I know it's a long shot...but I was just wondering if anyone here have played Myst before... It's a reality virtual tour like computer game...

There are 3 series so far, Myst, Riven:Sequel to Myst and Myst III Exile...but I heard the fourth one is coming! I think it's called Uru something... (or it's already out, dunno...haven't play it in a long time...(busy) dry.gif )

Anywayy...I thought I'd share the experience with you if you've played them before (cause it's really awesome!!)...So, ermm...anyone?

*waiting anxiously*

Hmm, I haven't played it but my friend is really into it. It looks neat from what I've seen but I haven't seen very much. What is it like?

Ooohh...I'm beginning to wonder if anyone ever replied... great! cool.gif

Well, this is a game I've played while writing my thesis on 'virtual tour'. Since this game is a 'virtual tour', I turn it into my case study...thus, I've to play!! (the best case study I've undergone ever!! tongue.gif )

In this game, you're a third person, walking around in a 3D world, looking for clues and solving puzzles (I suppose if you're a riddle-head, this is a perfect game for you! wink.gif ) ...some of it is hard to solve, some's not...it's all about a story. A man, Atrus, who has a power to link to other places (called an 'Age') by writing the description down in a book, (more like a skill or a gift from his ancestors and he's the last one left that's still alive). When this book is finished, the person who touched it will be able to be 'transport' to this Ages. But, this man has two evil sons who had went to all the Ages, dominate and eventually destroy them. Atrus weren't aware of this at first, but it was too late. But he had invented a trapbook, where whoever touch it would be trapped in a world of nothingness forever.

So, when you entered this game, you walked around, looking for clues Atrus leave behind and eventually sees two books where his sons are trapped. Both will ask you to find the blue/red pages all over the Ages and claiming the other brother is the evil one. As your adventure deepens, you'll get to know these brothers better. And in the end... tongue.gif , I don't want to spoil the end for you...try playing them! It's fun!!

You get to walk and turn around whereever and whenever you like, explore the realistic 3D world...a bit like looking for 'easter eggs' in JKR website only more complex and you're very unlikely can get killed. (I suppose if you're looking for an action-pack game, this is not for you... dry.gif )

Anyway, try it! It's fun!! (I've said that, didn't I? rolleyes.gif )
And if you need any spoiler, I'm always here... tongue.gif smile.gif

hmm sounds fun. I'll have to try it some time....

Ah, Myst.....I tried it once. Nah. Lol- I dunno, I like to solve puzzles in books and all (wink wink Harry Potter!), but Myst really creeped me out the first time I saw it and I haven't played since. My dad and sister are really into it, though. We have Uru (that's the fourth one you were talking about). It's really cute. I've made a character already. See, at the beginning you can choose their hair, face, clothes and such. Then you go into the game and that's where I stopped because I didn't really get it and it became....well, like Myst for me. lol. It's fun though if you like Myst. It's about some ancient civilization called the D'ni who could link books to unlimited ages but who died out over 250 years ago. Extremely interesting......

I was interested in the way they create the game you know...how you get to walk around the game unnoticed, undisturbed, without any threat from any enemies and the idea that you can't get killed...it's something I appreciated since I was creating something like that for my thesis...

And yeah, the puzzles!! I use to jump with joy everytime I solved one!

But ahh...it's been sometime since I played it...too much work!

Ooohh...that's sound's nice, orangephoenix!! I haven't bought that one yet....emm...so much things to buy! HP DVD set, HP audio CDs, HP merchandise tongue.gif laugh.gif ...I wonder when would I get the money to buy other things!! tongue.gif
orangephoenix
Haha yeah.... *runs off to buy as much HP stuff as she can* *gets to cash register* *opens wallet* *sees nothing but air* *curses* *returns HP stuff* *cries* *walks slowly back to Veritaserum, head bowed*.....
I'm not very good at all that computer game stuff though. I just can't get into it. Except for Solitaire. Solitaire rocks biggrin.gif wink.gif .
zyra123
LOL, orangephoenix!! Aww...man. Obsession can be expensive sometimes eh?

Oh, yeah...I like solitaire too! A bit addictive that game was you could say... wink.gif

Anyway, I'm not good at computer games either. My sister was more into it than me. In fact Myst has been the ONLY computer game I've ever indulge at...and I've been hooked ever since (although I was always relying on walkthrough spoiler! tongue.gif). Up to Myst III... and I can't wait till I could get my hand on Uru!
orangephoenix
*Sniffs*.....oh well. I'm over it laugh.gif I'll get cash for Christmas from my friends anyway biggrin.gif biggrin.gif we always do that kind of stuff and then we'll go shopping the weekend after.

Attention, attention: I have finally gotten my lowest Solitaire time to be.....116 seconds! Must worketh on that a little lol.

So....how long does it take to complete one of those games? I can't say since I never have dry.gif ...Ooh! Except for one! I got halfway (then my sister took over the computer dry.gif ) but anyway, it was called, eh, lemme see.....Star something....one of those scifi games, but hilarious....hmmm *trots off to check name of game*

So....how long does it take to complete one of those games?

Well, that's really depends on your ability to solve puzzles (in this case, Myst). This game is one of those virtual reality games. There is no 'game over' (one perhaps, which is at the very end of the game), no character dies and no time constraint. Just you and the world with you having to solve all puzzles before carrying on to the next part.

It took me long enough (I won't tell how long! tongue.gif) to solve Myst. And I had a lot of help from walkthrough spoilers! tongue.gif (cause I almost giving up wandering around aimlessly without a clue of what to do!! But I only sneak at it occasionally , eg. when I'm stuck)

I'm not sure about that game you're mentioning though. Like I said, Myst trilogy are the only computer games I've played!! tongue.gif
orangephoenix
Lol zyra123....so this makes my chances of ever completing one of those games.....zero? Yeah, that sounds about right, although I'm pretty sure it can go into the negatives if I try wink.gif . I remembered the game that I half-finished! It's called Starship Titanic and it's still hilarious laugh.gif . It's fun 'cause it's not too serious or long.
Hmmmm.....I remember there being something like boiling lava or a crack from an earthquake in Uru, though. That's how one of my friends 'died' and had to start over. Poor them.... sad.gif ....they got over it pretty fact though biggrin.gif .
Uru's fun, as far as I've gotten wink.gif ....which isn't very far by the way laugh.gif dry.gif . I only got to running in circles after creating my character. It's a lot of fun, surprisingly! tongue.gif I tried it today at school too, though, but it wasn't that fun sad.gif I probably ran into a wall or something, I can't really remember heehee.
Attention, attention! I have not played Solitaire today! *cries* *trots off to play Solitaire* Ciao everyone!
zyra123
Oh, no worries, orangephoenix! There are loads of walkthrough spoilers in the Internet to help you though the puzzles. But of course, if you solves it yourself, the sense of achievement is totally worth it!!

Oh, but in the way you explain Uru makes me furious in anticipation inside to purchase and play it myself! It sounds like a lot of fun! Create your own character eh? Oooh...now, that's new! So, this new format allows you to 'die' eh? Ehm...cool. But this could makes me like the Myst Trilogy better... but, I haven't tried Uru yet, so until then...I'll put my judgment aside...

You play it at school? Really? How come? Did you play the online version or them game makers don't sell it in software version anymore? Uuh...I haven't been keeping up to this Uru things, by the looks of it! unsure.gif

Oh, btw....feel free to call me zyra, okay! smile.gif
