Well i have a lot favourite movies
I divise them in categories :
Drama:
Pearl Harbor
Comedy:
Meet the Fockers
Fantasy:
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Action:
Pirates of the Caraibean ... and others
History/War:
Troy
If I had to choose one particularly movie then I would chose Pearl Harbor, it was an awesome film.
Another reason is perhaps that for me drama movies are the better ones

I know I've posted here already. But I just want to add these two. First is
Bruce Almighty. I really love the story. If you'll think about it, we really pray to God with those things. And to think, God is really listening to us. It's has a serious side but I like the comedy effect of the movie. Jim Carey(?) rules!
And next is
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I really love Johnny Depp.

Other's high on my list: "Serenity," "The Princess Bride," "Star Wars Episode V," "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Empire of the Sun," "Equilibrium," and various others. . .

For those of you interested in seeing older films, a must see is "Last of the Mohicans" and "Hair". Two of the best films ever made! The soundtracks are phenomenal and the acting is brilliant.
If you're young you may want to ask for your folks permission to see Hair though, the content is pretty extreme, keep an open mind, this movie is a classic.

Pirates of the Caribbean....

I am overly obsessed with that movie...I got so bored one summer, I sat down, went through the movie and typed the script. Yes, I have no life.
Johnny Depp is awesome.
I also like the Sound of Music. I don't really know why, but I love it so much. And geez, those Harry Potter movies?? What a waste of time!! Yeah, I'm kidding on that. Probably watched Prisoner of Azkaban over 50 times another summer because it had just come on cable...Titanic is pretty awesome. I like Disney movies, particularly Lion King and Aladdin. Yeah, I'm 15 and I still watch the old Disney movies, what can I say? A Knight's Tale is a good one. Like Heath Ledger as well.
Kay, I'm all done here....

The Lord Of the Ring's triolgy never gets old so those are by far fave. I love Grease it is so good hehe.
The Tenth Kingdom is LONG but it was so entertaining haha the acting wasn't the best and it was really cheesy but I loved it.
The little Mermaid
King Arthur, this movie was awesome, the way they portrayed Gweniverve (sp haha im so off) was so cool unrealistic, yes, but cool none the less.
Loved the 13th Warrior it was so good.
Under the Tuscan sun, never gets old and the shots are beautiful.
The Holdy Grail, monty python CRACKS me up I adore this movie.
Constantine was wicked. The story was just incredible and the effects were amazing and Keauno is so hot.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the best of them all. I lurrv it.
The Bourne Identity, and Supremacy.
Good Will Hunting is just the greatest movie on the planet.
The emporer's new groove
The rocky Horrror picture show, me and my gals always yell the lines and dance hehe.

The Philadelphia Story
Anything Kathrine Hepburn really
Miss. Congeniality. not the second one the first one was just so funny haha.
Oh yes and Proof, it was weird but I just loved it. Me and my dad have a realationship like that and it just was soo good to me.

I love a really wide variety of films, which really excites me. I find that I can't watch one of those slapstick comedies like the "Scary movie" series over and over and over again, but every once in a while I think they are the funniest thing ever invented.
Anyways these are the movies that I watch when I'm feeling:
Serious - Hotel Rwanda
Bored - Rent
Useless - Lord of the Rings
Happy - Saved!
Thoughtful - Amelie
Romantic - Titanic (yes, TITANIC)
I mean, I don't just sort movies by what mood I'm in when I watch them, but every type of movie does bring out a different personality trait in me. I mean, when I watch Lord of the Rings I think, anyone can make a difference. When I watch Hotel Rwanda I think about how sometimes upsetting our world is.
I guess though, if I had to pick my favourite movie, genre and director it would go like this:
Saved!
Comedy
Peter Jackson
Essence of Division

Hi everyone!
Here is my list! and there is no specific order...
La Haine - French (I know Vincent Cassel because of this movie. Great work putting minds in deep thinking about society)
Batman - (So dark! amazing cat woman! very psychological)
12 Monkeys - (I love la jete so you could imagine... The story line works really well and the main plot it´s perfect)
The nightmare before Christmas - (deep feelings, excellent reflection and a lot of dark fun)
Big Fish - (Great story... great script... an awesome travel to find yourself)
Amelie - French (No words. It´s too perfect. The music was marvelous, also)
Blue velvet - (Bizarre movie made the year I was born talking about all what lies behind the "perfect life")
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - (For me the darkest of the four movies released by now, great scenary and good script)
Read my lips - French (the development of a relationship from a lot of unexpected circumstances)
Run Lola, run - (Adrenaline ... the importance of the decisions you make... anything at any moment can change your life)
A pure Formality - (police plot that reflects on the line between life and death)
El ángel exterminador - (A film who drives you mad! You fell all the tension you understand how every feeling grows up between characters)
A perfect world - (beautiful and depressive just as life itself)
And others that won´t come to my mind right now...

