Hello Ladies and Gentlemen.

This is the new thread for The Severely Obsessed Snape Society. I am Witchmom (Clara), proud President of the Society. LilyPotter (Emily) is our precious fanfic coordinator.

Our little Club is open to all those who like Snape but maintain a distant and dignified attitude, and to those who spend sleepless nights thinking about Severus (like me, I am afraid wub.gif ). Any other shade of appreciation between these two extremes is welcome, too! laugh.gif

I need to underline that our admiration is fully extended to Mr Alan Rickman, whose excellent acting has brought many of us to Severus Snape. So the hordes of Alan fans are welcome here!!

We recognize that there is a BookCanonSnape and a MovieCanonSnape, and we fans coexist peacefully on this thread.

The Society has got a website at this address, and I think it's worth a visit. Your suggestions and contributions will be appreciated!! You will be automatically added to the official members list, and if you don't wish to be, simply PM me. In the site, you'll find the link for our FanFic space, which is open to challenges and suggests the best fics on the net.

The thread will provide a bulletin every 7/10 days, helping members to follow the current discussions and topics of interest, and reporting news.

S.O.S.S. is a proud affiliate of M.O.O.O.P.

We plan every year two great initiatives, Snapeweek to celebrate Severus' birthday, starting from January 3, to January 9, and Rickmania Week starting from February 15 to February 21st, birthday of Mr.Alan Rickman.

ABOUT VTM'S SPOILER POLICY REGARDING THE DEATHLY HALLOWS:
Please read carefully the above mentioned policy which can be found HERE. Please note that it's not only a matter of kindness towards those who haven't read the seventh book yet, but also a matter of respecting the rules of this little world we have in VTM.

Welcome to the thread, relax and enjoy the conversation.

Thanks Clara! I've locked and archived the old thread. Cheers to our SOSS and its brand new thread!!! biggrin.gif santa.gif

I'm also looking forward very much to Snape week! I'm gonna watch Love Actually again today, I think. It's Christmas after all, and what would it be without Alan?! tongue.gif

My quote for the day:

"Snape looked as though Christmas had been cancelled."

Wonder what that looks like... wink.gif Merry Christmas, everyone! happy.gif

I just wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS (or Yule or Saturnalia if you prefer).
I waited for the new thread. I think everyone of us didn't write because of waiting for the new thread.
I'm sure we'll enjoy Snapeweek!

To mother tongue english everyone. In Italy, the book7 title drives us crazy: wacko.gif
someone translates hallows like Saints, others like relics, like ceremonies, like spirits (ghosts) ... what is the meanings of hallows?
and deathly? is it something that kills (maybe the correct word is mortal) or somethig that belongs to a dead person?

Can someone help us? (it could be a Christmas gift)
Do you think JKR means the horcruxes?
thank you for your answers.

Anyway I hope the name of Snape will be in the final chapter.
witchmom
Hi Anna,
yeah, discussions are flaming these days here in Italy.
Because, if no-one in English-speaking countries is able to understand what those two words mean in terms of symbols or what, imagine how much we are going crazy in trying to translate them properly!!!

Anyway, I hope that Snape won't die, this is obviously my deepest desire...but you know, at last we have fanfiction!!!

I wanted to share sad news about Alan's Rachel Corrie here. Annie has been at the play in NY last November. I don't remember her saying there were lukewarm reactions from the public, but that there were lots of people with tearful eyes...

Don't you think it's a advertisement move, a way to get attention over the play?

Goodnight...Snapedreams to you all.

Drinotonks
Hey Clara and all other s.o.s.s members, just wanted to say hi, mainly to clara (because I noticed you're looking at this site at the moment and that's neve happened to me before!)

A Merry Christams to all and thanks heaps for opening the new thread may the in depth conversations continue! And I'm really excited about Snape week thanks heaps for letting me be in this great society

And anna fiore there's a great topic in the book 7 thread on the title which has many translations and heaps of pages to read through on the title and it's possible meanings so check it out
baz
WOO! New threadness!!!

Snapey die in book 7? That's CRAZY talk!

Sigh. Unfortunately, it's not looking too good for him.

Witchmom, thank you for the thank you.

Phew, book seven title! WHAT does it mean? deathly hallows a name for the horcruxes, deathly hallows a name for the 4 founders' burial place...those are a couple of rumours. Then there are those who like being funny, and say it's the name of the place Kreacher keeps his loincloths.

