Well, what do you lot think?
I personally thought she really looked the best in PS/SS! It's exactly the way JK described her through-out the book series. She looked so sweet and very much like a know-it-all bossy boots bookworm! lol In CoS she still looked fine, a bit more matured, but still the swirly curls!
I think her look became deteriorated when her hair became shorter and less curly (and more wavy-like)-- especially in PoA and Gof... and perhaps even in OotP (from the promotional stills that I have seen). It took the typical Hermione-ish bushy look away. And the bushy look is one of her most distinguishable traits. But alas.. They directors keep changing it...

I think that her hair was more true to her book charcter in the first movie. After that her hair got tamer and tamer, and now its nothing compared to what its really supposed to look like.

I don’t think any of them looked like what Hermione’s hair should be but the closest one was probably PS. In the second one on it looked like it either just come out of pleats or had been curled. I imagined much more natural bushy waves, rather a bit like my own hair …

J.K Rowling said Emma Watson was the perfect pick for one of her characters out of all the actors chosen to play all the roles, she said even when she just spoke to her on the phone for the first time she knew that Emma was perfect for the role. I think her hair has been pretty much spot on for the entire series.
When she was younger her hair was very bushy, just like it was describled, and it's still bushy in the films nowadays though not as much, but that's also the way Hermione is in the books. Remember that in the Goblet of Fire her hair was describled as being straigher during the Yule Ball.

Really? That's an interesting fact of JKR upon hearing Emma for the first time over the phone and thinking she's the perfect Hermione.

I really do have to agree. Hermione's face and the way she speaks and "moves/acts" is really Hermione-ish - like in the books. There's nothing wrong there at all. But I watched PoA now, and I must admit

she kind of looks okay. Her hair I mean... It's more curly actually. But I don't really like it in Gof.. it's long, but not curly. Just a 'worn out' type of loose wave-curl. hehe
Yes, I know in the Yule Ball she straightened it... But I think thereafter it went back to its usual bushiness... I think.... Can't remember

Miss_Dobby, here's the direct quote for ya, I had to do a bit of searching but I got it lol
Hannah from St Malachy’s Primary School - Armagh: Did you feel the actors suited the characters of your book when you met them?
JK Rowling replies -> Yes, I did. Emma Watson in particular was very, very like Hermione. When I first spoke to her, I knew she was perfect, from that first 'phone call.

I think the hair was probably more right in the first and second films, but seriously, her hair doesn't bother me. The fact Emma is the perfect Hermione is better than anyone could ask for from WB really. Her hair really can't stay the same in all the movies, just like Dan's and Rupert's have to change too.

I say Prisoner of Azkaban
In the first one her hair was like crimped and ratty ewww. I remember seeing it and thinking "Ugggh! Brush your hair!"
2nd was ok. Cute bangs
3rd was the best. Curley, some bangs. Really cute.
4th was ehhh. Her hair was a little shorter than the 4th so the curls were bunched up weird.
I think that the 5th will be a good hair movie for Hermione (not for Harry though

I loved Hermione best with bangs (PS, CoS). She looked adorable. I wish in the 6th film they would dress her up in the quintessential Hermione hair.

I agree with most people in this thread. Hermione's hair is supposed to be really bushy like it was in the first movie. But in the latter movies, it doesn't seem that true to the book anymore.
Harry's hair is also not as messed up as it's supposed to be.

I think Hermione's hair looks right in Harry potter and the philosophers stone. Because it is mainly in this film that her hair really is frizzy and haywire. In the other films like prisoner of azkaban, her hair looks quite nice and ive seen people on good hair days with worser hair than she has in that film. I think that to get the right effect in the up coming films they sould back comb the hair to make it luggy and big, so maybe then it'll look right, but at the moment she isnt getting the right look with it. And its not as if its a major thing to do, it would take about 2 seconds to make her hair look bushier.

I thought PS/SS Hermione's hair was too bushy. I know that her hair is described that way in the books, but I felt like JK was exaggerating a bit to make it feel more real. I frequently do that in every day life. An obvious exaggeration gets the point across. It should be more wild than it was in Goblet, but I understand that they don't want Emma to look like Trelawney.

Yeah, she seemed the best "Hermione" look in the Sorcers Stone Movie. Her hair is much more bushy, just Like JKR described it in the books, also giving her a much more bossy look.
In the later ones she looks more matured and her hair is far less bushy, and it doesn't seem to fit her character as well as the later ones do.

