Ok, so i am in a bit of a wierd mood.
I have decided to set some tasks, do however many of them you want!!

For two sherbet lemons
-Dumbledores wand (Still have'nt found this out!!)
-Link to a good avitar/picture etc

For five sherbet lemons
-poems, songs, lymerics etc that you think show Dumbledore (copy and paste lyrics)
-link to a really good Dumbledore site that has pics, a gallery anything really tongue.gif

for ten, yes TEN sherbet lemons
-acrosstic of Dumbledore, or any dumbledore realated word
-An interesting but slightly difficult dumbledore quiz
-link to a really good dumbledore fic, but dont claim credit if its not yours!!!

oh and dont just paste a link...if you are just doing one of those...
answer a question too!!!
Where did dumbledore get fawkes from?
or...
How much of hogwarts has Dumbledore explored?

or...
How much relevance do you think the meanings of dumbledores names has?

um.. here is it in context...
Word: Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore

Albus: white in latin

Percival: "pierce the Veil" in Old French.. coincedence, I dont think so.

Wulfric: refers to the epic of Beowulf, where Beowulf defeats Grendel (similar to Dumbledore defeating Grindelwald)

Brian: comic relief after so many wierd names!

Dumbledore: type of beetle that Tolkien wrote about saying it visits the s}Shire once a year. Also known as Bumblebee... because JKR envisioned Dumbledore humming in the halls of Hogwarts like the buzzing of a bee.

~Albus

(thank you for that Albus Dumbledore!)
so...five sherbet lemons for each question with a good answer!!
I am going to lose count...

Have fun!

Seriouslysirius
Okay i'll get round to answering a doing some of them later. But Clara what you said....

QUOTE
Percival: "pierce the Veil" in Old French.. coincedence, I dont think so.

Peirece the veil speaks for itself. Maybe Dumbledore has the power to desstroy and bring back thosse who were taken by it. But as Dumbledore is dead. sad.gif

Then i don't know who else would have that sort of power.. Maybe Aberforth... Not sure though.

Okay i will do this question.. How much of hogwarts has Dumbledore explored?

Alot i'm assuming but i imagine that he knows there is still alot to learn. In GOF he admitted not knowing everything aout Hogwarts. I imagine that he likes to wander halls and explore but how much of Hogwarts i'm not sure. For even we don't know how big it is....
Dumbledore avatar.
The avatars all right but i don't think it will be hard to find a better one.

-Dumbledores wand (Still have'nt found this out!!)
i can't find a single website with this information... lol

-Link to a good avitar/picture etc
http://www.iconator.com/download.php?IconID=960410 - if you want this picture you will have to download it and then put it onto photobucket or something so you can get a URL for it.
http://www.harrypotterfanzone.com/?ID=downloads/avatars - if you scroll down there are some Dumbledore ones but they are mainly just pictures.
it's hard to find any really good ones.

Where did dumbledore get fawkes from?
i couldn't find this.

How much relevance do you think the meanings of dumbledores names has?
Word: Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore
well i think that J.K perhaps just wanted his name to be meaningful...not just a name picked out of a hat.

Albus: white in latin - this one i see as having the more... meaning. i think it's because white can be seen as hope ... if you get me! tongue.gif

Percival: "pierce the Veil" in Old French.. coincedence, I dont think so. -hmmmm

.....

blink.gif I am so incredibly sorry for losing this thread. I don't know what made me forget about it! Shame on me! I'm still here Clara! Honestly I am!

Anyway, here are some Dumbledore quizzes that I've found and taken. This one I found just a tad bit challenging. I think I got two or three wrong. This one isquick and easy and I got everything right. If you want a real challenge you can take this quiz, which was originally written in German, but my computer translated it as best as it could. If you speak German, it's probably easy, but if not, you're in for a real surprise. Apparently, I only got two wrong, which isn't so bad, considering I didn't understand half the words! happy.gif (A hint: the word 'it' should be 'he' or 'Dumbledore')

QUOTE
How much of hogwarts has Dumbledore explored?

Oh, I assume he has covered most of the grounds. He knows about the Room of Requirement and I think it would be safe to say that he knows about most of the secret passages out of the castle too.

Albus: white in latin - I really like what K.Lupin said about that. White does symbolize hope. And peace too. Which is what he always strived for. I think it is also a sign of eternal life? Could that possible be of significance?

