The home page has just posted that Walt Disney might build a Harry Potter Theme Park! They said even though it's been at least 2 (yrs) years since they last discussed it, they're still thinking about it! Wouldn't that be awesome?!

That would be so cool...but why would walt disney be building a harry potter theme park if harry potter movies are by warner brothers..wouldn't it make more sence that warner brothers is making a them park or a harry potter ride to their theme parks? or did i miss something and harry potter does have some thing to do with disney?

Warner Brothers bought the film rights to Harry Potter. Other rights (such as a theme park) should still be for sale by JK (assuming she would sell them). It would be possible for Walt Disney to build a Harry Potter theme park. I do not know why they would. They are immensely popular right now in the US, but how popular would they be in the future? A theme park is a major financial investment. I think it would be more likely that they build a roller coaster named after Harry Potter.

Well I don't know when or how it's going to be made but I know one thing.. whoever does it is going to make ALOOOOOT of money.. and that's reason enough to make a HP theme park lol. I know I sure as hell am going to go lol. I know you all will probably see me there lol.

I'd go to a theme park based on the Harry Potter characters. It would be great to have a Quiddich ride or a Voldemort roller coaster or better yet huanted house type ride.

Oct 18 2006, 10:52 PM
This would be great... i wonder where it would be? Weren't they going to go with Disney? It would probable cost less if it was seperate, and it would attract people to a new area too! JKR will probably get paid a BOATLOAD for the rights, even more if they exclusive. I really think that it would be great. Would the ride be a battle with Voldemort, or would it take you through harry's life. I wonder...

EDIT: sorry, i forgot. Will they wait for the new book to come out befre they start development? I think it would be better.

WOW ive thought about this loads before! ooo they could have a rifle hut where you have to shoot the death eaters, a scary ghost train azkaban ride with dementors, yeah i love the voldie rollercoaster thing too. what else? hey how about diagon alley and hogsmeade where there can be a honeydukes? and some sort of broomstick ride. ooo and a hippogriff ride!!! yeah im all out of ideas now... trust me if they make this park i will actually buy a tent and live there
yeah im sad i have more ideas- they should have triwizard thing where you can go to the yule ball and go in the maze. and they should have a giant slide based in the chamber of secrets where you come out where the basilisk came out. hey there has to be a creepy forbidden forest thing! and how about a water ride with the durmstrang boat? and a train ride on the hogwarts express!
ive just read back and my ideas are soooo random and weird. im a strange strange person..

No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No!!
They musn't! It would be sooooo lame and stupid in my opinion. It would be so childish and for really little kids, and all those HarryPotterisonlyforlittlekids people would have a field day. As well, people have a bad hbit of turning fantasy novels into musicals.
If they do that, they will butcher it. If they do, I'll sue.

i am sorry to say i disagree with you, Mistress of Magic.
personally, i think it is a great idea to have a Harry Potter theme park. though, i am wondering why Disney is considering it...seeing as the movies are done by warner brothers..

i really hope that they do make a harry potter theme park. if they do i think they should have an exact replica of diagon alley from the movies including weasleys wizard whezzes. how cool would that be!? i cant wait to see if theyre going to make one or not!! maybe walt disney want to make the theme park because theyve reallised how much money they could make form it? im not sure though i'll think about it.

It seems really cool! But my favorite thing wouldn't tbe the possible Whomping Willow roller coaster I have heard rumors about, it would be a Diagon Alley, Knockturn Alley, or a Hogsmeade. That would be so cool! I am sure they would model it out of a child's eye view, but its better than nothing. I would definetely go.

I think this would be a great idea as long as the interest in Harry Potter remains. Like others I wonder why this is a Disney venture when the movies are Warner Bros.
I think it would be good to have a ride based on the circular room in the DoM. A great Hall to eat in and deffinately a giant chess room.

I dont think I'd like a Harry Potter theme park becasue it would probably mostly be based on the movies, and the movies tend to waver off track and leave out important parts to the plot, and my friend for one, never liked Harry Potter because she didn't get where the story was going. Hang on, sorry

Well, anyways, I don't like the idea of a theme park, because it just means more plastic merchandise that has nothing to do with the real story in the book.

i am sure it would be lame if they had little kiddy ride's but if they though about it and ca,me up will great ideas like 62442al_Man had about a whomping willow rollercoaster ride then YES COUNT ME IN!!! i don't know if it would work as a theme park one it's own maybe like a world at disney..you know how they have the space world area and the wild west world and so on...areas that are big enough to be theme parks on their own but they are in a larger theme park if you get me.

