning, but its worth it.
rockerniks
Well, i watched two seasons of 'Strictly Come Dancing'
And they were really cool.
I also like the shows like Changing Rooms and stuff like that, theyre pretty cool too.
Seriouslysirius
As i am British i watch British films/ t.v stuff. Torchwood's a paticulary favourite of mine.

I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here
Doctor Who
Torchwood

Omerus_Banning
Love Doctor Who! Spooks was awesome, too! Hustle was quite good, as are Strange and The Kumars at #42.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale are my guilty pleasures (what can I say, my wife and a former co-worker of mine got me hooked!)

I agree 'Omerus_Banning' I thought Hustle was good as well I hope it come back!
Does anyone watch 'Walking the dead' or anything like that?
a_magical_suicide

This is the best topic to start my part on Inter-fandom month. I've been meaning to write here for ages, but somehow I never have got myself actually do it.
Anyway, back to topic...

These are the british shows I watch:
Heartbeat - The show itself is good, but I especially like to watch countryside it shows with those old houses. That's how I image English country to look, even though it might not be so realistic.
Keeping up appearances
Britains worst drivers
Footballers Wives - although I'm not sure I'm I allowed to be laughing or are the writers actually taking it seriously biggrin.gif
Hustle- we have only seen the first season, so we've got lots to catch up
Seriouslysirius
Hey has anyone heard this winter....

That there is going to be a seies called Primeval on?

I think it's about some prehistoric creatures coming through to are time i'm defiently going to watch it.....

Oh Doctor Whos on this christmas day. Love that too.
xXTonksXx
well i watch loads of british shows bacause i live in the uk! i like doctor who smile.gif coronation street, x factor and ive watched I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here every year that its been on but its over now for another year sad.gif and.....loads more!
Seriouslysirius
I forgot that theres this Ruby In the Smoke as well. I stars Billie Piper who of course was Rose in Doctor Who.
I don't know if i'll watch it but then again i don't know i might.
Only because it's got Billie Piper in it.
lavender brown
oh cool, isnt ruby in the smoke a book by philip pullman?? anyway if its on tv i will have to watch it too because of billie piper happy.gif

i like silent witness as well, that was really good!!

well i think most of the other tv shows i watch i listed before, but i have to say i think torchwood is my favourite at the moment because it is on and everything else finished and i was sad sleep.gif
HPfan#1
I have to agree with lavender brown because Torchwood is the best!!!!! I love Doctor Who aswell, David Tennant is so hot(probably because he's Scottish like me tongue.gif )I'm sad that Billie Piper left but by the sounds of it she is going to be in other T.V. shows. I also watch my soaps, Eastenders(love it!!!!!!!), Coranation Street, Hollyoaks, River City(it is a Scottish programme set in Glasgow) and i sometimes watch Emmerdale.
ILoveHarryPotter07
I recently starting watching the BBC series Robin Hood. All I have to say is...ADDICTING!
It is an amazing show, its really action packed, and I love the whole hero thing, mixed with a little romance. Some of the lines are so funny and the plots are always good, if you haven't seen it I totally suggest checking it out. Although, because I am an American we get the new season a long time after the Brits, so its easier to keep up with the show by watching on youtube or something like that. I just started season 2.
Dementoid1
Does anyone here watch the Catherine Tate Show? It's such a laugh, I find the old nan hilarious! Those who watch it will know what I'm talking about!
Mundu
I haven't seen the Catherine Tate show, but it just started here on Friday, so I might make a point of watching it next week.

Other shows I like:

*Doctor Who. It's just fantastic really.
*Top Gear. It makes me laugh.
*Doc Martin. I don't know, I just really like it.
*Black Books. Funny funny funny! "I want a tower of soup - where are the turrets???" I'm so sad it's over.
*Spooks
*Hotel Babylon wasn't bad
*Greenwing!!! It's over now as well... I've skim-read the whole thread and it hasn't been mentioned. Has anyone seen it? Does anyone find it funny? I loved it to pieces.
HP#1_wee_lil'
I love Coronation Street, I've watched it for about 6 or 7 years now. But that is the only soap I watch.
I like sitcoms like Only Fools and Horses and stuff, though that's quite old now. I also love Still Game. I can't remember if it is shown outside Scotland or not but I love it anyway.

Also, this is the first time in a quite a few weeks that I won't be watching the X Factor as it is now past the finals and Leon Jackson ( who incedently use comes in the next town from me) has won. Was anybody else following the show this year? Who do think should have won?

I think I'm the only one around who doesn't like Doctor Who. I think it is boring. All that happens ( in my opinion as I may be wrong) is that he travels through time meets some strange looking aliens and then defeats them. Please correct me if I'm wrong all you Doctor Who fans!

QUOTE
River City(it is a Scottish programme set in Glasgow

What a coinsodince (sp?), I'm watching that right now and I like never watch that lol!
Dementoid1
HP#1_wee_lil, I love the X Factor, but I thought this year's was pretty rubbish, there were only a few great singers and they got rid of them all! I think Rhydian should have won, as he had the better voice(better than Leon's anyway). Leon's voice is too weak and I don't think he should have won at all.
Let's just hope next year's show will be better! biggrin.gif

Hahaha okay that about sums doctor who up - but it's great tv! It's been around for years biggrin.gif I'm eagerly awaiting the christmas special this year ...

Hmm has anyone seen the old bbc version of Pride and Prejudice? (It counts because technically it was a series on tv tongue.gif ) For those who have not seen it I suggest you watch it. It tops the new Pride and Prejudice by far and it sticks to the book more. It's brilliant.
In fact all the bbc adaptions are great: Casanova, Oliver Twist, Pride and Prejudice. Just watch them everyone tongue.gif
Mundu
Yeah I've seen it. (Just checking - it's the one with Colin Firth as Mr Darcy isn't it?) I actually haven't seen the new Pride and Prejudice yet (and it was on tv last week! what have I been doing with my life that I've missed so much tv lately! eeek.gif ). But I loved the BBC version. It was almost totally true to the book, they didn't skip a lot. But then it was like a six-part series as opposed to a feature-length film, so I'll forgive the new version...

I have to agree with you, the BBC adaptions are pretty good. I saw the contemporary Shakespeare adaptions last year (Taming of the Shrew, MacBeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Much Ado About Nothing) and they were really good, particularly the Taming of the Shrew. I think I've still got it on tape actually...

So no takers for Greenwing? No? Just checking... whistling.gif

Personally I preferred the natural tone of Leon's voice to the trained operatic voice of Rhydian. I found the guy to be arrogant and far too confident and I think this made him unlikable to the public. The UK always vote with their hearts anyway.

As for all that hoo har about the phone lines, they had the same thing wen Will Young beat Gareth Gates in Pop Idol. Gareth was the favourite but it just goes to show, where is he now.

X Factor is not one of our better shows, expecially when you think of the brilliant adaptations we've had of the classics. Most recently we've had Cranford starring Dame Judi Dench, it was awesome. I like Robin Hood, it's quite quirky and Keith Allen could give Alan Rickman a run for his money in the Sheriff of Nottingham department.

I can't wait for new years day when we get a new adaptation of Sense and Sensibility. I just love British television.

amortentia_lover
Wow I ought to pay more attention to the tv guide, I'll keep an eye out for Sense and Sensibility seeing as I've just started reading it. biggrin.gif
I agree, X factor isn't one of our best. It was great at the start, but after a few years it does get a bit monotonous tongue.gif We have so many different competitions all running at once I can't see how anyone CAN keep up. X-factor, strictly come dancing, pop idol ...

lol. A lot of people like show so it can't be that monotonous, I think I may even watch it on Tuesday if I can be bothered.

Hmmm, that's where I have to disagree with you. I mean yeah, Rydian's voice was stronger, but think of all the training he's had the Leon hasn't, and plus he has a completley different type of voice from Leon. As an opera style singer I don't think he would have done as well outside the x factor. Plus, Leon had the sad story and the looks to go with his sweet little voice.

QUOTE

You're right, it is a bunch of hoo har. I voted for Leon six times in total but if everytime I'd tried to get through had counted he would have won the X Factor purely on my votes! lol

I think he well deserved to win, and having seen him in the flesh performing live twice now, I can honestly say he is really good. Or maybe I just love hime too much because he is a local lad. lol
*dementor*
Heyy,

i am british, so yeaaaah... tongue.gif

i've seen some of Doctor Who, it's really good...like the stoyline.
Topgear is nice too, bit too boy-ish for me though, not that into all the car gear stuff...

Spooks, is just...amazing. tongue.gif my favourite one ever! Last week was the season finale, end of season 6...cant wait till season 7!! the best series EVER.
really good stuff.

smile.gif
Amy--
Well, seeing as I am British, yes, I do watch british programs biggrin.gif

Only Fools and Horses, Fawlty Towers, Strictly Come Dancing, Eastenders, sometimes Waterloo Road - and we can't forget Auf Wiedersehn Pet!!!
Lauren0891

I am British, but surprisingly I don't watch a lot of British TV. No idea why that is. I used to be addicted to Eastenders and Coronation Street, couldn't care less about them now. I do occasionally watch Eastenders from time to time, but i don't follow it like I used to.

I do enjoy Top Gear, occasionally Catherine Tate and Little Britain..