Percival: "pierce the Veil" in Old French.. coincedence, I dont think so. - I guess we'll just have to wait and see, won't we? It could be significant and even possible, with Dumbledore's brains, but we'll just have to sit tight.

Wulfric: refers to the epic of Beowulf, where Beowulf defeats Grendel (similar to Dumbledore defeating Grindelwald)
- I like that. It's very witty.

Brian: comic relief after so many wierd names! - laugh.gif Or could it mean more?

I'm not sure what I think of the meaning of 'Dumbledore' yet. But I'll get back to you, if and when I do.

Avatars I've found are here,
here, here, here and
here

Hope that helps everybody out. smile.gif

Drinotonks
Hello all I embarrassingly haven’t been here since my first post I’ve been so busy! I think I’ve spent about 5hours collectively today catching up.

Ok so on the avatars issue I can’t take credit for this because I got the site off Seriouslysirius but it didn’t work on my computer so I went to the main site, types in Dumbledore in the search bar, but these weren’t very good but underneath it shows what category it came from so I clicked on Harry Potter and the first one that comes up is funny, it says “remember students all Voldemort really needs is a nice big hug” and it has Gambon standing with his arms out. And on pg 12 there’s a great ipod one its hilarious – but not of Dumbledore sorry off topic. – I don’t want points for this I’m just giving more directions.

http://www.avatarist.com/avatars/Movies/Harry-Potter/

K.Lupin I love the white = hope theory from a page back I totally agree and sorry that I can’t think of it but a while ago someone actually told me about a red white and black theory to do with Harry, Hagrid and Sirius, I like drawing conclusions from symbolic references as opposed to objects or events. – thus I think his name has great significance. I don’t believe that many serious authors chose a name just because they like the sound of it, it has to have some meaning whether it be of personal value to the author or when defined a symbolic reference such as this. (and also Lupin’s = wolf)

QUOTE
Percival: "pierce the Veil" in Old French…coincedence, I dont think so.
– exactly no more needs to be said

Hilly thanks heaps for the quizzes but I couldn’t do the first one it didn’t work, but I got 5/5 on the easy one and only 12/15 for the German one because it didn’t translate very well so sometimes I couldn’t understand the question.

In terms of good sites I’m sure everyone’s seen this one but in case you haven’t this was my original therapy when said tragic accident with Dumbledore occurred, there’s no real pictures but some amazing articles:

http://www.beyondhogwarts.com/harry-potter...dumbledore.html

The site was originally called Dumbledore is not dead but it’s since changed, you should read the articles if you haven’t already it had me convinced that he would come back, and it’s still good to dream.

How much of hogwarts has Dumbledore explored?
I think he knows most places, I presume he would know all of the secret passages out of the school ad take pride and if he had a marauders map I can picture him sitting there watching laughing at Fred and George sneaking out, keeping an eye on Harry those sort of things. I also have an image of him using the room of requirement when he went there, I’m not too sure what he would have been doing there but I can picture him just taking some time out there, he may even have done that in his later years.

My attempt- I've added definitions to the words for some younger poeple as some of those words are pretty large...

Admirable - worthy of admiration; inspiring approval, reverence, or affection
Loving – it’s been used but I can’t go past it
Believer - to have confidence in the truth, the existence, or the reliability of something, but I also like backbone - strength of character – he is the backbone of Hogwarts
Uncanny – mysterious, having or seeming to have a supernatural or inexplicable basis
Special – well I think we all know he’s special enough without a definition

Distinguishable – to set apart as different – in his wisdom
Unresolved – not brought to a conclusion; subject to further thought; "an open question," – has Dumbledore’s input finished?
Meticulous – careful about small details
Benevolent – wishing to do good for others not for self profit
Leader - a guiding or directing head
Experienced – having learned through experience; taught by experience (enigmatic was already used so I chose another)
Discerning - showing good or outstanding judgment and understanding
Omnipotent - almighty or infinite in power
Reflective - contemplative, thoughtful
Erudite - characterized by great knowledge; learned or scholarly

That was fun I searched for ages for the right words!

What is dumbledore's prized possesion?
I would think of Fawke’s at first but there is a possibility that he has some small childhood trinket probably of little significance to anyone else but a great place for a horcrux…he did kill that wizard so it is possible though not likely. His office most likely contains the prized possession but to the average person it simply bends in with the rest of the trinkets.

Ok I think I’ve been on this topic for over 2hrs now.

every one help me! lol just kidding! will do my best Clara!