Hi,
All you Fans will be thrilled to hear that a Harry Potter Theme Park will open in December in the Canadian province of Newfoundland. While some raise eyebrows at this location, Canada's Prime Minister Cornelius Fudge notes that Newfoundland is well-placed for guests from both London and the US.
An entire local village will be re-styled as Diagon Alley and -- to maintain ambiance 24 hours a day-- locals have agreed to dress in Harry Potter-appropriate garments at all times. "The natives are glad to do it," Project Manager Gilderoy Lockhart enthuses. "We're coaching them in English accents too."
Guests at the Harry Potter Theme Park will lodge at the luxury Hogwarts Resort. Insiders worry that the famous moving staircases may not be functional by opening date, but Technical Manager Arthur Weasley pooh-poohs such fretting: "Our computer wizard, Hagrid, has my complete confidence."
No Harry Potter Theme Park could be complete without Quidditch, and the ride uses a state-of-the-art levitation system. "This baby makes Mission Space look like a lullaby," opines Lockhart.
Personally i cant believe they've got A wizarding world with Ministry of magic a Minister of magic and a Diagon alley and all the shops and all the shop owners and a quidditch stadium

and Hogwarts and Hogsmade and etc.
Cant Wait!

And also lozza-mc i partly agree with you but it might help people to understand (maybe like your friend) what the basic plot is and about the magical world in General.
But it might also help people to understand what it feels like to be in the world of Harry Potter.

Ime sorry to bother you white owl, but, J.K Rowling still has all the rights of Harry Potter, Warner Bros.TM only has the film rights, so it is still in Rowling's power to decide and they have already started building it, they started construction on 1st December 2005 and are well underway by now.

The idea of a Harry Potter theme park. Is just amazing. I could really see it happening. Though i'm not sure if they'll go through with it. I think the park, would sell millons. It would be a hugh sucess. So they should really do it. Fingers crossed i say.
Oh, i didn't read that bit up there. They are constructing it oh wow.

This story would seem highly unlikly for one how does anyone know how much peoplelike haryy potter? and for how long would they continue to like it? and i for one do not think that some one would invest millions upon millions of dollars on sheer fact that people like it now. im sure like all things that with time peoples interest in h.p. will fade and most people will not like the storys as much or not have enough interest in the it. but however i would personally be very pleased if they built a h.p. theme park im sure no matter the distance i would some how find a way to visit it...

I think it would be awesome - as long as it's done well. Can't you just imagine Disneyland's Main St., only Diagon Alley-style?
I think it's definitely a possibility and would be a huge financial success. I would have expected it to happen earlier, though, while people are in the big Potter-frenzy mode. I mean, after the last book comes out will it still be as popular? I'm sure I'll still love the books to death, but there won't be the same anticipation of the next books and all the debate. It would probably only be successful for the die-hard fans (think Trekkies), like us.
I'd love it, anyway.

I agree though, as long as it is well done. Wow though, imagine if they did and it was really well done? With the music and Floretean Fortes...(Whats it called? lol) ice cream parlor. And a wand shop, only make it souveniers, or an animal shop, only make it stufft animals. And a candy shop... Wow, that would be awesome.

I think that is is more likely that a HP area will be added to existing Disney theme parks. I think that this will minimise the risk on Disneys part and also mean that both the traditional Disney areas and new HP areas will benefit from customers to both. In principle this will be cool though. I have often thought it would be cool to sit in the three broomstciks and have a butterbeer or two

while reading the daily prophet.

i had thought about this a little while ago and while creating a whole theme park for harry potter might be going out on a limb i would love it. I imagined that you would travel through the books living the story as if you were harry. board the hogwarts express, face the troll, quidditch, stopping voldemort, then you move to the second book. finally you reach the end where you defeat voldemort. then of course you have to have diagon alley and hogsmeade. the ministry of magic! it would be so amazing to see those things come to life defeat voldemort yourself. avenge sirius' death, save the day!! i dont think the rides would be too childish. just like the books the rides will be more mature depending on what book it came from. oh if only...

wow!! i can see it now

a Harry Potter theme park would be great.
can you see it? the ghost train would be full of Death Eaters and bad guys. and then you would have a real tall ride that would be the Astronmy Tower and at the top you would have a flash of green and... yeah

erm maybe there could be a water ride that could be like the lake and involve the squid and merepeople or something.

i can't describe my ideas. but it would be great and i am sure that they would make a profit. hey maybe you could have Gringgotts... you know the actual carriage they were in to get money... that would be cool.

