I'm reading the paper, and there's a small part relating to Dan, here's what it says:

"Little wizard Daniel Radcliffe has banned fellow Harry Potter stars Emma Watson and Rupert Grint from seeing him in Equus - because he doesn't want them to see his, er, magic wand.

Ginger Rupert Grint, Harry's best friend Ron, revealed:

"He told us he didn't want us at the play. I was glad because it would be a little weird and uncomfortable to see".

-News of the World (UK).

Notice how they have to make note that Rupert is ginger lol. Anyway, an interesting news tibet, so I thought I'd pass it along, especially since American Potter-Fans don't get the English newspapers.
Vickii
that made me lol sooo much.

I don't think they'd want to see his err wagic wand!!!
Quite funny actually, i think he'd be rather embarrased, but thing is he's going round in front of thousands of people and yet his friends haven't seen him. weird logic eh?

After the Burial
There is comfort in anonymity. I don't mean that Dan is shrouded in anonymity. He is obviously very famous. There is comfort in not knowing the names and faces in the crowd. When you know people in the crowd, you begin to wonder what they are thinking.

In some ways, it is easier to be expose yourself (emotionally or physically) to a crowd of nameless faces than those you will need to see and speak with far more often. I fully understand why Dan wouldn't want his close friends to see the play.
ILoveHarryPotter07
Hahah. that made me laugh so hard! wow. tongue.gif But I agree, I think for Emma and Rupert it would be really awkard to see someone you've known for so long like that i dont really think they'd have wanted to go anyways. lol. I agree I think there is comfort in anonymity, maybe he feels as though he wouldn't be able to preform with them out there watching it.
jiggery-pokery
I don't think the spark between the three of them would be as bright if they saw Harry's...errr...wand. It would be awkward for them to act with him and just to hang out with him knowing what his...errr... wand looks like.
After the Burial
Rupert is so shy that I doubt he would go see a play where anyone was nude. Emma wouldn't go because that would just make for awkward moments on the set. Dan probably didn't need to ban them from the play. I think Emma and Rupert knew that they shouldn't go to it before Dan ever needed to say it.
DobbyLuvr831
wow. i totally understand, though. could you imagine having to act next to someone for an important upcoming movie, after being forced to live through such an experience (going to the play) with that person

thanks for the info! it's really funny!! biggrin.gif

......magic wand.......lol.
zoabella
I think it's a bit amusing, but I think that Daniel is a true actor, who cares for the condition of the Harry Potter movies, so he tells Emma and Rupurt to not watch it. It's not much to ask, and I think it's very admirable of him to keep his co-stars from seeing his...*cough* Magic wand. biggrin.gif
Moon(I luv you Luna)
I can understand. I mean, imagine seeing your good friends magic wand! That would be a bit disturbing, seeing as they've known each other for how many years?

I find that quite amussing, mind, i don't think they'd want to see it in the first place, would they? I know i wouldn't ... happy.gif
nevillesgirl
Ok, I'm going to play a bit of the Devil's Advocate here...but let us consider that perhaps Emma and Rupert would want ohmy.gif to see the play? Possible reason could be that they are so familiar with his acting abilities in the Potter series that they might want to see his talent in another venue. They could always close there eyes during the nude scene if it bothered them that much. After all they are all very grown up now...
By the way, Magic Wand...too funny tongue.gif
Celsius
It's actually very nice that Dan doesn't want them to see Equus because, like Rupert said, I bet it would definitely make them uncomfortable. At least Dan cares for his fellow actors and warned them not to see...such...things. laugh.gif Anyways, I'm glad Dan said something to them about not seeing the play and such because..well yeah.
Aethonon
Maybe...I dunno. Seems strange. Maybe not for Emma but for Rupert. I mean, if you do sports in school you shower in the same area as your friends. Does that automatically make you embarrassed to be around someone you've seen naked? But then again, on set, these guys each have their own trailer. It's not like they have to share facilities.

I guess what ever floats your boat. smile.gif
TheGoodGirl
I would totally be uncomfortable if I was Emma or Rupert.
I even think it would be uncomfortable for HP fans (fans of the character not the actor...not that I don't like Dan.)
I also agree it is easier to do something like that in front of a 1000 strangers then 10 of your friends. I mean you don't know who they are, if you'll ever see them again and they wont ask questions about it (to you personally anyway).

