In an interview, Helena Bonham carter(Belleatrix) confirmed that she was off to the studios for Azkaban filming. She even showed number '93' on her neck as her prisoner number. Thoughts on this please?

I haven't read OotP since maybe July of this year...but that was my first time reading it too *blushes* i didn't read any of the books till AFTER the 4th dvd came out, I know i'm not a true fan *sighs* anyways, i for the life of me do NOT remember ANY Azkaban scenes in OotP...I mean there's the mass breakout of Death Eaters yes...but that's it. Or she could of been filming scenes like Gary Owlman(sp? -.-;; ) did for Sirius..you know the mugg shots? So...i don't know I'm confused. Azkaban was never exactly SHOWN in book 5....was it? God now i'm confused

I think the scene they will use for Azkaban will be very short. It will probably be them breaking out or something along those lines, and will probably have voice-over!

I always imagined Azkaban to be this dark murky castle with barbed wire running round the edge, a place where the sea tries to beat the walls and where the weather is always wet dark and gloomy.
I hope they do an Azkaban scene so we get to feel the emotion and darkness of this place. It’ll be spectacularly done.
I hope its not too short!

If this is true, I hope they include it at the opening credits to have a good spooky start to the movie like they did with GoF with Nagini moving around, and maybe it will be like a dream Harry has at the beginning, instead of him laying in a flower bed like the book.

Yeah...sorry to break it to you 'k_weber08' but the movie opens with sunshine.
However I'm not sure which opening they've decided on yet: A quick glimpse of Voldermort in the dark then merge to sunshine or just straight sunshine. Either way...the opening is set in Summer, and they'll show you one way or another!

I hope they show Askaban, reading about is good but seeing it would be brilliant. I always pictured it as really run down and constantly gloomy weather. The kind of place that would make you want to kill yourself even if the dementors weren't there.

On MTV the other day, they showed a behin the scenes at Azkaban, the set is all gloomy and REALLY REALLY dull. They didn't say what it would be for, though.
in which country did they show that?
i read about azkaban so many times and i have a pretty much pictured it in my mind.
with the wind whiping the gloomy water against the walls and the dark rocks...
i hope they don´t disappoint me!
i don´t think that they´ll show azkaban for a long time, because there is so much that has to be included in the movie.

I always pictured azkaban as being on a rocky island in the middle of the stormy mediteranean sea. Sharp rocks, no escape, high, gloomy walls, and lots of lightning...but that is just me..my imagination tends to run away with me at times.

It will probably show the breakout...that is my only guess as to what it is for.

^^^You guys do know what she got the idea from. Alcatraz. Thats exactly how i pictured it. Some far off island with no way to escape. Somehow Sirius escapes, just like Frank Morris, and brothers John and Clarence Anglin. They were the only ones to escape. I hope they have it because it seems just like some gloomy dark place that i like.

Yes, I don't recall any scenes from Azkaban in the book :S Would be amazing to see it portraye don film though. May be a bit disappointing if it doesnt live up to the image in my mind :/ Do they have numbers on their necks? I don't remember it saying anything about that. I always imagined it as completely dark grey with black steel bars as cells and just shadows inside, no light, and dementors guarding every cell.
Post on how you imagined it, would be nice to hear!

I could never really picture the outside of Azkaban, even when I read PoA where Sirius escapes from it. I could only picture (my version) of what the inside would look like. Kind of like jail onyl more magical of coarse, but dark magic (agian of coarse). And then Dementors everywhere strolling to different cells. And a bunch of people barely recognizable because it's so dark, but all you can hear is that they've gone insane from being in there. And the walls would be thick brick that glowed dark blues and blood red or something. And maybe that is from the Daily Prophet picture that Hermione sees when she reads it.

i remember seeing on a different site, who's name i will not mention on here, a design sketch of what azkaban will look like and it was shaped like a giant A but without the line in the middle, like the Greek capital Alpha i think. It was also perched on the side of a waterfall so like the water is on side with the opening of the A and then the point is like on a cliff and past that is nothing. it was really cool only they took it off because WB asked them to. but from what i saw azkaban is going to be freaking sweet and i hope they show some of it becaus Jo never really takes us to azkaban in the books and it would actually be interesting to see what people like Sirius, Bellatrix, Lucius and other went through while there.

