Whilst attempting to think of a hobby that Snape would enjoy I suddenly had this great mental image of Snape poking a long stick into a badger hole and running away giggling when the badger got mad and came out. He was holding his robes up in one hand and everything!

*laughs until she cries*

Oh my, that was fun! tongue.gif

I think Snape's hobby is quite obvious, he likes to take spells, potions, etc. and make them more effective. He likes to take these things apart and figure out how they work then put them back together to be more powerful, efficient, etc... All the notes in his book seem to point to that. (And I do think they are his own notes as it seems greatly out of character for Lily to have invented "sectumsempra")

And decoupage, I bet he loves decoupage....

Cheers!

I have not been on this thread in ages so could someone please help me out here! sleep.gif I am mad but I have been going through other things and this was not what I needed.

Do you think Snape had a hobbie that did make him happy? or what might a happy Snape be like?

I think that when Severus was younger and had the time or was hiding in the Library from the Marauders or hiding in his room from his father, his hobby was indeed exactly like HRH_Hermione says. I think he loved to disect spells and make them better. I think he was looking for ways to get an edge from them, perhaps get a faster result while brewing potions. Now days I think Severus is much to busy with spying on Voldemort for Dumbledore and spying on Dumbledore for Voldemort. He is also got his hands full keeping an eye out for Draco and if history serves us well, also looking out for Harry. He doesn't have time for a hobby. I also don't think Severus has truly been happy since...oh probably since he could levitate his spoon at the breakfast table all by himself as a toddler- things since then seem to have gotten all muddied up

Oh, by the way...poking a stick in a badger hole giggling with his robes up...funny when I pictured him doing it at age 12.

Sorry to have upset you snaperules! sad.gif I do love Snape, it's just sometimes I get these really absurd ideas late at night.....

The whole badger-poking episode I envisioned was when he was a kid, definately not an activity I can see the adult Alan Rickman-Snape engaging in!

However I was serious about the whole potions/hobby thing, I hope my little light-hearted jest didn't prevent you from reading that part.

Cheers!

Cobra
Rofl. I can just picture him doing that as a kid, like 7 maybe 8. Lol. Not in a bad way. He wouldn't do it either, but it is funny.I deffinetly don't think that he would hold his robes up and run. He would probably curse it or poison its food, to test his work. I to like Snape but it is okay to poke fun at everyone once in a while.

A happy Snape*shudders* that is scary.
I think he would try to perfect his spells, jinxes, and potion, just like HRH_Hermione said.He wanted to be ready for anything.

Rickmansmissus I remember you! Hope that you get a chance to drop by more often!
What is that about a badger hole? laugh.gif

For us more Alan Rickman related fans: Did you all see the interview of him today? Here's the link if you missed it. He looks really sexy!! I love that his hair is long. meow! Anybody else just want to run their fingers through it? wub.gif

Never seen Dogma!

blink.gif We must change that! If you have some time they have the entire movie over here. They just have the movie split up into sections. It is a pretty good movie. cool.gif
nevillesgirl
Ohhh thank you thank you thank you for that wonderful link. Yeah, the hair thing really is a bit yummy. happy.gif But seriously, does she have to rub his shoulder? totally jealous there. The movie actually looks really good. I have autistic students and besides the Rickman factor, that is my other reason for wanting to see the film..

I totally shuddered my way through Dogma...too much implied violence with a religious theme and not enough Rickman to make it worth my while to see again.
workaholic_1231
Wow! its been a whole week without me getting to read and talk about Alan Rickman! I sure have missed SOSS!!
Well this is quite ironic that you all are talking about Dogma becuase I just watched it this morning and taped it.
I would have to agree with Nevillesgirl about the shuddering. Its very wiloent, and too reliegious for me, but i saw the unrated version once, and theres a scene where Rickman drops his pants, and theres nothing there becuase hes an 'angel' and i gasped.
*gasps again at thought* ohmy.gif
nevillesgirl
Okay so I know I'm a tad off topic, however since this is still about Severus, I don't feel too bad. I was browsing the fan submitted videos just now and came across one that one of our fellow members LilyPotter had done last year. It was amazing!! It was called Snape-Dead or Alive. I would encourage all of you to head over there and check it out.

I started watching Dogma last night and although it is funny in a stooopid, teenager sort of way, I found lack of Rickman disturbing...its like that in most of his movies. Also I would have prefered to have the scene deleted where Alan drops his pants revealing something of a Eunich thing...I definately could have that image erased from my memory *Yuck!*, Seriously though, if I just focus on his voice and not watch the movie, I could be somewhat happy.

