Dumbledore's wisdom reaches no end, and his words are always well-thought-out and provoke much inspiration. Can anyone find any more inspiring and wise ones, besides these?

"Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open"
"You will find that I will only truly have left the school when none here are loyal to me"
"Fear of a name increases fear of the thing itself"
"Indifference and neglect often do much more damage than outright dislike"
"It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities"
"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live. . . "
"If you want to know what a man is like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals"
"But old men are guilty if they forget what it was to be young … and I seem to have forgotten, lately"
"You fail to recognize that it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be!"
"Understanding is the first step to acceptance, and only with acceptance can there be recovery"
"Numbing the pain for awhile will make it worse when you finally feel it"
"You think the dead we loved ever truly leave us? You think that we don't recall them more clearly than ever in times of great trouble? Your father is alive in you, Harry, and shows himself most plainly when you have need of him. How else could you produce that particular Patronus? Prongs rode again last night"
"The consequences of our actions are always so complicated, so diverse, that predicting the future is a very difficult business indeed"
"There are all kinds of courage. It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends"
"The truth. It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution"
"After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure"
~Anyone got anymore? happy.gif
Dumbledore's_Most_Faithful

I think that this quote : Fear of a name increases fear of the thing itself : was said by Hemrinoe a few times, in the second book, I believe. Where is that quote from Dumbledore in the book? I would much liek to go re-read if, if I have forgetten.

Albus Dumbledore
I personally like the line: "Naturally, naturally... but in essence divided?"

It is so secretive and mysterious that line that it must be included among the great!

Dumbledore's_Most_Faithful- The line you speak of is indeed said by Dumbledore. They had Hermione say it in the movie, most likely because it was easier to find a way for her to say it, rather than Dumbledore. They do that often in the movies, switch character's quotes...
marrymerupert
I like all those quotes that you gave.. however one of them was actually said by Sirius, not DD. The quote "If you want to know what a man is like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals" was said by Sirius in GOF pg. 525. I love that quote, I had it as my msn name for months! But all the other ones are fantastic... I love Dumbledore!
Spencer Potter
My favourite ever in all the books by DD was "We are strong as we are united and as weak as we are divided." Very powerful.

I love that quote too! It is very powerful.
My personal favorites are in my signature.
They are:
"To the well organized mind, death is but the next great adventure." -Albus Dumbledore
and
"It’s the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more." -Albus Dumbledore
He is (or rather, was sad.gif ) so wise. smile.gif

Funny you should mention that one. Can you elaborate on that one? I could never understand what he meant exactly. Or was I not supposed tog et it?

My favorite all time is the Death is but the next great adventure line.

I love how smart Dumbledore is and wise. His quotes are, well, they are good! I love em.

yeah, just what I was going to say. Hermione's line right there. Smart girl. (unless she was quoting Dumbeldore... still smart girl)

"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live. . . "
Wow, that is so true! What a concept for all of us. My biggest dream is to get married and have a family of my own. I was "late" in getting a boyfriend for a few years, and for a time I dwelled on my jealousy of others for having what I wanted so desperately. And of course, I wasted a great deal of time and energy on those emotions instead of getting on with my life. That's a quote I'll remember every day of my life.
62442al_Man
Yes, that last one is very powerful. Another one of my favorite ones. It speaks to you. It says so much in so little words!
FilmGrath
"There are all kinds of courage. It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends"

This one is amazing. I find it's very true, even with me. When someone dislikes me, I love it; I fight back (fight meaning, I continue to act how they dislike it, cause I know it only makes me cooler). But to my friends I bend and mold to their ideas and wants. I hardly can find arguements to up hold my own thoughts if I'm arguing with a friend, but with an "enemy" my words are like steel. Crazy, but almost like my enemies more than my friends. huh.gif wink.gif

"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live. . . "
I also just love this quote, his words are so well thought out, I love his quotes!
twiggysun
I can't really remember any wise ones but yesterday I read a real funny one : From heron, Harry, I may be as woefully wrong as Humphrey Belcher, who believed the time was ripe for a cheese cauldron.
I just love the things Dumbledore says, he so wise but so funny at the same time...
He really is the greatest wizard there is ( or was...)

"Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory."
'

ooh I get chills when I read that one!
Spencer Potter
"Dark and Difficult times lie ahead Harry...." then something, something else, I like that one too. There was another one he said but gosh darnit, I cannot think of it, Ohwell get back to me. I also like the one Aguamenti said.
Ginny_Hermione
I have a few, even though all Dumbledores quotes are great, and profound!

"You will find that, I will have only truly have left this school when none here are loyal to me."

