It's not going to be long before people start asking, so here you go - a thread for you to chat about auditions.
Seeing as how the most common question we're asked is 'Where do I Write to?', here's the address you need to send your details to if you fancy your chances...
Leavesden Studios
PO Box 3000
Hertfordshire
WD2 7LT
United Kingdom
Before anyone gets their hopes too high though, let me just say that I, the staff, the site, and everyone attached to it have absolutely no say or input to anything whatsoever, so there's no point in asking us for any more details. We really can't help you because we're a fan site, we don't influence anything. All we can do is provide the address for you.
Just don't go getting your hopes too high - remember that the casting is strictly British and that the only roles, as far as I'm aware, are likely to be as extras.
As for advice, I think you just need to write to the address above, include your details and a photo of yourself, and an idea of the type of role you might be interested in. Remember that the studios are likely to get quite literally thousands upon thousands of letters from fans desperate to be in the films, so don't be too broken hearted if you don't get replies. You'll be no different to the thousands of others who didn't get replies either.

Sorry to be so negative...it's not negative really. It's just realistic.

That being said, the thread is open, so knock yourselves out - best of luck!

I didn't exactly write to the Studios but I wrote a letter to Daniel and I didn't get a reply.I think it's because he is almost recieving 800 letters per day.So obviously they would throw half of the letters.Anyway good luck!

Thank you soooooo much for the info!!! I am shortly going to write a long essay about myself and the character that I am most suited for, and include a pic. . .then send it to the casting directors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I am so thrilled! Thnx!

Even though, I would despratly(sp) want to be in a HP movie, because, I do act, in plays, and musicals, I can't. A simple explanation, I am not British. But I really want to go there. I can totally see why they want an all British cast. I wish I could, but oh well, I will somehow start my acting career!

Cool i'd love to but i'm to young to audition for any body off signifagance. So i don't know about it.
It would be really great though being a extra would be brilliant.

I too agree with you about being an extra, it would be absolutely brilliant to even get to spend time on set. I was just wondering if you knew. . .How old would someone have to be to try out for the part of Romilda Vane? Thnx for your input!

Hermione Jane Granger,
i think that the girl playing Romilder is the same age as ginny and luna so i would imagine they should be about 15ish or born in 1991/92
hope this helps

Okay, okay...can we please not forget the VTM rules of no netspeak and no one liners in here? I'm not going to lock a thread like this because it's like the Hydra, but I will issue warnings to the people who continue to break the rules. I know you're excited, but please...thanks

And I really don't think that faking an accent is going to cut the mustard. I think that they'll figure it out

So I've been trying to do what I can to be in atleast one HP movie cause I love them!!! even though I stoped at book 4....for nothing?
My point...I really have NO CHANCE??? even though I've been trained and worked my booty off to become an actress? Even though I've had a fake british accent since I was 5?
Well I guess for those of us that are not british it would NOT be very fair to take the spots of real british acters...BUT STILL!!! I can't even be an extra? I just wanna walk down the hall...or fall or something...
whatever.
Louise
Nov 25 2006, 10:12 PM
Well obviously I can't say, because I don't know you, but based on experience, I can safely say that I have never, ever, heard anyone who's not British put on a decent British accent. And vice versa, of course - heaven only knows I'd take a bullet for Alan Rickman, but the man cannot do an American accent to save his life. Hugh Laurie's accent in House is shocking...and every American actor trying to do a British accent either comes over all **** Van Dyke in Mary Poppins, or sounds as though they have a pole up their backside

People are who they are, and trying to put on accents just doesn't work.
My point is that it doesn't matter how good the accent, the point is that they want British people because they want to support the British actors and film industry, I guess - it's a bigger thing than just having an accent. I mean, if you're an extra, it doesn't really matter what your accent is.
But hey, if you want to try, knock yourself out. I'm not casting

EDIT : Hey, D*ck Van Dyke is his name!!!

Flippin' filters....

Okay, okay...
Richard Van Dyke
Capricorn
Nov 25 2006, 11:00 PM
Hah! That happened to me too, in the Six Degrees thread! Richard van Dyke, yeah...

Anyways, I agree about the accents - not to be touched. Eddie Izzard had
something to say about it.

I flatter myself I'm good with accents, but with a real Brit, my cover will be blown instantly. I suppose I could keep a few South Africans entertained, but we're not familiar with the accent, so there's not much to it. With a fine ear, it's easy to spot a faked accent from miles away.
And besides - there's more to it than the accent, I'm afraid. Culture is difficult to act out, because there has to be no trace of acting about it. It's supposed to be completely inherent, and the best of actors get that wrong sometimes. What's that movie with Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson as cops...? They stood out from the real Americans like sore thumbs, because there's something British that is so inherent to them that they didn't know how to act it away. Judas Kiss! Yeah, fun movie.