Or a haunted house only make it the DoM...
I would that!!

i think a theme park would be really cool. but i think if they made it they should base it off the books instead of the movies. sure you could take things out of the movies as ideas for how to make the ride look but if they based it off the book and what happens in the book it would be better. the movies add things in or leave things out that are in the books so i think it wouldnt be right to have it based off the movies. thats just my opinion though

well

we all seem to like the idea.
ooo a harry potter ride? yeah but what will that be like i wonder...
a hunted house.... like the shreiking shack
a vertul (can't spell) reality ride where it looks anf feels like you are flying a hippogriff or broom.
or a ride that could be called "Wingardium Leviosa" and it takes you really high up and you have a viceover coming from some speakers saying the spell.

a few more of my ideas.

I"ve heard nothing new about Jo negotiating the rights to use the character descriptions for an amusement park, but I think any amusement park could fit in a Harry Potter ride of some sort and make a go of it, at least for awhile. Universal is very good at that. Their ride based on the Mummy movies was awesome.

That would be fantastic!
In that way we will remember the gorgeous magical world of Harry Potter forever and ever! The story deserves it, and the fans needs it ; )
I would so go there : P
How about a "Hogwarts for a day" thing, where you pay to enter and stay inside the area for a day. They could serve food in the Great Hall, and teach you stuff in different classrooms. You could check out the common rooms, the quiddich field, the lake etc.
That is my idea of an ideal Harry Potter theme park ;D
By the way there was a Harry Potter haunted house on a local amusement park here in Norway. I liked it, so I would definitely like a big scale international Harry Potter ride etc. Too bad it will be so far away (from me).

wow it would be amazing if they built it! it would be like a dream come true for soo many fans across the world - i just hope they dont dissapoint us all!
the only thing is - now dont kill me i have nothing against you personally i think your amazing - why is it being built in orlando, i mean harry potter is british and all? i know ther are millions of fans across the world, i just thought it would make sense if it was in britain, im just worried if it is built in orlando that i probably wont ever get to go to it - but yes i have realisd that that would be the same problem for american fans too if it were built in britain- i dont really have a point by saying that but its just something iv been thinking about...
but still lets hope they actually build it, no matter where it is in the world

oooh just thinking about it...
*iv just read 'megan_de_lioncourt' suggestion about having various theme parks across the world - like with Disneyland - i think thats a great idea! it solves my issue anyway

I can understand what you're trying to say *Priori Incantatem* and I agree in a way... only I think my argument differs a little bit. Firstly let me begin with the fact that I live in the middle of America. All that we have here are places like Six Flags... We don't have the amazing Universal Studios and such that are always in Orlando or California. I understand why they plot the parks there, but it just gets old hearing about another place that they're building on the other side of the country. Although I shouldn't complain because (1) I'm completely exstatic that they're even building a HP theme park and (2) I should be glad that I don't live in Hawaii, Alaska or another country which would be even further away. So I guess I'll just stop now.

OKay workaholic_1231, I can see where you're coming from. Every decent theme park seems to be in Florida.
But what really ticks me off is that Harry Potter is a British institution, so why isn't is being built in the UK?
Is it the weather that's stopping that, the space or getting the tourists to come here?
Granted, we don't have great weather but it doesn't rain all the time. The space, well there are acres and acres of brown field sites that the government would just love to sell for a reason other than for new houses. And, our tourism industry is booming. You just have to go to Stratford upon avon on any wet windy weekend of the year, and it's full of Japanese, American and every other nationality that you can think of. So build it near Stratford I say.
The truth is, it comes down to the mighty dollar, even though the pound is a tad mightier at the moment, let's face it, money talks and it would cost an awful lot more millions of pounds to build than dollars.

I just read the news about the Harry Potter Theme Park! That is like the most amazing thing ever! I only wish they would build it elsewhere besides Florida...I live like 20 plus hours from Florida, so that would be quite a trek for me and my kids...But mind you when the park opens my kids and I will be there!
I often wondered why they are not bulding a sister park over in the UK? Does the UK not already have a major amusement park in Blackpool, England? I believe I watched a special on the Travel Channel about it once, a documentary about the greatest rides in the world????

I think the theme park is going to be AWESOME! There really should be a UK park though. I don't mind that it'll be in Florida though. I have an aunt who lives just outside of Orlando and works at Disney. Besides I live in Georgia, and its only like a 5-7 hour drive(traffic dependant of course). So it works out really well for me. Maybe we could get together a group from VTM to go all together, see what they can do for group rates and the such...might not be a bad idea!

Wherever they are going to build the themepark, to hell I care. I know I'm going to limit my expenses (although I know I won't be able to stop buying things I need at school) so when my money is big enough, I'll fly to Florida or UK and go to that themepark with my Mom.
That would be the greatest day of my life, of which i am sure.