My all time favourite movies are:
1-The Little Princess (It was directed by Alfonso Cuarón, It's pretty cool and it makes me cry everytime, it's a movie everyone everywhere should see)
2-Kill Bill Vol. 1 &2 (These movies are superb, excellent, the coolest ever, there are no words to describe it i really really like them)
3- The Return of The King (This movie made me cry, laugh, bite my nails with the characters, the whole trilogy is very good but I like this one the most)
4- Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone (Even though my countryman Alsonso Cuarón did the third one the one I like the most is the first one, in second place it's of course the Prisoner of Azcaban)
5-V for Vendetta (I know it's brand new but right now I can't recall another movie for this spot on my list, all I can say is that this movie is very very very good, it has some absurd concepts but I still liked it)
That's all! My top 5, I think those are wise desitions! I hope you can forgive me for putting Harry Potter on the fourth spot! I loooove Harry Potter like the rest of you ok? Don't get me wrong!!

My absolutely top favorites are not very well known. I often don't like movies that are really popular. Can't figure out what's so great about "pirates of the caribbean" for example. I think it's one of the most boring movies I've ever seen
My favorites are:
1.) Thirteen Days
2.) Primary Colors
3.) Mississippi Burning
4.) Once upon a time in America
5.) The Godfather (here we get back to the well-known)
6.) Gangs of New York was quite cool too
And Star Wars is always good for a laugh but I wouldn't consider them really great movoes

Ooh. Favorite movies. To be completely honest, I'm not too hot on the Harry Potter movies. (I know, you all have permission to slap me). Don't get me wrong, the books and the plot are both amazing. I wouldn't be here if I didn't like them. But I think that the movies could have been a lot better.
I understand that there were problems with money and certain limitations, but come on guys. I think that Year One to Three were horrible film-wise. Things started to warm up during GoF. That's probably one of the only HP movies I don't bore my head off viewing.

But alas, this thread is not for the movies I dislike, now on to the movies I like.

First off, I have to say that there is one movie that I saw and loved when I was no older than seven. *puts on Time-Turner* It's called 'Gold Diggers'. Don't ask me who acted in it, because I would be lying if I told you. It was sad (for my seven year old emotions in any event) to watch because a girl almost gets killed. I won't go too much into detail.
The next movie I would like to put out there is 'Pay It Forward'. Kevin Spacey acted in it along with a famous actress who I don't know the name. (

)
[Edit: Actress: Helen Hunt] It talked about the problems within a broken family, and overall, the life of a young boy who was never really accepted at his numerous schools and was the kid who 'always got bullied'. It's more dramatic and emotional than anything else. He gets killed being bullied. It's the first movie I've ever teared in out of two. (Cedric in GoF). *RIP*
Another movie that I've been rather fond of recently is the movie 'Clue'. It's a 1985 classic. I think that it's surnamed 'Cluedo' everywhere else except in the US. I'm in love with that movie, and the odd thing is that I have no idea why. I played the board game when I was younger, but was never really
obsessed with it.

Tim Curry stars in it, and I will tell you know that he is a much better actor than some of the fakes Hollywood employs now. *sigh*
One last film (or rather TV mini-series) that I will throw out there is Fawlty Towers. I'm almost positive that a lot of VTM's British fans have heard of it. I wouldn't be surprised if us Americans have heard of it as well. It's something very amusing to watch. John Cleese stars in it (a younger version of him

) and he does a magnificent job.
Just thought you lot would like to know what I like (and what I dislike) in the media floating around our society today.

Ahh I am such a big movie fan .. I prefer movies to television, the computer, and music anyday. I like comedies .. they make me laugh and one comedy that I really love and is one of those movies you can't get enough of is Dumb and Dumber

It's so stupid .. but I also think it's genuis! Both Jim Carry and Jeff Daniels are great! Action movies are awsome aswell .. my favorite action movies would have to be The Mummy and all of the Indiana Jone's movies.