I agree

i think it would be absolutely brilliant to see this scene in the movie because it would truly make the film indipendant from the book and would perhaps reveal new things which Jo never had time to include/refer to in Ootp.
So i am definitely looking forward to this.
As for my thoughts on the scene - i do not think it would take up much of the film (no more than 2 or 3 minutes altogether) because i can imagine them filming this sequence as a way of adding to the real psycological feel and tension of the movie.
I can just imagine the frame switching somehow to a landscape view of the outside of Askaban prison, with the waves crashing against the rocks (similar to the lighthouse shot in the Philospher's Stone movie, but it could be set towards a large cavern where the entrance to the prison would be), and then the camera shot will move fowards into the cavern as you also begin to here loud torture screams echoeing from inside the prison building, then the camera shot will suddenly switch to a viewpoint inside the prison, slowly moving into the dungeons between each prison cell up to the one belonging to Belletrix Lestrange where you almost see a figure sitting in the corner of the cell.
This could be the scene where us audiences get a dramatic first glimpse of Bellatrix Lestrange so that it creates a great impact on the character and focuses the story on the break out of a convict who is looking for her master, Voldemort.

I think maybe it might the picture in the paper of the mass breakout. Remember how Fudge was trying to blame it on Sirius. Maybe its the background for the picture. Any thoughts?

Yes this scene is in th efilm and is not small at all.
I agree with gregyboi234
I've also seen the artwork of Azkaban prison.
It is a huge, massive black marble building on an enormous rock which is on the front side of a hugeeeeeeeeeeeee waterfall. There is a small bridge through which you pass the waterfall.
The scene will be in the film and they WILL show the mass breakout.
There will be also the article in Daily Prophet.
the artwork of Azkaban is my avatar picture.

The small bits of pictures and secnes i have seen of Azkaban. Look really cool but freaky. Bellas experssion was in the paper it was that freaky along with Voldermort breathing fire.
I think the secnes should be quite short but that look as what will be there will be good.

I know that the scenes at Azkaban are not in the book, I think the trio just read about the escape in the daily prophet.
But, from the trailers and pictures I think it will be cool, except Azkaban doesnt look exactly as I imagined it in the books

ok ok ok ok ok i just saw the movie today and YES IT WAS AWESOME
the azkaban scene was really short and i totally did not picture azkaban looking like that.
it was a big triangle i spose or maybe it was an A in the water. and then a part of the wall broke off and out came Bellatrix (whois sooo cool , helena plays her perfectly in this)
i love her laugh as she escapes...nice,
yes so i didnt imagine Azkaban like that but it look very .. wizardy i spose. not many muggles would come up with something like that.

Ok, I really didn't like the azkaban scene at all... It just showed the walls falling around the death eaters cells and then Bella coming out laughing... I didn't like it... It wasn't in the book so it sholdn't have been in the movie... And it didn't even explain what broke the walls... The prophet just blamed it on Black and then never said anything else about it...

I actually thought it was a cool little add in and showed the people who haven't read the books what it's really like and the fact that Bellatrix was there. This adds to her "evil" aura. I loved Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange so I thought it was great.

The Azkaban scene was certainly interesting. It was weird to see the bricks breaking and the wall falling out. Bellatrix was pretty bizarre, but not in a bad way or anything. Overall I liked the effects, though, I liked the energy and the haziness.

You see azkaban for about 10 seconds... only from outside 2.
Ladie Lily Potter

It's quite a bit longer than 10 seconds, actually. And we do see inside with Bellatrix and one of the other death eaters. I thought that the wall being broken the way it was added to the bizzare-ness off it all. I really loved it a lot.

Azkaban is a creepy place. It's supposed to drain the energy out of the prisonsers. Well, the dementors do that, and I'm not sure dementors are big on sunlight and happiness.

I thought Azkaban look odd and creepy, just PERFECT for a wizard prison in the North Sea! I like how part of the place was evidently blasted off to help facilitate the escapes.

Funny as. I loved it when Bellatrix just randomly started laughing, I actually laughed myself, hilerious! She was going crazy, the Azkaban scenes were good, but rather un-necessary. I loved them though

Azkaban looked exactly how I thought it would have though, that was good.
