Alrighty, so I've made a small list of the things they HAVE to include in the movie LoL

1) The Advance Guard (they better not think of some cheap way around it to save $)
2) Kreacher
3) Fred and George's "departure" from Hogwarts...this is one of my favourite parts of the whole book, and if they cut it I'll be very putout. But seeing as they left out the gold Harry gives them towards their jokeshop, or any mention of it at all, I have my doubts.
4) OWLS
5) Detention w/Umbridge...it is essential in getting the audience to truly loath her

Anyways, I won't get my hopes up, but I just don't understand why they have to cut so much. If they are concerned about length, they are wrong...I mean, who here could sit through 4 hours of HP without getting bored? I know I could...maybe even longer.

Either way, I sooooo can't wait for this movie. If only I had a time-turner..

Well obviously they will not split it into two movies. That is just wishful thinking. Of course any and all references to Peeves or house elves will be cut, that just seems to their Modus Operandi. As for me I cannot wait for the Weasly scene where Fred and George leave Hogwarts. I will scream bloody blue murder if THAT gets cut!

Peeves hasn't appeared in any of the other movies, so he is a natural cut....Ummm...they have to leave in Fred and George leaving...so classic and it kinda plays into book 6 a little too...I wish they wouldn't cut anything. The final chapter where they see Harry off at the platform and warn his guardians to be nice will get cut i bet...and one more big thing that may get cut...cleaning Grimmauld place and the travel to the hearing...too bad, would have loved to see the strange things in that house.

hmmm... you're definitely right! coz' OotP's really long, so it would automatically mean that they will have some scenes cut.. it's really frustrating but that's almost a protocol...

I read in an article that GOF was going to have to be made into 2 movies, but the director widdled it down into one. So if GOF was going to be two movies, OotP is like three, which they're making into one! So heaps of stuff will be cut.

As much as I love the Weasley twins' exit, I truly think they will cut it...there's just so much else to work in and they haven't mentioned any of their joke shop stuff or Harry giving them his GOf winnings, etc.. etc..I'm highly doubtful that subplot will make it.

Look at how much had to be shaved from GOF - even more is bound to be missing from OotP and the Weasleys exit doesn't strike me as essential enough. I hope I'm wrong!

Really, the movie would be way too long if they had put everything in it. The fifth book is significantley longer than the fourth, I think. I hope they have alot of details in the fifth movie,

I'd say a lot of the Ministry Fighting scene would have to be cut (Oh, but I hope not...) Probably a lot of the class scenes, minus the ones with Umbridge, since they kind of have to keep those in.

Yes, I believe so. Kreacher, most likely, and a lot of the Order.

How will the death of Sirius be dealt with?
I think that the Death will still happen the same way, simply because they speak about it in future books (Half Blood Prince) and it would be very strange to change it.

WB hasn`t anounce yet if they are going to cut it into one or two movies so we still have a chance there will be two movies and so it won´t be so much of the fifth book left out,rigth?

And Chillaine what are you talking about them leaving the MoM fight scene out. Are you on drugs. I mean thats like the biggest part of the book. as for breaking OotF in to multiple movies, i'm saying go for it if it means that they will puut more into the movies. i can recall stories about my grans going to a movie that took all day with a lunch intermition.

the twins exit is a must as is the swamp. detention with &$#&# should be nessasary for motivation at the very least.

They wont cut it into four movies but I know this! I'm sorry to say this as when I first heard it I was devastated as this was one of my favourite parts. They have cut out the Quidditich and we will not see Ron Weasley try as keeper. We can not even sing along to Weasley is our King. ( i know i can hear the groans)

Well i know that Grawp, Kreacher, and the threstals are NOT cut, which is a good thing. I am not sure about that many other things although i know that much of the DA was cut out. Only the main characters remained. And we all know that quiditch is not in it. I think the movie will be fine even with the cuts that the producers made.

Yeah they're bound to cut out some stuff but as one other posted half of the book is just thinking.

I'm really looking forward to the OOTP movie. I just hope they don't cut anything out that is important to the last two books. It's annoying when people who havn't read the books ask questions when something crops up in the films that they don't quite understand. Especially now as the books are getting longer.

Newsweek Online has recently released some shots and a great tour of some of the sets.

Unlike GOF, the sets look creative. Lets face it, GOF was boring because all of the sets had either been used before or they where simply redecorated to look different. The Ministry of Magic looks so creative!

