This question has been bothering for a really long time and i cant stand it anymore. sad.gif

If and when Harry defeats Voldemort will Harry's scar stay there or will it go away? unsure.gif

What do you guys think? unsure.gif

I think the scar will stay on, but the powers of it will go.
doomed_renascence
I'm guessing that the scar will go away, since it's the whole connection between him and Voldemort. Voldemort WILL die/or defeated (duh, isn't it obvious?), so I don't think there will be any more connections between the two.

Hmm, that's odd. I remember I saw this thread somewhere. Oh well...
Triad
I think the scar will stay. I mean how could it just go away? Just becuase Voldemorts dead doesn't mean that the scar will fade. It might be their connection but that's it. It's like hanging up the phone after you've finished talking to someone. Does the phone disappear? No it doesn't. The scar is there because Harry got hurt, just like any normal scar, and since it's been there for all his life I don't think it would fade without leaving some kind of mark. Ok the scar may fade but there will always be a mark.

And I don't think there was any magic in the scar because Dumbledore said way back in some book that Voldemort transfered his power to Harry. So that must mean that the scar was like a power plug. The curse hit Harry (like an electric shock) and went into him through the open wound that then turned into a scar. So that scar's not magical, if it was then we'd have heard something about it by now.

I agree Triad. Btw, good comparison between the scar and the phone thing..lol.

Anywho, back on topic .. you guys said what I wanted to! Shucks.. I need to come on here more often (than I already do.. haha!).. a little something to add though.. another reason I think it'll stay is because even if Harry has defeated Voldemort, what happened it the past can never be changed. Even if this "curse" has lifted, it will forever remain fact that there was some sort of connection between Harry and Voldemort.
kreacher_the_house_elf
Yes there was a thread somewhere.... I believe that the scar will remain. ~The last word is scar incidently. But I think you all knew that.

Harry can't have been through all he has been through and not even have something to have to his name.

Also, The scar is not about Voldemort. It is about surviving Avada Kedavra. So I suppose killing the person that inflicted it on you shouldn't make much difference.

Sorry to be a bit of a party pooper. sad.gif BUT!! Who knows if Harry is going to live?

I'm sorry to bring that up. But you know... smile.gif
Solembum
I think that he will keep his scar. Why wouldn't he? How could Voldemort cause his scar to disapear?
Dracoluver
I don't think it'll disappear, but I think that the connection between Harry and Voldy will disappear IF Harry defeats Voldy.
Allie
Order of the Phoenix spoilers ahead....

Harry's scar will never disappear. The scar is a physical representation of the hardship that he faced in his past, and the fact that Voldemort is gone does not mean that Harry no longer feels any pain about his past. He has lost his parents and Sirius, he has witnessed the death of a fellow student, he has tolerated abuse from the entire magical community and has been slandered. If the scar is a symbol of suffering and the scar disappears, that means that suffering disappears, which will never be the case for Harry.

In short, I agree with TriadOfDarkness. wink.gif
kreacher_the_house_elf
A scar is a scar they face over time but I doubt that one will. It is the connection which makes Harry special. It is what makes him the boy who lived... I agree with Anthony Goldstein.
Naz
i think it will vanish when harry defeats voldemort!! tongue.gif tongue.gif
sexy-lass
I have to agree dansgurl01

I scar conects harry to voldy right, and IF harry defeats voldy, then the curse will be lifted and that means the scar will vanish. but it will vanish slowly.
Hallia
I don´t think the scar will go away, it´s a physical mark, and even if the magic ends I believe it will stay. Even if LV dies, that will still have a meaning.
Souljacker
I completely agree. If anything Harry's scar is a symbol of that 'fateful' night at Godric’s Hollow. Even in the end If Volde does die, or is vanquished or sees the error of his ways smile.gif it won't change what happened on that night, unless Harry uses a time-turner to change those events and in doing so completely alter his own history.

The pain Harry feels in his scar will however probably disappear if Volde does any of the three above mentioned things happen, but the scar will still remain on his forehead like a dominant Volcano (IMHO).

Plus Harry wouldn't be too happy if his Scar disappeared, if I remember correctly it's something he likes about his appearance (or at least at the start of the Philosopher’s Stone), if not the agonising pain he feels which is channelled through it.
james pickles
well you know i dont want to sound lame but the scar could be the key to destroying voldemort afterall they are conected....
Darren
I think Harry might rather it remain, it's a legacy to who and what he is. The loss of his parents, and the struggle he has had to deal with. It is probably like a birthmark, you don't really want it, but it's part of who you are.
Hpfan4
Ya, I bet the scar will stay whether he wants it to or not. And he probably would because it's the mark that he got because of his mothers love deflecting the Avada Kadavra curse. I mean that's what I would think. smile.gif
Nymphroda Tonks
I don't rilly know what will happen but i think it won't....
dumbledore won't do it...
maybe it will be the sig n as the boy who lived (hopefully)
Rubedo.Kukai
I have a question. Since some of Voldemort's powers transfered to Harry, do you think that extra boost of power dissappear after Voldemort dies? (Assuming Harry lives that is.)
Hallia
I think the powers will also stay, the scar will stay because it is not only a magical mark, it is now physical too. And the powers will saty too, but I haven't got reasons to asure that.
music_is_my_life
I think the scar will remain after Harry defeats Vodiemort. I personly think it would be a bit cheesy if his scar dissappered. A scar is a scar. It stays put. Even if the scar is magical, I do not think Ms. Rowling would just let it fade away after defeating Vodiemort.

