This thread is going to replace the old 'Who Are You' thread, which I think was a little bit too structured and formal and doesn't really make much allowances for people just to chat and get to know each other a little bit

Now please bear in mind that the NO ONE-LINERS rule still applies in this particular forum, and this is still NOT a chatroom. What it IS is just a place where you can get to know fellow newcomers to the forums and make friends, so, just as a guide, perhaps you might like to talk about which HP book is your favourite and why, when you started reading the books, how you feel about school, where you're from (roughly!! Just the country will do ), what types of music you like, if you have pets, what's your favourite colour/season/holiday destination, if you like fanfics, etc etc....I'm sure you can think of things for yourselves too

Well, what do you all think of the Harry Potter hype that seems to be taking Potterdom by storm again? I just love times like these, because everyone feels so excited, there's new Potter stuff to look forward to - I'm all excited about seeing the movie, and I'm a self-proclaimed movie hater!

Lol, ok, maybe they're not that bad, because they do have Alan Rickman in them, but I can't wait to see more promo pics! Just imagine how cool it will be to see the first trailers!

So what are your thoughts, peeps?

Well i am a newbie here and my name is Mike I'm probably a bit older than most of the usual crowd here (im 23) but that doesnt change the way I feel about HP I love every aspect of it and sometimes find myself consumed by it. As fas as the hype goes I look forward to it. It's great to see everyone so devoted. Personally I cant wait for the 7th book to come out as soon as theres an offical date set for its release I am going to try and reserve a copy. I cant wait for 2007 to start just for the next chapters of the book and movie series.
I am rooting for Harry to prevail over the forces of evil despite the fact that i possess most of the qualities that Slytherin look for.

Im fairly new here, I will have only been here 3 months on October 3rd. I live in South Central Pennsylvania, I will be turning 17 years old on October 11th, and I am in 12th grade. I enjoy learning new languages and examining history. I am on the Newspaper staff and Student Council, I was vice President last year, and I ran for President this year and lost by 5 votes!! I enjoy reading and living a very cultured life. I love examining the arts in museums, and artifacts from the past greatly attract me. I have quite a habit of buying old things from markets... Recently I acquired an old american magazine that was the first world wide publication of the The Third Reich in color... I love collecting things of that nature. I enjoy colecting books, again old books as well. My goal is to fill bookshelves and bookshelves of books for all of my family and friends to enjoy... to a certain extent

I plan on being a History teacher when I graduate, I would like to travel the world and see many places. My favorite character in the Harry Potter series is Albus Dumbledore. I love everything about the character. I actually look up to him as a role model, and I model my actions after him as often as I can, because he is such an archetypal character. I find myself showing some characteristics of Voldemort as well, like his magpie-like tendencies... I too fear death... why I do not know. I think it would be a great adventure to experience death, but what I fear is that ther will be nothing.... and I will cease to exist in all forms

I'm not exactly a newbie here either...but since it is 12:59 am where I'm at and I'm sort of spacey and awake, I thought I might post.

I'm Just the Droobles/Droobles/Droob, whatever. Some people know my real name.... I've been here since December 2 of 2005. So, not really new. I guess I could be considered new for the Potter scene though because I only statred reading them in 2003 when the third movie came out. But, now that I've read them, my life is complete. Naw, I'm just joking.

I'm 16, as of the 29th of this month, and I'm from Kentucky. I have all my teeth, several shoes, and I'm not a hillbilly, so no need for silly stereotypes about Kentucky...even though I'm totally used to every one that you could throw at me.

But usually, once a person has been around long enough and been active, we expect that person to know all the Rules by that point anyhow.

Well I am a newbie here. I just started going to this site around last month. I was on a break during college and had nothing better to do. I am 18 years old and live in New York. I started reading Harry Potter when I was in the seventh grade. I just love reading the books over. Yeah i have no life. I am studying to become a computer engineer. Who needs magic when you have technology? I don't have any pets. I like to spend my time reading, watching television, and playing computer games.