I didn't know Rickman even played Meditron until after I had watched HP and then re-watched Dogma; I about squirted soda out of my nose. I was like, "OMG, It's SNAPE!"

And my brother kind of looked at me funny.

And then Snape dropped his pants, and I really did squirt soda out of my nose.

I liked the movie, but maybe that's because I like stupid teenager things, lol.

Thats really funny Chimes! Though I think the movie is kind of pushing it at some points, I wish we could've seen more of Alan's character. As for the dropping his pants part, I gasped! ohmy.gif lol that was definitely an umm... interesting movie. tongue.gif

Not meaning to stop the current conversation, but I was wondering if anyone had like a list of their favorite Rickman movies? I thought it might be a good idea to share feedback! smile.gif
Mine includes:
-All the HP movies of course
-Blow Dry
-Robin Hood Prince of Theives
-Die Hard
-Snow Cake
-Dogma
and -Galaxy Quest
(really in no particular order)
Sorry if this is considered off topic, but I thought it could be interesting laugh.gif

OMG! I haven't posted on here for so long! How could you, Emily, you're supposed to be a loyal Snapeaholic! *looks sheepish*

Anyway, back to business. HRH_Hermione, I just read your idea, and it really is hilarious. With your 'getting weird ideas late at night' sounds just like me - except I do it all the time!!

I'm afraid I've never seen Dogma, so I can't contribute to that conversation sad.gif - although considering what you've all been saying, I'm not sure I want to!

Hi workaholic_1231! I think that's a great idea (comparing feedback on his movies, that is)! Well, I've seen Die Hard - brilliant film, I must say, especially when watched in the middle of the night while the rest of your family is asleep. I've also seen Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves - I love that film, despite the stupidness of casting Kevin Costner, mainly because of Alan Rickman's amazingness! He really is quite hysterical to watch in that film. But Robin's friend (the black guy who I can't remember the name of) is really sweet as well. Obviously, I've seen all the HP movies - and we all know that they're great. Galaxy Quest is actually amazing! Especially Alan! If you haven't seen it, watch it now! Although he's not playing quite the same character as Snape...

Well, that may not be quite the feedback people were wanting, but it's the best I can do at this point - I'm not feeling very well, and have to get some coursework done (which I am obviously doing)

Luv y'all!

Firstly, if you're a huge Rickman fan, see Dogma, becuase though it has an umm... interesting?... plot, its still worth seeing. Also, Robin's friend that you were referring to is Morgan Freeman, another great actor. smile.gif

As for Snow Cake, I'm dying to see it!! I found out it comes in thaeter on May 11th in the states, but those of you from other countries who already have it on DVD are lucky! I'm jealous! wink.gif
snapeslittlewitchie

I already watched Love Actually more than a week ago and I was kinda annoyed with him there. Although, of course, not as annoyed as I am by his secretary there. He let himself get seduced by that slutty secretary! mad.gif So annoying... I hate that part when Rickman (harry in the movie of course, how ironic) was in front of her, and she's wearing a skirt and she spread her legs wide open. What a flirt. dry.gif Okay... I'll calm myself down, it's just a movie.

Anyways, I think I wanna see Dogma. The problem is, where I live, there are barely any rickman movies in the stores except for the popular movies So there's no dogma, and blow dry...

Anyway, let's work our asses off to keep this thread alive!!!

Beloved he is! wub.gif lol!
Well for me, my favorite book with Severus was deffinitely HBP, becuase it was the book where we got to see more of him. He appeared more, and we saw deeper into his past. This is what helps unfold the mystery of Snape, which I hope we'll get more of in DH, and thats what truly made it my favortie regarding his character. As for the moment with the book, I would have to say it would either be
*when Draco and Severus were talking after Malfoy was found trying to sneak in the party, and Harry was eavesdropping, or...
**My other option would be during the 'flight of the prince', when we find out that Snape is the Half Blooded Prince.
*My reasoning behind the first choice is that it really showed Severus in a way we havent seen him before, he's usually so intimidating, and he was letting Draco talk to him like he was dirt. He seemed to show slight compassion, or at least for the fact that he wants to help Draco ((irregardless of the negative situation wink.gif )).
**My reasoning behind the second choice is that when Harry called Severus a coward, and he reacted so angrily, it showed him sticking up for himself. This seems like somewhat of a breakthrough for Snape, considering he was always being bullied in his school years by Sirius and James, and now hes finally taking a stand against Harry. I just think of it as a breakthrough for Severus! smile.gif
~~ As for my favorite Severus Snape quote, it's too hard to choose. From SS I like the "our new celebrity quote" becuase it was the whole first impression of his character, but there are so many others I'm sure would surpass this, but I'm drawing only blanks unsure.gif ((lack of sleep)) tongue.gif

Hello all sorry for my severe absense yes I am alive.