Madmoiselle Lilly
I completely agree. Doing anything in front of complete strangers is tonnes easier than doing it in front of friends because, as TheGoodGirl mentioned, you'll never have to see these strangers again but friends - you see them all the time. I don't blame Daniel, I would do the exact same thing.
Lil Cougar
Lol... his magic wand?... that made me laugh...

Yeah if I was him I wouldn't want my friends coming... and if I were his friends I wouldn't want to see it... Not that I don't like Dan of course... I love him! wub.gif

But still, its weird acting infront of your friends, ecspeically when they aren't acting with you. When I was in the school play I told my friends that they weren't allowed to come see it. And I tend to get the giggles when I'm with my friends so I might have ended up laughing on stage in the middle of my scene...

But still... magic wand? HAHA!
Ms.Weasley
Firstly i would like to say that it is not "Harry's" wand they would be seeing it would be Daniels. Secondly i think its a good thing. I would have done the same thing if i were daniel I wouldnt want any of my friends seeing my bits.
Not to mention of course that he would be more nervous with them sniggering in the crowd if they would do such a thing. Personally i have my own opinions of Daniel and Emma. shutup.gif
ChOco
I feel like laughing for some reason...haha, magic wand...
but yes, i completely understand why he wouldn't want rupert...and especially emma to see Equus...
urgh...wouldn't that be freaky? seeing one of your best friends' magic wand...*shudders*
Thank god he warned them, I say...
ConnieBoo03
the only thing is that i remember reading somewhere tht daniel has invited Jk Rowling to go and see him in his new play, but woldnt that be just as imbarrising for daniel as it would be if rupert and emma went to see him. i dont konw but it could be because dan or Jk wants to see how much his acting has grown?

lol about the magic wand!!!!!it made me laugh sooooooooooooooo much!
Jezebel
If I was in Dan's position I'd do the exact same thing. I'd forbid my friends and family from seeing it! Being in front of total strangers is one thing, but when you stick a group of your closest friends and family out there in the audience it makes everything a million times harder!
Good decision Dan biggrin.gif I'd actually be a little worried if he had asked them to go see it, lol.
Dani Kat
helo people i dont get it why did he want to run around in his birthday suite on a stage nogal!
i mean doesnt he get cold. and i think the stage of bein on the garden of eden is loong past. we where clothes now!
so i would deffinatly ban anyone from watching me go naked for a show.!!
clara morgue
ok...I get why he didnt want his friends there, but dont you think its all a bit silly?
I saw Equus, and it was tastefully done. Its acting, real acting. You very rarely get people as those that were portrayed in the play, so you cant just blag your way through it, you really have to act.
It was a big challenge for Dan as his west end debut. For a play that hasnt been shown in the west end for decades, and the fact that he is already a household name, there was obviously going to be a lot of publicity around it.
People wouldnt have made such a big deal if they didnt already know him. the Media and obsessed fans took it all way out of proportion.
I can also understand why he may not want people that he sees every day watching the show, but its normal, its just the body... whats the big deal?

EDIT: Oh, and Dani Kat, i imagine that he wanted to break away from the little wizarding boy image, if he wants to be takn seriously as an actor, and be more than a child star, he has to show that he has talents in other areas, he cant always act the wizard part, whether it be stage, period dramas, fantasies etc, he has to show a varied talent.
Its quite common to have nudity in stage shows, and i can see the attraction for actors and actresses, stripping yourself to the bare minimum (no pun intended) and really expressing yourself as an artist, thats why he did it.
Jezebel
I also think the media blew the whole thing way out of proportion.
Even though it's a good thing he took this huge step to get himself out of the wizard image, and being nude on stage isn't anything unheard of, it's still an awkward thing to have your friends go and see you in it. It's fine for the press, and the media, and the fans, but when you throw in your friends and people you know very well it changes things drastically.
*phoenixcore*
I wonder if he banned them from going to the equus website as well. On the website, they have Dan's wand on display for the whole world to see. Here in America, some people have found this to be a bit odd since this would be considered underage nudity (under 18).

they do not show dan in full front on the site, i have been there i know.

As for why Daniel did this play. I believe he has said why he did it, I also think that if Jo was to go there he wouldnt see her anyway.

