i stumbled across this idea when i was watching power rangers(my brother was but you no what i mean)and they had to say a spell backwards to reverse it,so maybe if harry said avada kadavra backwards that could be the counter curse

avarda kadavra-------------arvadak adava

I HIHGLY doubt that that is possible. Every witch and wizard says that their is no spell to bring someone back from the dead.I think that they would definitely know if it were as simple as sayin the AK backwards. But maybe its a possibilty as long as JK caught the last Power rangers episode.

I dunno.....this curse is named for a long tradition of the phrases that generated "Abra Cadabra" in popular magical cultural usage. The idea that there is a linguistic reversal of it that would work against it seems unlikely. Moody does say there are no counter curses for the Unforgiveables, but then again that was FakeMoody, so maybe there are.

time turner
I don't think so, that would be to easy. Everyone says that there is no way to block this curse. I think that there is a way to block the curse, but hasn't been found yet, and I don't think that it will be that easy to block it.

what a bunch of bogus! there is no way! there is no way to stop the killing curse with a counter curse. the only was to stop it would be the exception with LV,LP, and HP. thats it no saying it backwards
AFP
I don't think so somehow... Moody (well the fake Moody0 says in GOF that there is no counter spell for Avada Kadavra, or any way of blocking it apart from a wizard's own agility.. He also says there is only one person who has ever survived it, and that is Harry, and no one knows how he managed it...
Lil Cougar
There is no counter curse for Avada Kedavra...
And none of the other counter curses are the spell they counter backwards so I doubt that is right...
I think when you create a spell the counter has to be created at the same time...

Right, we all know that there is no way to stop the killing curse. I think that is what was taking advantage of with Lily and James Potter. They already knew that there was no stopping it or Voldemort, so they just let him come (I'm assuming here). Just like you let somebody's strength become their weakness in a fight. Since there is no stopping it or blocking it, you let it come and take it. I suppose this would really only work magically...I can't imagine it working physically. Lily formed the bond and the rest is history and up for debate until we know what actually happened.

I don't think the counter curse to the killing curse is saying it backwards. If thats the case then one can reverse anything saying whatever curse or spell that was cast backwards. There may be a counter curse to block it or deflect it at some point, but none to reverse it affects.

No offense or anything but that made me laugh. Even Dumbledore himself said there was no counter curse. The only person who has survived it is harry. He only lived because of his mothers love.

There is absolutely no counter to the killing curse. Moody (Barty Crouch Jr.) and Dumbledore say so. (Dumbledore is always right). But it is curious thatAvada Kedavra spelled backwards is close to a palindrome. Maybe it is a curse that has something to do with killing...

I've been on this site for ages, but I was too busy to sign up. However, I took the plunge today just so I could reply to this smile.gif
Alright, I think it's highly safe to say that it's very unlikely that simply saying the AK curse backward is the counter. I mean, compare: TMNT to Harry Potter. Which do you think is better written? It's become extremely obvious that JKR is very clever and original, so I doubt something as easy as saying the curse backward would counter it, especially being it's basically the worst curse imaginable. TMNT is written for younger audiences, and it's simply meant to entertain, not to impress.
That being said, I think it's very clever of you to have drawn ideas from other forms of entertainment, such as TMNT. Unfortunately, I doubt this observation will be proven true. But keep looking!
Now that we basically all agree, how about we stop stating and restating the obvious and the previously mentioned. Scanning these posts, they all say the same thing - no, there's no countercurse...Moody said so...there may be something to block it or deflect it, but not reverse its affects...blah blah blah. Yes, we all read the books, and we all know this is what was said. However, has JKR ever fooled us before? Yes, she has...many times. She says something, gets us to believe it, and then worms her way around it, surprising us. It's part of what makes her books so enjoyable...the fact that it's so unpredictable.
But there's no need to repeat all of this. We get it. So rather than state the obvious, how about you state your opinion on the matter (idea of saying the curse backwards) and then tell us what YOU think the counter curse could be...or whatever it is that stops it. Or, if you don't believe there is any way of stopping it, tell us why.
That way we're not wasting space with the same old, same old, but rather with everyone else's ideas.

hey im not bothered what you say i find it just as funny dont worry it is a bunch of rubbish no doubt

What I love about the Harry Potter books is that you never know what's going to happen. JKR's so brilliant. The books could go in any direction.

By that I mean that we'll just have to wait and see. Until then, we're left to haunt forums for spoilers, discussions, theories...etc.

All part of the fun and excitement smile.gif

I know, but this gives me a awesome idea. What if the counter curse was made too because they knew it would be too powerful ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif

But the question is...who knows it??

Possibly someone who sacrificed themself for Harry (or something of the like), knowing how to reverse it. They could have told someone else what it was.

Very interesting. Now I have something else to ponder...joyful smile.gif