Um you will have to forgive me as I dont think I can pick one Snape quote from the book, and I would probably re-read all the books to find one so I'll go with a movie one first even though i realise thats not the question but it will get me thinking.

"Turn to page three hundred and ninety four" ah its great, classic! The way alan say's it, it really shows off his 'unique' annunciation and sometimes odd sound he has in his voice, i know i would be dead silent if he walked into my class and said that, not to mention the shutting of the well shutters and all, and the fact it would mean alan rickman was teaching me but aside from that, that's my fav. movie quote.

Sorry if movie references weren't exactly what you were after but on PS when he's got quirrel up against the wall talking about where his loyalties lie he turns around to grab, well harry but the air really and then he rolls his fingers round to point back at quirrel i love that moment.

Ok I've thought of some book ones, its not so much a quote but a moment, I have the clearest image of hurt, anger and even embarassment as if he were standing naked infront of 100 harry's when he pulls him out of the pensieve after he sees his worst memory I just feel so sorry for him, it would have been horrible.

Oh yeah and workaholic_1231 the "coward" line is the best one! And partially because most of the population believe him to be guilty and at that point they become confused because they want to dislike him but cant help pity and understand his situation, its just so painfull! - excellent writing

Um that's all I've got at the moment but I might be back with more because i just re-read it and that wasnt that good... smile.gif
WingzofDoom
Well, workaholic_1231, I'm glad I gave you the feedback you wanted. I will try and watch Dogma, and Blow Dry (although I've never heard of it before) because if they have Alan in them, then they must be great. smile.gif

I have no idea when my favourite Snape moment is! They're all great! Hmmm...let's think (I'll look in the books later, but I can't be bothered right now)...

Well, I do like it in PoA when he bursts into the Shack because I just find it hilarious for some reason. Or was that the film that I found funny? Oh well... but the bit after that when he protects them is really sweet - although I think that may be in the movie too...
You may have guessed that my brain is feeling a bit jumbled right now.

Actually, I think my favourite moments may be in Snape's Worst Memory (in and out if the penseive) because it's so sad, and a real insight - and also when he makes the Unbreakable Vow. That's just so sweet, the way that Cissy depends on him - makes you reconsider the picture of him you had from the Memory, doesn't it? No? Well, it did for me, anyway! happy.gif Oh, and Drinotonks, I totally agree with you about the painfulness (is that a word?) of the Memory!

~ Yeah, picking just one doens't seem fair but for now I think this is one of my favorite Book moments.

PoA pg 418-420

And then as tehy both took a fourth piece of chocolate from Madam Pomfrey, they heard a distant roar of fury echoing form somewhere above them...

(Fudge speaking)
"He must have Disapparated, Severus. We should have left somebody in the room with him. When this gets out..."-speaking of Sirius' escape

"HE DIDN'T DISAPPARATE!" Severus roared, now very close at hand. "YOU CANT APPARATE OR DISAPPARATE INSIDE THIS CASTLE. THIS-HAS-SOMETHING-TO-DO-WITH-POTTER!"

Severus-be reasonable-Harry has been locked up-"...

Dumbledore alone looked calm. Indeed, he looked as though he was quite enjoying himself. Fudge appeared angry. But Snape was beside himself.

"OUT WITH IT, POTTER!" he bellowed. "WHAT DID YOU DO?"

"Professor Snape!" shrieked Madam Pomfrey. "Control yourself!"

"See here Snape, be reasonable," said Fudge. "This door's been locked, we just saw-"

"THEY HELPED HIM ESCAPE, I KNOW IT!" Snape howled, pointing at Harry and Hermione. His face was twisted; spit was flying from his mouth.

"Calm down man!" Fudge barked. "You're talking nonsense!"

"YOU DON'T KNOW POTTER!" shrieked Snape. "HE DID IT, I KNOW HE DID IT-"...

"Fellow seems quite unbalanced," said Fudge...
___________________

I love this exchange. I wish it would have made the cut of the movie because I would have loved to see Rickman have a chance to portray Severus so unglued. I actually find this part somewhat amusing and a little sad because once again not only Harry, but the mauraders have hoodwinked Snape.

This is rather lengthy so I will post my quote at a different time.

I, like the lot of you have way too many favorite moments in the books and the movies but frankley I do have one that stands out for me more than the rest. I am surprised no one has said it yet but my absolute favorit part/ quote of the books/ movies is Harrys first Potions Lesson...you all know it but here it is.

