The BBC announced that they are planning to launch a reality show later this year called "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" later this year, which will "follow a group of children learning magic at a Harry Potter-style boarding school."

The fourteen children on the show will learn card tricks and other magic tricks, which they will then perform in front of "magic mentors," who will judge them. According to the BBC, "the children watching at home will also get to learn magic tricks, in an accompanying morning series - which is yet to be named.

"The magic mentors will give away their secrets and perform step-by-step guides, so children can learn and perform the tricks themselves."

Can you imagine how this will fuel religious fanatics to burn books? (No pun intended...) It's insane! laugh.gif

I wonder what the BBC were thinking. tongue.gif I don't mind this show - if Harry Potter hadn't existed, it would have been called 'Who wants to be Houdini?', but I can already see how zealots will sweep up en masse to protest. This will make for fun, I think, especially when Laura Mallory catches wind of it.

And can you imagine how it will spike the hype surrounding the last book? I think JK Rowling is laughing her head off. She couldn't have asked for better publicity!

Ah but, you see this is the mighty BBC and they can do as they please. Honestly though it won't have that kind of impact over here (UK). There might be a random comments from some obscure church leader, but on the whole I think it will be taken as intended, a bit of fun.

All I can say is, thank God Laura Mallory doesn't live here. I am looking forward to watching this, it will be a good laugh and considering we've had all kinds of magicians secrets, mind tricks and even The Worst Witch broadcast here for years, I doubt this will be seen any different.

Yeah, I believe that, Elaine. wink.gif Britons have a very dfferent approach to witchcraft - the strong Pagan roots, eh? But perhaps foreigners will make more of it? Probably not. It is very good that Laura Mallory doesn't live there, then. tongue.gif I still hope she freaks out about it though!

Either way, I hope the show does well. It'll be fun, though I probably won't get to see it. What a fun idea though! I'd love to go to fake-Hogwarts! tongue.gif

I mentioned this show to a group of year six pupils at school today. None of them were aware of it, but all are Harry fans and the majority were pretty exited by it, the boys mainly, the girls thought it would be like one big sleepover, typical!! lol!

I think we do still have strong Pagan roots Laurette, so things that shock and disturb others we seem to accept pretty readily without fuss. Maybe because we don't all believe like that Mallory woman, that we are all going to go to hell if we like a bit of magic in our lives.

I think that would be cool for a show. I dont think theyre will be any outrage about it, when we have shows with kids like Raven ( a group of kids challenge for the title of warrior, to help protect this island that has been taken over by a dark lord and his evil apprentices, that looks amazingly like death eaters) .
Kids would love a harry potter themed show!!

i think the show is a cute idea. this will help with the youger audience because the new books are long and not intended for the younger kids!!