What is dumbledore's prized possesion?
well we don't really know a lot of his possesions....do we?? i liked what Drinotonks said about the possibility of it being Fawkes... i would think that that was highly likely. fawkes is very loyal to Dumbledore.... and only loyalty to Dumbledore would call fawkes to someone else... like Harry in the Chamber of Secrets. to answer this question i gues we would have to understand more about the trinkets he possess!

Has Dumbledore ever been tempted by the dark arts?
well Dumbledore (no matter how great he is) is still... human, in my opinion. we are all different yes but i still that maybe at some point in his life Dumbledore would have been tried and tesed and perhaps thought of Dark Arts. we all make mistakes, we are all prone to bad days, we all have certain things happen in our life that others do not understand. i think that at some point something could have happened to him as a result of acting for good. say his parents were in a certain order and were trying to fight the evil wizards of the age and were then killed by another force... a freak accident or something - then Dumbledore would proably feel jealous of the dark side. they go round getting everything they want and get away with it... nothing really happens to them. well sorry this sounds rather... far featched but i can't word what i am trying to say ... properly! nah! oh well! laugh.gif

thanks Drinotonks! laugh.gif biggrin.gif i totally agree with you!! i think that in a lot of cases names aren't just picked out of a hat... they have to mean something...
here's one of my examples... Scarlett (it's the last name of a few characters of mine) i didn't just want it to be a name, i wanted it to mean something and it does. Scarlett is a red colour... blood i was thinking off. Scarlett has the word "Scar" in it and symbolises how the family have sort of been emotionally and phyiscally scarred... i loved it!!

Just a quick note to say- Drinotonks, You're getting sherbet lemons whether you like it or not!!
tell you what... you can have fifteen for the whole post, seen as you have avitars, sites and an acrosstic!!! i know you're not taking credit, but you made the effort, an dthe explainations as well!! Oh, you're not even on the members list!! How did i forget you sad.gif sad.gif sorry... you're going on there now...

Right...I'll do the other question when i get back, but this one...

What is dumbledore's prized possesion?
Yes... I agree that we don't know much about his possessions, i really doubt that he is the materialistic type. I agree with what you said about fawkes and i have my own views on that. *sigh* in fact, since nobody else seems to want to talk about this...i'll say 'em now!!

The origin of fawkes
well, i suppose this is less of an origin answer, and more of a time answer. Fawkes must have come from the egg of another phoenix (or however the babies are born,) or, he must have been the first phoenix. Legend is not clear on the origin of the first phoenix, some say that it is the most beautiful part of every bird, some, a cross between two, or more still believe that it was created by a diety. I believe that it is a being of pure magic, and that it is why it does not die, because magic never dies, just the body and the mind - the vessle for the magic. Some legends say that the phoenix was unique, on of a kind, and most that the cycle of life is at least 500 years. This site explains really well
Fawkes seems to have a life cycle of less than that, and i think that he is also not one of a kind. that in hp phoenix are very rare, but not unique.
Fawkes, seem toi be a very special phoenix. I dont doubt that all phoenix are that magical, but fawkes seems to have a very strong tie with the school, which leads me to believe that he was at the school for a very long time, maybe since it was created. I know he left when Dumbledore died, but i think that Dumbledore may have been the last chance that the school had, and fawkes felt that, so when Dumbledore died, fawkes had some sort of broken bond.
Also, fawkes is red, i know traditionally they are, but red=Griffindor, and fawkes came because harry was loyal to dumbledore, as harry pulled the sword out of the hat.
I have a theory that... Fawkes belonged to Godric Griffindor. I think that he was at the school, but when the founders parted, fawkes left to watch the school from the distance, a kind of protector, or guardian. I think that Godric treated him really well, not like a pet, but respected him for what he was. When Dumbledore came to be headmaster, Fawkes saw that Dumbledore was worthy of Fawkes' company, as such, and fawkes went back to the school. Like Fawkes and Godric, the two were close, as close as a man and something as magical as Fawkes could be... when Dumbledore died, fawkes left again, to watch over the school until it had a 'worthy' leader again. It might be a headteacher, but maybe a different kind of leader, like harry... a leader in a battle, and fawkes could help.
I know this all seems a bit far fetched, but if you really think about it, it could be true.
See- this is why i thought a discussion would be good!

anyway... back to his prized possesion. After all of that explaination... i don't think that Fawkes is his prized possession, because i don't see fawkes as a possession.
So... I think a prized possssion may be some thing else. Something that would blend in, but on closer inspection, is more wonderful than anything else- not always visually. it would be something of magic, that was either made from magic, held magic, or symbolised the foundation of magic. Something that held memories for Dumbledore, and every other great wizard in any time. Something powerful, but not dangerous, something that dumbledore did not have to look after, something that wouldn't hurt anybody, but still had power...i dont know.. i'm not sure...

the dark arts question s=could take a long time... so i wont go into that this week!