I'm so addicted! Does Back to the Future count as action or mystery?! I'm not too much of a fan of horror movies .. i'm scared easily .. and so that leaves .. chick flicks!!
I love love love .. The Notebook, 13 going on 30, A Walk to Remember, Save the Last Dance, Adventures in Babystitting, Hocus Pocus, Sixteen Candles, Ever After, Wedding Singer, Stand by Me (I LOVE River Pheonix. Poor kid) Grease, Titanic .. Some are old, but I still love them! Isn't it strange how a lot of the movies we like are kind of .. past their time? lol

PS: Oh and I also love the HP movies!

My taste is pretty ecclectic. Let me list just a few of my favorites - they range from the forties to present time: (in no particular order)
1. Rocky - the first one ONLY.
2. - 3. Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back, wasn't fond of the 3rd one.
4. Back to the Future - the sequels were just OK
5. Raiders of the Lost Ark - the sequels were just OK
6. American Graffiti - loved Harrison Ford! The music was good too.
7. Clan of the Cave Bear - first movie that had no real dialogue what so ever, and I was entertained!
8. Casablanca - love it from start to finish!
9. Blue Lagoon - beautiful under water scenes.
10. A Clockwork Orange - strange movie, but I was riveted to my seat.
11. It's A Wonderful Life - I watch it every Christmas!
12. The Outsiders - all those gorgeous guys! This is a film based on books about boys written by a young woman.
13. Bridges of Madison County - prefer the book, but the movie was good too. Great love story!
14. A Chorus Line - the ending makes you stand up and cheer!
15. Picnic - love the dance scene when the lead actress comes down the steps!
16. Arsenic and Old Lace - real slap stick! It's a fun movie.
17. Wizard of Oz - always entertains me.
18. Das Boot - German movie. If you're not claustophobic (it takes place on a submarine), watch this one. It's worth reading the sub-titles, unless you understand German.
19. Fortress - an Australian movie from the 1980's. This is one of the few where I say that the movie was better than the book.
20. Shall We Dance? The Japenese version. A feel good movie.
and of course, the Harry Potter movies to date!

ooh, Jordon, you have highlighted out the good movies/mini series - I love the Fawlty Towers, cracks me up every single time. I think the British comedy in some aspects is very funny and is fantastically suited to my sense of humour. The other mini series, I LOVE...(he he he) is The Office (the UK version)...it just reminded me of work sometimes..The other British comedy I must mention that I became very obsessed with -- The Black Books (Doesn't anyone love Bernard and Manny!? he he)
Ok, back to topic... Movies...hmm...oh! I went through the Alfred Hitchcock stage - ohhh...weren't they fantastic thrillers/murder mysteries movies -- he was really ahead of his time. Another reason why I like them is because the actors are usually old Hollywood stars - (from the top of my head I remember) Grace Kelly, Gary Grant, James Stewart, etc etc - just simply too many to name, but they were fabulous, fabulous actors.

I still maintain i have no favourite movie although i like: Apocolypse Now, Fitzcarraldo, El Giopartti...etc. I can't think of them now, but no Harry Potter in my top 50 or so, i'm afraid...

I noticed one of you like Clan of the Cave Bear, and while it was a magnificent book, the movie sucked somthing fierce. None of it was in anyway convincing. Here are some of my favorites:
1- Judgment at Nuremberg(?)
2- Rocky (the original. The others not so much although I love the song Eye of the Tiger.)
3- The Shawshank Redemption
4- Dirty Harry
5- Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (not the one with Ashton, that one sux.)
My favorite action films have to be Star Wars and the Lethal Weapon series. They're just so much fun to watch. Another movie that deserves mention is the one, the only, Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Hi There
FFFanatic06, welcome to VTM

I couldn't help but notice that you used minor netspeak.
sux should have been

Thanks

Jun 4 2006, 08:31 PM
Ygraine- Sux is the proper spelling of the word. It isn't net speak, that's how it's actually spelled. Sux is a slang term used to describe something that isn't good. The reason it's spelled that way is because that's how the people who first used it pronounced it. It's like 'lawd', what's meant is lord but because of the way it's pronounced some people perfer to write lord to get their message across. So I haven't broken any actual rules. I know because I just doubled checked. I mean no malice or disrespect. I am merely pointing out how your working under a false assumption. I know posting completely unrelated material is against the rules but I don't trust PM.
Anyway, what're your favorites musicals and why?
Mine are:
-the Lion King (self explanatory)
-Singing in the Rain(I love Gene(?) Kelly(?), he's one of the funniest and most talented actors of all time.)
-Brigadoom(?)(see Singing in the rain)