...

Silly people.

Witchmom? from italy? Sorry on the slow uptake, I haven't been on here alot. Fiore...that's flowers in Italian, right anna fiore?

S.O.S.S. BULLETIN No.2

Hello!!

I am looking for a French-speaking or French mother tongue Snapist (or Rickmaniac..) who's willing to do some really little translation for the S.O.S.S. website. PM me!

The Snape Devotee for the month of December is....BUMBLEBEE !!! Congratulations, Annie. You'll receive a little surprise via PM and your words have been published on the S.O.S.S. website here.
Your words have enlightened a side of our Severus' personality that is both his force and his weakness, and makes him human and lovable. Congratulations!
I invite you all members to read Annie's thoughts again. Occlumency is not allowed, just go to the webpage and read them. laugh.gif

I have browsed the old thread to find the last topics of discussion, and I found out that some of them, although proposed a some weeks ago, hadn't enough answers.

-What would Snape's happy memory be to conjure a patronus?
- Snape as a healer: is this role linked to his past status of Death Eater?
- Why didn't Dumbledore protect Snape from the marauders?

If you feel you still have something to say, please feel free to post your opinions.

I'm adding a new topic here:

- Do you think that Snape, as Head of Slytherin's House, is using favouritism and partiality to aid his Slytherin students?

Some attention on the last news about Rachel Corrie's supposed fiasco in NY. Is Alan's fame as an excellent director tottering after these news?

Thank you for your contributions to the thread!!! and see you here.

About the play "My Name is Rachel Corrie"... the (small) theatre was full when we went, on November 16. It had been playing for three weeks then.
The review in the NY Times was lukewarm. The reviewer said that for all the drama in the words, there was little drama on the stage. I kept an open mind, and found there was enough drama in the words without needing embellishments. I salute the writers for not falling into the trap of overdramatising something that is dramatic enough in itself.

What did the disappointed theatergoers expect, one wonders. Better sound effects? A live enactment of the death by bulldozer? Other actors to play the part of the concerned parents? Dramatization instead of Rachel Corrie's own words?

I thought the choice of showing what happened through only Rachel's own words a very good choice, and the best way of preserving the play's integrity. Let the audience draw their conclusions. You don't have to sensationalize things to make them poignant. I believed that there was poignancy between the lines. Goethe once said "In der Beschrankung zeigt sich der Meister" -- meaning that it is more masterful to do much with very little than to make your point overabundantly obvious, but then American audiences seem to enjoy the overly obvious. That Canadian theatre director should know better than to use an American audience to gauge his public by, even an audience as eclectic and jaded as the New York crowd.

If I were Alan Rickman I shouldn't be disheartened by his lukewarm reception on the American continent. I think the play will gain respect with time. This is not the kind of thing that works well for people who go to the theater to be entertained, distracted from their troubles. This play is a "talking heads" monologue -- a fantastic performance by the actress, by the way -- the words report rather than act. Can it be called a play when there is no interaction in the scenes? Where do you draw the line between a reading and a play? I think that it is a play, in the same way that Alan Rickman's scene in "Revolutionary Witness" is a play. I'm glad that no compromises have been made to accomodate the theatregoers' hunger for action shows. It's just too bad that so few people appreciate what the creators of this play are trying to do here.

- - - - - -

I wish to thank all my fellow members of the S.O.S.S. for giving me the honour of being the Snape Devotee of the Month!! Thank you, Clara, for putting my words on the site -- yes, this is what I do believe about Severus. A truly remarkable creation of JKR, this agonised and agonising character. May he live long ... but alas, the plot of the series makes his death almost a certainty. My only hope lies with JKR doing the unexpected and letting him live, but that would almost be unkind.

- Do you think that Snape, as Head of Slytherin's House, is using favouritism and partiality to aid his Slytherin students?

Oh yes. He is a Slytherin, and he does sympathise with Slytherins rather more than with pupils from other Houses. He'd also like it that the traditional virtues honoured in the other Houses -- goodness, honesty, bravery, loyalty -- are not taken seriously, as long as they are mere shadows of what these virtues are supposed to be.

anna fiore
Thank you, Baz and Drinotonks for your answers. I’m very happy to know even English mother tongue persons don’t understand clearly that title. Drinotonks, I’ll try to found the thread (I confess: sometime I lose myself in the threads wacko.gif ). Baz, yes fiore means flower; you have a little of Italy in you heart … therefore I send you a portrait of most important Italian poet Dante Alighieri wub.gif because when I red in book1 the description of Snape I thought he resembled to Dante.