"It takes a great deal of courage to stand to your eninmies, but a great deal more to stand up to your friends."
That one is just so true, for everyone!

"Numbing the pain for awhile will make it worse when you finally feel it"
That one is true emotionally and physically.

"Prongs rode again last night."
Yes, there is more to that quote, but that part just gives me this weird feeling!

"Nitwit, Blubber, Oddment, Tweak."
That one just is so funny! It really makes me laugh! tongue.gif

Ginny! cool.gif
Aguamenti353
This isn't a wise one or serious, but its fun and I've always liked it:

"It's lucky it's so dark. I haven't blushed so much since Madam Pomfrey told me she liked my new earmuffs."

That one always makes me smile! smile.gif
Spencer Potter
nerd.gif Ha you turd tongue.gif I was just going to post that one. I dont know, its not technically a quote but it makes me feel warm when he welcomes everybody back to Hogwarts. Its pretty nice.
Aguamenti353
I found some more I really like....

"What we need...is more time." -PoA

"Ah music! A magic beyond all we do here!" -SS

"As much money and life as you want! The two things most human beings would choose above all-- the trouble is, humans do have a knack of choosing precisely those things that are worst for them." -SS

Aguamenti I really like these quotes too.
Seriouslysirius
To be honest i think all of Dumbledores quotes are great so i wont list them all now.
Half of them don't actually make sense but still there great.
Like, " Nitwitt, Blubber Oddment and Tweak." I think that's it any way. It doesn't make any sense but it's great.
Aguamenti353
Thanks, the_animagus! smile.gif They are really good quotes. Dumbledore has so many of them here are a few more I found and really liked....

*From OotP

"You do care...You care so much you feel as though you will bleed to death with the pain of it."

"By all means continue destroying my possessions. I daresay I have too many."

"Like the fact that the person Sirius cared most about in the world was you. Like the fact that you were coming to regard Sirius as mixture of father and brother. Voldemort knew, already, that Sirius was in the Order, that you knew where he was- but Kreacher's information made him realize that the one person whom you would go to any lengths to rescue was Sirius Black." That one gives me chills happy.gif

"I feel I owe you another explanation, Harry. You may, perhaps, have wondered why I never chose you as prefect? I must confess...that I rather thought...you had enough responsibility to be going on with."
Ginny_Hermione
I found this one in GoF because I finished reading it again.

"Oh, I would never dream I know all of Hogwarts, Igor. Only this morning, for instance, I took a wrong turning on the way to the bathroom and found myself in a beautifully proportioned room I have never seen befor, containing a really rather magnificent collection of chamber pots. When I went back to investigate more closely, I discovered the room had vanished. But I must keep an eye out for it. Possibly it is only accessible at 5:30 in the morning. Or it may only appear at the quater moon-or when the seeker has an exceptionally full bladder."
Dumbledore was of course talking about the room of requirment.

"If your determination to shut your eyes will carry you as far as this, Cornelius, then we have reached a parting of the ways. You must act as you see fit and I will act as I see fit."

"The only one whom I intend to work against, is Lord Voldemort. If you are against him, then we remain on the same side."

"I have gone temporairly deaf and haven't any idea what you said, Harry." said Dumbledore twiddling his thumbs, and staring at the ceiling.

These are some quotes I found in GoF, and I love them all! I will reply with any more!

well there are loads of quotes aren't there?? here are some of my favourites... ost of them have proably been said before but oh well! biggrin.gif unsure.gif

"You will find that I will only truly have left the school when none here are loyal to me"

"Fear of a name increases fear of the thing itself"

"It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities"

Ginny_Hermione
"By all means continue destroying my possessions. I daresay I have too many."
I really like that one too.

This one might just be in the 4 movie, but here it is:
"I never liked these curtains, in my 4 year, I set fire to them. On accident of course."
I may have gotten the year wrong.

Until I think of more,
Ginny cool.gif

Hmmm... I think thoes quotes is nice: It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities"
Its very inspired biggrin.gif
Hilly
Hmm, I had a really, really good one, but I lost my train of thought! laugh.gif I'll have to think about it until it comes back to me. It was really one of my favorites too. Only if I could remember what it was... dry.gif

QUOTE
Hmmm... I think thoes quotes is nice: It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities"

I absolutely adore this quote! It is up there in my favorites. It is rather inspiring, yes, but very true when you think about it. Those who have nothing and try to do everything are so much more inspiring than those who have everything and do nothing.

QUOTE
"By all means continue destroying my possessions. I daresay I have too many."
I really like that one too.

As do I! It really shows Dumbledore's personality - Keeps calm when those around him are infuriated.

QUOTE
"If you want to know what a man is like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals"

So very, very true.

