Harry and Luna do seem to understand eachother very much and they seem like a perect couple. They both know how it feels to lose someone, and remember, in the 5th book, Harry is very short tempered and he loses it when he talks to his friends, but when he talks to Luna, it is different. He feels calm. She seems to understand, to sympathise

Exactly cupcake, they
do understand each other that's what makes them such a good pairing!
They are the perfect pairing!
I don't know if this should be in spoilers anymore, it's been like a year so
QUOTE(uzekamanzi)
Luna recognizes Harry on a level that isn't based on superficial looks, as she knows it's Harry even when he's Polyjuiced
Yes! Luna knows harry, and she recognized him even when he didn't look like himself!
I can just imagine it, Luna walking down the Isle in her bright yellow wedding dress...Squeee

Well, it's been a year since the end of the Harry Potter series and although the end pairings are engraved in stone, Harry and Luna is still a ship that I adore. They have a connection unlike any other and I absolutely love how the OotP movie played up on the relationship angle for these two. All the scenes with just Luna and Harry were so perfect. This was the ship that I always liked but sort of knew was never going to happen. Too bad though. It would of been a whole lot more satisfactory then what actually did happen.

Not only are the scenes with just Luna and Harry in the movie, but we get to see Luna and Harry alone interacting in the books. Seeing them actually interact on-page and seeing how they interacted together demonstrates what a good relationship this could have been. I wonder if the HBP movie will play up Harry and Luna's just-as-friends date. Harry asking Luna was such a spontaneous thing that I wondered if Harry really did like Luna, and it was still a subconcious thing. Very similar to when he was talking about nargles and Luna just before he kissed Cho. Harry did enjoy going to the party with Luna, he thought she looked nice, and from how it was written it sounded like he was still holding her hand long after he had dragged her along with him in Slughorn's wake. She made him laugh and snort his mead with the Rotfang Conspiracy talk which he enjoyed. He wasn't embarrasased by her, admitting that she raised his spirits.

Wow, I had to scroll a long way down the ships page to find this thread, but I found it yay!
Harry and Luna is one of my favourite ships. They really understand each other and I think they can make it work much better than Harry and Ginny! They both have at least one dead parent so they know how it is to grow up without having a mother there. They both know how it is to feel lonely at times. Harry, because he feels different from everybody else because he is the chosen one, and Luna because she thinks differently than everybody else and believes in Nargles and all kinds of other creatures that others don't believe in.
In OOTP Luna is actually the first person Harry talks to about Sirius, and he doesn't think that it is weird to talk to her about it. In addition he actually thinks about her when he is about to kiss Cho!!
I think the two of them would be a very cute couple. They understand each others pain and can comfort each other when the times are hard. I think Luna will help Harry relax a little and Harry can help Luna to be a bit more involved in the real wizarding world, instead of drifting into her own world.

As time passes, I've warmed up to this ship in a major way. I think that it's probably because I got what I wanted, Harry and Ginny, I'm perfectly comfortable playing the "what if" game with Luna and Harry. For me R/Hr has always been my OTP for HP, I've always been more comfortable picturing Harry with more than Ginny then I have for either Hermione or Ron. I think JK really could have had something amazing. The weird girl no one gets ending up with the most popular guy in school, because in HBP he was really popular. It would be kinda like what Meyer tried to do with Bella and Edward only neither Harry or Luna are Sues, plus Harry isn't an abusive stalker and Luna isn't an idiot.
But at the end of it all, Luna having ended up with some no-name character we never meet...I almost wish she would have ended up with Harry. Because Luna is to good to have just ended up with a stranger. Most of the time I really wish JK didn't write an epilogue, it would have been better to just let the audience fill in the blank. I think that's also a reason my love for HP has dimmed, there's no more mystery to it. JK has total us all the details. It's almost sad, just like it's almost sad Luna and Harry was never explored.

MOD EDIT: We understand that people have differing views, and obviously JKR wrote the books to end a certain way with certain characters ending up with each other, but we also like to encourage creativity and fun on the VTM forums, and so people here are really allowed to consider an alternate relationship than the one that JKR wrote. We do not allow "ship" bashing, so if you do not agree with a certain ship, please post it in the appropriate thread - not in the pro-ship thread of a couple.
Thank you.