How's the course for you so far, then? I'm in a test week at this very moment, so it's rather tough, but I enjoy it a lot! Just wrote Maths today... Sorry, I'm always surprised to find normal (Harry Potter fans) people who do the same thing as me, because I'm one of only two girls in the class, and all my (quite likable) class mates have no interest in Harry Potter at all. To be honest, they have no interest in anything other than electronics, programming and Counter Strike.

Harry Potter fan/computer person sounds pretty condemning to the geek side of the social spectrum, huh? I've found that... though I'm not very geeky myself. Not always, anyway.

Hi, I'm new and started posting recently. I've been having a lot of fun here so for the staff, Great Work! I never thought I would be into Harry Potter. My husband really wanted to see the first movie when it came out but I wasn't interested. We saw it together and I have been a fan ever since and have even read the books. Really looking forward to 7. Even my 3 yr old daughter loves Harry. I thought it might scare her but actually she really loves it and has seen all of the movies. hello everyone! my name's chloe, i'm 17, and i'm from ottawa, Canada. Yes, that very boring city they call a capital (yeah right). Anyways, i'm a huge HP fan since fairly recently, and i love it. i can't wait till the movie comes out! everyday i check this website to see if they posted new pictures from the movie or new information from the seventh book: it's maddening! and of course, every day, there's nothing about the new book or movie. *cries*.
Anyways, i'm almost done with school *almost!* and after that, i'm thinking of doing written communication and theater (i love theater and acting! i want to be an actress, but since it's probably impossible, i'll be taking written comm. as well, coz i like that too )
Anyways, random facts about me: i play violin, i like swimming, movies... and all that kind of stuff.
And btw, i've just been sorted into ravenclaw. Is it just me, or are the common rooms rather boring and unwelcoming? i mean i said hi, and the only person who answered answered two days later to talk about luna lovegood... hmmm... is it maybe that the ravenclaws aren't very friendly?

Just a note on the house threads - I guess the aren't really common rooms as such, since they're more about discussing the house itself than chatting to fellow Ravies. This thread (the Newbies Common Room) is more relaxed and about getting to know people, so don't think anyone was being unwelcoming. If two days go by it's simply because no-one has thought of something interesting to say about Ravenclaw, or hasn't visited the thread or whatever.

If you find them boring... well, that's a matter of opinion, I guess. Not that there's anything wrong with not liking the house threads, but they are solely there to discuss the house and its significance and role in Hogwarts, and the Ravenclaw thread has been producing some interesting conversation recently.

Anyways, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me or any member of the Wizengamot or Head Aurors. We'd be happy to help!

I don't think i've heard of scarbaro, but i *think* i know where sudbury is lol. Have you visited any place else in Canada? like ottawa for instance? *if you didn't... dont. lol or at least don't bother staying there more than a week, coz besides shopping malls, there's nothing much to see! MONTREAL on the other hand ROCKS! best canadian city i remember visiting recently lol!

To capricorn: i've been playing for more than 12 years, and i have played in orchestras too! i'm actually coordinating the music in my theater troop (well it's with the school, but they hired a prfessional - for once!- so it's going to be fun!
Although i don't do bands: partly because nobody else in my school plays an instrument at *aproximatively* the same level as me, so that's kind of sad...

well i've really only been to niagra falls/toronto.
my sister gets to go to canada alot.
she frequently takes road trips up there.
she's really lucky. heh.
we have alot of awesome canadian friends.
but ofcourse, moost canadians are awesome.
just from the fact that they're canadian.

If you do a search for Sorting Hat and tell it to search titles only, you will get a narrow list of threads. This is one of the threads. If you are having problems with the Search Function let me know and I can help. I had difficulty with it when I was a Newbie.

I'm thirteen, from Western Australia, and I'm at that very impressionable age So I can't take responsibility for my madness

I love reading and writing, music, and drawing. My dream is to one day become a fashion designer, writer or actress (yep, I like things simple...not too out of reach or high profile )

I play the piano, very badly, but at least I try, so I should get points for that. I have a feeble singing voice, but I'd give anything to be able to sing well, and I'm abhorrent at math. Curse who ever invented math!