I better catch up. . .

"Do you think that time affects Dumbledore differently from everybody else, not just in body, but in his mind as well?
No I have to say I don’t think time affects Dumbledore differently but I do believe that time and age has made him wise, perhaps because he has seen so much.

"Do you think that Dumbledore is an ambitious person?"
I think Dumbledore is quite an ambitious person as he certainly seems to be very determined and ambitious to vanquish the Dark Lord. He was certainly determined to help Harry with the Horcuxes.

I can’t find out what Dumbledore wand is.

I found this Dumbledore avatar and this is the the link:

Where did dumbledore get fawkes from?
I agree with Clara that Fawkes belonged to Godric Griffindor that is a brilliant idea. After all the Sorting Hat and the sword both belonged to Godric Griffindor and are both now (well was) in Dumbledore’s possession so it would make sense that Fawkes was Godric’s and is now in Dumbledore’s possession too.

How much of Hogwarts has Dumbledore explored?
I think Dumbledore has explored all if not most of Hogwarts because he has been there for some time. In about 1851 he began Hogwarts as a student there so he most likely would have looked around, then by 1938 he became a Transfiguration teacher at Hogwarts and then afterwards (around about 1955 until his death) he was Hogwarts headmaster so therefore he most have explored pretty much ALL of Hogwarts and as headmaster he might know all the secrets within the walls.

How much relevance do you think the meanings of dumbledores names has?
A lot, here is what I found on the internet. . .sorry if it has been said. . .
QUOTE
"Dumbledore", which is an old Devonshire word for "bumblebee", was picked by the author because she imagines him wandering around the castle, humming to himself. Additionally, Dumbledore is the common name for Geotrupes stercorarius (also known as the Dor Beetle, Clock or Lousy Watchman) an insect which visits the Shire each year, as mentioned in the poem "Errantry" by J. R. R. Tolkien (published in The Tolkien Reader).
The name Albus is the Latin word for ("white"), a frequently used symbol for good.
The name Wulfric meaning "wolf-power", is reminiscent of the legendary hero Beowulf ("powerful bear-wolf"), who in his early years slew the monster Grendel (a name oddly reminiscent of Grindelwald, a Dark Wizard whom Dumbledore defeated).[4]
The meaning of Brian is not known for certain but it is possibly related to the Old Celtic element "bre" meaning "hill", or by extension "high, noble". The name is more likely used just as a comical contrast to his other, more unusual names.
Percival is a name from old French, meaning 'pierce the veil'.[5] It was the name of one of King Arthur's knights, the only one who was sufficiently pure to retrieve the Holy Grail. The oldest recorded version of the story of Perceval is by Chrétien de Troyes from the 12th century. In Le Morte d'Arthur by Thomas Malory, Perceval is both hero and narrator of the tale, as is the case for Dumbledore in parts of the Harry Potter books.[6]

Oh no!! Jade your in charge!! ohmy.gif laugh.gif biggrin.gif Just joking my dear twin sister, your be fine biggrin.gif tongue.gif

Right I'm going to answer the other questions now like I said I would:

What is dumbledore's prized possesion?
Tricky, it could well be Fawkes or his pensieve but he does have a lot of interesting possesions. I think, if Clara's is right about Fawekes once being Godric's then perhaps Fawkes and anything else (like the sorting hat and the sword) are his prized possenions because they once belong to Godric himself. Then again his prize possesion could be his pensieve because it allows him to store usful memories or things he would rather forget. Also it is likely that his prized possesion isn't an object, it could simply be Harry or his health, his life something as simple as that.