About the new discussion, I don’t think Snape ‘is using favouritism and partiality to aid his Slytherin students’. He is the Head of the House, a parental figure, with the Slytherin he his simply … human but because he never shows his human side, others think he is partial.

I already said in the Slytherin house thread Draco had an high mark at the potions OWL exam by stranger examiners; do you remember the Slughorn class? When the students had to prepare the composite poison antidote Harry and Ron wasn’t able to start, Draco made his work.
Did Slughorn estimate Ron as a potionist? No, and Harry would be the same without the Half-Blood Prince help. The truth is Harry is a bad potionist sad.gif , Draco is a near-good potionist smile.gif .

Was Snape bad with Neville? 1. I don’t want Neville in my chemistry lab: he is dangerous biggrin.gif . 2. McGonagall is always Neville-you-can-do-it, but in her NEWT class there wasn’t Neville.

I want remember to all of you we see Snape through Harry’s eyes and Harry has a lot of prejudice on Snape wink.gif
Padfoot08
Congratulations Bumblebee on being devotee. smile.gif
I love your post about MNIRC. I think that people did expect more drama in the scenes and dialect. However, I don't understand why. Why can't one go and see a play and not be wowed by lights and fancy stage settings? I think that it is better to go and be moved by the words and be inspired to be a better person. And from everything that I have heard about Corrie, that is exactly the type of play it is and it is getting low reviews for it. Why? Can people not think for themselves; do they have to be awed or be provided comic relief at every turn to give it five stars? Sorry rambling. Anyway...
Also, I don't think that the problem with CanStage has any bad effect on Alan. Just becuase people want to censor the truth doesn't mean that people should look down on Alan. He should be proud of MNIRC! And I bet you he is. smile.gif

Do you think that Snape, as Head of Slytherin's House, is using favouritism and partiality to aid his Slytherin students?

Errr...well, I'm a Slytherin, so it's good for me. happy.gif I don't think he treats them special all the time, but yea, of course sometimes he does. When his house doesn't win it looks bad on him. Especially, since no one else seems to like Slytherin, so someone has to help them out by giving them a couple points here and there and that sort of thing.
baz
Hi!

QUOTE
What would Snape's happy memory be to conjure a patronus?

I have really no idea. He seems about as happy as someone with their house on fire. The only time I can remember him smile in a pleasure that was not vindictive was...I'll get back to you on that one.

QUOTE
Why didn't Dumbledore protect Snape from the marauders?

I don't know, but maybe he tried to do something. Did he even know about it? I know he was a good egg, but Hogwarts wasn't just the Marauders plus Snape.

QUOTE
Do you think that Snape, as Head of Slytherin's House, is using favouritism and partiality to aid his Slytherin students?

Of course he is. He wouldn't be Snapey otherwise. It's in his nature. He might be exceptionally good at potions, but I don't think he ever enjoyed teaching it (or certain people in his classes with certain scars, poofy hair and freckles).
QUOTE
Especially, since no one else seems to like Slytherin, so someone has to help them out by giving them a couple points here and there and that sort of thing.

Padfoot08, that's a good idea. Gawd knows that houses like gryffindor don't need help! (Unless Snape is docking points...but then it makes it even better for slytherin, right? laugh.gif )

witchmom
Hello SOSS members!!!

-What would Snape's happy memory be to conjure a patronus?
...the first time he did magic? since magic seems to be a very important thing for him...

- Do you think that Snape, as Head of Slytherin's House, is using favouritism and partiality to aid his Slytherin students?

well, I found some traits of favouritism in his habit of not scolding Slytherins usually even if they deserve it. I have this feeling, but I can't remember a proper quote. I am planning to re-read again all the books...

Some attention on the last news about Rachel Corrie's supposed fiasco in NY. Is Alan's fame as an excellent director tottering after these news?

I hope not. First, I think that sometimes a bad publicity is publicity, after all. I think that, although the NY public is extremely demanding, the British style of staging is quite different, even more sophisticated. There's nothing more elegant than simplicity. I guess that European theatre is quite intellectual, and a single actor or actress on stage is more intense than a whole crowd of people.