J.K Rowling said Emma Watson was the perfect pick for one of her characters out of all the actors chosen to play all the roles
Actually JKR said so about several actors chosen for parts in the movies. She said that Robbie Coltrane was the one in her mind when she wrote about Hagrid and therefore personally expressed her wish for him to be cast in that role and I couldn't agree with her more. Coltrane is perfect just as I always visualised Hagrid to be. Similarly, when she saw Daniel for the first time, she said that she felt like she was meeting her long lost son and she also remarked that she thought that it was Harry that had walked into the room. The point of all these digressions is that she's generally been quite appreciative of the casting in the movies. After all she revealed to Rickman and Coltrane the fates of their respective characters and that's a big thing.
Back to Hermione, one particular scene stands out where I felt that he hair was really like what is described in the books. This is the scene in the great hall, with Seamus Finnigan (Devon Murray) going on with something like "Eye of Rabbit, Harp String hum; Turn this water, into rum", before the goblet explodes and there's smoke all around. Hermione (Emma Watson) has a look of disapproval and just waves her hand to disperse the stench. That's the scene where her hair is really bushy. You can check it out if you like.

I completely agree! She looked her best in PS/SS...because that is how J.K. described her as...they have gotten a little lax on that , but I guess if your Emma, you wouldn't want to always look like that as an image of who you are! I also like CoS too, because it was in between the real look and the look she has now.

I think it would've varied because Hermione is getting older and more conscious of her appearance. So in the first two she wouldn't really care, hence the realli fuzzy hair. Then as she gets older it'l become more styled and tame lol.

I think that Hermione's hair was more like the description of the books in the first movie. After that, they just tried to make her look pretty with nice, curly hair which was not the case in the books.I like Emma in the movies and I think she looks beautiful but is that what Rowling wanted?I mean,in the 4th book it was a big deal when Hermione appeared at the Yule Ball because she was totally different and finally someone could say she is pretty but in the movies she has always been.

The first movie definately portrayed the real Hermione's look as described in the books best. However, I actually like Hermione's hair best in the Goblet of Fire, even though that isn't the way that it really is supposed to be. It doesn't really bother me that her hair has changed as the films progressed. Hair seems trivial to me, especially when some of my favorite scenes from the books are cut from the movie.

I think Herminone look in the SS was best fit her from how the books describe her hair as for the rest of the movies I think they vered off from how her hair was suppose to be but I think that's Fine because for one thing as she/us get older we tend to change and try to impress the boys by being pretty and all that girly stuff, but the first is right on the nail.

her hair is the most hermione-ish in the philosopher's stone as it is just like its described in the books

In PS it looks like she put her finger in a frick socet. I agree it looks most like JK says in the books, but it almost look ridiclous. I like it in PoA the best, it looks curly, and shorter hair frames Emma's face well. I think in GoF it looks almost to done and in CoS it's a bit to long.

I liked it best in the first movie. It was most like JKR's description in the books. I think they've let Emma Watson's "nerdy" side go and now she doesn't really look too much like I picture Hermione to look. She's still great for the role, I think though.

In SS her hair was closest to Hermione's look, but it didn't change much in Chamber of Secrets... Still the Hermione look.. But then in PoA it became a little less bushy and a little more wavy. But it still looks like Hermione's hair. In GoF her hair was a little too straight but most of the time it seemed like she wore it up in a bun. Oh well, Watson still plays the perfect Hermione.

Hmm...Well I think her hair is best in POA, in fact, all the character seemed more like how JK created them in the 3rd movie, so for looks, I think that one is the best.
As for PS/SS, I think her hair in that was a bit to frizzy. It just looked a mess, to tell you the truth. In POA her hair is bushy, but tamed, if that makes sense.
In GOF her hair is nice, but not Hermione-ish, though it is very pretty at the Yule Ball.
And, after seeing OOTP, I think it is near enough just right. It's more like POA in the film, which I think is perfecto.

Although Philosopher's Stone was the most accurate, you can't expect them to make a beautiful girl like Emma ugly. As she gets older, she gets prettier, just like what happens to most girls. Her hair gets tamer along with her personality. In the first two she is pretty uptight and serious. In the third through fifth, she is more relaxed and not as obsessed with school. I do admit that I don't like how her hair has gotten blonder, especially in the fifth movie, it is very blonde.

CoS- definitely. Not too bushy like in SS (really, it looks like she didn't even wash it), but not so prissy like in PoA and after.

Woah, woah, wait a second! Who said they are making Emma look ugly? Just because Hermione has really big hair doesn't mean she's ugly! And frankly, I don't think that Emma's real life or how she wishes she should loko should even be included in her role as Hermione Granger. She's an actress! She oughta start acting like one (no pun at all intended).
I will admit that as Hermione got older I imagined her hair getting a little more tamer and flatter, but not terribly much. It was still thick and kindly bushy. But it's getting too flat in the movies... and too blonde!

That is the thing about movies isn't it? They take "creative license" and change the story and characters so that they make more money. Emma Watson is getting older, and we know she is placed on lists for most attractive young celebrities. Bushy haired Hermione is more authentic, but most people find the sleeker hair more attractive. Simply enough, they make more money by changing her hair. I wish they wouldn't though.

I have to agree with everything you said in the first post, Miss_Dobby. I thought she was perfect in the first 2 films. Her hair was bushy just like it is described in the books. After the PoA, it shortened and didn't have the bushy look. It became ........how do I put it?......stylish. It just wasn't' Hermione. It's very pretty and all. I like it. It's fine for Emma Watson, but not for Hermione.