It is not that I have anything against Harry/Ginny, it's just that I have never been able to see them as a couple. It might be the movies fault and it may be the way Rowling describes this realtionship, I don't know but I've never been able to see it.
Harry/Luna is actually the only HP-fanon-ship that I like. Most of the other ships I view as very unlikely. When I read the 5. book for the first time I actually thought Luna and Harry was going to get together, because at the time there really was no one for Harry.. I mean everyone knew that Hermione and Ron was getting together in the end, but there was no one in sight for Harry! But then the 6. book came and sorted it all out for Harry! I was a bit disappointed but, yeah well!

Well, I'm slightly offended. According to that post, you only like cannon ships, so
everything JKR says you believe? I don't mean to say any thing bad about the woman, she's brilliant, but you can't agree with her on every thing. I'm sure that their is one non cannon ship that you like, and you are entitled to your opinion on that matter.
Another thing I would just like to say is that however unlikely some fannon ships are, they can be fun to play around with in fan fics. To bring this back on topic, Harry/Luna is one of the most
likely fannon ships

I agree, I have never been able to see it either. All I see is that she pulled Ginny out of nowhere to be Harry's match. I mean sure she had a crush on him in COS but they've both grown since then and the 'crush' didn't really surface again till HBP
Ever since book five I have loved the ship Harry/Luna I just made sense to me. And I agree with you that when their was really no one else for Harry, Luna was there. JKR made it a point that they understand each other really well in the books.

Harry and Luna together would have been very...interesting. It also would have made a lot of sense, considering how they were so close to each other and how Luna was there for him so much! I don't know, I guess I can see a lot of alternate pairings, but I never did like how Harry ended up with Ginny. She had a crush on him when she was 11, so what? He didn't seem like he liked her, it seemed more like he regarded her in more of a sisterly fashion (since he was so close to the Weasleys, anyway).
Harry and Luna on the other hand...I think they would have balanced each other out in some interesting ways!

That's a bit presumptuous of you, I'm not saying I agree with the other person, but it's possible that person is happy with all the cannon ships.

Gotta say, I agree with you completely there. I think Luna/Harry actually might be the most likely one, that and Neville/Ginny. Most of the other fannon ships either just give me a headache because of the shippers or make me roll my eyes and think "yeah right, maybe in bizarror world." For some reason, I'm really comfortable with Luna and Harry, even though I consider myself a Harry/Ginny shipper.

It's a sweet thought. Luna is clever and funny if a little weird. Harry saw her as a very close friend after the whole business at the Ministry and with the D.A. I don't think it could have worked though because I can't see Harry putting up with Luna's dirigible plumb earrings.

Ha, I think the earring might annoy Harry too. I think that a Neville/Ginny ship would of work out because after GoF during the Yule Ball, that got me thinking. I think it might of worked out between them, but I think him and Luna are definitely a better match.

I was never much of a shipper of any relationship or pairing until after the 6th book, but while reading the 5th book, I just couldn't ignore the beauty of Harry and Luna. Luna was a very well developed character. For someone who came late in the series, she was someone who I immediately fell in love with. She was so different from Harry and yet they shared many things in common, things that mattered. They didn't have the same temperament or maybe even the same personality, and for all I know, they didn't share the same favorite color. But they both undrestood what it meant to lose a parent, and with something that big, it was inevitable that they would form a connection with one another. A lot of times people think that because someone grew up an only child that they strive and search for a partner with a large family so that they can marry into that. But sometimes, we see two only childs come together to create a large family of their own. All I'm saying is that Harry and Ginny isn't the only ship that could have happened or should have happened, contrary to what many people believe. Harry and Luna would have been something amazing.

Well this has to be one of my favorite couples ever, this or Neville/Luna but I am a more Harry/Luna person. Anywho, I was depressed when I read that darn epilogue. There were so many hints at Harry/Luna and J.K. suddenly is like oh there is this Naturalist named Rolf who Luna meets on her travels and they get married, random much. Harry and Luna are just so compatible with each other, it was obvious after third book that there was Ron/Hermionie, but with Luna and Harry it came out of no where and was just so perfect. She came into the series at the most troubling time for Harry and she truly understood Harry and she was someone who he could open up to. At the end she was one of the only people she could talk to about Sirius this just showed how emotionally close the two were. They both felt hardships, loss of parents, and lonliness, they also both felt ridicule which they helped each other through. But of course Miss. Weasley comes out and likes Harry because he is famous, she doesn't see the real Harry and what he is truly like, she just sees his fame. I don't know what J.K. was playing at putting those two together it was just so random. Harry suddenly starts to have feelings for Ginny in his 6th year, and they eventually get married. I just wished that Harry and Luna got together at the end they are just the most compatible and most realistic couple of the whole series, I mean Ron/Hermionie I really can't see that working out I would think that Ron would drive Hermionie insane I know he would if I was in her position. But Luna and Harry complement each other they are just so perfect together, Luna is always Harry's biggest fan during Quittich matches and Harry helps out the Quibbler with his interview and made it into something that everyone doesn't make fun of. I would have just been so happy to see this and it just broke my heart to see Luna end up with Rolf and Harry with Ginny.

