Ok,so I was wondering...how will Luna help Hogwarts defeat the Death Eaters(if they even willl)? She helped Ginny and the others in OoTP in the Ministry Of Magic, and a few other times.

Now...

How will she help them claim a victory over the dreaded Death Eaters? What do you guys think?

Hey there. The fanfiction section really isn't the best place for this topic. I'm going to move this thread to the pre-book seven forums to make it easier for people to find. Try to pay attention next time to where you're placing your topics. We've got the forums fairly well organized, so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out where to put your topics in the future. If you've got a question about it, though, please PM a staff member.

Well she might of been a big part of the helping on the DoM, but it might not be the same in Book 7. Off and On I guess, but I suppose she could help because of DD's Army and all.
UnknownLocket
I'm not sure exactly what Luna's role will be but I hope that she has a somewhat major part. For some reason, I feel as if she is a special character and she has some kind of secret magical power that will help Harry. i donno, but I think that her character is being overlooked.
Herm-own-ninny809
Well we all want Luna to have a big role in HP7. I mean, she's Luna. She's soo quirky and Im pretty sure we all love her cookyness.
UnknownLocket
Yeah, she is quirtky, and that's why I like her. She is my favorite character in the whole series in fact. Because she's so strange and her parents were even stranger, it has kind of led me to believe that there is something more to her character, kind of like Neville. I think that she can help Harry a lot, and she definatley knows many things, though some is pretty wierd and possibly not true. But hey, maybe she can provide some insight for the readers. You never know.

i definatly think we will see luna again, probably along with neville somewhere in the book.

i think they will either help to find a horcrux or be in the final battle with harry, ron, hermione and the order because they will probably try to avenge nevilles parents by fighting bellatrix or another death eater

i think she is important because she really cares about harry, because she was part of the DA and was upset when it disbanded. i am sure we will see luna again.
potterchic1191
ok, for one, I LOVE LUNA, and im almost positive she will have a major part in the next book. I mean, think about it, She and Harry were the only ones to hear the whispering from behind the veil. She and Harry seem to have a connection. She also seems to be wise, definetly crazy kooky, but wise in a way taht has yet to be revealed. *not to mention i am like twisting my arm off in hopes that Harry and Luna will get together. They just seem to me like an ultimate power duo.* Not that im taking away fromt he golden trio, at all. But I see those two going far.

UnknownLocket
Yeah, exactly. Harry and Luna definately do have a connection. And who doesn't love Luna? She's strange, unique, and very interesting. I know for sure and hope that she plays a role in defeating Voldemort. She'll be right next to the trio fighting and doing anything possible to help.
irishwitch
Luna is a mysterious yet fascinating topic. From just seeing her role in other parts of the series one is likely to surmise that she will play a role in the final book. However, I'm not sure what that will be but it does seem likely that she will join the trio as will Neville and Ginny to fight with the order to defeat the death eaters and LV. I personally would like to see more of her, she does seem to have this strange characteristic that makes her so enthralling to read about.
trevors_protector
I think luna is very certain to show up in the next book, because when i first ended reading OotP for the first time, i relized how much of a rle luna had played....i think JRK had the feeling that a new character needed to connect with the final fight in book seven, and now im almost positive that that final character is luna. biggrin.gif
H&J=Love
i dont think she will help at all.

I think Luna is an AWESOME character and I think she'll have a pretty major part because JKR wouldn't have put her in the series at all if she didn't have a major part..... Like Neville for example......when Neville was in the first books he didn't really have a major reason for being there he was just another classmate to Harry but then when Harry found out that Neville was almost the "Chosen One" then he became a major character I think the same will happen with Luna (well not that she could be the "Chosen One" thing but you get my point!!)
lp_supastar
In another forum, fourletterobscenity wrote about a theory to do with Luna's mother and her death. The theory was that Luna's mum discovered a Horcrux and may have died during the experiment because of it (I havent got the direct quote here...sorry!). Its a bit odd, but I like it - so maybe Luna's role will be to discover the truth about her mum's death and then the Horcrux to help Harry. I mean, she might not know the full details about her mum's death because she was only 9 at the time, and JK doesn't add characters into one book for kicks (as Kelso2010 mentioned about Neville's role). Sorry if it sounds a little far-fetched to you tongue.gif

POSSIBLE SPOILER MATERIAL

I just finished re-reading Order of the Phoenix with my son, and I paid particular attention to Harry and Luna's chance meeting when Harry is trying to kill time instead of going to the end of term feast. I think there is a serious piece of symbolism there, and although it doesn't necessarily predict the outcome of deathly hallows, it certainly raises some intriguing possibilities.

In particular, I was focusing on this portion of the conversation:

"Are you sure you don't want me to help you look for your stuff?" he said.

"Oh no," said Luna. "No, I think I'll just go down and have some pudding and wait for it all to turn up....It always does in the end....Well, have a nice holiday, Harry."