QUOTE

Annie, I must write down your words. I think they raised a question: is Snape so bitter because he is attached to conservative values and he sees them disregarded by Hogwarts students and their families? is he a conservative type or an innovator?

The potionist skills are another interesting topic of discussion, thanks Anna Fiore for having suggested it. Is Snape a good teacher? I mean, his best students are good at Potions just for a personal ability or because he's good at his work? The hint you made about Neville is interesting, too. Snape doesn't hate him, but he is clearly worried about the consequences of Neville's clumsiness. Potions is a tough subject and the results of a mistake can be really dangerous.

OT: I want to thank publicly Anna Fiore for her kindness. She's sooooo nice, and a true Slytherin -with all the possible positive connotations, being a Slytherin myself wink.gif !! We have spent a wonderful day together yesterday!! Thank you again!! I'm going to put Dante's portrait on Snape's Doubles Page.

I wanted also to tell you all that alanrickmangallery is NOT going to close!!! the site owner has received public praise for her work and she decided to keep it open. YAYYYY!!! I adore that site. I suggest you to check her new Snowcake review, which by the way I find intelligent and sarcastic, a very Snapey speech....really enjoyable if you appreciate some good direct opinions and a sharp irony.

OK, see you later.

Congratulations Bumblebee! Way to go!!!! magic.gif

I saw this and thought you might be interesting. Alan is talking about both Snow Cakes and OotP.

I can't watch it at work so I hope you guys can see it when you open it. biggrin.gif

Enjoy ladies!

Now to answer some questions:

- Do you think that Snape, as Head of Slytherin's House, is using favouritism and partiality to aid his Slytherin students?

I do, but as a true Slytherin he doesn't do anything unless he can gain something from it. He is the head of the house with the most off springs from Death Eaters. Surely word will travel up to Voldemort that Professor Snape is blantantly supporting his cause right under Professor Dumbledore's nose. Even before his return he had to keep up appearances.

Kind of like Lucius but the opposite. Lucius rubbed noses with the Ministry to keep himself from looking like a Death Eater. Professor Snape is rubbing noses with the Death Eaters to keep himself from looking too good. Hmmm...

Not to mention what other people had said that most of the professors don't give Slytherin's the benefit of the doubt and he has to make up for that. I see him as being a head of house that knows what's going on with his students or least tries to know yet isn't meddling.

I wonder if more of the professors showed the Slytherins the same courtesy that they show Gryffindor's or Hufflepuff's how some of the students might have turned out.

-What would Snape's happy memory be to conjure a patronus?

Probably the first time he felt incredibly powerful. Whether it be at school when he was able to beat James Potter at his own game, or as a Death Eater. I'm sure feeling that surge of power makes him feel incredibly...satisfied.

Is Snape a good teacher? I mean, his best students are good at Potions just for a personal ability or because he's good at his work?

I too thought this was an interesting question. I don't think he's a bad teacher, but he could be better. I agree that Potion class is quite dangerous and he is concerned about the safety of his students. However he could be the reason for the stress that the students experience. Well, he is the reason for Neville's stress as we learned in PoA. He probably has such high expectations of his students that when they don't meet what he thinks are reasonable goals he gets frustrated and tends to...show his frustration in an unproductive way.
clara morgue
Yay nice shiny new thread to devote to our beloved sevie...

to the questions...

- Do you think that Snape, as Head of Slytherin's House, is using favouritism and partiality to aid his Slytherin students?
Um, Yes. And why shouldn't he. Yeah, i know he's a teacher and everything, but if he can subtlely use favouritism etc then why shouldnt he. He's not exactly a people person. None of the students from the other houses like him anyway and the other heads must be a bit biased, they themselves were in the houses that they now represent and must like it more. you cant be somewhere for seven or so years and not favour it.
I am not going to go as far as calling sev a father figure, but he is a teacher that truely belongs to slytherin. He is one of, if not the only Slytherin teacher currently at hogwarts, slytherins are going to trn to him if they need to get out of detentions and things.