You are here to learn the subtle science and exact art of potionmaking," he began. [...] I don't expect you will really understand the beauty of the softly simmering cauldron with its shimmering fumes, the delicate power of liquids that creep through human veins, bewitching the mind, ensnaring the senses ... I can teach you how to bottle fame, brew glory, even stopper death -- if you aren't as big a bunch of dunderheads as I usually have to teach." (PS8)
I love when he says it in the movie its like being caressed with words wub.gif ...but I love everything Allen says.
nevillesgirl
I have a bunch of favorite Severus quotes...but I will pick just two for now.

"No Unforgivable Curses from you,Potter!"..."You haven't got the nerve or the ability-"

"Blocked again and again until you learn to keep your mouth shut and your mind closed, Potter!"

Both from the HBP.

**As I was searching for my quotes, I noticed the spell that Snape hits Harry with on pg 604. After Severus slashes the air a white-hot whiplike something hit him across the face and slammed Harry backward into the ground. His vision was impaired and he had a loss of breath. What spell do you suppose that was? Does it leave a mark?**

Sorry that was a bit off topic. Please continue withthe fav moments and quotes. I was just curious about this spell and why Severus decides to use this particular one.

Sory about the offtopic

~This is not at all off topic. It adds a new question to the conversation and just gives us Snapelovers more to talk about. I actually think this is a very good question. My answer to this would have to be yes, Snape knew what skills Harry would need to defeat Voldemort. He also probably knew that this would be his only opportunity to teach him because the Dark Arts Job was jinxed. I think that Severus made sure that he armed Harry with the knowledge of nonverbal spells. He also reiterated the importance of Harry being able to close his mind which as we all know is very important and not something that Harry can do just yet. Isn't our Severus thoughtful? wub.gif Isn't he wonderful for being able to try and lay his differences asside and help Harry? Makes me just want to hug.gif him.
Drinotonks
Yes I agree that Snape did all he could to basically "protect" or for a better word "prepare" harry adequately for his final show down and any inbetweens with voldie oncei n his DADA position. The only problem is the Snape/Harry relationship isnt all that good so Harry was reluctant to fully explore these skills - such as occlumency and then when a certain crisis occured with a certain someone it only made Harry question that position that Snape was in. ie that he was weakening his mind and entering it. When Dumbledore realised he should personally teach him sure he took over. Also Snapes feelings towards Harry were also not that high so it's possible that he taught him the bare miniumum on account of keeping Dumbledore happy? Kind of a well if you're not going to try then im not going to try attitiude towards harry?

But in terms of Snape teaching them non-verbal spells i think that would have been in the curriculum? I dont know did it seems like an over emphasis on the need to know it was on harry more than others? Ill have to go and check, maybe it was just DD telling Snape what to do so he obliged?

hmm i guess there is this quote:

QUOTE
"Blocked again and again until you learn to keep yuor mouth shut and your mind closed, Potter!"

but was he just being annoyed at harry because he can be? Or was he preparing him for a more voldie approach in a situation like this, i mean not that voldie would ever be teaching him...hmm dont think that sentence made much sense...

So basically yes he was trying to teach him the necessary skills however in retrospect he probably was the least suitable person to do it on account of their relationship and willingness to believe or help each other, harry does was DD says and snape says what DD says so they only ended up together on account of DD's orders.

Also Snapes feelings towards Harry were also not that high so it's possible that he taught him the bare miniumum on account of keeping Dumbledore happy? Kind of a well if you're not going to try then im not going to try attitiude towards harry?

Well we all know Snape doesnt have the highest (for lack of a better term) admiration for Harry, but I still think that during his Occlumency lessons, Snape seemed to be teaching him fairly well. As for the last part of what you said there, about "if you're not going to try then I wont either"I can see where you're coming from with that, becuase Severus doesnt exactly have a vast amount of patience with Harry, and I think he was starting to see the lessons as a waste of time if Harry wasnt going to participate.

Yes you're so right gryffindorphoenix! He is an amazing character and I too admire Alan Rickman. Welcome to SOSS!

Sigh... does anyone have any idea at all how the hell I can get my hands on Dogma??? I saw clips from the movie and i just wanna watch it! Where. Can. I. Get. It. AArrrghhhhhhhh!!! dry.gif
vortext
Dogma should be in the comedy section at the vid rental store or library if you got a progressive one. I haven’t watched it because it seems to be on the Comedy Central cable station often. I figure I’ll run into it eventually.