I think the most important words here are "It always does in the end...." The context of this conversation was that every year, students at Hogwarts steal Luna's belongings, and hide them. And every year Luna puts up a notice asking for her items back, and presto! They all come back.

Now let's look at what Harry has lost....His mother, his father, his godfather, his mentor, all taken - stolen - from Harry by Voldemort and the Death Eaters. The obvious symbolism to me is that in the end of Deathly Hallows, somehow all of these people that Harry has loved and lost will come back to him, and I predict that Luna will be there when they do.
UnknownLocket
Aww, that's sweet. I like it. happy.gif That builds more to the idea of the connection Harry and Luna have. I feel that she knows him on a different level than the other characters do. They both have experienced loss, can see thestrals, and heard the voices beyond the veil. She's so unique and likable, and with such a strong connection to the hero, she just has to have a big or reasonable role in the last book.

Also, that idea about Luna's mom's death connected to the discovery of an horcrux is interesting.
pumpkinjuice
I like the connection of Luna's attitude towards missing things, and Harry's missing things. But I was thinking that what Harry needs to find is the horcruxes. It would be nice to think of his lost people returning to him (and maybe they might, via communication through the veil, that Luna can also hear through); but might be interesting if Luna has some capacity to help Harry find the horcruxes, to draw them to himself just as Luna's objects always seem to return. Especially since they are little-known things that decent wizards avoid thinking about. Her family is unphased by such taboos, tho it is clear they are not dark.

I was just thinking about the moon and Lupin for another thread, and started to wonder why Luna was given the name meaning moon. Hmmm....

At the very least, Luna's mom's experiment may yet turn out to be instructive to Harry in some way. Even if she wasnt experimenting on a horcrux object (and she might have been, given that the Luna is a Ravenclaw), the process of experimentation Luna may be able to describe could be informative.

Does anyone else find it curious that when calling the match, Luna gets the Quidditch player's name utterly wrong, using two alternate names that sound like "bilbo baggins"?
Ginevra_hena
Well, this is almost certain that Luna should not be left out like that. She might help Harry cos she knows about things that ther people do not - most of the time it's just silliness, but like the veil, she may be having other bits of information that comes crucial to the finale in the DH.
Other than that, I guess, Ginny needs Luna for moral support if Harry's decided to move on - I am not too much of a H/L shipper, so I won't talk much about Luna hooking up with Harry, becasue this has been clear that they are just good friends - nothing more.

I do have one worry about Luna's role in DH and that is the possibility of conflict with Hermoine, over Ron. Luna has been taken with Ron for some time, at least in certain respects. Ron has said that she is growing on him and has been kind to her, which she may experience as an attractive force. Now that it looks like Ron and Hermoine might finally be acknowledging how they feel, that leaves Luna in a precarious position relative to Hermoine, and we know Hermoine is prone to jealousy and some cattiness in such situations.

It seems likely that Luna and relationships of some kind would be involved in DH if for no other reason than to provide a little relief and breathing room in the course of what I expect will be a very painful and tense book. The romance tensions have served as deflections from and illustrations of the other tensions in the books so far, so I imagine they will continue to do so. Love has to have its day somehow in DH.
sullivanbkeene
I suppose its plausible that there could be a Luna connection to Horcruxes, as opposed to his lost loved ones. However, unless I'm mistaken, the likelihood is that none of the horcruxes are likely to be things that had once belonged to Harry. So although he may have a need to find them, it would be different than Luna having to ask to get her personal possessions back.
bigkisses13
I also feel that Luna and Harry have a connection on the magical level. there is something about the two of them. they keep coming together and experiencing the same things. i like what sullivanbkeene had to say about Luna's lost things returning to her and that in the end she'll be there to help Harry's lost loved ones return to him. maybe she'll be able to bring Sirius back from beyond the veil. They could both hear the whispering. maybe that meant something...no I'm sure it meant something.

i originally came onto this topic to share something that i was wondering. in OotP Luna claims that she could see the thestrals ever since her "first day here [hogwarts]" but to me it seems like first years go straight to the boats while everyone else leaves the station in a different direction to get the carriages. I'm not sure. i was just curious. maybe Luna's first day her wasn't during her first year.
evanescence
i don't know if Luna will hepd harry but i have a very positive feeling for her. she must have an important role. don't forget that she is very wise and she might know somthing which will be somekind of vital for the continuation of the action.