And yes Jezebel the media did make a big deal out of it. But thats what they do isnt it? If they dont have anything good to write about they will pick on a young man who is acting and doing what he loves (acting) lol. But Daniel doesnt seem phased by the media if i remember correctly he doesnt go online or read the papers lol Thanks all to Dad-rad
Jezebel
Yeah. No full frontal nudity on the site. I went and investigated wink.gif

Dan really doesn't seem phased by the media. That's a wonderful thing actually. Especially since he started out at such a young age. I like seeing him go his own way and ignore what ever is said about him by the media tongue.gif
I guess it is the media's job to make a big deal out of things. Especially something like this. It just gets irritating after a while.
Phoenix_1
laugh.gif I completely understand he wouldn't want Rupert and Emma to see Eqqus...
Urgh...it'd be not only weird- for the three of them- but freaky!!!
I think that if I was in Daniel's position I would have done exactly the same thing
etphonehome
I have a vague memory of being 17 and having friends of my own age, both male and female. Famous or not I don't think I could have allowed any friend of mine to see me in the flesh as it were.

Mine would have giggled immaturely and I think that despite their obvious professionalism, Rupert and Emma wouldn't quite know what to do with their faces blush.gif
miss_r_weasley
I can understand why Dan has banned them from seeing his erm... magic wand lol. It would be extremely awkward for Emma to sit there and watch one of her friends in the nude not to mention Rupert! A few people have said that it doesn't make sense that Dan can act in front of thousands of people but not his own friends and i understand how this feels (not literally) I sing, and i'm fine when our choir goes somewhere else but i get so nervous it is unbelievable if i even just know thatjust one person that i know is in the audience.
Jezebel
It's so much easier to do things in front of strangers. Only because you don't know them. They don't (technically, especially in Dan's case) know you, and you'll never see each other again.
When you stick your friends and family out there in that audience you know you'll have to see them again. More than once! That's just too much pressure for most people.
Some people are fine doing things in front of their peers, but most aren't. When it comes to something like nudity I think everyone's on the same page tongue.gif
Medea
I think it's a childish behavior. Being naked on stage isn't a big deal since the character requires that. Maybe Dan's reaction is more cultural than anything else. The old Victorian way of life... If he weren't English, maybe he wouldn't mind being seen by Ruppert and Emma.Who knows?
megan_de_lioncourt
Good on Dan lmao. That would be so embarrasing, esp. since hes like basically grown up with them. Ill have to start reading that newspaper, i usually read the metro ( free off the bus).
=]
They have put an emphasis on rupert being ginger. Who cares if hes ginger? I like his ginger hair lmao
SpinJam
There are some things that, between friends, coworkers, and other types of relationships, just need to stay under wraps. I mean, can you imagine going into work, and seeing your coworker standing there naked? Eek!
weaslyismyking
LOL! ROFLMAO! That would be kind of awkwarld. that made me laugh so hard. It's kind of good that they are not seeing it. I still like him but since I heard he was going to prance around on stage in the nuddy I started to go off him a little bit.
FredsSweetie14
I would completely NOT want to see Dans wand. Especially if i was Emma or rupert. What if it was like maggie Smith or something. Oh Heavens sakes that would be horrid. Poor Dear. I mean Dan that is I would so be embarrassed I totally get where he is coming from. All tho I am a girl and I dont have to deal with that problem. tehe ~Kaili~
K.Lupin_werewolf
well if i was Emma or Rupert i wouldn't rush to see it anyways. i mean they work with him... they don't need to see him entierly..
but Dan banning them? seriously that is stupid, childish. it's not like he can really stop them. if the wanted to see the play i wouldn't see why they couldn't. dan can't ban them... they have free will! they can see what they like.

A childish thing to ban them? I would definately have to disagree with you on that.
Sure, he can't technically keep them from seeing it. If they really want to then they have every right to! Out of respect for their friendship though, they should honor his wishes if he truly doesn't feel comfortable with them seeing it.
I think it's a normal reaction for Dan to "ban" people he knows from seeing it. I think anyone in his position would have said the same thing. You can't tell me you wouldn't say that same thing to your friends or family wink.gif
Griff_90
I wonder if he banned his parents and grandparents etc. to come and see Equus ? It would be quite weird too, to have your family see you in such a setting.. I know I would not feel very confortable with any people close to me watching me in that performance.. blink.gif
8squishy_fishy8
Hmmm, 'ban' sounds kind of strong-like he was some spoiled brat and commanded that they not go...but I don't think he would do quite that, do you? Well, maybe what I am trying to say is he probably asked them to not see it, and I don't think they would see it if he asked them not to. So I don't agree that he was being childish at all.