I know this has been stated before but i feel it needs to be stressed more...

Harry's scar is a reminder of his past. A reminder that his parents died for him; and that once he was connected to the most powerful dark wizard ever.

Also, I think once Harry defeats Voldiemort the power he gained when he was a baby will not disappear. Even though Voldiemort will be dead the power Harry recived is now his. It is his to use and manipulate. biggrin.gif
darkflux
Dumbledore says he will have the scar for life.
zee_fleur
Yeah I doubt that the scar will disappear after the battle with Voldemort - but at least is won't hurt anymore ?
feelingfelix
yea.. its quite possible that the scar may hold the key to the whole war on voldemort.. dumbledore had quite often stressed on the importance of it.. we'll see in the next book if harry can somehow use the connection to him benefit.. its even possible that the seventh part of LV soul is in the scar.. who noes.. but i dont think it will fade.. if he wins against voldy, then it will b like a trophy for him
littlexoxlotte
i think the scar will stay... but i quess in a magical sence it could vanish if he was truely gone... and then he could dy his hair blond so noone could recognize him anymore
drhpluvr4l
I think that since Harry always feels Voldemort's emotions and thoughts through his scar, maybe when Voldemort is killed, Harry's scar will be overwhelmed by Voldemort's feelings (as he's dying) that it will be too much and Harry will die.
I know it's sad, but it's possible rite?
harry4_LyF
A scar is something that you get after a deep cut in your arm. A scar is what you get after to get stitches. A scar is what you get when your cat scratches you, and they stay on you forever. A scar can't just die.

"The scars don't hurt, their only reminders of mistakes" -unknown

We don't know if Harry ever did make a mistake, but Voldemort dure did, and his result was a SCAR on Harry's forehead. The scar will stay. A scar can't die, or hurt, or do anything, but in harry's case, it gave him special powers. A voldemort Sence, and visions to Voldemort's mind.

Once again, the scar will stay, I'm thinking, at least.
ISHARRYAHORCRUXE???214
another interesting topic.......

i think that all of u r assuming that harry will kill voldemort (hey ya never know), or taht harry will survive.....
but assuming that he does survive and kill voldemort, what if, because the scar links harry and voldemort (like, emotionally as it did in the 5th book), harry were to die because of the link of the scar.

and yes, i know that i sound bloody insane, but hey, its a theory.
f.lamanna
If a scar is something you get for a deep cut or a cat scratch etc. then does harry have a scar. AK leaves no marks on the victim, so why does Harry even have a scar, what cut his forhead. I would guess that is a more of magical mark connecting harry with voldy and when one or the other dies the "scar" will go away.
ssssssssss
I depends, really. If Harry defets Voldemort, I think his scar will stay, but it wont really do anything. But, if Harry dies, I think, again, his scar will stay, but then the powers will stay, so he could still feel what Voldy feels. I Harry dies, I think that, in the world of the Dead, he will love his scar.
akira1984
[font=Century Gothic] I doubt the scar will dissapear and i highly doubt that harry will lose any power because the power that LV provided him with was the protection of his mothers love. Also LV found a way of countering that one. Another thing most of the things harry has done BAR destroying LV/Professor Quirrel in the first book has been done by himself he was lucky but he has used resourses and friendship.

i think thats my point?

P.S comeing back to what someone said about the time turners. they were all destroyed in the battle at the minestrey in OOTP
VeneficusFerox
Hello all,

I agree with those who say the scar will stay. It will be a reminder, as some have said, of the hardships that Harry has overcomed since he found out he was a wizard and what really happened to his parents; a reminder of the dangers of not being able/willing to love or being afraid death [Lord V], since as Dumbledore said, there are worse things than it, and death is but the next great adventure. Sure, all Harry has wanted to be is just a normal boy like his friends at Hogwarts, but think he has matured enough throughout the series to not mind if it stays there.

As for the powers, I don'nt think they will disappear; I feel they are a part of who Harry is now and a consequence of the events of that happened at Godric's Hollow.

Cheers!!
Loony_Hufflepuff
I believe Harry's scar will stay around, even after Voldemort is defeated. The scar is what makes Harry important, it makes him stand out, it makes him the boy who lived. I find it that if Harry had the scar disappear, it would loose all importance. He wouldnt' be the boy who lived anymore.

Anyways, I think the scar also can't disappear, can it? It's a scar. Yes, a magical scar...but still a scar. I can't imagine Harry without it, truthfully.