I would love to audition for Romilda Vane, but, just like many of you, I am not British. I understand why though, because a true britain could tell anyone who had a fake accent in about a second, and they want to keep the movies as "real as possible".
I guess all of us Americans will have to be content with pretending.
Darkhermione
Nov 27 2006, 05:49 PM
Oh yes and I forgot to say that beyond acting skills and...I guess you could say...speech, You may also need an AGENT I'm currently switching agencies simply because the one I'm with sucks and I found an even better one.
Almost all the cast from the harry Potter movies have them, and they come in handy. For the british people in here it would be easy for you because you may not need to write a letter to get an audition. And for the americans in here I say having an agent comes handy for travel and geting to be ATLEAST an extra, I was this -close- to haveing a part in the next Spiderman movie...I said no...cause i'm slow like that.

I guess we will have to really be content with pretending. But those of you who are British out there (not saying that I'm not). . .Why don't you at least give us a chance? I mean, you will never know if any American can do a decent accent until you let 'em try! Some of you out there, I think, should definitely THINK BEFORE you speak. You might just come across as insulting to some people. And thanks to all of everyone on here for ruining all hope for me, this was the only thing in my life for me to look forward to, and you just had to open your big mouths. Thanks a lot!

Well...I'm very jealous at you all...
I'm not even English at all! I love acting, but there's not much I can do with it over here except maybe entertaining my classmates!
That' s very frustrating you know? I would really love to do a little role in the Harry Potter movies...God, I really would have auditioned for Hermione at the time if I lived in Britain.
But I'm stuck here, in this little country with no chances at all....It's not fair!

Ok... just a question... I'm a fan but im 'Down Under' (In Australia) would that effect the chances of my getting in the new movie(s)
gaburdette
Nov 28 2006, 04:13 PM
I am afraid it would Meggera. If your Passport does not list the UK as your country, you can forget about trying to get a part in the movie. The only exception would be if JKR introduced some Australian wizards & witches in book 7. Same for us Americans only American witches & wizards.
Some may think it is unfair but I do not. The US produces the most and the biggest movies in the world. So this one series goes stictly to British actors. It is not the end of the world. There will be plenty more movies available for US actors.
I have to agree with Louise and Capricorn. No matter how much coaching you have, the accent will never be perfect. You may be able to fake a British accent and fool someone from the US or South Africa, but you will never fool the British. As Louise pointed out, despite all Alan's training, he can not hide his British accent. It comes across no matter how much he tries to hide it.

There is one thing that keeps comming to my mind: Don't they check passports or ID's or anything? That seems to be the simplest way to check a person's identity at minimum standart. Of course you could fake that too, but at what risk?
Sorry for interrupting you here. I have no interest in acting but I happened to read through this anyway and just had to ask

Hmmm. I agree that you couldn't really hide your British accsent(sp?) even if you wanted to !But i have fooled a couple from Britain into believing i came from London and was on Holiday. And everyone new i meet asks me if i'm British.
Anyway i think it's only fair to have an all british cast .But i also think they should give a few people from other, smaller, countries a chance to audition.I live in South Africa and my sister in Reading-40miles west of London-so i visit once a year.Last time i was over i just missed auditions for OoTP .I would love role even an Extra!

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to merge this one with the existing audition threads. I'd rather not have several of them scattered about the place when they're all essentially about the same thing.
Could I ask that everyone please make sure they do a search of the forum for existing topics before opening new ones. Thanks.

Moon(I luv you Luna)

I probably don't have any sort of chance at all of getting into a Harry Potter movie!
1:Ok, so i was born in England ... i've been lviing in New Zealand for 13 years! And i defiently DON'T have a brittish accent.
2:I live on the other side of the world! The only way i'd even get there is if i hide in my grandma's suitcase when she goes home after a visit ... yeah, she lives in England.
3:The part i wanted to play is taken! I so wanted to play Luna Lovegood ... but as we all know, Evanna Lynch has that part wired!
So i guess i'll be a lonely fangirl all my life ...
Though if i could be in it-i'd like to play Romdila or Lavender.
And yeah Garburdette, no matter what you do, your accent is stuck for life. I even have a story to prove it! A girl in my class went on an exvchange to Australia and came back claiming she had a australian accent. Of course she didn't and was putting it on, and it was the worst fake accent ever! She kept switching to NZ and back!
So yeah, i don't think you could put on a accent.
Besides, if all the fan's got into the movies, there'd be no one to wish they were!

Consider yourself *very* lucky that Capricorn spotted that before I did otherwise you would no longer have your posting privileges. If speaking the truth is insulting to you, then so be it. It's called realism, better deal with it.

Ditto - people just want to meet the stars of HP, it's that simple. It's not about acting, or really wanting to get into film. If that was the case, you'd take any job, just like most stars did when they were starting off. Hence the rather embarrassing back-catalogue most stars have.