QUOTE
"As much money and life as you want! The two things most human beings would choose above all-- the trouble is, humans do have a knack of choosing precisely those things that are worst for them."

I love this one because it is precisly true. Even if you don't want to admit it.

Ahh, Dumbledore is such a wise and knowledgable man...
Dementika
"By all means continue destroying my possessions. I daresay I have too many."

I really enjoyed that one! It made me think: if i was facing a scene of someone that throws and breaks most of my things i will probably stopped him or shouted or do something! But tippically DD with his calmness smile.gif

Of course i have a lots of favourite quots of what dumbledore said but most of them you wrote it down and if i will go and bring the books here at my computer and start quoting from dumbledore it will probably take me hours!
Ginny_Hermione
This one is funny to me!
"No, I was merely reading the muggle magazines, I do ove knitting patterns!"

"I take my hat off to you-or I would, if I were not afraid showering you in spiders."

"I think the word 'fiasco' would be a good one here."

Those were a few in the sixth book. If I have anymore, I will post them!

Ginny happy.gif
x0xjewlyx0x
i personally like the quote by dumbledore in the 3rd movie: "A child's voice though honest and true is meaningless to those who have forgotten how to listen."
Ginny_Hermione
I like this quote in the third movie. I think it was only in the movie, and I probably got some words wrong. happy.gif
"For now let him sleep. In dreams we enter a world entirley our own. Let him climb the the highest mountain, or swim the deepest ocean."
For some reason I really like that one.

Peace All,
Ginny cool.gif
Slytherings Real Heir
I to like that one, but the one`s like the best are "You will find that I will only truly have left the school when none here are loyal to me" and "After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure" biggrin.gif , because he makes death to sound like something exciting and not scary, he is a true inspiration and leader.
Manon1993
"when you have to choose between what is right and what is easy"...

My personal favourite, though everything Dumbledore says (said???) is amazing.
annesches
i just wanted to add some:

my favorite would be "nitwit, oddment, blubber, and tweak", as good old ron sometimes said to his idol "he is mental". lol
well there are lots of dumbledore's quotes that were truly inspiring. i just don't have the book at the moment so "pip pip".
12quidditch_star5
Some ones I really like are:
"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live."
"It is our choices, Harry, that show what we really are, far more than our abilities."
"Dark and difficult times lie ahead Harry, soon we must all face a choice between what is right, and what is easy."
and my all-time favorite
"Harry is the best hope we have. Trust him."
biggrin.gif
MissRandom
One of my favorite things that Dumbledore says is from the very first book:

"My brain surprises even me sometimes."

laugh.gif
After the Burial
Yes that line was rather humourous. However, I prefer:

"Very astute, Harry. But the mouth organ was only ever a mouth organ."
HP#1_wee_lil'
I love Dumbledore! He rocks! Although he would probably say ' You have a liking for a few well chosen words and touch of wisdom.' or something like that. He is just so random lol I love all his quotes.

My favourites have to be

'nitwit, oddment, blubber, and tweak'

' it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be! '

when Harry says ' Don't worry Professor' and DD says ' I'm not worried Harry, I'm with you.' I think that's so sweet.

Some from the movies I like are when DD walks into the dormitory in GoF and says ' I never liked these curtains, set them on fire in my fourth year. By accident of course.' It's just so random lol

and also in PoA

' Professor he's free, we did it.'

' Did what? Goodnight.'

I think it might be the face he puts on at that bit .

QUOTE
"No, I was merely reading the muggle magazines, I do ove knitting patterns!"
QUOTE
"I take my hat off to you-or I would, if I were not afraid showering you in spiders."
QUOTE
"I think the word 'fiasco' would be a good one here."

I love all of those quotes too. It's the casual way he comes out with things like that that makes them so funny I think. But I mostly like his inspirational wisdom quote because that was DD was about, he just knew so many things and new how to make a bit of advice sound really cool.
Jenzy Black
Dumbledore is simply awesome. There are so many quotes that i adore, here are few:

"Indifference and neglect often do much more damage than outright dislike."
"It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."
"You fail to recognize that it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be!"
"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live. . . "
"There are all kinds of courage. It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends."
"The truth. It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution."
"After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure."
"The only one whom I intend to work against, is Lord Voldemort. If you are against him, then we remain on the same side." Whenever i read this line, I feel so oddly brave as if he there, then everything is all right.
Sofia_Snape
Aww this is all sentimental there are some really good quotes

This is abridged and I don't actually know where it comes from

"Old age, in short. One day, perhaps, it will happen to you; if you are lucky"

I like it how old age starts out as a bad thing but then he adds "if you are lucky" I just think it's nice