Once Chris Columbus stopped being the producer (after The Chamber of Secrets) it's no secret that the movies went a little away from the books and likenesses, as Chris was very particular about being loyal to them. You'll even noticed more Harry Potter book quotes per movie in the ones Chris directed than the others. The critisim of this was that he focused too much on being like the book and not enough on character and storyline development. I personally disagree, but there you go.
Look at Dan's hair. Since when did Harry Potter have a perfectly neat, tidy combed over do? It's the complete anti-Potter haircut! lol. I have to be honest though, I did imagine Hermione's hair getting more "tamed" as the years went by. Maybe that was just me though, but I wasn't surprised in the movies at all. I've always though Emma Watson, Robbie Coletraine and Alan Rickman were most like their characters that I had envisaged. JK Rowling has said Emma and Robbie are very like her imagination of the characters at any rate.

Feb 17 2008, 10:41 PM
in the first movie i thought her hair was close, but still not bushy enough. it was crimped but not "bushy" i mean, you need to be able to see this through the crowds big. but then as the movies get on, her hair keeps getting nicer, flatter, and curly! hermione's hair isnt suppose to be curly, its suppose to be big and puffy, thats why the yule ball is suppose to be such a big difference. honestly, they need to suck it up and not care whether she looks good, shes an actress and its her job to look the part! just tease and blow dry the hair and make it bigger!
Killian
Feb 18 2008, 09:11 PM
It's not Emma's choice J_J. She goes into the make-up artist they do their magic. If they want it a certain style, colour, look they do it. Emma is naturally a blonde, if they don't dye her hair, that's their choice. They obviously do though - as it's much darker during HP movies than usual.
As I mentioned above, once Chris Columbus, the director who did Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets, left, the movies became more "storyline" based. He wanted the movies to be as real to the books as posible, but the directors after him didn't care for that so much as they cared about developing the story. Just look at Dan with his BLUE eyes and extremely tidy combed-over hair do, the polar-opposite of the messy rag we're told Harry Potter has.

i totally agree Killian, that is one thing that reallly annoyed me, Daniel Radcliffe, really should have been wearing green contacts, if it was just a description thing, then fair enough, but it is important to the storyline, when snape dies, he says "look at me" because he wants to see harry's eyes, meaning Lily's eyes, before he dies. they haven't paid enough attention to that in the movies. there you go, yet another thing they will have to cut from Deathly Hallows
Killian
Feb 19 2008, 07:59 PM
You know, I never actually caught on that that is what Snape meant. I really should re-read Deathly Hallows lol. I have a new found fondness for Severus Snape now lol. Oh, and Chris Columbus had Dan were green contacts I think - oddly enough, I've seen Dan's eyes both green and blue in the earlier films. Maybe it was just promotional posters I saw his eyes as green though, I can't be sure.
PottyHead
Feb 20 2008, 06:44 PM
I read somewhere that they tried to get Dan to wear green contacts in the first few films, but he couldn't wear them because they hurt him or something so they just left it.
As for Hermiones hair though I think the first ones did it justice. When they got the third film and onwards they began caring too much about how she looked, not whether she looked like the character or not. Like she's supposed to have this huge bushy wild hair that she can't tame and instead they give her nice hair thats been curled with irons and made to look good instead of made to look like the character description.
Chris Columbus definatley got the best feel for the movies, he should never have left, he should have done all 7 movies.

I think it's PS/SS; it's closer by far to Hermione's self: bushy, brown, tangled. Since PoA, it's like she cared about being more "girly", so she didn't like to wear such a messy hair anymore or something. And it was worse when her hair turned a bit fairer, but ... well, she's now Hermione, we love her, we've approved her, and I couldn't think in another person but Emma.
And about Dan's light blue eyes, it'd be better if he can wear the green contacts, because it's very important the colour of his eyes, but ... well, the same that with Hermione.

I think PS/SS made Hermione look the best. She had that messy hair that was exactly like the books described it, so that it had no shape.
From then on, her hair started looking better and better up to the point that I've even envied it, and that was not the Hermione I read about. Her hair was supposed to be extremely straight for the Yule Ball in GoF, and they couldn't even get that right.
I love the all-over-the-place messy hair she had in PS/SS, it was simply the best for me, the more real (down to the book) one!

Well, the first movie was spot on for emma's hair. however, people say it's curly, it's not. It's just quite big. Look:
http://www.typowriters.com/HP/hermione.jpg That'S exactly how I imagined her hair, thick and knotty. Chamber of secret's her hair wasn't very good, it was flat and too long and quite thin and small waves and the cute bangs of course. Prisoner I thought was the best- it was very bushy and looked just right: look:
http://hp-stars.com/073.jpg and
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/gal.../Hermione09.jpgThen Goblet of fire, it was great aswell, very wavy and curly but no bushy, and it looked to stylized aswell. Here:
