Hi There,

Since the majority of members on this site are from the USA, and JKR has pretty much insisted on a British cast for the movies. Who would you have cast in the major roles, had JKR been an American and had written about an American boy Wizard.

You can be as serious or funny as you like..(I think some of the funniest ones come from trying to cast big Hollywood names). Age is not limited for example you can cast Brad Pitt as Cedric Diggory if you like! I'd like to see some serious recommendations though, because I think it will be a lot easier to go the funny route.

I have some ideas of my own.....I don't know the kids name, but he plays Gordo in Lizzie McGuire....definate Harry contender.

I all seriuosness I think that Kirsten Dunst could of been a good Fleur Delacour. And Hayen Christensen plays an awsome Vader, but would of been right for Tom Riddle.

Whoa, those are interesting choices! I don't understand how no one chose Keanu Reeves as Harry Potter, he is the one...right?

For Quirrel I guess I would choose Austin Pendleton (he did the voice of one of the fish in Finding Nemo and was in My Cousin Vinny. If you saw that movie, you'd understand...he talks exactly like him, though he isn't young like Quirrel is supposed to be.

I think I read in one post that Johnny Depp would make a good Sirius Black. I love Gary Oldman for the part, but that would be superb as well.

Someone said Liv Tyler as Fleur Delacour, I also think that's an awesome idea. She's a little too old, BUT, she's just really strikingly, almost unearthly, beautiful. She has dark hair, but they could change that.

I think Brad Dourif [the guy who plays Grima Wormtongue in LOTR] would make a good Snape. No one could ever match up to Alan Rickman however, but, I just think he could look perfect for the part. I like the actors as they are though, except for Dumbledore.

Nicholas would make a pretty good Ron, since Xander is almost exactly like him anyway.
Jonny Depp would be totally awsome for Sirius Black! But I have to disargee for Keanu as Harry, he's not a good actor in anything execpt the Matrix.
I think Evangeline Lilly, Kate from Lost, would make a good Hermione. She sorta even looks like Emma.

I think a very young circa Back to the Future Michael J Fox would be a good Harry also from the same era Elzabeth Shue as Hermione.

I can't think of any suitable Americans to be in HP.I agrre with JK Rowling about only British actors.It'be too weird without their accents and stuff.

I liked the Willem DaFoe idea for Snape, he's got such an interesting face! Then the guy who played his son is Spiderman could play him in the Pensieve scene.

How about Anthony Michael Hall (Dead Zone) as Lupin? He has those intense eyes. Pair him with Jeff Goldblum as Sirius.

And Owen Wilson as Lockhart! Ha!

Oh please, please don't let any of these people try a British accent! And vice versa - don't let British ones try American accents - no no no no. (Actors should be discouraged from doing accents as a general rule...) I'd rather imagine Harry Potter was set somewhere in America than have a whole cast struggle with funny pronunctiation.

For Lupin... hmm, he is difficult. Maybe it's because he is so very English. Lol, what about Billy Bob Thornton?

And I love Viggo, Triad...*sigh*...I'd have that man's baby. But I see him more as Lupin. He even has the real scar on his upper lip that a werewolf might have--ha! He got it from barbed wire when he was 17, according to GQ (which I read at the barber's when my son was getting a haircut).

Well there is only one role for Samuel L. Jackson, Kingsley Shacklebolt. He would be perfect for the role if not for the English requirement.

I can picture Emilio as Sirius Black, Macauley Culkin would have to be Colin Creevy. That kid was so annoying in his youth. I am not sure about the others. Maybe John Goodman as the fat potions guy in book six. I am drawing a blank on his name right now.

Is that Slughorn? Yeah, he'd be fun in that, with a big handlebar moustache.

I know this is quite difficult for some people to do, as they are in the whole Harry Potter is British mindset. But if you can open up your imagination to the possibilities of what if? You can come up with some funny casting.

I think that Johnny Depp could make the perfect Sirius. Remember the scene in Pirates of the Carribbean (1) when Johnny Depp is lying on the sand after him and Kierra Knightly were stranded? Well if you could picture him while he's laying there, then picture the moment when Sirius almost died from the dementors. When he was laying there. They look exact at those two moments..

I could definatley see Owen Wilson as Lockheart! That would be histerical

Anthony Hopkins is British too. But he'd make a better Dumbledore than Gambon, I would say. At least he can excude power without trying too hard.

Ygraine, I do think Americans have more trouble with British accents because there are so many regional differences there. I think British actors have a much better time playing Americans.

I liked the Frankie Muniz suggestion for Draco. He does have those sharp features, and they could put a wig on him like they do for Tom Felton now. And I love Holly Hunter--we never see enough of her!

Yeah, it seems all of our younger American actresses are glam-girls who can't really act their way out of a paper bag. We need someone REAL to play Hermione! Not someone who spends all her money getting more plastic surgery, and all her time partying. And I'm so sick of these fake blondes! Although now it seems they all want to be fake brunettes. Ooops, going here--it's not the 'celebs you love to hate' thread! lol

I've bean wracking my brains to think of a suitable actress for Hermione, I came up with zilch, but Issie (who's 9!!!) came up with Anne Hathaway as she was pre Princess Mia makeover in the Princess Diaries. I thought that was quite a good one. I like the Frankie Muniz idea too. Has anyone got any ideas for Trelawney? Hooch? Sprout? or Flitwick?

I've just thought about those characters so I'll have to go away and think about it myself.

Anne is really taleneted, anyone see Brokeback Mountain, she was really good. I suggested the girl who plays Kate on lost for Hermione, and no one said anything. I that Hermione is really hard to chose, because of her clear brain power, and American actress sadly seem to want to cover any brain power with plastic.

I think that Anne is a wonderful actress and she's really down to earth, and not like a plastic barbie like these other actresses, but she is also 24. Although there is digitaal editing and makeup, thats hard to fix.

I thought about Emmy Rossum before, I think she could fit, she's a really simple beauty. Oh! Katie Homes, when she was in Dawson's Creek. Joey is quiet a lot like Hermione actaully.
As for Ron and Harry, I thought of Nichalos Brendon when he was in Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Ron if he died his hair red. I say this because Buffy+HP fans know how much Ron and Xander are alike.
I can't think of some one for Harry. Thinking is hard.

I Know this might be very very strange..but..when i read the books i always imagined sirius as hugh jackman..in the books is says he is attractive but worn down and i just imagined hugh because he always plays the brute looking man. and he is good looking!!!

If their was a Harry Potter Casting here, I would go for Ginny, because she like me, has red hair and I'm pretty much look like her, except my eyes are blue and hers are brown or green Ibelieve, I can't re-call. But I think I'm too old for her, now, which is sad D: because if I had been casted, I wouldn't have to memorize many lines, I already know the books through and through.