The scar will stay around. I would find it incredibly cheesy if it disappeared after Harry defeated Voldemort.
luna_lovegood_fan
of corse the scar will stay there but its magic will leave
P.S. if any one can tell me how to work this stupid signature please tell me
air_cadet1
Dont you remember at the start of the philosophers stone when mcgonagell asked dumbledore if there was anything he could do about the scar and Dumbledore said even if i could wouldnt he said that because there is no cure for scars so his scar will stay.
The Chosen Captain
i think that after voldy is killed by harry the scar will remain however harry's "connection" with voldy will no longer be there as voldy is no more.
Moon(I luv you Luna)
I don't know what will happen to be honest. But i think even though all the trouble that scar has givin Harry, after all the pain it's caused, i think Harry would be very sad to loose it-it's a part of him, one of the things that makes Harry-Harry.

I just can't imagine Harry without a scar.

So i'm hoping it stays, but it'll be just like an ordinary scar.

Besides, didn't DD say in the first chapter of the first book that he would "Have that scar forever"? unsure.gif
Me_Hermy:1 of the Same
I've always thought that when harry conquers Voldemort the scar will disappear from Harry's forhead and there will be no trace of it ever being there?
juzkow
Thats a good qestion.I think that harry's scar will not go away.Mad-eye has many scars but I bet that one of the people he captured is dead(azkaban) and he still has them.I think it wont go away but it will lose its power to detect voldemort.
twin293
good question i've been wondering the same thing .My dad and i read harry potter heaps and think that ONCE(not if)harry defeats voldie his scar will disaper tongue.gif
Hermione's Twin
Yeah, I've been thinking about this to!

I think the scar will stay as the pain and suffering LV put Harry through wont go so why would the scar that started it??

Although the last word is said to be scar so I wonder how this will fit in....?
Chlomione
Hmm.

Interesting point.

I guess the scar will stay - because i mean, why would it go? - but i don't know about the power of it and all. i think the power will be vanquished (sp?) but its a scar and its not going to dissapear just because Voldermort dies.

However my father thinks that the scar will dissapear because its a magical scar and the only reason it was there was because of Voldemort and if he is gone then it will dissapear.

but i don't know.

I think its almost impossible to tell what will become of his scar. With the last word of HPDH being 'scar' anything is possible.
1. Harry may live and on day notice that his scar is no longer there.
2. Harry may die, and Hermione or Ron may find him and mention his scar.
3. Ron and Hermione might have a kid and then die (like Lily and James) then there kid may have a scar.
4. Harry may live and wonder if his scar is ever going to leave.

I could probably go on forever, but i think we simply dont know enough to know if his scar will stay or not.

PS: Does anyone know if Dumbledore ever mentioned having a scar or anything from when he defeated Grindelwald? If so please owl me. happy.gif
Merope Gaunt
I think the scar will stay, but the powers wil fade away once Voldy is defeated.
Silly_Willy92
No, I dont think that the powers will fade away at all . . .

i think its implied that harry will not lose his abilities to speak in parsletongue, i just think he cant gain any new powers from voldy . . . . and the scar will remain

or .................. *hypothetical situation* . . . .. ............... one of the only powers harry has and voldy hasnt is the ability to love. so, maybe voldy gains some capacity to love when he and harry confront in the final climax of the book. and by becoming good, harry has mercy and in the end doesnt have to kill anyone . ... .....
Ginny Weasly-15
I actually thimk that it might dissapear into thin air if and when voldy dies! I mean, there would be no point in having the thing if voldy dissapears, right?
Years of exile
i cant see howLV dieing will remove a physical scar from HP head. all i think it will do is cease to have any magical abilities, i.e. hurting when LV feels hatred or is in close proximity.

its jus like saying thet any scar us as humans have will disapear.

well it is possible to reduce the amount of scar tissue around an old wound but it will never really disapear or stop being there.

La MaitressedeMort
I don't know why it would go away in the first place, although there is the idea that his scar is the mark of his being a Horcrux, which makes sense, but I think that it remained because he was touched by a powerful curse, and defended with a powerful protection, and the act of the combination of the two defended him, and left that scar. That was one really long sentance, and I'm listening to angsty anime music, which makes me really happy. And to answer the Grindelwald question, I don't know, although we do know that he had one right above his left knee that was a perfect map of the London Underground. Scar's can come in handy, or something to that effect is what he said in the first book, so I doubt that they're going to take it away, or that it's going to disappear. Well, if we think that it is just a scar, then it's not going to go away, but if we think that it has a purpose, then it might, cause it is magickally envoked, and so if the magick that envoked it is destroyed, wait, that still means it exists, right? I mean, not all magick fades when the person who made it dies, right? If it does, than that changes a lot, cause then it brings up the idea about the protections that Dumbledore put on the castle, and how his death affects those, which is a totally different topic, though the two can be connected in this way, I guess.

~La MaitressedeMort
luv yh harry
i personnaly dont think that there is anythin wrong with the scar however it will be very impotant in the 7 book, and i dont think that it will go away if harry defet voldy, it just cant. its a part of harry and his past.
fish06
I do not see the scar dissapearing. Just becuse he defeats Voldy does not mean that he undid the action that put the scar there. However, it might sever the link between Harry and Voldemort because Voldemort would be dead. Other than that I do not think that it will loose any of its other powers.