Question to ask!
If you met someone who looked very much like Rickman’s Snape would you go out with him? Would you ditch your significant other to do so? wink.gif
Cobra
From reading your answers I think that I was right. Even though I didn't answer it myself. Snape was trying to prepare him. He did also get in his making fun of Harry. (I can't think of the right word.) Thank-you guys for your help!! smile.gif

snapeslittlewitchie if doing what vortext said doesnt work, Dogma is on Comedy Central a lot, so you could check that out too smile.gif

Hmm. unsure.gif Well as much as I love the character, I dont think that doing something like that would be very fair to my significant other. Although I know there could be other reasons.

Wow, where'd everybody go the last couple of days?!
I think its end of term tests thats keeping everyone away! sad.gif its so stressful!

Well I've got a question:
What does everyone think about the actor who is playing young Severus?
(For instance his appearance in accordiance to his written description.)
*I will voice my opinion after a couple posts smile.gif

Hmmm. I’ll take Snape down from the Astronomy tower tonight and get that piece up tomorrow. I like how everyone has a personal slant on Severus’ life. Hugs back to Clara!

It’s freaking gorgeous outside!
I like the young Severus, played by whatshisface. I doubt there’s more for him to do in Deely Heely.

Ditch, no. I’m with someone who really understands me. But if that boy's slacking...

I’m asking that question because I know a 30-ish ringer. So close looks-wise I want to know if A.Rickman’s got relatives in the States. Maybe I’ll start a similar post to the Does this Girl look like Emma Watson? AARG! I love the ARRG! sentiment. happy.gif

~*hangs head in shame* I haven't even looked at that in a while. Apologies. Will try and head over there in the next few days.

~Yeah, schools almost out and there is a lot to be done on that front. Summers comin' though....!

To be honest, I don't know if I ever really looked at the photo of young Snape, so I couldn't tell you if he is doing justice to our favorite character. Where can I go to take a looksy at him so I can better formulate my opinions?

~I prefer the real thing so unless it is actually Alan Rickman knocking on my door I don't think I would even be tempted. wink.gif Besides, if you are with someone now who brings out the best in you, why mess with a good thing?

I have no idea if Alan has reletives in the States? Interesting....

Here's the address to that pic under my photobucket thing. Unfortunately I have only found the picture of the actor Alec Hopkins, but not in character, so thats what this link leads to.

Well I read once that Alan's siblings (2 brothers and a sister if i still actually remember) but no specifications as to where they lived, so who knows!
Vortext, the link that you posted led to a Hermione look-a-like, but I never saw a Rickman look-a-like.

Okay, I am going to put a link to the Snape fanfic here just for easy accessibility. I hope to see everyone there posting about our favorite man.

As I promised yesterday I added a new piece I wrote last night. I really want to see more, please go wherever your imagination takes you. tongue.gif

I also promise to get permission to post the AR look-a-like. I can be very convincing and will see if I can get similar poses so you can compare the two. Name-brand vs. American Generic.

Thank you vortext for taking the first step to revive our Snape fanfic. I already had a looksy and am formulating a new chap.

I have a question. Have we ever discussed Severus' wand?

What type of wand did he have? I don't think we know the answer to this so I think we could speculate on the type and size and what core would it contain. Does anyone think Severus ever broke a wand in battle? I think it would be fun to have a go at this...

Huh, I never even thought about it. huh.gif As for his wand type I'm utterly clueless.
You asked about him breaking it in battle, I really can't see that happening. To me he has this aura, for lack of a better word, that makes him seem somewhat invincible-ish. He seems like someone who, when you're in the same room as him, you would give him all of your attention because it would only be obvious to do so. It's this that makes me feel like he would never allow his wand to be broken in battle. But who knows really, I mean nobody's perfect. wink.gif

Well as for the wand, I am pretty sure it does not state what it is. I think it would be something like a core of, an acromantula (sp?) web or claw or tooth. As for the wood, maybe pine... I don't think he broke a wand in battle because I think he would have sort of worshipped his wand for lack of a better word. Like he cherished it that is better because it was his source of power. I don't htink he would have let it get broken.

~I actually don't have a clue as to the type of wand. I want to research it more. Maybe by his birthdate or something. I think we can rule out a unicorn tale or a pheonix feather as a core. I was thinking about a core that had some power and unpredictability to it. Maybe I will find some help in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

On a seperate note...three cheers for me...I added to the Snapeweek Fanfic. It's a short piece but it got my feet wet. Hopefully more creative ideas will come flowing out of me because of it? Won't you join in?

Finals are next week for me, and to relax in between studying I'm taking a break and running to the computer to read sections at a time so I can add my '2 cents' into the story. tongue.gif Sorry for the short post... but I wanted to explain why you have yet to hear from me through the fan fic. wink.gif
