Full Version: How Come Myrtle Has A Horcrux? Did She Kill?

I was just thinking.

HOW COME MYRTLE IS A GHOST?
-really, how come?- Did she kill someone in the school, who then? Was that why she was crying? When did she die? Did she meet Voldemort in her youth and got murdered for Voldemort's first horcrux?? Can other people split your soul and put it in an object for you? Can you by accident leave a mark of yourself, thus explaining how Myrtle did? Can you "switch souls" (like swap, for example like if Voldemort swapped a part of Harry To put his in Harry's body)? Can you transfer your whole soul? Can a pensieve be a horcrux because surely Dumbledore killed and the pensieve would be a mark? How come the portraits are people "stuck" in a picture, can the portrait of people be a horcrux?

THESE ARE ALL ITCHING MY BRAIN!!

Please share your opinion.

I am not entirely sure I get what you are saying. Do you mean that Myrtle has a horcrux because she is a ghost? If so, you don't have to have a horcrux to be a ghost. Ghosts are imprints of people who would rather stay behind. They are of people who are afraid of death and choose not to move on, but to stay in the world from which they came.
Or are you asking if it is possible that Myrtle has a horcrux? If so, I don't think so. She was killed at such a young age, and I don't think that she would be that kind of person. It took Voldemort lots of hard work to find out about horcruxes and how to make them. Even after he got information out of Slughorn, he still had to find out how to actually do it. I don't think Myrtle would know that and I don't think she would do that.
As for the portraits, it is possible that one of the horcruxes is a portrait (although I don't think they are but it is certainly possible), but I don't think all portraits are horcruxes. It is a magical thing. Portraits allow those people to talk to the people and all of that, but I don't think they are all horcruxes. All of those people who get portraits are pretty well known wizards and witches, and I don't think all of them have horcruxes.

As for the pensieve, I don't think it is one. It is always possible, but Dumbledore is way above making a horcrux. He is not afraid of death. He would not use the death of someone else to make himself live longer. It is possible that Dumbledore has killed before (like killed bad wizards/witches but not just killed like Voldemort does), but I still don't think he would make a horcrux.

These are all great ideas. I just don't know if I am understanding what you are saying entirely. Sorry!

I think that Potter4President answered this one... you don't need a horcrux to be a ghost, you just have to fear dying.

Since it wasn't a horcrux, she didn't need to kill anyone, nor do I think that she would have for any other reason. She was in the bathroom crying because Olive Somebody-or-other was making fun of her glasses.
QUOTE

She was in school at Voldemort's time, but there is no mention as to whether or not she actually knew him. She was murdered by the basilisk when the Chamber of secrets was first opened. Tom Riddle let it out into the girl's bathroom where she was crying, and when she opened the stall door to see what the sound was, she came face to face with it.

Only JKR knows these for sure.

I'm not sure what you mean by a mark, but I think that any object can be a horcrux. Dumblefore, however does not have a horcrux, as it is Dark Magic that he would not do, he was not afraid to die and thought death was the next great adventure, and JKR has said that he is definitely dead.

Portraits are the imprint of a person who once lived. There are theories that portrait painters use magic paint and some part of the person like hair to give it the person's memories and some degree of their personality. (like the hair did in the polyjuice potion.) It is not the same as being alive or being a ghost, the person is dead and their soul has moved on.

I think that I got all the questions that you had... hope it helps!

A ghost is an imprint of a persons soul on the earth not the storing of a piece of your torn soul. Myrtle didn't kill, she stayed behind when she died bcuz she wanted to.
Madmoiselle Lilly
Yeah, just becaue she's a ghost doesn't mean that she killed anyone and made a horcrux. She is dead, she's just a ghost because she feared death.
radkay03
jkr said in a interview that happy people cant become ghosts. myrtle was so angry when she died, she wanted to haunt that chick, right? so thats why she became a ghost i think.

I'm not sure what you are saying either, but a lot of what you are saying can be easily answered by reading Chamber of Secrets. I don't mean to be rude or anything, but have you ever read the second novel?

All of this is in there, I won't spoil it for you if you haven't read it yet.

Dumbledore said about people who are afraid of death are ghosts after sirius died. How did you get to thinking she has a horcrux?
Tarquin the Proud
Moaning Myrtle remained on Earth as a ghost because she wanted revenge on Olive Hornby for having tormented her throughout life. She haunted Olive Hornby. Moaning Myrtle was too much of an emotional wreck to kill anyone. She allowed people to walk all over her. As far as the horcrux theory, the DArk Lord wouldn't have needed to enclose some of his soul in her ghost. Happy Easter. Se gap lai nhe.

Tarquin is right.
Myrtle was either to scared to move on but probably just wanted to haunt Olive Hornby.

You are exactly right. If you have a horcrux, that will prevent you from dying, hence you could not be a ghost. Se gap lai nhe.

umm ok... i dont mean to be rude... but what the hel ? lol. Myrtle, horcruxe? what? im really sorry but where did you get that idea? Just because she`s a ghost doesnt mean she killed someone herself. We dont even know how poeople become ghosts... but jk said we should find out more about it in book 7.... and shes always crying BECASUE shes deasd. And she followed and haunted olive hornby becasue she teased her in school... really.. it says it all in the books.....

Im sorry didnt mean to sound rude there... but come on...

Okay... this is the exact quote from the book:
QUOTE

"Ooooh, it was dreadful," she said with relish. "It happened right in here. I died it this very shall. I remember it so well. I'd hidden becase Olive Hornby was teasing me about my glasses. The door was locked, and I was crying, and then I heard somebody come in. They said something funny. A different langage, I think it must have been. Anyway, what really got me was that it was a boy speaking. So I unlocked the door, to tell him to go and use his own toilet, and then-" Myrtle swelled importantly, her face shining. "I died."
"How?" said Harry.
"No idea," said Myrtle in hushed tones. "I just remember seeing a pair of great, bug, yellow eyes. My whole body sort of seized up, and then I was floating away...." She looked dreamily at Harry. "And then I came back again. I was determined to haunt Olive Hornby, you see. Oh, she was sorry she'd ever laughed at my glasses."

So she didn't have a horcrux... She just wanted to haunt Olive.