In this day and age? After September 11th and July 7th? Faking passports would probably earn you a one way ticket to where you'll never be wanting for food or warmth, though the room sizes are a little small and every window comes with its own designer bars.

Heh. I have no desire to audition really. It'd be quite neat to be in a Harry Potter movie, however. But, I don't claim to have any acting ability

. I'm American, anyway.
Anyway--I have a question. I totally agree that an American would not be able to fool the British with a phony accent, it would be a little useless to try. My British accent is hilariously stupid. BUT, I was just wondering--is it true you can completely detect an American accent in an
actor trying to put on a British accent?
There are some actors that I have had no idea are British, and I'm American and I can't tell. Heh. But there are others, like David Thewlis and Kristin Scott Thomas who can't put on an American accent to save their lives. What about Johnny Depp? Can he put on a pretty decent British accent? I thought he could---but, I really can't tell as well as some. Or, what about Renee Zellweger? Hm.
I think it's quite reasonable that the casting is strictly British. They should stick with the Characters' nationalities. It gives a real feel of Harry Potter, and that's what I want, anway.

In the HBP movie there'll be less new characters to try out for = less chances! i tried out for Luna Lovegood in OOTP and the judges sounded so bored, there were loads of girls trying out and I could see all of them wanted it soooo bad....I'm really not sure it's worth bothering this time round, I don't think there's really any other characters I could do anyway....*sigh* oh well, it's only a million-dollar blockbuster epic....

Why are they looking for all British actors?

Actually, Hogwarts is in Scotland, UK. Most part of the students and professors are from that area. There are several Schools of Magic throughout the world, we know about only three or four (Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, Durmstrang, and I remember vaguely Salem's Witch Institute from USA) but I guess there is at least one for each country in the world.
Although it's not uncommon that students go abroad to study, maybe because they live in a bilingual family, or for any other personal reason (see Draco...he wanted to go to Durmstrang but his mother didn't allow him to go), the most part of the students belong to the linguistic/geographical area in which their school is.
So I don't find so strange that the production tries to find actors with specific accents.

When it comes to stuff like this...I'm so glad I'm British! I'm going to audition for Romilda Vane, even though people keep saying "oh no she'll be cut....!" NO SHE WON'T! She can't be cut!
As far as sending letters to Leavesdon it's kind of pointless. They get so many letters so you're chances of getting a reply are...pretty slim. I've sent two letters. One was six months ago and one was a month ago.
To improve you're chances of getting a reply, enclose a photo.
Rupert Grint sent a rap that he'd wrote about WHY he should be Ron Weasley.
Or for you're best bet, tape yourself acting, rapping (like Rupert) and send off the tape. Bigger looking packages are more likely to be opened. I mean, could YOU resist to NOT open a present looking package?! Haha!
"clearly" Yes everyone from Hogwarts (minus a few like the Patil twins) is British.
J K Rowling wants all the actors in the movies to be British because that's how they are in the books. Even if you have an amazing accent you're still not allowed to audition. That's the way it is.
Good luck everyone. Oh, and if anyone knows anything about Romilda Vane or Lavender Brown auditions then send me an owl.
THANKS!

Hey Jason! I think you'd make a BRILLIANT McLaggen! I haven't even seen you but you have a touch of destiny about you...you sound really passionate!

gilly_wead the chances of being Romilda Vane are very slim because I'M auditioning!!!

romilda_girl
Jan 1 2007, 12:59 PM
I think that you would be allowed to be an extra if you're an Aussie but it's sort of a waste of time....you would be doing a 24 hour flight to UK and then you'd just have to hang around and stand there for ages. You probably wouldn't be featured in the movie.
But I suppose it would be quite cool just being on the set.
You should write a letter to Leavesdon Studios.

I was reading a article on Katie leung and it said that one of the reasons that she got the part was because they have double sidded mirrors and she didnt fix her hair or make up but at the luna ones they didnt have double sided mirrors.

Well at the luna ones we had to que up for ages and then we had to fill out a form and then we enterd another room (kind like a waiting room) and then we went into another room were fiona weir was. She was on a stage and spoke to us for a bit then we had to get into lines of about 10-15 and say your name and where you came from and if you was lucky she told you to stay behind and you had a polaroid taken of you and then you went into another room (if you was chosen) and they gave you about 3 lines to learn and then you had to say it to the camera and then you handed your sheet to the person that was in the room with you and they attached your photo then you could leave
I was just wondering if every audition has been like that so far?

As I said before I would love to be an extra. Romilda_girl, I know I should write a letter to Leavesdon Studios, but my main question is what should I say in the letter? I can't just say 'I would like to be an extra, hire me.' I have no idea, how to get me noticed. I know an extra is boring work, but I just want to be on the set, in the robes, feel like a Hogwarts student, you know.