Has Dumbledore ever been tempted by the dark arts?
I personally think every wicth and wizard in one time of their life has/will be tempted by the Dark Arts even if the tempation only lasted for a few seconds. However because the Dark Arts is such a 'grey area' can we really be totally sure of what is classed as Dark Arts of Dark Magic--'anything evil' is probaly what answer jumps to your mind. But what is evil to me may be differnt then to what is evil to some else. To someone evil could be bulling, so in this case Draco, Harry, Ron and Hermione (along with others) are all in the frame for 'Dark Arts/ Dark Magic. But to others murder is evil so then thown into the picture is the Dark Lord, Snape AND Dumbledore. . .yes Dumbledore. . .take a look at what his chocolate frog card says:

Considered by many the greatest wizard of modern times, Dumbledore is particularly famous for his defeat of the dark wizard Grindelwald in 1945, for the discovery of the twelve uses of dragon's blood, and his work on alchemy with his partner, Nicolas Flamel. Professor Dumbledore enjoys chamber music and tenpin bowling.

Right so Dumbledore defeated the Dark Wizard Grindelwld. . . but how? Did Dumbledore once use the Dark Arts, Dark Magic to defeat Grindlewld? For all we know Dumbledore could of used an Unforgivealbe Curse, the same Unforgiveable Curse used by the Dark Lord. . .Avada Kedavra
Anything is possiable, we don't know our a dear Dumbledore inside-out and the truth is we never will, one more book is not enough to discover everyhing unknown to us about Dumbledore. . .
K.Lupin_werewolf

continue origin of fawkes
Clara wishes for me to encourage people to share their views on this one. Clara's idea about Fawkes once belonging to Godric Griffindor... who agrees? or do we think that Fawkes was a family "pet" or was given as a gift? what do you guys think?

also don't forget...

Oh thanks Clara.. I'm sorry i haven't been able to help out this thread. I was banned from the computer.. sad.gif Can everyone explain to me what i have to do??

Well i will answer some questions.

Has Dumbledore ever been tempted by the dark arts?

I believe that he has been tempted by the dark arts. Just like Gandalf in LOTR'S. Everyone has the days when they hate everything and hate can lead to alot of things. Just because Dumbledore is wise. Doesn't make him immune. I believe he has been tempted fairly often..

Sorry when i get back into the flow i will help out more.

Okay keep the thread alive ok. Then here goes..

Question time..

If these are similair to any other question tell me because remember i haven't been here in a while.

What pet do you think Dumbledore had when he was at school?

I don't think it says in the book, but do you think Dumbledore may have had a special services to the school award?

Finally...

In a duel to the dath and Voldermort has no Horcruxes who do you think would win, Dumbledore or Voldermort.

Where is everyone?? unsure.gif It just seems that me, K.Lupin_werwolf and Seriouslysirius are the only ones posting. . .I miss everyone sad.gif Oh more questions. . . smile.gif

What pet do you think Dumbledore had when he was at school?
Well a good question my dear cousin biggrin.gif Erm. . . well his pet (if he had one) could of only been a cat, rat, owl or toad because that is all Hogwarts allow however maybe the rules were differnt in Dumbledore's days in Hogwarts. So maybe phoinexes were allowed so he had fawkes. But out of the pets allowed I can see Dumbledore with owl like Harry's owl. A white owl because Albus means white in Latin which means pure/ good so a white owl would repesent Dumbledore.

Do you think Dumbledore may have had a special services to the school award?
I don't get this question, sorry Dan. Could you explain when you are next online and on this thread.

In a duel to the death and Voldermort has no Horcruxes who do you think would win, Dumbledore or Voldermort.
Trufully. . .I think the Dark Lord would win, I'll explain my reasons:
Firstly Dumbledore is dead laugh.gif So a battle is out of the question
But no really this is why I think the Dark Lord would win. . .
If you read the Half-Blood Prince, you will notice how Dumbledore is weaking. He even, forgive me for saying, appears ill and I mean deadly ill. Maybe he asked Snape to kill he to save himself from the suffering of the illness or to save himself from dying by the Dark Lord's wand because he was too weak to fight the Dark Lord in a to the death duel. Dumbledore would rather die by the hand of a friend? Well its possable, anything is. . .

What pet do you think Dumbledore had when he was at school?
erm well i like the idea of him having a white coloured pet... such as an owl. but i just don't think he had a pet. call it gut instinct if you like but i think that he did not have a pet but say if he did it was fawkes. i think.

QUOTE
Do you think Dumbledore may have had a special services to the school award?

erm by this i asume you mean: do think that Dumbledore recieved any awards for special services to the school?? well if this is the question i am going to say....most likely. Dumbledore appears to be wise and powerful so it is possible that he helped the school in some way. god i don;t know why i am saying little today!