Also, I have a habit of rabbiting on a bit, so by the end of a conversation, I'll be wondering where the topic came from!
I have annoyingly curly short hair, it's really really annoying, and strange people come up to me in shopping centre's and pat my head, it's REALLy scary, so be thankful you don't have curly hair...I actually know two people that've put their names down for a hairtransplant with me...of course, I refused, and ran away screaming... but hey, I'm flattered.

I recently just started highschool, and I'm kinda sad because I'm at that inbetween stage with friends, where you're kinda losing touch with Primary school friends, but not super dooper wooper close to your highschool friends, so I feel a bit sad... Anyways, I have no idea whatsoever as to why I'm sprouting all this dribble. I apologise, cause really, I am quite mental.

I haven't actually said anything about Harry Potter! Whoops, sorry. Well, I love it, it's really amazed me, (the books) because they've become to wonderfully complicated...When I first started reading them, I was just thinking "Oh, it's all good and nice, Harry just needs to wave his wand and kill Voldy..." and now...WHOAH! it's so awesomely intricate! i love it! I really don't like Dumbledore...he got a bit full of himself in the last few books... And he needs a haircut. I like Luna...cos I can relate to her, but she's no where near as mental as I am.

(i'm not exactly the right person to show you what to do) but it's basically that you have a forum with different threads on different subjects, and you can post a reply to a subject that interests you. You can view what other people posted, and you can also send Personal messages, have a profile and everything (which you can edit by clicking on "my control" or th other links on the top right corner of your page. This website is really cool, because it has all the information on Harry Potter-related news or news boutr the actors, crew, JKR... And there are lots of cool threads, some of which are speculating what will come in the last book...

Well Hello, I'm semi-new here. I don't post that often, so I could be considred new. I'm a big Potter fan. I first saw the first two films before I started wondering what was all this Harry Potter mania about? I went and purchased the first two books since I had saw the films and I immediately purchased the rest of them. As with any good fantasy tale, reading the books or watching the films help to give you an escape from the ordinary. I have found that nothing else does that for me better than HP. I've read the six books through entirely back to back countless amounts of times. The only kick to that is, I'm 28yrs old. Yeah, i know. I'm an old man, hahahaha. I'm on here with some pretty young people, but I think that's what makes HP so unique, because it crosses time lines like a time turner and builds bridges like a good charm spell. So I hope to increase my posts on here in the near future and become a worthy member of Veritaserum.

Hi all! I am Ginny! That is part the reason for my username, other thing is Ginny and Hermione are my 2 Favourite girl characters! I have read all 6 HP books 3 times.I got them as a 8th B-Day present and I first got into them when I was in third grade, I read the first chapter of the first one, and I stubbornly said it was boring. I saw the first movie and loved it, so I read the book and loved it. I then waited, and saw the 2nd movie loved it then read the 2nd book. Shortly followed the 3rd, and 4th. I was hooked! I bought the fifth book right when it came out. I read the first few pages and put it off for months. Then I decided to read it and I loved it. (Though my eyes were red when Sirius died) I the bought the 6th book also the day it came out and read it. I am now in seventh grade, and like I said, have read the books 3 times each.Curently, I am not-so-patiently waiting for the fifth movie and 7th book!

But now about me...I am 12, almost 13, and I am currently living in IL. I have pretty good grades, and a sense of humor, and a good personality. I love all 6 of my pets, 2 ferrets, 2cats, 1 dog, and 1 guinea pig! I also love performing arts. You know, Singing, Dancing, and Acting. I play the clarinet. I loved Harry Potter before it became famous! I got the first three for christmas because my Grandma said i'd like them, and i did! I love the books, but i'm not such a big fam of the movies. Don't get me wrong, Dan, Rupert and Emma a great-but the directors ans screewriters need to stick to the story plot more, and not leave so much out. (I don't care if the movie has to be 6 hours long-i want more!)