*sucks breath in through teeth*
Ooh, you dont *ever* disrespect the prefects. I'm not quite sure what you mean by the 'I don't trust PM' remark, but that is the way we do things around here and I'm afraid you're just going to have to get used to that otherwise you're going to run afoul of the moderators - or me, which in a lot of ways, is decidedly worse.
You received a slight prod - just take it and bear it in mind for the future. It's completely true what Ygraine said - there is a list containing the abbreviations, slang and minor netspeak that is allowed here and 'sux' isn't on there...and I should know because I wrote the list.
Please, in the future, don't ever argue with a staffer in the thread. If you wish to discuss something, you must use the PM system or, alternately, e-mail, but if you continue to argue with a member of staff in a thread, you are likely to end up with restrictions being placed on your account. The original offence is irrelevant here - what's bothering me more than anything is the lack of respect - which is *very* clear in the rules.
Okay...unpleasantness out of the way....let's get back to the topic.

I recently rewatched a movie last weekend and I'm not sure it is a favourite of mine but it was one of those movies that I couldn't get it out of my head for years and years. It has something to do with the Triffids...title is The Day of the Triffids (1981). Don't get it or never heard of it? It's based on science fiction book decades ago and basically is a post-apocalyptic story and this is the very film that inspired the making of the 28 Days Later (2002).
I just found it so scary - it is not really a horror film (well it could be argued that it is a horror film because of those carnivous Triffids) but the idea of having an apocalypse on earth and surviving is just unimaginable, particularly the life you know now is gone forever (eletricity, government collapsing and then the brink of anarchy), and the hostile & carnivous form of plant just preys on the weak -- people previously fought against them and controlled them but because of the apocalypse they couldn't anymore. It sounds really confusing but not only it is entertaining, it is also thought provoking in terms of how you would survive.
I would really recommend this film (the rating is M though) and just thinking about it, I guess it is one of my favourite films because I think about what would I do if I was in that situation and fight for survival. If you don't like old films then the latest one (though it contains different scenario) will do!
Has anyone seen this one or the 28 Days Later?

28 Says Later? The survival horror flick right. Mass outbreak in Britain. Whole country becomes contaminated by some zombie/cannibalistic human making virus. Teen chick, black chick and slightly nerdy white guy were the leads right? That was a nice film. Sorry nice isn't the right term. It was a good movie. I enjoyed the 'okay they're mosters, but they have to eat, right? Let's starve 'em out!' thing they did. That was brilliant. I haven't seen a single horror film that took such an original approach to the idea of rampaging mutated humans running a muck. I especially like whn they're all shopping while there are cannibals all over the country. And then they all take 'sleeping pills' that night while out in the open. Actually the scene where the nerdy guy just massacres that army guy was awesome. First time he ever showed any real backbone.

Now I feel like seeing that movie (28 Days Later) this weekend - I've seen it couple of years ago but I've forgotten what was specifically about so yeah I might as well see it again while I'm in the mood!
I love love
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, fragglecomegomibayas - it was just a beautiful film and was quite surreal. It's interesting thinking about what if...your mind had been erased and whether you would fall in love again with the same person?

That's an interesting question. Maybe I'll check that movie out! Who's the director/lead actors?
Has anyone here seen Judgement at Nuremberg (I hope I spelled that right.)? It's a pretty old film. It takes place during the Nazi war trials. The whole movie is the court case where the leaders of the Nazi party are on trial for crimes against humanity and the like. The actors did an amazing job and I don't give compliments lightly. It's a great film. I think everyone should watch it.
Oh! One of you is a Kill Bill fan! How would you feel if Quentin directed movies six and seven? Me, I think he'd do a stellar job of portraying just the level of awesomness of books six and (hopefully) book 7. He can certainly do action and there will be no lack of it in movies six and seven.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: The main actors are Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey and the director is Michel Gondry (I'm not good with directors names so I can't say what other films he has done). Jim was surprisingly good in this drama film (but then he was also quite good in The Truman Show) and I definitely recommend it, you are in the mood for drama, angst and a bit of sci fic. The storyline is awesome and is a bit different.
Wow, the film Judgement at Nuremberg sounds really interesting - I might rent that dvd when the exams are over. I reckon some films made couple decades ago are quite good compared to now because they are originals, different & contained unusual stories and now with the remakes, the methods are bit tired and predictable etc. Think The Omen. By the way, is the new version of The Omen a worthy candiate for "Favourite Movies"? I think I'll just wait for a dvd instead.
