A lot of people have been jumping on the hate bandwagon for this new OS but I upgraded to it a couple weeks ago and so far I've been very pleased. Just wondering what anyone else who may have gotten it already thinks.

Please don't start arguing whether Mac or PC is better because that's not what this thread is for. wink.gif

Jordan,I got it 3 weeks ago and I love it.I have parental controls, but I can still do a lot on here.I have to admit, now that whats-his-name has kids the parental control is more strict.

We installed Vista as soon as my Mum got her hands on it (and working for the government means she gets everything as soon as it's released) and I'm very happy with it. I especially love the new games like Mahjong and InkBall. They keep me entertained for hours. (Which is extremely hard to do) So yeah, I'd have to say it's the best OS we've had, and we've had them all. *shudders at the thought of some of them*

I cannot get Vista. Absolutely, cannot and will not get it (for a while anyhow). Let me explain.

I am a math major (graduating in 10 days!). I need certain software in order to do my statistics. They do not make it for Vista. So, my $1400 software trumps the use of Vista. I will stay with Windows XP until they make upgrades to the software.

Gosh, I told my ex-husband (computer freak!) that I was considering Vista and he almost had a cow! He said no, no, no, I should not get it, because everytime you want to do something, it asks you "are you sure you want to----" and then you have to click yes. So...that's not true?

I do believe that Vista does waste a lot of your time asking that question. I have not seen it but I have listened to several shows on Vista and that issue came up when discussing the security in Vista. The PC/Mac commercial with the Secret Service guy poked fun at it but there appears to be some degree of truth to it. I just got a new computer in December with XP and it works great. I see no reason to upgrade anytime soon.

It's not a continual thing. Like for Hotmail if I want to refresh the page it asks if I'm sure I want for for Postdata or something? I dunno. I never happened before when I was using XP. I don't have anything else saying 'Do you wish to proceed' or something. Unless it's the settings you have, like restricting what sites you can access or something. But other then the Hotmail one I've never been asked to say yes or no to an action.

Microsoft decided to integrate a security system in Vista which would ask the user every time any modifications are done which would ultimately expose your PC to security risks. I don't have much of a problem with it because it doesn't really prevent you from doing anything.

For example if I try to run a program that Windows did not recognize I get a security pop up which looks like this asking me whether I should allow the program to continue or not.

I think that there is a way to disable the popups but I'm not entirely sure - though there would be no point in doing so.

Ok so i bought a new laptop (yeah! biggrin.gif ) and it had Windows Vista installed.
I don't like them that much. It is really hard getting used to this new way of arranging icons etc. Plus, windows vista are new and thus, vulnerable to viruses, so i don't want to log in using them as it would be really risky. People also say they have many mistakes...I am going to uninstall them, i am way too old to learn new things! laugh.gif

I got a new laptop for my 15th birthday that came with vista and basically I hate it. It takes up a lot of my computers memory so I added a gig of memory and it is still really slow.

If you game as much as I do, you'll probably agree that XP is the better choice. Vista uses near 1GB of RAM idle and has poor support and alot of driver problems when it comes to games, old and new.

I'm sure it's fine for normal usage, ms word and photoshop maybe, but I've heard too many people say it's unreliable for gaming, so I'm going to avoid it for now.

Anyway, my computer has been out of action for 2 weeks so Vista on this laptop would probably kill it tongue.gif

At my school we have a laptop program that requires us to use laptops everyday for our work. Last September they told us that Windows Vista was the way to go. Fortunately for me, the guy I bought my computer from told me that Vista is impossible to use and basically put XP on it without me knowing. I'm quite glad that he did.

We have to install many programs on the computers and for some reason Vista wouldn't allow it and would constantly block the attempts or it would install but for some reason it wouldn't work. For school email and the wireless connection, people with Vista had to wait for about 4 months before they could get it hooked up and running. The IT people always had kids in their offices and they still haven't got everything working for Vista, but they're working on it. So for me, XP was the right choice.

I don't know when but I think I am going to have my laptop "downgraded" to XP soon. My mom works with computers and she is getting really frustrated with my laptop.

I am so jealous that you guys have a laptop program. I got a scholarship to another school that I really wanted to go to and they had a laptop program but I didn't get to there because even with the scholarship it was way more expensive. sad.gif

Jingle Bells
Vista smells
Microsoft have failed
Vista needs a lot of work
And Microsoft have bailed.

I think it's clear to see my views on this.

I got vista back when it first came out and it has been nothing but trouble. I have it on a pc and laptop. I have had to send the pc for repairs 9 times since I've had it. I have to reinstall the laptop from the OS every three months minimum without having the chance to save my files because of a system error which prevents the system from starting up.

Thanks a lot Microsoft.

Oh here is an accurate assessment of operating systems:

What, is Vista worse than XP? unsure.gif I've got XP in my computer and Vista in the laptop we just got, but we haven't used it very much yet (you can imagine why.... it still hasn't got internet laugh.gif).
I'm comfortable using XP; Vista didn't give us games, except a silly one about... cakes and 'cutie' stuff, but I love the new Solitarie! It's lovely.
And the gadgets thing, or I don't remember the name, of the clock in the desktop and stuff, it's good too.
But it's a bit messy, or it's because I get used to something and then I can't change tongue.gif
Does Vista bring problems to the computer? I hope not...

I have Vista in my laptop and I love it.. True, it asks lot of questions but I am now used to it. Everyone around me hates it.. And ya, it is mre vulnerable to viruses but I havent faced much problem there. Yes, it does not support older versions of some softwares and I am getting problem in installing the newer versions and getting used to it. For ex: Right now I am studying oracle in college and in college we use the 3.3 version but Vista supports the 10G version only. Everone around me switched to XP but I installed the 10G version instead and I still havent been able to run it smoothly, but I still love Vista. I love the way it looks and I love the way it works... And I am always satisfied with other softwares that I run on ma laptop, only Oracle came as a problem to me, else I have faced no serious problem...

So today I start my laptop and I get blackscreen which tells me I need to do a checkdisc. It takes the usual hour and then the laptop won't start up. To those of you who like Vista, what exactly do you like about it? Or are you just the lucky ones that the problems decided to leave alone biggrin.gif But seriously, the only thing I like about having vista is being able to use up to date software - might I mention anything older than 2007 doesn't work on here - and I also like windows vista aero outlay which comes with home premium. that's it.