Emrys
I didn't think of that connection between Luna's mother's death and the Horcruxes. Very intriguing! I do think we'll see Luna again. She reappeared in Book 6 to help fight the Death Eaters, and I think there is some depth to her we haven't truly seen yet. So far she's the weirdo who everyone makes fun of, and who takes it in stride, even commenting calmly that her stolen items will "turn up." Yet when DD dies, we read, "Luna's mouth trembled." Just as there are hidden reserves of emotion here, there are also hidden reserves of strength. I don't think she will destroy a Horcrux but I think she will factor in the final battle. I certainly hope so--she is growing on me as well. smile.gif

Luna really is a great character!! I think she will play a key role in DH becuase of the wierd information she spits out at random times. She seems to have a large amount of wisdom for someene her age even though she believes in these weird off the wall myths if you will. I think thats going to come into play at some point in book 7. I think Luna will say something we all will think is off the wall and then will turn out to be an integral piece of information. Maybe pertaining to horcruxes or VL i'm not sure but it seems to me something JK would do. Feed us an answer we are looking for through a character who tends to spout out crazy theories so we dissmiss it then when the characters need the information most they realize Luna gave them the info at an earlier time or she just volunteers information that turns out to be useful right when she says it as well. She has vast stores of random info something has to be important.

i originally came onto this topic to share something that i was wondering. in OotP Luna claims that she could see the thestrals ever since her "first day here [hogwarts]" but to me it seems like first years go straight to the boats while everyone else leaves the station in a different direction to get the carriages. I'm not sure. i was just curious. maybe Luna's first day her wasn't during her first year.

No, if you remember Harry's first year in PS, the first year students were led past a line of, "horseless carriages," to get to the boats. I wondered at the time whether they were horse-carriages being magically pulled, or if they were magic-powered automobiles that resembled the earliest cars in some way. Obviously it was the former.

Either way, Luna would have walked past the Thestrals on her first day at school. Probably she thought everyone could see them, then.

Like Harry in OotP, Luna sees and knows many things that are not commonly accepted. Harry feels sympathy, and always treats her politely, even though he doesn't believe her until he gets independent confirmation, as with the veil and the thestrals.

But I think there are two substantial things here.

1. There may be a deeper level of magical 'reality,' that most wizzards cannot sense, just as Muggles cannot sense much of the magical world. Perhaps it is acessible to elves or centaurs. Certainly parts of it, the veil and the thestrals, we 'know' exist. Some are revealed after one has certain experiences.

2. Even on the mundane level, something Luna knows, that no-one believes, may turn out to be true, and what is more, crucially important.

I just wonder, to what extent could Dumbledore, Voldemort, and Snape access these deeper levels?

I betcha Luna's gonna kiss Neville longbottom in the next book!!! wub.gif
UnknownLocket
I betcha she won't tongue.gif . JKR has already said that Luna and Neville will not hook up, so I strongly doubt that anything considered romantic, such as kissing, would happen between them.

But anyways, vandwnbytheriver, I like your idea about JKR feeding us answers through a character who is considered "weird" and doubted by the many interesting things she believes. It seems so JKR's style.

pumpkince, it's very likely that Luna likes Ron, but I personally don't think so or want it to happen.

SiriusB1214, I like the idea of another level of magical reality. It makes perfect sense with Luna and if it's possible that Harry can access it, it adds more to their connection.

I just like Luna a lot and really want her to have a reasonable role where she does something of significance.

Well,if she does it will not mean a thing.Sorry JKR said so sad.gif .I think she is a key part in killing LV,I mean why else is she here.
Emrys
Nah, I just can't picture someone like Luna having a romantic role in Book 7. It would be too easy and JKR is not a writer to take the easy way out. It will be more shocking if Luna suddenly displays some amazing magical talent beyond Ron and Hermione or turns out to know where a Horcrux is and how to destroy them than to just have her hook up with one of the Order. (Of course I speak as a complete non-romantic who hopes the love life of the various characters stays distinctly submerged to the Quest in any case).
LunasLil'bro
I hope she's in it! She is a very nice person, but back to topic. She's important in book 5 + book six. If she's gone then'll i'll be mad at Mrs. Rowling, but I'll get over it,

She'll be big in book 7
lukeuk
I dont know, i think she will do domthing to stop death eaters maybe with nevill or other members of the DA but i doubt that she will play a big part like searching for horcruxes with ron hermione and harry. But maybe she will be in 'the final battle'? who knows:D
dom
I think Luna will help Harry somehow to do with the Veil in the Death room at DoM. She can hear the voices too and I think its got something to do with why Sirius had to die to help Harry, and Luna will help him discover some secret to do with that... Luna rocks.
.Fallen.Ashes.
HAHA I STARTED THIS TOPIC ON MY OLD ACCOUNT biggrin.gif I didnt like it so I made this one.

Anywayss,I think she should have a fairly big role in HP & DH because just like Harry, she can see those horse things(I cant remember the actual name),she can hear voices behind the viel, and she has also lost her mother. I doubt she will have a really big romantic role, but maybe it will mention her dating someone,Im hoping its Neville! happy.gif They would be adorable together.

I also think she will have a big role in a fight with Death Eaters or Voldemort. She is so strong and can probaly get her way out of any situation. rolleyes.gif