-What would Snape's happy memory be to conjure a patronus?
I agree that this would be the first time he felt very powerful. Although i think he is a loyal person, i think it was always about the power. The knowledge that he had was power. His position as a death eater was power, as was his position as a teacher- and he did not neglect to remind people. His magic was power. The thing that means the most to him is his power, he is a very power-orientated person, and it makes sense for the thing he loves most in the world to be the foundation of his happy memory.

Is Snape a good teacher? I mean, his best students are good at Potions just for a personal ability or because he's good at his work?
Snape is an amazing potionist. However, i don't think he is a very good teacher. He definetly encouraged the clever ones, but he ignored, neglected and picked on the ones that wern't so gifted. he didn't seem to teach them any tips or things to help them. His job seemed to comprise of writing the instructions on the blackboard at the beginning of the lesson and then destroying students potions at the end. The class didn't mess about in his lessons, but he wasn't a brilliant teacher. This was only because he wasn't as passionate about potions than the dark arts. Since when did sev do anything that he wasn't passionate about?
as far as i can remember, never.

i had to post my thoughts on this, i thought it was such an interesting question-
is Snape so bitter because he is attached to conservative values and he sees them disregarded by Hogwarts students and their families? is he a conservative type or an innovator?
I dont think Snape is a conservative type, although he does value tradition, he has done his fair share of breaking the rules and helping to bring in new ideas, for example killing off all the mudbloods... Neither do i think he is an innovator. He has helped, whether he wanted to or not, to create and preserve the Death Eaters, but he isn't the sort of person to lead the fight. His services to whichever side he choses- and it will come down to this, his choice- would be invaluable, but he would not be the face of the organisation. He is not a social person and i dont think he would be the one to cause so much change in society.

He is bitter purely because he is a survivor. He is instinctive, yet remains rational. He is intelligent and powerful. He has done what he can to survive, and is bitter because nobody understands this. His entire life he has been tormented, by others and by himself, but he has survived. Maybe even changed for the better. Yet nobody understands that he has just done what he had to. They hated him and blamed him and not once tried to understand him. He is bitter because he is different. He is bitter because he is what he is, a survivor.
witchmom
Very interesting points, Clara jr.

A little rumour: Alan is going to star in the Star Trek X movie ... Unfortunately I tried to check it but I couldn't find the source in English, since the article is on a science fiction online magazine.
He would play the villain (as usual?) antagonist of Capt.Picard.

anna fiore
First: Happy new year!
I start from the end: Alan is going to star in the Star Trek X movie
I would be a Star Trek fan but I hate Cpt. Picard, so Alan kills that repellent Captain, the worst IMHO, in ST, I’m with you.

is Snape so bitter because he is attached to conservative values and he sees them disregarded by Hogwarts students and their families? is he a conservative type or an innovator?
He is an innovator, I’m sure about this. He is a poor intelligent boy who reached his position by himself, a self-made-man. His enemies (the marauders) were pure blood; he has (and always had) a like-scientist brain, he tested new way to prepare potions, he always has independent mind, he ignores fashions: can he be conservative? I think it is impossible.
The others hate him: he is on a defence position.

To Clara Jr.: you can think about him he is bad, but you cannot think he is stupid. What would you think about a half-blood that he want a wizards pure race? The idea ‘killing off all the mudbloods’ isn’t new: it is an old idea of Salazar Slytherin.

Is Snape a good teacher? I mean, his best students are good at Potions just for a personal ability or because he's good at his work?
He is a good teacher, I’m a teacher and I learned if a student doesn’t want learn you can made nothing. Potions is the most tiring field of study at Hogwarts: you can’t use wands but only hard work, you have to be focus for a long time …
It is the most dangerous subject too. Explosion, contaminations, near-poisoning … He must be hard with the students for their safety. He doesn’t neglect the ones not-so-clever it is Slughorn behaviour (with Ron for example), he always try to explain, to stimulate … in a severe way of course biggrin.gif . Do you remember? Only at the end of the fifth year he neglected Harry (Harry said) as a student, after the penseive scene.

Do you think that Snape, as Head of Slytherin's House, is using favouritism and partiality to aid his Slytherin students?
I know, I already talked about this topic and I discussed it with other people too. The results are everyone thinks he favours Slytherin students but none makes an example. So I defy you: can you make an example? wink.gif
I agree with you if you say he mistreats Harry and his friends but he treats Harry like he would make with his father, and his friends like the marauders, he makes a mistake because Harry isn’t James (and Snape is adult and Harry is a boy). But to mistreat Harry doesn’t mean to favour Slytherin.