Harry and Luna is my second favorite ship that involves Harry. They both understand the pain of losing a parent. They both have been outsiders and bullied. They have a deep understanding of each other. Harry felt comfortable enough with her to discuss Sirius, albeit briefly because he knew she would understand. Harry isn't embarrassed to be in her presence even though almost everyone else is. You could see it in the books and there mutual understanding and friendship was portrayed beautifully by Dan and Evanna in the movies.

This is one of my favorite HP ships, other than Draco/Ginny and Sirius/Lily. That and Hermione/Viktor. Harry and Luna can truly understand each other and treat each other as equals. They can talk on an emotional level and not be distracted by superficial things like looks or money. *Squee!* Sorry, can't help myself with the squeeing. But I've decided to ask a few questions to the loyal H/L shippers on this site.
When did you first start shipping Harry/Luna?
Which book had the most Harry/Luna?
What's your favorite Harry/Luna moment?
What would their wedding be like?
EDIT: If anybody's interested, I ship Harry/Luna, Ron/Cho, Sirius/Lily, Draco/Ginny, Lucius/Bellatrix, and Viktor/Hermione.

When did you first start shipping Harry/Luna?I never really shipped until the sixth book and the horrendous Harry and Ginny relationship happened. It was then that JKR made it clear that she wanted to pair Harry off with a character in the series, and throughout the books I have always taken notice of some moments between Harry and Hermione or Harry and Luna, so the end of the six book I suppose is when I decided to officially ship Harry and Luna. Of course, going through the fifth book, the thought of those two together always interested me and I liked it.
Which book had the most Harry/Luna? The Fifth book of course had several Harry and Luna moments for me. There were some in the sixth but of course they were overshadowed by Harry's roaring chest monster that fancied Ginny.
What's your favorite Harry/Luna moment? My favorite Harry and Luna moment in the book is when Harry talks to Luna about Sirius' death. She was the only one that he could talk to about it so that to me was very significant. I also really loved how they portrayed it in the movie. But in the movie, my favorite Harry and Luna moment is when they are in the forest and Luna is feeding the thestrals. That moment was so beautifully played out by Evanna and Dan. Luna is just very re-assuring to Harry in this scene and that is something I see a girl doing for her guy.
What would their wedding be like?Their wedding would be magical!

I'm not sure how to explain it but it would definately be a beautiful and unique wedding. Nothing too traditional, but I don't think most wizard weddings are.

When did you first start shipping Harry/Luna?Actually, I ship H/Hr, but H/L is a
very close second.
Which book had the most Harry/Luna?Order of the Phoenix.
What's your favorite Harry/Luna moment?I agree with
Unknownlocket in that in the movie, the scene where Harry and Luna are with the thestrals was beautifully filmed. It showed us that Luna is a sincere and sweet person. Despite her eccentricity, she's the type of person who would be a loyal and trusting friend.
What would their wedding be like?I picture a simple wedding for Harry and Luna. Only close friends and family would be invited. Invitations would be sent out by owls. The reception would be at Hogwarts in the dining room. I can see Harry and Luna's wedding cake as looking like this:
http://www.boreme.com/boreme/funny-2008/st...g-cakes-p25.phpInstead of a dragon, it can be an image of Buckbeak; and the castle can resemble Hogwarts.
I don't care much for the strapless bridal dress styles worn today - they remind me of a bed sheet hastily wrapped around the bosom.
I would love to see Luna in a vintage dress like this one:
http://www.vintagestyleclothing.com/angelinapage.htmlI can see Luna wearing these boots, but, NOT the pearls necklace ... I don't see her as being into pearls.
This is the dress (in the pink) that I picture the bridesmaids, Ginny and Hermione as wearing:

I was surfing on YouTube and came across this beautiful Harry/Luna video. I thought I would share it with you all. Here's the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7nhF111bhs...feature=relatedIt opens with the scene where Harry and Luna are in the woods with the thestrals and ends with the scene in a hallway at Hogwarts where Luna is posting notes about her missing items. In between it's filled with scenes from both Harry's and Luna's flashbacks about their mothers and scenes from OotP. Kudos to the author of this video who did a wonderful job.
enjoy!