Many of the characters are very important, and look at PoA!they cut soooooooo much out of that movie, and it was the greatest yet! Plot elements can be combined! Characters can be dropped. The books are so great becasue of one-liners. We hear a random person say something in the hallway, and two words later, we are in another location, then another location. The books can move quickly without making us dizzy. If a movie does that, it has to be an unimportant scene becasue we tend not to pay too much attention.

Look at PoA. In the book, it took almost a whole chapter for Harry to learn that Black was after him. In the movie: 3 minutes, tops. And with a great location, a panning camera, and dramatic music, it was done well! Plus, that ended the scene in Diagon Alley. the next shot = the Train.

People, calm down and don't worry. The sets look creative, and as long as the scenes aren't (too) rushed (PoA was kind of rushed, but still great) and plot elements are nicely combined without it feeling sloppy it'll be good.

GoF was bland. The plot was too simple because the producers decided to take out the one-liners and make the 3 Tasks too long. It didn't build up enough emotion. Harry's dreams are too scary not to build up emotion. So, in short, it'll be hard to ruin OOTP, and the sets already look great.

There are some parts that should be part of the movie, that in my own opinion I think will not. Such as how much time harry gets to spend with Sirius. They should show a great deal of Harry and Sirus' relationship together because I think it is very important to show how much Sirius means to Harry and how much he is loosing (sirius dying). I also think grimand place will not be shown as much as in book 5.

How long do you think that it will go for? Well, Goblet of Fire had a running time of 157 minutes (2 hours, 37 mins). The book had 636 pages, whilst Order of the Phoenix has 766. So not only are we talking about 130 extra pages to translate into film.. but we also have to bear in mind that the content of OotP will be a lot harder to whittle down. With that in mind, I think we're looking at at least 3 hours, possibly more like 3-and-a-half.

Will they split it into two movies? I don't think so. They bent over backwards to keep GoF contained within one film, so I can't see them giving in now :)

What will be left out? (Briefly) here's what I think:

Dudley Demented Left in, because Dudley's Dementor encounter is important to future plots.
A Peck of Owls - Cut out.
The Advance Guard Left in - as Harry's shown in the trailer flying over NY.
Number Twelve, Grimmaud Place Left in, but reduced.
The Order of the Phoenix Left in, reduced.
The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black Left in, reduced.
The Ministry of Magic Cut out: I think the whole Ministry hearing will be cut.

The Sorting Hat’s New Song Not sure.. probably cut.

How will the death of Sirius be dealt with? Honestly and shockingly, like it is in the book. I think it'd be a bit of an insult to the way JKR dealt with it, if they water it down.

But Mrs Figg will be in it very briefly!
The Hearing will be in it too...believe me I doubt they spent so much money making The Trial Room without it having some part in the film...even though it will be miniscule!

I hope that the Order of the Phoenix is longer than the Goblet of Fire. Only because the book itself is longer than the Goblet of Fire book. And I hope that they don't cut out anything at all, especially the really important things. I remember when I saw the Goblet of Fire movie in theaters and I got really disappointed in some of the things that they left out, like the gillyweed incident, it was Dobby who got the gillyweed for Harry not Neville. And I don't think that they are going to leave out any characters only because there are only a few new ones, so it wouldn't make any sense to leave out any new characters. And I really really hope that they catch every detail of Sirius' death, that is if he's dead, and not leave any detail out after Harry realizes that Sirius is gone. But I'm pretty sure that this may be the ultimate movie this year to see!

For real? I thought it was heaps better that they axed Dobby's part in the film of GoF. It works in the book (though I always hated the SPEW storyline) but when you translate the Gillyweed incident onto film, it won't work so well as Dobby is not such a rounded character in the films. It would just seem gratuitous.

And the_one_to_watch - I had totally forgotten about them making the courtroom.. so yeah, that makes total sense to include a scene which utilises that set.

I'm not so chuffed about them including Grawp though.. I don't really like that part in the book.. I just think it's really untimely because it happens at a stage where I think the other storylines are much more exciting, so I'd rather not be reading about Hagrid's half-brother, haha

I woz just thinking... will they cut the St Mungos sequence because i hope not; its important that they include the relevent stuff and i think this scene is relevent to the story.

Perhaps they'll still find out that Mr Weasley has been hurt, and perhaps harry will still have the dream but we will probably just get a glimpse of it as it shouldn't take up too much time in the movie. They definitely won't get rid of Christmas at Grimmald Place because i've seen it in the ABC trailer that they filmed it - Mr Weasley is sitting in the chair draped in knitted jumpers and scarfs so i think this is meant to be him recovering from the injury.