Hi im anthea and im a strange girl. i type everything that comes into my mind, because i cant seem to do that in real life. I type just for the fun of it, and I type my feelings into the computer, so i don't keep everything inside. I have a type C personality, which means I only do what I'm forced to do, only if I don't like to do it, and I am in a very difficult school, and I got lots of homework to do, and I even have to write an essay on halloween! did you know that halloween is actually hallos eve? no, its not the gold ring on angel's head...(halo)
though that was my answer to the teacher's question...Am i typing too much? I am a nerd, sometimes. other times, I make little mistakes that lead to a big mess. I love history, and I would defineitly love to take history of magic classes, except when the proffesor might talk monotone. I love history. My grades so far in 2 years have been: 100, 100, 98, 100, 95, 100, 99 ,100,100,97 104, and 104. I just took a test yesterday, and i feel like i did well. My parents are strict. They think i am slow and worthless, just because I got a 90 on a test. what have i ever done to them? I love to read, factual books are nice, but I love fantasy books the most. I also like to read books about relationships, to help me with my own. I love to read. Sometimes, my mom won't let me read. It is a rule that I can only read one book a week, or less. But since my grades in history are so high, my mom ordered 2 books from a catalog, $5.95 and $16.95, and she plans to by 13 books,$80, so she will have wasted about $103 dollars for books, and I am so happy. I just love to read. I'm
15 and I have a brother who is a pain. Speaking of pain, I can't seem to speel decidous correctly. Not ever. Not even now. Anther pain is that I've been grounded for reasons that I would not like to discuss... and the laptop is off limits, so I cannot go to type on it...

My name's Elle, and I'm from Australia, hence the username.
I'm two months under fifteen, and in year 10 at my school.

I love Harry Potter, and I owe HP for my two best friends. We've been in the same form since year seven, but only last year we realised that we shared a common passion for Harry Potter, and now we're best friends, and we talk about it all the time. I'm not kidding, All the time, and our other friends hate it!
Anyway, my favourite movie is the third one, and my favourite book is the fifth, even though I love the sixth because that's when Harry and Ginny get together! I'm a huge Harry and Ginny fan; they're perfect for each other, and whether they end up together or not, they're meant to be.
I'm also a Ron/Hermione shipper, and I do not understand Harry/Hermione shippers; there was never any hint of a romance there! Get over it already!

I'm Laina, 19 (20 on Dec. 2nd), from USA, and I should be getting ready for work now, but oh well.

I started reading the books when I in grade school (4th or 5th) and I still love them. I completly plan on going to the book 7 release party in full costume. I love Snape, hate Cho Chang, and think Fred and George are amazing. I support Slytherin completly. I don't care what side Snape is on, I still can't resist him.

Hey everyone! Nice to meet you all. My name's Allison, but i prefer Allie. I'm 17 and a senior in high school. I'm not looking forward to graduating at all. I already know most of my friends are going off to college miles away with their dreams all set and stone. I'm gonna miss them bunches. I'm not even sure what i want to be yet, only a few ideas in mind *cry*. I'm a major animal lover and i hate humans sometimes for selfishly killing them. Food i can sympothize with, but furs, skins, and other things just for decoration, absolutely not! I can act completely crazy at times. Hope thats ok!

I started reading the Harry Potter books in 5th grade and i've been buying the new ones the day they come out ever since. It's sad there's only one more book left, but i still can't wait for it to come out! My favorite houses are Gryffindor and Ravenclaw (I took the sorting hat quiz, but haven't gotten results yet) I'm hoping for one of those two My favorite of the books are PoA and HBP. Most of the time i love the books more than the movies (ex. LOTR trilogy) But for HP, it's such a tossup. I just love Dan Radcliffe! I can't tell you how many times people have told me they hated the movies and loved the books. I just don't get it. But i respect their opinion, nontheless.