Sorry if I was unclear-I was trying to say that I don't think he was bossing them around in a spoiled way.

Jezebel
I think people are taking the term "ban" a little too seriously. Asking friends and family members not to see a play your in, especially one where you're completely nude!, is not a spoiled thing to do at all! What would you do if you were in his place?! You can't honestly tell me is wouldn't bother you to have your closest friends and family seeing anything and everything you've got to offer. It's completely normal for him to tell them that he prefers them not seeing it! He probably used the term "ban" in a lighthearted sense anyways.
gryffindorwitch
I think that he banned his friends and family because he wouldn't feel comfortable with them looking at him nude, because he has to spend most of his time in there presence, so people should be able to understand the word "ban" means that he didn't want them to see it but not in a mean way but in a way of consern for himself and his ffriends & family and obviously he doesn't want his decision to play "nude" in Equus to affect the outcome of there friendship, and expecially w/ people he hangs out with and know how he looks under his clothes mellow.gif
Me_Hermy:1 of the Same
Hahaha Magic Wand laugh.gif Anyway back on topic, I completely understand where Dan is coming from. At school i am doing partner dancing and it gets a bit uncomfortable because we must put our legs up anyway and my friend and I were arguing because i was saying i would rather dance with a complete stranger than with my friend because you have to see them all the time. It would be awkward for Emma and Rupert to see Dan. I think if i was Rupert i would be extremely embarrassed especially since he's such a shy person. If i was Dan i would probably make some highly embarrassing comment to Emma such as unless you want to see it laugh.gif haha i am quite embarrassing!! biggrin.gif
Hermonie4ever
Well, put yourself into Daniel's shoes. Would you want to do anything to mess up your relationship with not only your friends, but your co workers? If you knew anyone in the audience, would you do the play?

Lol, magic wand.
clara morgue
Medea- It isnt really childish behaviour. Hes more of an adult than many people older than him, and it is hard performing in front of people you know, especially those that have expectations and high standards...

And the Victorian-English remark? not all English people are stuck in the victorian ages, and let me assure you that some English people are pretty wild. It astounds me, the perception that most Ameriacns have of English people... Unfortunately, we're not even that polite any more...there's all these 'chavs'...oh dear... never mind

Clara}~
Hilly
I can't completely understand his reasoning for his actions. Performing for strangers might be easier for the simple fact that you don't know them. It's easier to do things in front of people when you have no idea what they think of you and the standards they expect of you.

At the same time, if I were Rubert or Emma, I'd want to see my friend succeed. Just not quite that much. ( laugh.gif ) I'm sure if they really, really want to see it, they'll see it somehow. Also, I'm sure Dan will become more comfortable with it in time and maybe one day they'll all sit down and watch a video of it together. wink.gif

Very funny article! rolleyes.gif
Aethonon
Please, please, please, please, can we stop with the magic wand joke? wacko.gif Sorry, but it's now deceased, dead, it is an ex-joke. IPB Image

Daniel's the man. wub.gif I think the guy rocks. Next thing you know he'll be doing what Christian Bale did--playing a psycho serial killer. Nothing like breaking out of the 'child star' mold in a major way!
Tallie
I'm an actress my self and I would feel awkward seeing my friend in something like that let alone acting with him afterwards. lol tongue.gif

Oh, and Aethonon, my Mum used to teach Christian Bale. Aparently he was a lovely 8 year old, really good, never in trouble. She said she couldn't take him seriously in American Psycho. Lol
Aethonon
Aw, Tallie, that's sweet! I fell in love with him in Empire of the Sun. He was such a brilliant actor, even as a little boy. LOL--I have to admit, I have never seen American Psycho! I'm afraid to--I love him as the good guy! Sad!

I may be that way about Dan, too, but I do think every actor has to stretch his/her limits.

I guess I don't 'get' the unease about the nudity, simply because I was a skinny dipper in my day! All my friends saw me sans clothes, and I them. No big deal. Most of my guy friends were gay anyhow. biggrin.gif
Jezebel
I don't think it's so much the fact that he's nude, it's what he's doing whilst being nude that's the problem. I haven't seen the play, I've only heard about what happens, but that's most likely the biggest reason he doesn't want them to see it. I'm sure he'd be fine with them coming to support him if he were just naked. There's no problem with that especially from an acting perspective.
Anyways. You get what I'm trying to say. Or I hope you do anyways.