QUOTE

well i agree with this...
QUOTE
Firstly Dumbledore is dead So a battle is out of the question

well it is true after all.
I think that if a battle took place when Dumbledore was prehaps a little younger then he might have won but say if he was alive now... i have a feeling that it would be quite a close battle. i think they are quite evenly matched. Voldermort is a dark wizard .. yes but as Ollivander said "He did great thing" and then we have Dumbledore; wise and powerful and not someone who you should underestimate as we don't know much about him. i think that a fight would be fairly equal and who would win would depend on the situation. but then again... oh no idea!
Hilly
I'm here, I'm here!! I promise!! rolleyes.gif

What pet do you think Dumbledore had when he was at school?
When I first read this question, I automatically thought of Hedwig and Fawkes, but no, you guys just had to beat me to it! tongue.gif So my answer stands - He had a white owl that resembled Hedwig.

Do you think Dumbledore may have had a special services to the school award?
Oh, certainly. I think it would just be out of the question to think that Dumbledore never did anything good for his school! I mean, he liked it so much he decided to become Headmaster, so he must have done something good as a student. But what that service is, I'm not quite sure. I could see him doing something to help out the teachers though. I always thought he would be one of the top students in his grade, if not number one.

This question got me wondering about Dumbledore's school days... Do you think he ever played Quidditch? Hehe that would kind of be a funny image now, but when he was younger do you think he played?

In a duel to the death and Voldermort has no Horcruxes who do you think would win, Dumbledore or Voldermort.
Well... Assuming you mean when Dumbledore was still alive, I really want to say Dumbledore. He is far more cunning and knowledgeable than Voldemort, but I'm afraid his age is totally against him. As he said, his reflexes aren't what they used to be. If they had this battle when Dumbledore was a few years younger, however, It would be Dumbledore hands down. But Voldemort has a slight advantage over Dumbledore because of his age. Then again, Dumbledore has a slight advantage over Voldemort because of his wits... Arg, I'm not sure who to pick! But just for the sake of this question, I'm going to go with dear old Dumbledore! happy.gif
Lily Evans
What pet do you think Dumbledore had at school?

I think the Hedwig/Fawkes idea is a good one, but you already said it, so I think he might have had a more exotic animal, like a Demiguise (see Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them) or a Kneazle (see Fantastic Beasts and where to find them again).

Do you think Dumbledore may have had a Special Award for Services to the School?

I agree with Hilly that he definitely did, but I can't figure out what he did it for either. Maybe he rescued the Headmaster from the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets or something...
I think he might have played Quidditch. I mean, even now he's very physically fit for a 150-year-old, and when he was younger he was probably very active. I wonder what position he was on...

In a duel to the death and Voldermort has no Horcruxes who do you think would win, Dumbledore or Voldermort?

I think it would depend on whether Dumbledore had to protect anyone and how many Death Eaters Voldy had, but if it was one-on-one, I think Dumbledore would win.

Why did Dumbledore trust Snape (this is in other forums as well, so keep 'em short...)

Generally because i believe that they hatched a plan together.. Meaning that Snape is good really. Thats why i think that he trusted Snape because they where really fooling everyone.

Well heres a question...

If Snape had not stopped the curse of Marvalo's ring spreading do you think Dumbledore would have died sooner. Or lasted enough for help. How strong do you think his ressiliance is?
Hilly
I have no idea whatsoever about the possibilities of Dumbledoe's wand core... blink.gif

QUOTE

Definitely he would have died sooner. Just imagining his hand sends chills down my spine. It always reminds me of a severely burnt person. I'm not sure who else could have possibly cured him though, maybe Slughorn or Dumbledore himself if he could get the strength? I think Dumbledore's endurance is extremely high, he would've lasted longer than many of the other characters in the book, that man just didn't want to die...
Sabrina_Rose_Snape
If Snape had not stopped the curse of Marvalo's ring spreading do you think Dumbledore would have died sooner. Or lasted enough for help. How strong do you think his ressiliance is?
I think he may have lived just that little longer to perhaps get help if help was even possible, maybe there was no cure or no help of the curse of Marvalo's ring. Maybe that is the reason why Dumbledore ask Snape to kill him because he was really suffering from the curse of the ring. Maybe Snape was told to kill Dumbledore to end his suffering and when Snape killed Dumbledore he looked angry maybe it was anger because of what Dumbledore was asking him to do.
Seriouslysirius
Both Hilly and Sabrina_Rose_Snape great answers.