SnakeCharmer74, I agree with you probably he exaggerates his devotion to Slythering and his hate to Griffyndor bocouse of Voldemort.

What would Snape's happy memory be to conjure a patronus?
It is very difficult because my beloved Snape haven’t a lot of good memories. I think first time he discovered his powers, when he knew he was a wizard
Padfoot08
Happy New Year to everyone!
Alan is going to star in the Star Trek X movie ...
Errr... Sorry to burst anyones bubble, but I highly doubt that he would have anything to do with Star Trek. *shrug* I remember him saying something about 'running to turn the tele off' when the show came on. It was from his appearence on Conan.
I heard a rumor a long time ago about him being on an episode of Smallville (an American sitcom about Superman). Anyone heard anything else about it?
passerby
laugh.gif Also with the bubble-bursting: Star Trek X has already been produced, released, and bombed. tongue.gif There was a rumor before the movie that Rickman was going to play the villian, but it didn't happen. (Star Trek XI is currently under "production" if you can call it that without a script, but there have been no rumors for Alan to be a part of the project. . . as for him not being affiliated with the Star Trek enterprise (oh, I kill myself!), I'd have to disagree, padfoot. He did do "Galaxy Quest," after all!)

He was also never in Smallville. .. a show I watch regularly, so I think I might have noticed! biggrin.gif I think people probably confused his name with Alan Ritchson's, who was in a couple of episodes of season one.

What's this I hear about "Acts of Charity?"
witchmom
Yeah, ladies, the Star Trek rumour has been my mistake...sorry...I wanted to edit it immediately but I fell awfully ill and then I forgot to do it......because, I'm a quite avid Star Trek fan, and I didn't realized that the tenth movie was Nemesis!!!! I'm such a stoooopid!!

Anyway, yesterday I was watching the new ER episodes and during ad I was doing zapping...and I found Quigley something (sorry, my brain functions aren't totally ok at the moment). Alan was quite handsome there!!!

Well, tomorrow is the BIG DAY. First Severus' celebrations day!! I'm going to post the plans today, so stay...tuned laugh.gif

Janet, I somehow knew that you would come up with the perfect word for the letter X! Argh! I just realised that I put my X in for W and no W word....better go back and edit that one.

I am so rubbish at this and I wrote it down on a piece of paper before typing it in! sad.gif

Do you think that Snape, as Head of Slytherin's House, is using favouritism and partiality to aid his Slytherin students?
He held back one of his own house another year so I’ll say no.

What would Snape's happy memory be to conjure a patronus?
Since public humiliation seemed to be part of the bad memory the opposite should prove true. So I’ll say public recognition for doing something brilliant. Or how about the day he was appointed as Head of Slytherin House? That would be pretty choice!

I celebrated Snape’s B-Day last year by ditching work and seeing GoF at the IMAX. Does this give me a ‘free-pass’? My brain’s gone foggy… Z

But there's enough room for everyone's alphabet here...c'mon, don't be shy.... wink.gif In the meantime, enjoy this image I found on deviantart (I'll be posting one each day), by the wonderful artist Perselus.

Well, in a few hours I'll give instructions for tomorrow's activities...FUN, FUN, FUN!!!

Janet, I don't know what these Acts of Charity are, but I know that Alan supports several initiatives in the social, from LEPRA, to RADA students. He donates some of his personal belongings to raise money, or the fanlists all over the world raise money on his name for charity.
I have a few contacts, so if anyone is interested, just ask me and I'll link you the sites where the charity fundraisings take place. Generally, his birthday in february is the expiring date for donating.

Elaine, you are definately not rubbish at this! Let me introduce you to my writing friend. I hope you two get on very well together. Really, you should never be parted.

vortext, my favorite one of yours is "hungry!" Just made me laugh.

I think that most teachers would probably try to further those members in their house along to the best of their ability. This instance certainly shows that Snape is not always partial, but on the whole I think he allows Slytherins to get away with things that non-Slytherins couldn't get away with in his presense. Mostly Malfoy. But he's told him off before, too, so I'm not convinced that he's partial, or rather just partial against Harry.

Clara, "Acts of Charity" is the title of a movie that he's connected with. I just didn't know anything about his character, the plot, how involved he is and that sort of thing. Not that it should overshadow Alan's actual Acts of Charity!