I just thought. They might change the order of when and where harry has the dream because it might make more sense for him to be at Grimmald Place, where they wonder where Mr Weasley has got to, and then he has the dream, and so he wakes up and tells Mrs Weasley and Ron and everyone there and then we wait to here the news that Mr Weasley is at St mUngos being treated. It might be that it then skips to them having Christmas instead of us seeing them visit Mr Weasley at the hospital.

... this is just a suggestion and i already thin even this doesn't make sense, so perhaps harry will just have the dream at Hogwarts and then they hear the news that Mr Weasley is at St Mungos being treated and then we skip to them getting ready to see him when on their way to Grimmald place... or The Burrow... or wherever they decide to have Christmas.

thinking of all the aspects of HP5, it seems like anything that is cut will affect the plot. all i know is that i want to see everything in the Department of Mysteries part of the book, it is my absolute favorite. Also I hope Luna will be shown often, shes an interesting character.

I CAN'T BELEIVE THEY CUT DEAR LITTLE DOBBY!!!! He's SO cute and cuddly and probably by favourite charactor of all the movies. And he's not in this movie!??!?!?! I'm angry fit to burst. His role is really important! And they did the same thing in the last movie. Dobby was supposed to give Harry the gillyweed not Neville! DOBBY!!!! It's so unfair!

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this but will the original actor of Hagrid be cut? i was looking at the confirmed cast in the Movie 5 section and i didn't see him. It also looked like someon else was putting on a different head to be Hagrid instead of the original Robbie Coltrane. Am i crazy or is Hagrid going to be different in OotP. Help?

Robbie Coltrane, is as far as I am aware still playing the role of Hagrd in OotP. The photographs from the film are of his stunt double, who as you can see is a far larger man than Mr Coltrane, and therefore looks more 'giantish' in long shots.

thank you very much etphonehome i thought he would be playing the part again but i wasn't certain after seeing that picture but i guess that makes sense, at first i couldn't figure out what stunts Hagrid would be doing but it makes sense. Robbie coltrane is great as Hagrid in my opinion, it would have been a shame if he had been cut

Well, I'm only gonna tackle one of these topics, the one about how Sirius will die.

It's been awhile since they started releasing information about the movie. The scenes in the ministry haven't really been shown that much, to my knowledge. So, as such, Sirius' death has not been shown, talked about, explained of how it will be shown, nothing. I think they need to handle it very, very carefully and delicately because Sirius is such a well loved character to just be killed and tossed aside lightly. I didn't really react that well to how they killed Cedric in four, even though I never thought that much of Diggory. They will probably do some kind of slo-mo twist and turn through the vein kind of thing, that's what I think

I'm disappointed at the decision to cut the quidditch. I think it is too vital to just ignore, and I'm still in a bit of disbelief. A huge portion of my hatred of Umbridge was encompassed by her deprivition of one of Harry and the twins' most favorite things, and they really need the audience to hate her a LOT. Weasley is our King is one of my cherished HP moments. Ron needs to shine sometime, and I'm oh-so vexed at the thought of one of my favorite characters not getting their moment.

noo ... i needed weasley is our king. i mean is anything more priceless than tom felton singing ??? the decision to cut the quidditch cup in the third and 6 movie means more plotline out more strange4 stuff in. id rather itd be two movies than see a hp movie without quidditch. still one movie's better than none ...

I am fuming, the producers have cut so much stuff from HPOOTP. There is no Quiditch whatsoever, three characters are cut, and worst of all, this is going to be the shortest HP film yet running at under 2.5 hours. It is supposed to be the other way around, OOTP is there longest book so it should have the longest movie. What is wrong with having a three, even four hour HP movie. I would actually sit through an eight hour Harry Potter movie.

I had been wondering for quite some time whether or not they would cut the detention scene where Harry's hand is being split open. I can finally rest assured. I've just now seen the new HD promotional image of OotP. It's of the detention scene with Umbridge and Harry. There are droplets of blood on Harry's hand in the pic... so I think it's safe in assuming that they did not cut that scene.

I'm with plenty of people when it comes to the length of the movie. I think that this should be the longest of the movies. I think also, that they dont want to have a repeat of Lord of the rings, with a 4 hour movie. But i am very afraid of things being cut and i dont know if Grawp will be cut. I want to see that scene!!! I hope they dont cut him.