When Harry asked about Dumbledores hand Dumbledore only replied like it was a throw away coment. I think Dumbledore was scared really. And wanted Snape to kill him but it was all apart of there scheme.

Edit: Right question..

Dumbledore's Put Outer, where do you think he got it from?? Or does it say in book, i'm not sure but if not where and who do you think he got it from??
K.Lupin_werewolf
Why did Dumbledore trust Snape (this is in other forums as well, so keep 'em short...)
well i think he sort-of pitted him maybe. i don't know. i can not explain it. i think Dumbledore feels sorry for him.... excepts the fact that Snape made mistakes in the past and who knows, prehaps Dumbledore can put himself in his shoes. i think that there is a layer behind this that delves into Dumbledore's past. perhaps after all he understands how the dark side can draw someone in.

If Snape had not stopped the curse of Marvalo's ring spreading do you think Dumbledore would have died sooner. Or lasted enough for help. How strong do you think his ressiliance is?
huh what i didn't quite get that?? re-word it please! i don't know... maybe i am just tired.

Dumbledore's Put Outer, where do you think he got it from?? Or does it say in book, i'm not sure but if not where and who do you think he got it from??
i reackon that it was something he aqqiured through travels or by helping some one. a gift. i think it is proably one of those items that he has aqqiured over years. And i am not sure if it does say so in the book.

i have gave away sherbet lemons.

Yes i do agree with you both something aqqqquired on his travels. Prehaps Mad Eye Moody gave it to him . As he has all the invisibility cloaks and that.

Another question..

Dumbledore hired all these Defence Aganist The Dark Art teachers. Do you think he did it for a reason knowing that it was jinxed??

Meaning that he planned to get rid of Qurriel and put Snape in the job because of the plan they where hatching
K.Lupin_werewolf
QUOTE

well erm slightly hard to explain what i mean lol well i think that Dumbledore didn't plan it at all. i think it was ... hey do you want a job, here's a job, do you want it? lol i don't know. he knew of the curse but he didn't want that to affect his choices so he just treated the job as a job not as a cursed job that would last just a year. *shruggs shoulders* no idea.

Question -

Seriouslysirius
what were Dumbledore's parents like?? (as parents, and as wizards...)

Now that is a ard question it really depends on how you look at Dumbledore it could be either two things. laugh.gif

They where really nice to him that is why he is so nice and helpful. They probably liked kids to as does Dumbledore.

or...

They where really horrible and Dumbledore is determined not to be like to be the complete opposite to them.

Question ~ Dumbledore do you think he is similair to Gandalf from LOTR'S.

I guess we can't know at all for sure - like Seriouslysirius said ...

QUOTE

i mostly think that...
that they were okay parents. i mean in the time that this was set ... if you think about it when Dumbledore was a kid it was what? 1800s or something. Perhaps his father was very much the "son's to carry on the name type". at that point in time (for muggles anyways) it was work, religion and status. however we don't know what it was really like for wizards. if his dad was anything like a dad back then, then he would be wanting the best for his son so he could make the family look "good".
anyways... i think they were okay parents due to the time. i think they were really good wizards and perhaps Dumbledore wanted to live up to them.

Dumbledore do you think he is similair to Gandalf from LOTR'S.
similair yes, in sense that they are both the wise and guidence type characters. they are both old, wise, powerful and there for you. also they both died.. at one point in Gandalf's case.
Seriouslysirius

Well Gandalf did sort of die probably when he went to the Grey Havens anyway..

Yes i agree they are both figures of wise and powerfulness. They are the hero's teachers if you want. Which aslo makes Dumbledore and Gandalf heros.

Has anyone got any questions??

Padfoots Companion
1.What are your favourite characteristics or Albus?, Why do you like him?

I love the fact that he is who he is and doesn't feel the need to please anyone. He makes everyone feel welcome no matter who your family are or what you are. I like the 'original' DD better, I believe his name is Richard something.. but Micheal Gameon (spelling most likely off) is growing on me.

2.Dumbledore's future, i know this is a hard one, because it i such a big topic, and it is taking place in loads of forums, but if we keep it strictly to him...
What will Dumbledores place be in Deathly Hallows?

I believe that DD (as well as hp's parents and sirius) will come back in some way and help; I am not sure how but it's just that feeling. DD has neve really truelly let Harry do something on his own.

3.Albus and Aberforth, they are brothers, but what is the relationship like between the two?

Like any other siblings relationship - they had their differences, but yet they always agreed in the end on how something should go...

Ooh, I have a question that has been bugging me for ages.

QUOTE
Dumbledore was born sometime in 1845 making him 157 at the time of his death

I took this from a thread about DDs age (this was from Toms post). If, as it appears, DD was a very old man when he died, what do you think the secret of his longevity was?

Do you think that he was exposed to the Elixir of Life courtesy of his friend Nicholas Flamel? Or was he just very good at taking his vitamins and leading a healthy lifestyle?

Do all wizards live to be a great age, assumimg that they do not get zapped by the AK curse? Or was DD the exception to the rule?

I am interested on everyone elses take on this. I will read your replies with interest before giving mine!!

I so agree with the fact that he had some exposure to the Elixir of Life. I don't know of anyone (wizard or not) living to be that old. Oh the things he saw - both good and bad, all the changes in the world - how cool would that be unsure.gif

As for all wizards living to be a great age, I don't know - I mean I am sure they live longer than your average Muggle, but I can't see it going for almost 70 years longer... who knows.
HP_ATrueClassic
what were Dumbledore's parents like?? (as parents, and as wizards...)

i'd like to go back to this topic if you all don't mind. i think DD had great parents. sure he learned a lot along the way but he does not seem to be the type to be influenced by other people easily leaving his parents to raise him with different values. one of them for example is the respect he has for people and his overly polite nature towards everybody that most people seem to respond to. i think things like that had to be learned from his parents as a value one would grow up with. he's a memorable character and i think his parents had to have had something to do with it. but its true that we will never know about his parents and it is also true that they could have been terrible and he could have wanted to be the exact opposite of them or even that he was just affected by what was around him such as different scenarios and his early influences that developed his character to what it is now. either seriouslysirius is on the right track or K.Lupin_werewolf but i dont think well ever know for sure.

More questions to answer. . . biggrin.gif

Dumbledore hired all these Defence Aganist The Dark Art teachers. Do you think he did it for a reason knowing that it was jinxed??
I think Dumbledore doesn't do anything by sudden impulses, I do beleive Dumbledore all through his life thinks a lot before he acts. So, yes I do think Dumbledore had his reasons although, personally, I can't think of what they might be.

what were Dumbledore's parents like?? (as parents, and as wizards...)
Well his parents could be either of these below:
1) They were supportive of their son and loving.
2) They were mean parents and ingored him and then Dumbledore did everything in his power to be the opposite of them.

Dumbledore do you think he is similair to Gandalf from LOTR'S.
In ways Dumbledore is similair to Gandalf. Both old and wise. They both look out for a young male (Dumbledore looks out for Harry, Gandalf looks out for Frodo).

DADA answer: I think DD hired the teacher that he felt would be of most use to the Trio for that year. I think DD had/has some Seer in him and he could see into the future a ways... (just a theory I know). But think back, in CoS, he hired Lockhart - even if he was worthless he helped out Harry and Ron in the end I guess...; in PoA - Lupin was one of the Marauders, and who better to help Harry learn the secrets of his parent's past...; in GoF - his intentions were good in hiring Moody (I think that DD knew the LV was coming back to power and needed Harry) - so Moody was there to keep an 'eye' on things - too bad he turned out to be Crouch; and then in OOTP - the ministry assigned that oaf of a toad Umbridge so he had no choice there; in HBP - he gave Snape the position - maybe that had something to do with the theory of the two of them having an agreement where Snape was to kill DD if he had no choice.

Which brings a question that is wayyyyyyy offtopic.gif i just had a thought while typing the post to this - could the ghosts help the Order? I mean I know they are ghost - but you can only die once... well didn't Nick say once that you have to plan ahead to hang around after your departing - well maybe that is how DD is going to help Harry in DH - he had planned ahead and will be coming back as a ghost like all of the Hogwarts ghosts... Just a theory/question.

Parents answer: I think DD's parents were like anybody's parents. Wanting him to be the best he can be and go as far as he wants to in life... I know that I wish that for my son - so why wouldn't they wish that for DD? On the issue of him possibly being parseltongue - maybe it skipped a generation or so... ok that was off topic, but it came to mind.

Similar to Gandalf answer: I am not into LOTR yet.... I have the trilogy sitting on my bookshelf waiting for me to read it - but I refuse to start something else till I am done reading DH. I have tried watching LOTR, and I just can't - I feel like I am cheating on JKR or Harry... so my answer to this one is I just don't know.