Do you know the monthly magazine SFX? In the December 2006 (number 150) issue there is this hit list:“150 things we love about SF”.
The n. 100 is:
100 Snape: because he’s so baaaaad. But you suspect (hope?) he’s not really, which makes him mysterious. And if you are a woman, that means you can dream you might be the one to redeem him.

Other things in the list: the Batmobile, the Spock's ears, the Deloren from "Back to the future", the robot Maria from "Metropolis".
SFX is very serious but full of English humour magazine about science fiction and fantasy. There aren’t other hp-world mentions even if often the magazine talks about the hp books and movies. A friend of a my friend purchases it in UK for us, so we read it (because it is very difficult to find it in my town). The SFX editor are very expert about SF&F, they really love this subjet and it is very difficult to impress them: Snape reaches.

You are "Blister" by Our Lady Peace. You're haunted by a past that you regret, and are persued by those who you were at one time sided with. At the same time, you find that others want to know of your past and leave you when you refuse to speak of it.

Still, accurate.

Oh, funtimes! My results:

Do You Really Know Severus Snape?: "You know your Professor very well. You are more than just acquainted, you are close friends. To you he is not Professor Snape, he is Severus!"

Which Snape Are You?: (This one makes me laugh) You are Canon!Snape- surly, greasy and unrivaled president of the 'We Hate Potter' club. You favour the Slytherins and think Gryffindors are a bunch of blathering idiots. You are absolutely right. *cough* You are also as mysterious as you are acerbic. You spend most of your time not shagging Sirius Black and not lusting [illegally] after your students. Instead, you lust after the DADA Professorship in between threatening other Professors and getting bitten by three-headed dogs. You are most likely to go down in history for making the largest number of petitions for Harry's expulsion at Hogwarts staff meetings.

This quiz would dearly like to know how the hell a fictional character managed to get on the internet. "

Would You be Mrs. Snape? No, I would be Mrs. Remus Lupin. (AAWWWW!! I love Lupin!)

How Similar to Severus Snape Are You?: You got 40 points.

You and Severus Snape are quite similar. Your interests intersect at certain points, and your reactions/emotional responses are not too different.

Who Are You in Relationship to Severus Snape?: "You are me! You are a fellow sensible Snape fan! Hoorah! And you are probably as pathetic as me to put yourself in a Snape quiz! Hoorah! Haha! tongue.gif" (My favorite part about this one (besides all the squeeing fangirl answers. . .heh) is that the results were delivered below a BEAUTIFUL Waterhouse painting. Favorite artist!)

Is Severus Snape for you?: You got 500 points.

Well, either you're a member of WIKTT or just insane. Does that make sense to you? Does it? (I don't see why I have to be either WIKTT or insane! I'll take the both, I think. Right, Elaine? tongue.gif )

How Snape-ish are you?: "Congratulations! You truly are a miserable git." (Oh Happy Day!)

Do you think you could date Professor Snape?: "You got 155 points.

Snape is already yours. It is a perfect match!!" (Yeah, mine and everyone else's!)

Which song representing Severus Snape are you?"

- Who Are You in Relationship to Severus Snape? You are Headmaster Albus Dumbledore! You are probably the only person Severus Snape trusts and well...loves. You are his true friend and loyal ally. Congratulations!

After an ultra-busy day, I'm managing to post my answers before I fall asleep!!

- Do you really know Severus Snape?
You know your Professor very well. You are more than just acquainted, you are close friends. To you he is not Professor Snape, he is Severus!

- Which Snape are you?
You are Superior!Snape- though largely a fanon invention, this quiz hails you as The True Snape [tm]. Your conversation largely consists of witty putdowns and sardonic banter. You are eloquent, intelligent, smooth as satin and twice as sexy. The fangirls & boys drool after you. You are often alone because, let's face it, most of the world simply can't measure up. The fact that the Gryffindors hate your guts proves they're intellectually subnormal and don't realise that you hate everyone equally. You spend your time mocking the world and attending Sex Pistols concerts. Who said greasy hair can't be a fashion trend?
History remembers you because your tongue was so sharp that you sliced yourself in two.

- Would you be Mrs Snape?
Mrs Severus Snape...no doubts!

- How similar to Severus Snape are you?
You and Severus Snape are quite similar. Your interests intersect at certain points, and your reactions/emotional responses are not too different.

- Is Severus Snape for you?
Well, either you're a member of WIKTT or just insane.

- How Snape-ish are you?
Congratulations! You truly are a miserable git.

- -Do you think you could date Professor Snape?
Snape is already yours. It is a perfect match!!

-Which song representing Severus Snape are you?
You are "Here to Stay" by Korn. You've decided to take you life into a new direction, and have resolved to become a member of the "other side" since your realization that you need something else. You plan to work between sides without the knowledge of the Death Eaters, and you'd better hope that they don't find out; if they do, you'll undoubedtly be killed. You know this, and try to be caustious.

See you tomorrow with SnapeWeek's Third Day!!!

-How similar to Severus Snape are you? You have quite a few superficial things in common with Severus Snape. Were he an actual person, you two have enough in common that you would get on quite well, however you remain fundamentally quite different.

-Which song representing Severus Snape are you? You are "Hate Every Beautiful Day" by Sugarcult. The sun and brilliance of a day that most seem to find beautiful mocks you, and you abhor this. You prefer to live in gloomy weather as it usually suits your mood and fits your attitude very well.

Just confessing: I'm way too pathetic. I just spent a lot of time retaking that "Is Snape For You?" quiz because we all kept getting the ultra confusing WIKTT or insane response. . .So, I answered it with the most unlike Snape answers I could think of (Like, I LOVE LIFE! and Teen Magzines and the like) and I got "Big Potential." I'm so confused. I'm going to do it again. biggrin.gif (I warned you. This is one of my most pathetic posts ever!)

Every other combination gets me that WIKTT thing. I tried to answer everything as Snapelike as possible that time and it gave me WIKTT or insane shpeal. What gives! I demand a refund! (Oh, that's right. . .this was just for fun. Got it.)

OK, here we are...DAY THREE!!!

I am sorry, today's planned activity was the Fanfic Challenge, but I'm postponing it because our Fanfic Coordinator Emily has got serious troubles with her connection, so we are not communicating easily these days. So, instead of the Fanfic Challenge, we will work on songs today...

SONGS THAT REMIND US OF SEVERUS

We had already talked about songs quickly in the previous thread, but I think there are plenty of songs that hit that hidden chord inside us.
I mean, I want to know which songs remind you of Severus, not only for their words, but for the overall atmosphere they can suggest.... I want to know "Why" that particular song gives you the image of our beloved Slytherin Potion master.

I have a little list actually, and it could be really a fantastic thing to "make" a Severus compilation at the end of the week. Every language is allowed: French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese..and if you quote words, please provide the translation into English.

I'm here to listen...

tongue.gif How's that working out for you, with him being your nemesis and all?! tongue.gif

Songs. Hmm. Laurette knows that I've been salivating over Josh Groban's new CD lately. There are a couple of songs in there that really struck a chord ( rolleyes.gif ) with my fanfic Snape. I think they might work well for the canon Snape, too, if he were ever in certain situations.

"In Her Eyes," I love for him. Part of the lyrics are "I am not a hero/I am not an angel/ I am just a man. . ." I think that really is perfect for him. He's just Severus, trying to be himself in his world shrouded with deceit and danger.

The other one in that speaks to my fanfic Severus is "February Song." The melody in this song is very haunting. Here's a snippet:

QUOTE
Where has that old friend gone
Lost in a February song
Tell him it won't be long
Til he opens his eyes, opens his eyes
Where is that simple day
Before colors broke into shades
And how did I ever fade
Into this life, into this life

And I never want to let you down
Forgive me if I slip away
When all that I've known is lost and found
I promise you I, I'll come back to you one day

I think this one reminds me of my ideal Severus, with the events of canon still intact.

Simon and Garfunkle's (yes, I listen to them!) "I Am A Rock," really reminds me of him , too. He is that man! "I've built walls/ A fortress deep and mighty/ That none may penetrate/ I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain/ It's laughter and it's loving I disdain/ I am a rock/ I am an island." Seriously, good Snape song!

There are a lot of songs out there, aren't there, that remind of Snape! I wish I had my brain about me so I could remember them all! A compilation CD sounds very fun, Clara! You're the queen of compilations!

But it gets so lonely
Being on my own
No one to talk to
And no one to hold me
I'm not always strong
